Holden Manz Wine Estate, Near Franschhoek, Western Cape, South Africa - Explore & Book

"Set beneath dramatic elephant-shaped mountains and cradled by the Franschhoek and Stoney Brook rivers, few locations in the Cape Winelands match the beauty of the Holden Manz Wine Estate. This collection of whitewashed Cape Dutch buildings may only have 5 suites, but inside there's acres of space. This is more a stylish homestead than a hotel. As owners Migo and Gerard live on site, their influence and attention to detail is found throughout. Migo owns a gallery in town so contemporary sculptures and paintings are aplenty. Outside there's a picturesque lake, a sweep of neat lawn, and an orchard where fruits from pomegranates to peaches grow. Inside, an inner courtyard with neat beds of white pebbles and the sound of murmuring water induces a Zen-like mood of calm and wellbeing. Feng shui determined the positioning of the buildings to gain the best flow of chi, so you get the feeling nothing here is left to chance.Beyond the vineyard lies the Franschhoek Kitchen. Many come just to enjoy the wine tastings, but it's now considered one of the region's best restaurants. They say a stay at Holden Manz is about leaving the mundane behind, relaxing into a world of cossetted comfort and recharging your inner batteries. We agree. Highs The 5 guestrooms (all suites) couldn't be more comfortable, with big beds, oversized baths and power showersA setting of rare beauty at the foot of the Franschhoek mountain range, which makes a good base for sorties out into the winelandsAn utterly peaceful corner of the valley, with lovely walks through vineyards and along river banks, yet close to the town of Franschhoek - South Africa's culinary capitalKicking back with your books and music by the pool, then indulging in a massage in the small spaA top restaurant which can also prepare wonderful picnics for you by the river Lows The suites come with a relatively high price tag but this does include breakfast and afternoon tea as well as beers and soft drinksThe owners' dogs can occasionally get lively, but they're generally out of sight and kennelledThe restaurant's halfway across the vineyard, though this makes a pleasant short walk or an even quicker drive" - Aidan Forestier-Walker

Our wine tasting in Franschhoek was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality that set the tone for a truly memorable experience. The vineyard itself is stunning — surrounded by sweeping mountain views, elegant gardens, and a tranquil atmosphere that captures the essence of the valley. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly our sommelier, Gershwan. His knowledge and passion for wine were remarkable. He guided us through each tasting with incredible depth and enthusiasm, sharing insights about the terroir, winemaking techniques, and unique characteristics of every varietal. What stood out most was his ability to make the experience both educational and deeply personal — it felt like a conversation with someone who truly lives and breathes wine. The service throughout was flawless — attentive, professional, and perfectly paced. Each glass was presented beautifully, and the entire experience felt thoughtfully curated from start to finish. It’s rare to find a place where exceptional wine, breathtaking scenery, and genuine expertise come together so seamlessly. This was one of those rare moments. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Franschhoek — and if you can, ask for Gershwan. He’ll make your tasting truly unforgettable.

Mrs. Simmie made a great job: She presented charming and with great knowledge the wines. The Holden Manz winery area is nicely surrounded by the mountens, it is such a silent, relaxing atmosphere here. We enjoyed the harvest platter meal and high quality wines. OK, it is our first winery in Franshok, but not our last. Thanks!

Can’t comment on rooms as we were taking a wine tour. But the experience we did have was fantastic and would highly recommend. Our host David was wonderful. Not only knowledgeable about the wines but engaging about the area. Wonderful experience. Thank you. Oh and did I mention the food. Brilliant and thank you.

Beautiful vineyard in the heart of Franschhoek. We stopped here on our wine tram tour and were served by Vuna, a very knowledgeable and friendly sommelier. The wines were rich and delicious, varied in character. Would highly recommend! The rose was a standout.

Dylan was an asset to Holden Manz- informative and in no rush to impart his knowledge. Another member of staff - young lady Simmie - was great in mentioning the wildlife in the area - baboons and zebra. The welcome we received on the wine tour was far better than some of the other locations. Perfect!

Could be more gluten free options for food but the staff were accomodating and made me a burger without bread buns (I was very thankful for that). Wine tasting was amazing and our wine tasting guide Vuna was full of knowledge, easy to understand and super friendly/accommodating.

We had a lovely stay at this beautiful estate. From booking online to arrival, all was great including the security staff member at the gate being informed about us arriving and being so friendly and welcoming. Next we received a welcome drink and a beautiful breakfast the following morning (perfectly poached eggs) AND a wine tasting at the winery which was all perfect and complimentary. We actually arrived late (apologies) and were still accommodated by Dylan who was our host at the tasting. He was extremely pleasant and professional. Their wines are excellent. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone as it was such an all-round lovely experience. The room was also very clean (including a daily clean) and it housed a fireplace (with wood and blitz provided) AND a bottle of red wine. I honestly don't think there is room for improvement as they have already reached such an exceptional standard of excellence. Charlene was also lovely as was Mr Frank and of course the owners. Thank you for a memorable stay.
