First you must consider the age of the building, it's a classic, walking into the main lobby gives you a feeling of nostalgia. I could visualize what it would have been like to walk in a hundred years ago during the Roaring Twenties. Even the elevator cars are original with the exception of the key card reader. Although the rooms have been modernized they still have the original hardwood floors which I found beautifully kept. That said there are no charging ports for laptops, tablets and phones so make sure you have charging blocks and cords. The beds were soft and comfortable with 4 duck feather chamber pillows that were comfortable with clean pillow cases and pillow protectors. The bed and comforters were synthetic fill and warm, very nice and clean. On the downside housekeeping could do a better job in the bathrooms we found hair on the floor. The bathroom towels and wash clothes were clean and looked almost new. The shower was great with plenty of hot water. Our coffee maker did not work properly. I have to wait until I got downstairs to have a cup of coffee. I did not have the time to call room service and have it taken care of. The Wi-Fi worked great on my tablets but slow on my laptop. Signal was good but not excellent.

My boyfriend and I needed a staycation and this place did NOT disappoint. The building is a historical building and it shows (in a good way). It's beautiful. The windows are huge, the room is huge and super spacious. We walked to The Shake Shack that was just a few minute walk and the food was delicious. The Jacuzzi was amazing. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. The complimentary breakfast was good and the employees are all so kind and accommodating. The only issue we had was our room temperature did not go above 68 degrees. We didn't mention it to the front desk because we were there just one night but we mentioned it at check out. They did advise they would get maintenance on it ASAP. Highly recommended! We are talking about going back again for his birthday in February and I'm so excited 😊

I love this old hotel. It's so quaint, with the brass elevators and marble floors. The location is perfect for seeing the sights. The rooms are very clean and quiet. The complementary breakfast buffet is amazing. The only downside is the sewer gas smell in the lobby. It's a terrible smell. I stayed there last month and I smelled it then as well, so it's definitely an ongoing problem.

Our room, hotel elevators, and hallways were dirty. I understand that the building is historical but there is no reason why an executive suite, which we had, should’ve been smelly, dirty, and as outdated as it was. A proper deep clean, an interior decorator, and an experienced contractor that pays attention to detail (cracks in floor, sealing edging of countertops, etc.) would help get that place into proper shape. Smell coming from our bathroom - possibly the drains - told the older women at front desk about our stay and she said “Well, this IS a Holiday Inn EXPRESS. The building is historic and there are changes that cannot be made”. Every building we visited during our visit to Cleveland as newlyweds celebrating our 1st NYE together was a historic building. The buildings we entered were clean and smelled fine except the building we stayed in. I have pictures of the room and how UN-executive the room status was. Im glad I brought my cleaning solution with me. I cleaned the room (especially the bathroom) when we arrived. We paid more for that room because of what we thought we’d get but were so very disappointed. Seeing that it was NYE and hotels around us were booked, we endured because were staying just for one night. My husband and I agreed - we will not be selecting that location again. It was one of the worst Holiday Inn/HIExpress hotels we’ve been too.

Google
Decent for a 1 night stay. Loved the history of the building. Rooms are big with hardwood floors but kind of dated and bland with your typical holiday Inn decor and popcorn ceilings. Main lobby was very weird layout and smelled funky like others have mentioned. Bathrooms are clean. This room had a tub/shower. The bed are decent but the pillows are way too soft. I don't like it's only valet parking or you park somewhere else off-site. Breakfast was mid despite multiple hot breakfast items. Holiday Inn should've spent more money to make this a little nicer. Could've been a very nice place to stay downtown.

Google
Positive: The location was only .5 miles from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, and had plenty of food options nearby. The rooms were GIANT! Our interactions with the staff were great! Negative: Old building with some interesting smells on the first floor and elevator. Older finishes in the room, but well kept.

Google
Lovely hotel in the Old Bank, with high ceilings and ornate decor. 100 year old lifts so were sometimes temperamental. Great location for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Browns and Guardians Stadiums, and down to the water front. There was a good selection of restaurants just across the street. No ice machine, but the lady in the breakfast area gave us ice when we asked in the morning. Good breakfast selection. Good room size, we had a double queen room, very spacious. Parking is expensive around the building, they do offer valet but it is still $39 Amazing showers, great water pressure.

Staying at this Holiday Inn Express was fascinating since the building used to be an old National City Bank (I think). This beautiful historic building was such a great place to stay. The rooms were so spacious. The marble floors were beautiful. The shower pressure (you know that’s important!) was great. The front desk attendants were so friendly. The guys doing valet were running their butts off & still had a smile on their face. By the way, there was no parking lot. You have to pay $40 a day for the valet parking, which was fine because we walked everywhere. We were going to a Cleveland baseball game, so it was in walking distance.

