The Best eSIM for Traveling Europe (Updated 2025)

"When I travel to Europe I use Holafly eSIMs because they provide international eSIMs for travelers, covering over 170 countries worldwide and specifically offering service in 32 countries across Europe; their plans run from 5–90 days (priced around 19–99 EUR, with plans sometimes listed starting at $19 USD) and all European plans include unlimited data, which I consider the biggest highlight. I buy via their website or app, follow emailed setup instructions to install via QR code or manually (there's also one-tap automatic installation on iOS 17.4), and rely on their 24/7 support if anything goes wrong. Holafly lets me keep my physical SIM to receive calls, retain my WhatsApp number, top up online, and avoid the hassle and cost of roaming or buying multiple physical SIMs when visiting multiple countries, though their Europe plans do not allow data sharing/hotspotting." - Matthew Kepnes

The Best eSIMs for Travelers

"I prefer Holafly for heavy data use since they offer many plans (5–90 days) including unlimited data options connected to reliable networks across 160 destinations; they have an easy installation process, 24/7 customer support, and allow up to 1 GB per day of data sharing (hotspotting)." - Matthew Kepnes

My experience was not good. I couldn’t get the SIM to work with my unlocked phone. I traveled to Switzerland and Italy so I made two separate purchases for each country. HolaFly refunded the $8 purchase but so conveniently disregard the $20 purchase. I followed up and the said they would take care of it but that wasn’t the case. Personally, I wouldn’t use this service again. I would recommend buying one day and testing it. If you’re out like $5 who cares. If it works, boom cheap and easy. I wish that was the case for me.

For my trip to France, I purchased a Holafly eSIM in addition to my regular Swiss mobile plan (20 GB at full speed, then throttled to 1 Mbit/s). I was hoping for more flexibility and especially faster speeds while traveling – unfortunately, I was disappointed 📶🛑. Although Holafly advertises unlimited data, the connection was extremely slow right from the start – noticeably slower than my Swiss plan even after it had been throttled 🐌. Even basic apps like WhatsApp or Google Maps only worked with a lot of patience. Streaming or normal web browsing was barely possible. One important note: I had a strong signal with consistent 5G, so the poor performance wasn’t due to network coverage 📡. Also, the setup of the eSIM was very smooth – I was connected within a minute. Still, the overall performance was unusable in everyday situations. Unlimited data doesn’t help much if the speed is this restricted – unless you also have unlimited time 🇫🇷.

Holafly eSIM Review✨ since 2024 From the bustling streets of London to the magical vibes of Ireland, the highlands of Scotland, the waffles in Brussels, the fiestas in Madrid, and even the glitzy skylines of Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, and Abu Dhabi… and let’s not forget that *private island* Sir Bani YAS in the UAE – this eSIM has been my ride-or-die. 🌴📶 (Just finish a 10 days trip in UAE & areas) **What I like:** ✅ **Signal? PERFECT.** Like, 5G most of the time. Smooth Data and No more “Can you hear me now?” moments. Yes, I can make whatsapp call too. I even did a FB live when our car broke down in the middle of the Dubai desert. ✅ **Unlimited data? YES.** I’m out here streaming, scrolling, and sharing like there’s no tomorrow. ✅ **Hotspot? ABSOLUTELY.** Sharing is caring, and I’ve been hot-spotting with my ipad, my laptop and my bf's cell phone ✅ **Easy to use? YEH.** Set it up in seconds, and you’re good to go. ✅ **Support team? LEGENDS.** They’re quick, friendly, and answer all my random questions (even the dumb ones). One thing I wish they can offer as an option: A more affordable plan with a less of price & a fixed amount of data. You know, not everyone will need unlimited data on every trip (My reviews are based on the above listed cities only).

Total scam. Bought a regional esim just to test for 1 day. Even that one didn't work as I was trying to connect it in the airport. I am a programmer and can connect something that works pretty quickly and this one doesn't work at all. At the end, I just bought a local esim quickly. Asked to refund and all they are saying is someone will contact me shortly but nothing yet.

My experience with Holafly was a bit of a mixed bag. I bought an esim for Asia to cover me for a trip to Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. It worked fine for Cambodia and Thailand but not for Laos. Customer support was quick to respond but ultimately unsuccessful in responding to my difficulties. It was clear to me that the issue was with the SIM and not with my phone. This was unfortunate due to family issue that came up while I was away and I needed to be contactable. Holafly did not offer any refund or other gesture to compensate in any way. Ultimately the service was convenient and useful but it was not as good as promised by reviews or the website. When it works, it works well but when it doesn't, tough luck! Update I provided Holafly with the correspondence I had with their customer support at the time I had issues. They have notified that they will provide a full refund. This is more than I expected as the service worked well at times. I appreciate their follow up and commitment to customer satisfaction. I have updated the review to 5 stars as I believe this is as much as they could do and more than I expected.

Last year we used Holafly in the Netherlands and it worked like a charm. This year in Sweden our eSim was considerably less reliable. It often dropped at just the wrong time, like when I was using Apple Pay or finding directions around Stockholm. Overall we are quite happy still.

DON’T USE HOLAFLY!!! Unfortunately you need to click a star, because it’s not even worth one. Bought a 20 day E-sim for Indonesia. Was unable to use it since there was no connection. Customer service is an autobot and it takes at least half an hour to speak to a real person. All during your precious holiday that you saved up for and not intended to spend talking to customer service because they can’t deliver. Long story short, it took me hours of my time and THREE months to get a refund. They are only refunding half of my purchase amount because there was “data usage” during 11 days. Probably apps running in the background, because I was never able to use the internet, WhatsApp, Google or whatever I needed. What if there was an emergency? Well, Holafly doesn’t care. It’s like buying a coffee machine that runs but doesn’t pass water so no coffee comes out and then getting half your money back. Ridiculous.

At first, I had problems, the eSIM didn’t work on the first day and I had no internet. I kept going in circles with AI support and got nowhere. Eventually, the chatbot said I’d be connected to someone soon, but nothing happened even after 30 minutes. The next day, I received a new eSIM by email, and once I activated that one, it worked fine. In the end it was okay, but the initial experience was frustrating.
