The first problem we encountered was where to park. The car park was full but we ended up parking on a small grass patch at the end of the car park (after speaking with reception). ||Our room was very basic and dated but with a very nice view of the fjord. There was no in-room safe, no coffee or tea facilities, no USB ports, etc. Additionally, the Wi-Fi reception was pretty poor and the small TV only had three working channels. ||On-site amenities were better. There was a heated pool which was open until 9pm and quite pleasant. And you could hire bicycles and rowing boats from the hotel too. There was also a nice promenade along the fjord at the back of the hotel which went into town. ||Breakfast provided nice views of the fjord but was very basic...the only cooked items were eggs and bacon. Also, there was no smoked salmon which was a first across all the hotels we stayed at in Norway. On the plus side, they did have a waffle maker which turned out to be a small highlight. ||This could be quite an amazing place if it was fully refurbished and modernised.

We really liked this place. We had a family room - huge terrace overlooking the fjord. Characterful old style decor (just don’t expect a lift). Nice facilities : swimming dock (fjord 14C in August) and swimming pool (24C, small but just enough to actually swim), lovely lawn with whicker chairs, free row boats, etc. Breakfast with a beautiful view was very decent: make your own waffles went down well, though coffee was only Norwegian basic. Only trouble was with the electric car charger: not really the hotel’s problem - partly me and partly the independent companies very poor interface - but hotel were very helpful sorting it out. Sogndal not the quaintest town but very pleasant walkway along the shoreline to the nearby centre (such as it is)

Very nice hotel and friendly service. The hotel is located by the fjord in Sogndal. A nice walk by the sea to Sogndal where you might find a cafe or just go for a walk. The location is beautiful and it a pool in the garden if you don’t want to try the fjord. The hotel is old, however everything is nice, including the rooms. It’s a beautiful garden at the seaside with plenty of room. The breakfast was very good. Sogndal is a good place to stay when traveling in the area.

Smallish room but perfectly comfortable. Weird shower that soaks the whole bathroom and you need to squeegee the floor but it works. Kind of like a camper shower. Nice balcony with view from the end once you walk out. Looked like there are rooms with direct views as well. Beautiful grounds with an easy walk along the fjord and into town. Good breakfast. There are a couple of car charging spaces which is nice but once you move out of that there isn’t much parking. We were there before the high season and were lucky to get a space.

Our historic room with balcony is quite nice and well renovated. The view is outstanding. The bar, restaurant, breakfast and common indoor spaces could stand a lot of sprucing up, they are tired and pretty worn out. The breakfast was not up to the standard we have had at our other 3 hotels in Norway on this trip, limited offering and not good quality. The hotel location directly on the fjord, the view, the dock with boats, the swimming pool, garden and outdoor seating are very nice, beautiful, peaceful and fun. The town of Sogndal is very limited in restaurants, there are very few and they are not very good with one exception the Dampskipskaien, which is very good with nice atmosphere.

Beautifully presented traditional and historical hotel. The garden is gorgeous and what it lacks in modernity is more than made up for with its provenance, charm and warm welcome. The outdoor pool was warm and they have free rowing boats for guests to go onto the fjord. Utterly charming, highly recommend of you want to experience somewhere with character.

Slightly odd experience overall. The room had a musty smell and although there was an internal corridor, we were told to access our room via the back garden (which was beautiful), which seemed rather odd (and inconvenient in the rain!). The room had been refurbished but the shower flooded the bathroom, the mattress was unusually soft compared to many other hotels, and the room lacked basic facilities (kettle etc) - hence it was all a rather odd experience, and not entirely as expected for the price of the room.

Positives - Two staff were fantastic; Oorte and Vegard. We did not like our first room so Vergard was able to get us a better room, and it was a lovely layout. Hotel well positioned. Our room had a water view.|Negatives - Although room nice, there was no tea & coffee making facilities nor fridge, (the only hotel that did not have these on our 2 week trip). Breakfast was okay but when I asked if there was oat or almond milk the woman at breakfast said no. When I asked could they get some as we were staying 4 nights she said no! Not many choices for a vegan-ish diet and no ambience in the room .. jeez some background music? Only breakfast served in the hotel.|Carparking was difficult as you had to get back early to get one, and difficult to manoeuvre at the back spaces
