The De Hoge Veluwe National Park is situated in Arnheim, in the Netherlands. There are several entrances to the park, which is very large - some 55,000 hectares in size. The main entrance leads the way to Marchentheim, the visitor's centre. Along the way, and scattered in several spots throughout the park there are thousands of white bicycles in racks, which are free for visitors to use. This seems a great idea, as the park is so vast, it means that visitors can explore parts of it on bicycle, and parts on foot.
Also near the visitor's centre is a museum, aimed at children, which is mainly underground and shows some examples of the flora and fauna to be seen in the park.
Further into the park, across some sand dunes, is the St. Hubertus hunting lodge, a purpose-built building for watching the deer in the field behind. There's a collection of antlers, which are surprisingly heavy, and information posters on the walls.
Also for children is an orienteering tour, where children follow a colourful trail in order to spot various examples of the wildlife.