Yelp
Ok, first, the location is amazing. Downtown, right next to the Marble Room. Walking distance to everything. Rooms were large and well furnished. Ok, the building is older.. but so is most of the area. Breakfast was great with lots of options. Elevator is great, IF you also enjoyed the "Tower of Terror". LOL. ( It does work, though..) The main reason for my review, however is to mention a particular employee. I left my phone in the room and thought it was gone for good. I contacted the hotel and the housekeeper had turned it in. I wasn't sure what to do at that point, but then I was introduced to the Head of Security, Louis Underwood. Louis was amazing... It took a bit of effort to get the phone mailed back to me, (My mistakes) but Mr. Underwood stuck with me though the entire process and was instrumental in my phone being returned. im pretty sure that if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have gotten it back. Thank you, IHG for having such an incredible employee that goes above and beyond for your guests.

Yelp
We loved Monica at the breakfast bar!! She is the life of Holiday Inn Express Downtown Cleveland. She is so helpful and friendly. She makes connections with everyone and her services comes from the heart. We very much enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, we requested extra towels (for the in room jacuzzi) and they were sent up immediately. Wonderful views, central location in the city. Walking distance to Progressive Field, and Jake's Pizza for late night slices and ice cream :) But Monica was the real star of the show!! I would 100% recommend this location and hotel. The only thing I was not a fan of was the parking situation, it's valet only and costs $40 extra per day. But if you don't leave and come back it's not any extra hassle. Day 1 we went out exploring the area driving, but day 2- we walked so it was no extra time waiting. Thank you Monica and staff :)

Yelp
Great rooms. Great breakfast. Great location. Historical building. Helpful staff. In room coffee was great.

Yelp
Do not stay here and do not use the valet service! They stole items out of my car! On top of that, the hotel is definitely not what I expected out of a 4 star hotel. I get that it's a historical building but the hallways were dated and smelled terrible, and the rooms and bathrooms were very dated. Only nice thing was that the rooms were a nice size. I do not recommend.

Yelp
Stayed 3 nights, beautiful building, large spacious rooms. Front desk refused to do a late check out because lack of housekeepers

Melitta S.

Yelp
Location is superb!! We came for a Cavs game and it was perfect walking distance even in the winter night. Checkin was seamless and receptionist was amazing. She was friendly, funny and outgoing. Our room was nice. I only deducted one star because the shower was cold. They also had a Happy Hour from 5:30-7 pm which had free wine and beer plus snacks. They gave us a bottle of moscato. Definitely a nice surprise

Yelp
8/2023 We stayed at the HIX Downtown. The Guardians were home and a Broadway tour was also playing. The theater district, Guardians, Browns, Rock & Roll are all walking distance from the HIX. Cleveland is clean & safe. The hotel was clean and safe. The hotel was ok. They get a B-. I'd probably stay here again if the price was right. Areas of improvement... The front desk staff was unable to recommend restaurants near the theater. They did not have a list. The people at the front desk were basically clueless as to what's around the theater or even which theater had the Broadway show. Valet parking is a hot mess. There is a self parking garage around the corner. It's got to be better than the valet. It takes 25 min to drop a car and 45 min wait for the car to be retrieved. All this for $39/night. They do not have luggage carts at the valet area. My car was not damaged. The breakfast area was standard HIX, except they only had one worker. She was doing the best she could, but this is a two person job. They also had a tip jar which I (like most Americans) have tip fatigue. I think it looked cheesy. My room lacked a safe.

Yelp
Located in downtown Cleveland in a repurposed banking office building, this hotel is within walking distance of the Browns football stadium, the Guardians baseball stadium, the Cavilers basketball arena and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. As the Guardians and Browns were both in town last weekend, hotel prices were at a premium, and this place had the best (though still expensive) prices. I noticed a lot of Cleveland sports fans tend to stay overnight in the local hotels after the games, thus this is where the hotels make their money. I wanted to give this place three stars, but the cons just outweighed the pros. Pros: Check in is at 4:00pm, but we got there at 1:00pm and after a bit of looking for two clean rooms on the same floor, they checked us in early. Free bottled water at the front desk. The two double bed room was HUGE. Beds and pillows were comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was excellent. The temperature control in the room worked fine (I set it at a comfortable 68 degrees). The free buffet breakfast in the morning was very good. Scrambled eggs, sausage patties and links, biscuits and gravy, omelets, do it yourself pancakes, hot and cold cereal, pastries, yogurts, juice and coffee. You won't go hungry. Cons: The elevators are a mess. The key cards don't always work. And they woodwork in the elevators is so worn, they look like service elevators. The gym had no towels nor any wipes to clean the equipment. The gym only had three machines (treadmill, stationary bike and an elliptical) plus a weight machine and some dumbbells. The treadmill worked fine, the elliptical had no power and one of the hand grips was missing, and the seat of the stationary bike looked so worn out, I was scared to use it. On Sunday, at 10:00am, house keeping came. I told them we would be out by 11:00am to go to the Jets/Browns game, so come back then to service the room. At 11:00am we left, even waving goodbye to housekeeping as they serviced another room. When we got back at 7:00pm that night, we discovered the room was not serviced. And the front desk seemed indifferent, saying housekeeping had left for the night. They did send up a roll of toilet paper, as I requested though. And Monday morning, I found a cockroach scurrying around the bathroom tub. Two stars.

