If you know me, you know that most of my reviews are usually three or four stars and higher; unfortunately, I can't give this hotel three stars because of the various issues we had here.
We were in room 401 and it was a nice corner room - it had two windows instead of one. On the day we arrived, in September, it was a little chilly out, so we tried to turn on the heat; unfortunately, we immediately noticed that the heat wasn't working. In addition, the hotel uses radiative heat and A/C; at first we thought our thermostat was just broken.
To the hotel's credit, when I called downstairs to ask about this, they immediately sent up an engineer who tinkered with the heat for a bit and then said that the radiator was missing a wire or something like that. He said that they didn't have any other rooms available that night but they could put us in a new room in the morning.
In the morning, I talked to Sophie (Sofie?) at the desk downstairs, and she gave me keys to room 305, assuring me that the heat worked in that room. Unfortunately, when I opened the door to the room and tried the heat, letting it run for a good 15 to 20 minutes, the temperature in the room had not increased, aka the heat didn't work. In addition, there was also a bee or wasp buzzing around inside the room, near the drapes, so we decided not to switch rooms. The hotel offered to get us a different room but at that point I was majorly fed up. They also offered me 3,000 IHG points, which I accepted, but that's about $30, and doesn't accurately compensate us for having no heat for the past 4 days - luckily, the weather has been on the hotter side for Sept/Oct, and we've been running the fan and AC instead.
Other than that, pros and cons -
Pros:
-very close to the airport, it was actually like a one-minute drive
-The bed is extremely comfortable although it shakes a bit; my fiance thinks it's a king bed on a queen mattress frame
-every standard room or at least every standard king room has a couch
-free hot breakfast daily, we've indulged in it every other day and they have things like bacon, eggs, yogurt, even chocolate milk
-does have a pool although we have not used it
-the Wi-Fi is very fast when it works. Sometimes it takes a few tries to connect, at least on my phone and iPad Mini
-Ample parking
-Walls are pretty soundproof as others have mentioned here, although one time while in the bathroom I did hear someone next door on the phone with the front desk asking if the hot water could be fixed, see below for more info on that...
-I got a little goodie bag when I checked in, probably because I am IHG Silver since I have the credit card. It had a bottle of water, a bag of chips, and a bag of Swedish Fish in it.
-rooms have microwaves and minifridges
Cons:
-another big con that I did not mention before is that we haven't really had hot water either. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the water to get hot so usually I've been taking a bath and then leaving it on for my fiance so that he will have a hot shower, or vice versa. I love taking a hot shower or bath at the end of the day to relax and I can't even do that here.
-toilet technically worked but was a slow flush - so a few times I was worried it was clogged, but I just had to flush it twice (it didn't flush everything in it, including some TP)
Last year we stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick and although we had some minor issues with that hotel as well, they were definitely not as major as this one. Because of that, unfortunately I cannot recommend it, hence my two-star rating. The staff did try really hard to make things right which is why this is a two-star review and not a one-star.
