Our stay at Holden Manz Wine Estate was genuinely one of the most special travel experiences we’ve ever had, and the perfect introduction to Franschhoek, Cape Town, and South Africa as a whole.
We stayed for a couple of nights at the manor house at the very start of our holiday, and from the moment we arrived, everything felt exceptional. Being welcomed with a glass of their own rosé while sitting out overlooking the vineyards and dramatic mountain backdrop was unforgettable — it felt surreal.
On our first day, we walked up from the manor house to the wine estate for an eight-wine tasting, which was outstanding. The gentleman who hosted us was absolutely brilliant — incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and engaging — and made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal. The wines were fantastic, the food was delicious, and the views were honestly the best I have ever seen in my life. Sitting there among the vines with the mountains towering behind you is something photos don’t quite do justice to.
The manor house itself is beautiful — classic, elegant, and immaculately kept — but what really makes it special is how peaceful and intimate it feels. It’s small and exclusive, which makes the whole stay feel very personal rather than like a typical hotel. Breakfast each morning was excellent, enjoyed looking out over the gardens and vineyards, and Frank, who looks after the house, was absolutely lovely — so welcoming, attentive, and kind.
Although dinner isn’t served at the manor house, this only added to the charm and tranquillity of the stay and never felt like a downside.
Everything about Holden Manz felt thoughtful, calm, and effortlessly luxurious. We genuinely couldn’t stop saying “wow” the entire time we were there. It’s a place that stays with you long after you leave, and we would return in a heartbeat. I couldn’t recommend it more highly