Freddyc M.

Yelp
Shockingly spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, well equipped bathroom and the valet service was the most efficient well-run operation I've ever seen! The breakfast was very good with hot and cold items and the staff were friendly and responsive when I needed extra towels or food accommodation. Walking distance to the guardian stadium, playhouse square, west side food market and rock and roll hall of fame.

Yelp
While the hotel its self it's nice, the area is horrible. Located a block from the main bus terminal, there is no shortage of drug addict or homeless to chase you down asking for money, or trying to sell stolen cell phones while they openly smoke marijuana. Not safe to walk around sight seeing with kids. I didn't feel safe at all. We stayed maybe 15 min in our room before deciding to leave because the area was that sketchy. Our kids actually told us they didn't feel safe and were scared. We are out the cost of the room, but still cheaper than having my car broken into.

Jason B.

Yelp
Spire member here and this is the first time staying @ this location. Check in process was quick and painless my first room they put me in ( 809 ) had been smoked in so they moved me up to ( 1009 ) and was much better. The king room was very large & had good views of downtown. The walls are thin because u can hear everything from the adjoining rooms. There was a giant bathtub but I didn't use it. Shower was decent and had super hot water. Breakfast was decent as well

Erica R.

Yelp
First of all, the location for this hotel is awesome. I was staying in Cleveland mainly to get to games at Progressive Field, but it's in walking distance to so many great restaurants, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, aquarium, and so on. Even just walking to Progressive Field from the hotel, I was walking by these outdoor seating areas with lights strung above... it was just such a nice and inviting area. As for the hotel, the service was really great, the room I had came with a great view, everything appeared to be clean (and was comfortable), and the entire process of staying here was just very smooth. I love traveling alone (freedoooooom!), but, as a woman, I also want to make sure wherever I stay is safe and comfortable. This hotel had those bases covered, for sure. The only reason this review isn't 5/5 is because of wonky little things like the curtains for my room having some mechanical/movement issues... and I didn't want to tug or pull too hard on anything for fear of causing a bigger issue. Also, valet parking costs seem pretty high when I literally parked my own car in the garage next door and paid substantially less. And the WiFi was kinda glitchy. TL;DR Definitely considering this hotel for the next time I stay in Cleveland as well. Location + service is hard to beat for the price range.

Yelp
Pros: Big rooms Comfortable beds Good toiletries Fast check in Right smack downtown Free breakfast Free WiFi Free happy hour Tuesday- Thursday RTA and free trolley across the street Cons: None Arrived and were immediately greeted. Our room wasn't ready, but 20min later we were able to early check in. We Stayed in Room1101 The room was big and clean. It had a refrigerator and microwave along with a small sink. The keurig provided could be use for coffee or tea. The bathroom had a huge tub. I didn't use it, but I'm sure two people fit in it. The toiletries included shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, make up wipe, and a shower cap. A blow dryer was available. The included breakfast was good. Cold options were typical continental breakfast. Hot options included egg white omelet, regular omelet, pancakes, sausage, oatmeal. They even had Cinnabon's. Tip: Take the redline RTA from the airport. Get off at tower city center and you will be a short walk away from the hotel. Only $2.50 each way and pretty fast.

Jon H.

Yelp
Location: Perfect. Close (walking) proximity to restaurants. Close (driving) proximity to activities for families such as the Zoo, Aquarium, Children's Museum, etc. Room: Large and comfortable. Our standard room was very large compared to a Holiday Inn Express. No carpets (hardwood floors), but that wasn't an issue for us. We were on an upper floor away from the street, and never heard a single noise from the street or other rooms. Nice and quiet. Amenities: Free standard Holiday Inn Express breakfast. They had a staff member hand you the food you want, due to COVID. Food was as expected. Parking: Valet parking only and there's a hefty extra nightly charge for parking. Probably a standard cost compared to most downtown hotels but it still felt like a bit much.

Yelp
This is the worst service hotel i have ever stayed in all my life. Had to switch rooms 3 times, no heat, room flooded because room above had broken pipe, had to leave hotel in middle of night and drive home in ice storm, and the hotel did absolutely nothing .

Evan W.

Yelp
Trash. They like to steal from their guests and months later you will still be waiting for money!

