Yelp
Probably OK for a night or two, but definitely not for any extended stay.
I got placed here by my work's logistics and stayed 20 days. I was not impressed. I'll start with what's good about this hotel:
1) The front desk staff is friendly.
2) The beds are comfortable.
3) They have more than your standard hotel gym, complete with two treadmills, one bike, one elliptical, and dumbbells going up to 50lbs. There's also a foam roller and an ab ball, which is a bonus.
4) The central location.
These perks, unfortunately, were not enough to overcome its shortcomings. The worst is the WIFI, which is HORRIBLE. They have three different networks that you can connect to, and all three are extremely spotty. I felt lucky if I got them to work for more than 5 minutes at a time. When one stopped working, they all did. Don't even try streaming anything. They changed the password three times during my stay, and informed me of two of them. The third one I had to call down to the front desk to get.
The hot water is spotty as well. It usually took at least 5 minutes of running the shower and sink in order to get warm-ish water. Every now and then I would get hot water, which would promptly go away, if anyone else in the hotel decided to shower, or wash their hands. When I informed the front desk of this, they sent a maintenance guy who ran the water for one minute before getting hot water (I had already run it for five minutes before he showed up). He mockingly asked me to put my hand under the water to see if it was hot. He then said that he would check the water heater, but I doubt that he did. Needless to say, being from California (always in a drought), I'm adverse to wasting water, so I took several cold showers, and usually had to wash my hands and shave with cold water.
They also had one of those "hang your towel, save water" signs in the bathroom, however, there are no hooks to hang your towels on, anywhere. I would hang my towel on the shower curtain bar, but they would be replaced everyday like clockwork. You would think that a desert town like El Paso would be mindful of water...
As mentioned above, the maintenance staff wasn't the best. My other run-in with them occurred in the gym. The music in there is really loud, and I couldn't find any controls for it, so I asked the front desk to turn it down. They sent in a maintenance man who laughed at me, and pointed to a light switch on the wall, which has no label on it at all. This light switch turns the music on and off. When I suggested that they should label it, he shrugged and walked away.
In summary, if you really like the IHG, or need the central location, and are only staying a night, or two, then this could be your hotel. Otherwise, I recommend you continue moving down the road. There are lots of hotel options in El Paso that are better.
