Holiday Inn Express Wilmington North - Brandywine by IHG

We stayed at this hotel twice in 3 weeks and there were problems both times. My partner & I are 78 & 80 years old and, on the first visit, had to move rooms because the air conditioning wasn't working. They moved us to a suite but were quick to tell us it would only be for 1 night & we'd have to move again. We found this hard to do at our age. The second visit, we noticed a gap between the faucet in the tub and the wall. My friend took a shower and when I went water cascaded out of the faucet between the wall and actual faucet. I turned off the water & pushed in the faucet and when I turned the water on again, the actual faucet shot across the tub. Had I been standing in the tub, I have no doubt I would have been hurt. I went down to the desk and TRIED to explain what happened to the guy on duty but his cell phone got most of his attention. He finally said a plumber would fix it the next day- they DIDN'T. This is a serious health issue and NOBODY seemed able or willing to fix the problem. We checked out & went to another hotel.

I am finishing a 4 night stay and I have never had such a miserable experience at a hotel and I’ve traveled all over and often! Got here on a Thursday night. Check in was as expected. The girl was pleasant enough but really could’ve cared less. I asked for a quiet room because the last time I stayed here I was put next to the elevator and ice machine. The room was dirty and looked like housekeeping rushed through making it up since the last guest. The walls must be paper thin and all I heard until around 2 am was doors slamming and people talking in the hallway. Noise started again around 5:30-6 am. Same experience Friday night and then at 5:30 am the fire alarm went off for 10-15 seconds then stopped. No explanation was given. No apologies. Saturday night, the Police Unity Tour stopped in for the night and it was awful. They made noise in the hallways well into the morning hours and then were up at 5:30 am making noise and talking loudly in the hallways. They then proceeded to congregate in the parking lot making a lot of noise, along with revving their motorcycles, until 7:30 am on a Sunday morning! Talk about inconsideration. Then when I was finally able to rest a bit more, housekeeping decided to start yelling to each other right outside my door at 8:30 am! Now I am not someone unforgiving and I understand that a little bit of noise is expected. I travel quite often so I’ve had all kinds of experiences, but this one takes the cake. I did express my issues with the front desk and all she said was sorry. She didn’t seem to really care much at all. I will end this by saying, if you’re an early riser than this hotel might not bother you, but if you are visiting family and want to sleep in and get some much needed rest, don’t bother!

I picked this hotel because it was very close to restaurants and shopping along with only being a 15 - 20 minute drive from the VA Hospital or ChristianaCare Wilmington Hospital. The rooms are very outdated. My room smelled like cigarettes. The room had no lights over the TV/Desk area. The bathroom sink was located outside the bathroom, and the bathroom tub had rust around the drain fitting. My wife told me. She had to remove the drain stopper because the water was backed up as she showered. I have a spine injury from serving in the U.S. Army. So I am unable to sleep on a soft mattress. Moreover, I had to sleep with my head at the foot of the bed because the bed has a slope. Therefore, I will be checking out in the morning.

The elevator worked about 1/3 of the time. Apparently the 2nd floor button was sticking, which the staff new about but didn't service. We stayed for 3 days. only one of the days had a complete breakfast. The last 2 days the attendant said his truck hadn't arrived and the hot foods were missing. The last day not only were the hot foods missing but there was no yogurt or fruit. The rooms were generally clean, but there were just stupid maintenance items overlooked. For example the bathroom door hinge plates were missing 1/3 of the hardware, and the shower curtain interfered with the door so the floor was frequently flooded. The room had two pictures in it, both were exactly the same. The pictures didn't interfere with the room per se but it showed a lack of care. Waste baskets on the property were overflowing, and the outdoor waste collection area, visible from our room, was overflowing during our entire stay. This hotel could be a good one if the management cared about the property.

My room was average & poorly cleaned. The lady when I checked out at least was nice & the only one that didn’t smell like marijuana. The best part of my stay was at morning breakfast. The attendant was absolutely wonderful & the food was terrific

Location and service was not the issue . This is an example of daylight robbery in corporate America. I made a reservation for 7/25/25 for two nights . My flight on 7/25/25 was delayed and I made a call to this hotel explaining this and they said no issues. I arrived with my friend at the hotel 7/26/25 2 am . While checking in at the front desk I asked the young nice fellow there if I would be charged for 7/25/25 his response was no. I checked out 5 pm 7/27/25 as I was charged extra for the few hours which I paid . Only to receive my final bill and it came to being charged for two nights and not one . I called customer care 7/29/26 and one of the representative’s name virel gave an awful attitude about my complaints . He gave a case number and it’s been over 72 hours not a word about my refund .

The hotel is of average value. Check in and out was seamless, room was comfortable. Elevator needs a paint job and breakfast service could be improved. While the food choices are good, items are not restocked and available during the posted breakfast hours. The person managing the area appears reluctant to replenish some of the hot foods even when asked.

Positive: The location was great, and the breakfast was excellent with a variety of choices. Negative: I did not like that the trashcans in the rooms did not have bags, was told it was a safety precaution for children but seems unsanitary. Also, the phone in my room did not work and the tub floor could use some detail cleaning it looked filthy.