Mel T.

Yelp
I really don't like reviews like this one. Momma taught me if you have nothing nice to say then don't say it. To begin this awe full nightmare checked in about 6pm no one available to assist with cart, luggage. The security guard on duty way to busy flirting with young women, could have cared less about security. The building, elevator and room not conducive to those with physical medical conditions. Then at about 1 am was awoken by a horrific odor in room similar to a skunk odor, at about 2 am awaken again by a person moaning and screaming, very loud banging noise from another room that continued for a least 45 to 60 minutes. When I checked out had informed staff at desk this nightmare and was told, "have a good day" . Would NOT RECOMMEND this hotel, go elsewhere.!

Kelly S.

Yelp
I choose this hotel because it is in walking distance of the Quicken loans arena and valet parking was affordable at $24 a night.Checking in was easy but there was quite a long line, a lot of people checking for the concert and baseball game going on in the evening. The elevators are very small and seem old. However the room itself was so huge...hard wood floor, high ceiling and two queen sized beds. Nice long desk and a chair with a footstool and we still had plenty of open floor space. We had a great view of the city from our large windows. Upon check in I was told about a complementary happy hour with free appetizers and drinks (we were given 3 drink coupons per person) We decided to check it out, there were a few snacks out like cheese crackers and veggies. But I was more interested in the beer :) I was surprised at how many different beer and wines they had to offer. We had a few bud lights and then were off to dinner. Dinner ended up being a bit of a bust so we returned for another round of free drinks! In the morning we checked out the continental breakfast, i was really good. So many different options from scrambled eggs, fresh made pancakes, yogurt, oatmeal, fruit and these delicious cinnamon icy sticky buns. I loved the to go soy milk... lots of healthy choices here too. A perfect way to end our stay here.

Ashley W.

Yelp
This Holiday Inn exceeded my expectations and needs for me and my friends for a smashing good time and feeling a bit spoiled by all the awesome extras available! This building is historic and nostalgic. Golden crown molding, various 19th century design elements in this old converted bank. The check in was quick and the staff was super friendly! We were offered drink and refreshment tickets in their dining area and that was unexpected! Wine and dined, sign me up! They offered complementary breakfast and it was all real food! A pancake machine, eggs, bacon, sausage, and coffee; you name it! The rooms were comfortable and the bed was so soft! I felt nothing but coziness while being enveloped in such thick covers. The bathroom was prestine and the shower water pressure was amazing! Such luxury in the middle of the week. I love how they were asking guests to reuse their towels and had refillable shampoo, conditioner and body wash! Good for you Holiday Inn! We were so close to various restuarants and the House of Blues. Shopping and food right next door. This place is so worth it!

Yelp
So wifey and I stayed for two nights in late August 2018. We had a king size suite on the 5th floor that was away from the elevators. Which I put on my profile when booking a room. As a IHG gold member we had a few extra perks this time. Added points on checking in and more when leaving. The biggest for us though was the hot tub in our room. It's an older building that was built somewhere in the 1800's that used to be a bank. Hardwood floors throughout this place. Didn't get a chance to try the complimentary breakfast on Mezzanine floor. There is a charming little diner on the lobby level that was open for breakfast and lunch. That place was open till 2:00 in the afternoon. So many other choices to dine on 4th Street. Only a few blocks away. Nice hotel if you're going to a sports event that is less than one mile from this hotel. About a 20 minute ride from the airport. Plus blocks away from the red line station at Tower City.

Yelp
This hotel is located in a wonderful part of downtown Cleveland. Walking distance to the baseball stadium as well as lots of great restaurants and bars. It was also very easy to find right off the interstate. We reserved a suite and the space was massive- very large sitting room, small kitchenette and bedroom. However the bedroom and sitting room were only separated by a half wall. The space also offered large windows overlooking downtown and the lake. The building is very very old. You could hear doors slamming from inside ours. Also, cleaning service had missed a chunk of sausage on the floor from prior guest. Staff was friendly and I would stay here again- price was very reasonable.

Miranda T.

Yelp
This hotel exceeded our expectations, especially for the price the perfect location downtown with several restaurant options within walking distance. The building and lobby has beautiful historic charm and opulence. The room was very clean and spacious with high ceilings, and hard wood floors. The beds were so comfortable with nice clean crispy sheets and all of the staff (the valet, the front desk person and the breakfast server) were all extremely friendly and courteous!!

Patrick D.

Yelp
Hell yeah, I'm giving a Holiday Inn Express a 5-star review. Sure, there may be more luxurious places to stay, but everyone here was doing everything they could to make this as good as it could be, from the valet, to the check-in clerk...we even met a "guest experience manager" (or something like that) who made sure we had everything we needed. EXCELLENT customer service across the board. And an excellent value all around. A special note on the rooms: They are impressive. Big, open, high ceilings, and nice decor. Definitely not what I expected, in the best possible way. Oh, also...great location. Easy to walk to all sorts of places.

