Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kailua-Kona, an IHG Hotel

I am a IHG Member and try staying at the associated hotels when I can. We stayed in Kona for 3 days. The hotel is in the perfect location ... 5 minute walk to downtown, 8 minutes to a beach, and minutes away from many really nice restaurants and ice cream shops. Several nice art galleries as well. The hotel has an outdoor pool. We didn't spend much time in it because there were plenty of others enjoying the pool. It's not a very large pool, but adequate should you want a quick dip. There's a hot tub as well. The breakfast bar was nice if you want to save some money on breakfast meals or just want something small to go. Most of the staff were super friendly and nice. One particular person gave me a difficult time about some of the prices, but the manager worked everything out with me directly so that was pretty amazing. Make sure you have everything in writing or emails. I definitely recommend the hotel.

Upon arrival the staff were extremely friendly and very welcoming! Our stay was pretty good, mind you we were there only for one night. The room was clean and big, we were able to get a good nights sleep! For how busy it was it was very quiet. There were a couple of concerns though with the continental breakfast, the toaster did not work whatsoever and they ran out of coffee very early on in the morning. It took a long time for the next pot to be made. In general, the hotel does need some upgrading as it is a bit dated, in particular the pool area. Overall we were satisfied with our stay.

I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn Express. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious. The hotel is close to restaurants, shopping, and bars. We walked most days and nights to restaurants and to do some shopping. I definitely recommend this hotel if you are planning a trip to Kona. Although you don't have the amenities a resort might have such as a restaurant, bar, or a big swimming pool, they do have a good size pool and offer complimentary breakfast. I would book this hotel again if I returned to Kona.

Stayed from 12/24/2024 thru 12/29/2024 Breakfast service is dependent on the staff. The staff on Christmas day did an outstanding job with breakfast spread and refilling the items. The remaining 4 days, the menu was not great either and the staff was not on top of it. The excuse given by front desk was "out of inventory" which to me was not acceptable. I suggest, stick to a rotation of a few standard breakfast options and do it well. Housekeeping would stop before 930/10am and if asked to come a little later didn't remember to tidy up the room later, happened to us 3 out of 4 days. Hotel is in a great location with access to all the great restaurant options in area. People on staff were courteous and nice, a rarity on the mainland US these days.

Fantastic location. Steps to the waterfront and wonderful restaurants. Housekeeping staff do an outstanding job. ALL staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really good, especially the bananas. Didn’t use the pool but it looked inviting. I would 100% stay here again :)

Located in the busiest area of the town. Walkable to shopping and activities. Roomy and clean rooms. All entrances are accessible with key cards only, which is safe for a busy downtown area. This is a standard Holiday Inn Express, not for those who want to relax by the ocean. There is no beach-front view, balcony, or lounge. If you are here for shopping and activities, this is a good choice. You basically pay a premium rate and the $15+tax parking per day for the access to the shopping and activities because free parking is hard to find in the area. Driving in and out of the hotel is a little tricky because of the one-way street in front and heavy traffic.

The hotel overall was okay and in a good location. We experienced housekeeping which was very poor. We had nice fresh towels the first night we were there. After that, we never received a bath mat, wash clothes or hand towels. I had to ask for additional towels and then had to use one of them for a bath mat. The third day we finally got clean wash clothes but only after we asked for them and never did receive any hand towels. The coffee in the room was not refilled until the last night also. I hope from this point on other guests can receive better service from housekeeping.

The hotel is not brand new, like the facilities are a bit outdated. Towels could use replacing, and having only one elevator sometimes felt inconvenient. Overall, it’s decent, but some upgrades would make it better. The rest of everything is perfect! Great location, lots of restaurants nearby and offering all facilities(vending machines, washer/dryers, hot tub...)