A'Lia M.

Yelp
Suuuuuper basic in furnishings, decor, amenities, and breakfast. We stayed here because it was cheap and right next door to the Marble room and we were having dinner there that night. Then going for drinks on E. 4th. The best thing about the hotel is the price and location to most things downtown.

emmanuel c.

Yelp
From upon arriving the outer entrance did not appear to be a clean welcoming experience, continuing into the lobby too check in the dated desperate cry for help decor seemed hideous, furniture was filthy and smelled so bad I immediately stood up fear of catching something from the deplorable chairs and the dust that filled the fake plant bowl underneath the credenza, the lobby just cried for help which made me feel uncomfortable continuing on to our room. It was just a very unpleasant cold dated filthy arrival, this, I will not book ever again, hopefully, they can update and freshen up the appearance inside and put for a more welcoming presentation, and the filthy dirty old furniture in the lobby lounge. That smelled like bad body order omg! Unsanitary.

Itsirc H.

Yelp
great hotel -- large rooms, clean, cool older building. but not letting staff tell you the parking nearby is cheaper when you ask is cheap.

Pamela S.

Yelp
When we first pulled in, a valet guy approached the car to tell us that we could not park in the hotel parking lot. However, if we chose to valet we can pay $19 per night in addition to the overpriced room fee and taxes. We also had a choice to park in a parking structure down the street and take a shuttle back to the hotel. REALLY??! What kind of mess is that? I've been alive a very long time and never heard of anything like that. Then we get inside and another guy shoves one of those useless paper masks in our face. The line was out the door because there was only one receptionist. I would have demanded our money back but my husband would have been embarrassed.

Corella D.

Yelp
We've stayed here several times. It's within walking distance to several restaurants and House of Blues. It's very interesting inside since it was an old bank. The rooms are spacious with tall windows. They have hardwood floors, cool modern furniture and light fixtures. The lobby still has a lot of detail from when it was a bank.

john s.

Yelp
Good location. Building is run down. Worst Holiday Inn, that we stayed at. I don't recall the number of floors 15 maybe, but there are only four three person elevators. The cards need to be inserted a certain way and time just right. Ice machines did not work. The bathroom spigot and water control lever were loosely attached to the wall, with 3 inches of play. The lock only had one screw. They do not have a parking garage the valet told me if your not going in and out it's cheaper to use the garage down the block. It ended up costing more. Everything about the hotel was run down.

Tyler A.

Yelp
Stayed here for a week during my vacation in the city. The building surprised us, as it has a beautiful lobby. Appears to be an old, historic, bank. Staff was polite and courteous, room was clean and modern, and it was kept up on while we stayed. Breakfast was good each day. The hotel is in the heart of the city, so it allowed us to explore and walk to the various places we wanted to visit. An excellent hotel.

Yelp
This experience makes me want to stay in Holiday Inns more often. I was off of the HI bandwagon for several years after an awful experience at one of the old-school Holiday Inns that was in desperate need of demolition/"nuke and pave". Then I started booking some of the HI Expresses here and there....and they are generally solid. This HIE is in a historic building downtown; walking in feels like a doorman building in any big city environment and the hallways to the rooms resemble a typical apartment building. There was some construction going on as they are updating things, but the room REALLY surprised me (in a good way). It was huge - high ceilings, lovely wood floors, a separate mini kitchenette area (small sink, mini fridge and little coffee maker), nice flat screen TV (with pretty good channel selections), a separate lounge chair/ottoman, desk area and even a whirlpool tub (which I didn't book...do all of the rooms have these??). Oh - and this was a room booked on points...sweet!! I didn't take advantage of the happy hour (arrived too late) nor the complimentary breakfast (left in a hurry), but I did valet park my car. It's about $25 per night (I only stayed one night) - which was totally worth it to not have to drive and walk a few blocks after my extraordinarily long drive (12 hours). Staff was super friendly and the room was very clean. A few nooks and crannies of the room showed the age of the hotel, but it seems like they have been keeping up on updates pretty well. The elevators are very tight and oddly shaped....but this is a retro-fitted, renovated historic building. I will totally stay here again if I come back to Cleveland.

Care M.

Yelp
Just checked in. Requested a high floor when I made the reservation but didn't get one. The AC is not working, informed the front desk and they said they would send maintenance up. It is almost 80 degrees in the room and can not get comfortable. I wonder how long it will be before maintenance comes. Also, light flickering in the bathroom is dizzying. This hotel is not what it used to be.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Honestly, this building in downtown Cleveland should not be in operation. I am an experienced commercial interior designer and the interior of this building needs a complete overhaul including mechanics, material finishes and furniture as is currently disgusting. The building has a terrible old smell being masked by some kind of freshener of some sort immediately upon entrance. The elevators consistently do not work with the room cards and had to change cards several times. Not to mention the customer service was not great either. Upon our arrival the woman checked us in and did not make us aware that we were not going to receive the room style we chose and paid for until we got to the room and of course realized we were assigned a room with a sofa bed in lieu of 2 queen beds as we were traveling with 2 kids and had actually promised them we would book real beds as sofa beds are typically uncomfortable. To make matters worse my children were disgusted by the sofa bed as it should be thrown away, with fabric torn and stained and mattress paper thin. We immediately called the front desk to get our room changed and we were told we were out of luck rooms were over sold and we could speak to a manager in the morning. Needless to say we had immediate regrets on choosing this hotel and we're in disbelief on how a Holiday Inn chain could be this awful. We have stayed with this chain before and honestly could not believe what we were experiencing and the rate we had to pay for such a delapidated building. It's a complete rip off and scam to charge patrons the rate for this building merely because of its location and people's need to stay downtown. The 3 pro's include the location, the beds were ok and the rooms were large, literally everything else needs an overhaul and I would strongly consider the CEO himself stay this hotel for his or her own judgement. Now we did have our room changed the next morning to what they called the penthouse suite having 2 queens and a separate living space but this also had a disgusting stained sofa and cheap tables, dirty old doors, horrible paint job everywhere, cracked bathroom tile with crappy caulking and old showers. What is more of a joke actually is that the room with a sofa bed could easily fit 4 king beds but it was intentionally cheapened out to create a lesser room category with extremely crappy old furniture. Now it may sound like I'm just a complainer however, this may be actually the first review I've ever made time to write as it's a disservice to those looking for a quality hotel downtown having advertised with 4 stars and could easily be compared to a run down motel and am suspicious of how this could possibly have a 4 star rating

Yelp
What an amazing hotel. Every part about our stay was fantastic. We chose to do the valet for $24 a night. The guys working it are super nice and timely to get your vehicle should you need it. Check in staff was awesome. We had forgotten a few things and they were able to accommodate us. Also we had 2 separate reservations (one night with points, other we paid). It was a very easy transition and they gave us a better room for the second night for the moving trouble. We also were given late check outs both mornings. Yay for sleeping in! The breakfast is free each morning. And it's actually a good continental breakfast. Fruit, bagels, eggs, cinnamon rolls, pancakes, meats, etc. Rooms are the true show stealer though. They are HUGE. The ceilings are high, they have hardwood floors. I mean it's as clean as can be. Was so impressed with these rooms. And you cannot beat the location. Center of downtown and close to tons of restaurants, bars. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We've stayed at this hotel twice and it's checks off the boxes for an average hotel. It's clean, it's spacious, the bed isn't terrible (but the pillows were) and it's centrally located downtown in the mix of everything. My main gripe is always the tiny shower heads, which this one is no different and definitely just sends a straight stream of water directly at your face, but doesn't cover your entire body. Ya feel me? The room really is one of the biggest hotel rooms I've stayed at, so it was perfect for me, my husband and our son. We had to set up his pack and play to sleep in, and we had ample room to do that. There's nice hardwood floors too, so no worry about dirty carpets. I don't know why more hotels don't do this. They offer complimentary breakfast and there's no surprises there. It's exactly what you'd expect from a comp breakfast, but I have to say, there's a good variety of it. It's not the best, but it passes. I wish there was more fresh fruit. There was only apples and old oranges. I opened one orange and could tell right away it was old. We also had trouble getting our car from the valet. It was Sunday morning, so we tried first to call down, but our phone in the room didn't work. So we called again from the front desk and no one answered. So we had to flag someone down once they showed up with someone else's car. We then waited another 15 or so minutes to get our car. So realize it's not a fast process. Overall a budget friendly hotel in downtown Cleveland.

Yelp
Valet parking was nice and you get in and out privileges without having to pay each time. I forgot something in my car and they asked if I want the car brought around of have them get it for me. That was nice! Price for parking wasn't bad for that 27.00+2.16 tax. I go to check in and had a problem with my reservation and they had to rebook me for the same room for 204.00 plus 33.66 in taxes. The two people at check in were very rude to all the guests checking in. The elevators are so small and stuffy. We get off on our floor and there is a very musty odor. Inside the room the musty smell was very strong! The room itself was clean. Did the whole room check for bed bugs and it was good. I travel with Lysol and Lysol wipes and when I wiped down the non cloth chairs and benches I was surprised they were clean. Same with the remote. The bathroom could use a makeover. You can hear all the doors slamming and clicking and I guess I didn't notice this non stop fan blowing sound (kinda like a bathroom fan) going nonstop. As I fell asleep all of a sudden there was this noise that made me fly out of bed because I didn't know what it was. Almost like a dehumidifier kicking on and rattling and buzzing. This sound came on I swear every 10 to 15 minutes and lasted 5 minutes each time. So because of that I didn't get much sleep. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Over all it was okay. Would I stay here again probably not. Way to loud and the musty smell just made it not worth it. I did take videos of the sounds I wish I could post it. I did end up posting a clip of the noise under the main photos

Yelp
Stayed in room 0911 Double queen Room it was very spacious With a let out couch, slept a family of 5 comfortably almost looks like a small apartment. Free WiFi, valet parking, complementary breakfast, they also have a small game room with a pool table we Made it to town a bit early and tried to check in earlier had to wait for a hour or so before my room was ready but that was expected. Beds are fairly comfortable would definitely stay there again.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to stay in Cleveland. It's near everything I like to visit (except Happy Dog and the Zoo). I walk to the aquarium, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Progressive Field, Quicken Loans Arena, and a ton of bars and restaurants. Friends walk to the Casino. Mass Transportation is right out in front to head out to the museums (or Happy Dog) and the Red Line to the airport is only a few blocks away. There's also decent shopping if you lost your man card at Harry Buffalo the night before. The people at the front desk are always awesome. This visit was no exception. The rooms are very comfortable. We had extra pillows left for us. TV programming was great (to fall asleep to... Harry Buffalo...). The room was quiet and very clean. Bathtub whirlpool shower setup was really nice. We had one strange experience that did detract from the stay. We were up on the 11th floor and Sunday morning around 9:30-9:45 one of the housekeeping staff knocked on the door. When I answered it she told me it was time to check out. I asked her if checkout wasn't at 11 which is what the IHG app said. She gave me a dirty look and walked away. I heard her knocking on other doors and telling other guests it was time to check out as well. That's never happened to me here before (or anywhere) and I doubt management knows about it. She really confused me so I looked up checkout time on the app again and on the internet and it was 11. Not sure what her issue was, other than she wanted the guests to leave! Anyway I'm not dinging them for one bad employee. This is a great hotel. They do everything right and again the front desk is wonderful. If you haven't stayed here, give it a shot. Like me, I'll bet you keep going back!

Yelp
I absolutely loved my stay here! This hotel has so much character. The entrance is so historic and the rooms are huge. The high ceilings and beautiful hardwood floors truly made this experience for me. I felt like I was staying in luxury, but without breaking the bank. There are also a lot of different restaurants and fun things to do around this area. I would highly recommend this hotel! The only thing I wish the rooms had were a fridge or microwave. That would have been really nice to be able to store leftovers from the local restaurants.

Yelp
The staff is very attentive and friendly. The hotel is older and could use some updates in the rooms but seems to be well maintained. Room 406 is spacious with a 20 foot sealing. Being well maintained and very close to the Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive Field as well as as everything else in downtown Cleveland makes this a great hotel in this area.

Yelp
This was our second stay. We love the area, the hotel is beautiful. The rooms are huge. However we stayed in 1403 and it was a beautiful room but the bed was horrible. Felt like you were sleeping downhill and it faces progressive stadium and the building across the street is all lit up. Even with the curtains pulled as closed as we could it was sleeping in the daylight all night. They need to put a cap on the top of the windows to block All that neon light coming in. It was awful. Between it and the horrible bed I was up all night.

Yelp
This hotel was very wonderful in many ways. The architecture of the building with all of its charm and characteristics was beautiful. Each staff member I interacted with was friendly and more than helpful. They always had smiles on their faces and were always ready to lend a hand or a suggestion for where to go nearby. The room itself was spacious and clean. The room had ample lighting, a nice sized tv, and a small kitchenette for use. Staff delivered fresh towels not long after checking in and everything was very clean and fresh. The hotel has Floor "M" which has the breakfast bar, a small arcade, and a pool table in the lounge for guests. The breakfast had many options for everyone and was a big hit with everyone. Plenty to choose from and it's all free! The biggest drawback of my stay here was the elevators. Due to the age of the building, as to be expected, the elevators were extremely slow and very tiny. There were 4 elevators but not all of them were working at the time. I waited 10 minutes for an elevator to come to my floor before taking the stairs down. Even the few times an elevator did stop at my floor, it was full with about 5 people in it..even less if they had luggage. If you go on a busy weekend, this will definitely be something that holds you up and causes some frustration.

Yelp
I loved this hotel! My boyfriend and I were in town for a day for a Cavs game! The location is perfect, it Is right down the street (walking distance) of the Q, I loved my room and the staff was super friendly! We checked in early and was able to relax! Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

Yelp
Stayed here because there was a block of rooms for a wedding. Can't say I loved it. First of all the hotel is old. That's fine but the elevators are small and kind of claustrophobic. Gym is small. Two treadmills, a bike, an elliptical, bike and some weights. Free breakfast is ok. You get what you pay for basically. There were some eggs, sausage, bacon, bagels and other continental choices. My room (506) was right near the elevator and ice machine. So noisy all night long. Also the noise from the streets and hallway can be heard through the walls. Someone also smoked the entire time on my floor and I complained however it continued. The room had small bugs and a shower drain/plug that didn't work. The hotel has a lot of nearby restaurants, bars and diners but be careful when you walk as there are a lot of panhandlers who come right up and follow you asking for money. Parking is valet or a parking garage that you pay to park in. Don't think I'd go back. The only thing that wowed me was the personality of the employees.

Yelp
I am really enjoying my stay at this hotel. I am in town to see a Browns game and the location is excellent. It is walking distance to the stadium which is what I was looking for. It also is conveniently located in downtown with restaurants, grocery store and a CVS drug store, also all in walking distance. My son has had some sinus issues since we got here and boy have I visited the CVS almost every day to get some kind of medicine for him. This hotel is also in a historic building. I find that to be very cool. Even though the building is old, the rooms and hallways have a pleasant clean smell to them. The rooms are also very spacious. My last comment is that the free breakfast included at this location is very good. Tons of choices for just about anyone to get fed quickly and out of the hotel to do things you came to the city to do. I am a fan of the IHG brand. I will definitely consider staying at this location again if I come back to Cleveland.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel -- such an awesome room. Excellent view from the 14th floor. Best part of our experience: the excellent customer service skills of our valet (Isaiah) and the night manager (Santino). Booking.com lost our reservation (which we had payed in full over a month ago), but Isaiah and Santino worked extra hard to make sure we got an excellent room for the same amount we had payed in advance.

Yelp
The continental breakfast is awesome! That's the first thing you need to know. Secondly, and probably most importantly, you couldn't ask for a better location. It's smack dab in the middle of downtown Cleveland, near many corporate businesses as well as casual and finer dining establishments. You're a short walk away from what reminded me, vaguely, of Bourbon St. And the service and accommodations leave nothing to complain about. The building itself was a delight to me since it, like other buildings in the hood, dates back to the 1800s. Converted and renovated, this Holiday Inn Express is probably one of the handsomer and more atmospheric ones you'll find in the country. The mezzanine level, where you can find aforementioned awesome breakfast, is a nice lounge area with a variety of seating options (couches, tables, bar tables, etc.). Your selections include pancakes from a patent-pending pancake machine/dispenser, scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, bagels, donuts, oatmeal packets, juice, coffee, tea, and more. The common areas are kept very clean, which is nice. On the lobby level, they also have a smaller lounge area with a TV and popcorn machine! Our room was large and airy. The decor is modern in contrast to the older building and gives the room an even more spacious appearance. Offered toiletries include Bath and Body Works products, shower cap, and other nice accessories. Like the public areas, our room was well-maintained and more than met my standards for cleanliness. I would highly recommend this hotel to you if you're visiting Cleveland for business or pleasure.

Yelp
For a Holiday Inn Express this was one of the best "regular" hotels I've ever stayed at. I've only stayed at a handful of upper class hotels and those were pretty nice. But when you book a chain hotel your expecting a chain hotel experience. This location is far from that. It is inside what seems to be an older downtown Cleveland building. The lobby area is very simple with a desk set up down the hall from the elevators. The elevators are very old fashioned with gold style plated doors and wallpaper interior. It can be a tight fit for a group of 4 or more. We had a room with two queen sized beds and the room was phenomenal. It had all wood floors and 20 foot ceilings. It had all the standard accommodations including; TV, internet, speaker dock for an apple device, complimentary breakfast, the works (no fridge). I have never been this impressed by a hotel and I would stay here again in a heart beat. We parked across the street the whole weekend and the rate was discounted to $14 for the entire stay, talk about a deal. They make you sign a waiver about keeping your "party" volume down to a minimum after 9pm. That shouldn't be a problem if you are planning on going out though.

Yelp
We stayed there Christmas weekend and I can tell you how many issues there was with this hotel. First room they gave us had no heat. Elevators rarely work. We woke up in middle of the night in our second room to water pouring from ceiling. The front desk gave us another room 3 floors down from that room, only to have the same thing happen in that room as well. They gave us a room directly below were the issue was happening. Nobody was sympathetic or seemed to be remotely apologetic for what was going on. We had to pack up in and drive home 4 hours in the middle of the night. We have contacted holiday inn on multiple levels about this issue and have had ZERO response, Not one call or email back, not even credit for another stay somewhere else. We have a open case with customer service and its been over a month with no help. Do not ever stay here or use holiday inn for that matter - horrible excuse for a company !!!
