Holiday Inn Resort Bar Harbor - Acadia Natl Park, an IHG Hotel

Not bad overall and fair for the price. Bathrooms need updates and had some mold in the shower (yuck). Housekeeping didn’t come one day and when we asked for towels none were ever brought. The fridge ran too cold and the soda we had in there exploded. The bed was comfy. The TV was slow old and very and all boomer shows. The view was nice. The grounds are nice to walk in the evenings. It’s a bit of a walk to bar harbor proper but not bad on nice days.

Save yourself money when you book this hotel, and DO NOT book the rate that includes free breakfast. Run into town to grab something instead. You will save yourself time, money, and frustration. The restaurant is undersized (knowingly and admittedly by one of the managers) for the size of the hotel, there are too many 2-top tables, and not enough 4 tops and as a result, there was almost always a wait of 30+ minutes to be seated and when you finally are seated, the tables were half empty. We would sometimes be seated but not attended to right away and then witness others seated after us being attended to and served first. Generally the wait staff was fine (under-trained in some instances). Whoever was working the kitchen should be fired. In the 6 days we ate there, we never once had our order right (missing or incorrect ingredients) or the food properly cooked (raw eggs when asked for over medium). The only reason we kept going back was because it was “free” for 2 adults. The kicker was on the last day, even though we were seated right away and in a half empty restaurant, we still waited 45 minutes to be served our food (which came out wrong). When I complained to the hotel manager, she seemed mildly sympathetic but unmoved.

Checking in was not efficient, for sure, 3 blind mice kind of deal. Seemed as though everyone was new, or maybe one knew something. Attention was definitely not on checking us in. There is a restaurant on site, which states the have room service... lie. I was very upset when the 3 of us finally made up our minds as to what to order, call them, and they would not bring to our room. I called the front desk, and they really didn't know and didn't care. I brought it up the next morning to what seemed like the manager... excuses. I told him to use a Sharpie or duck tape so it didn't say they would bring food to your room....... bad business. However.... breakfast was so good x 2. French gave us impeccable service, and we requested him again the next morning. The food was so delicious and hot. I'm sure dinner would have been good, too... but we had travel snacks instead. Insert frowny face. The water was pretty at high tide anyway. Very relaxing on the patio. The walking paths around the grounds were very nice. We did not visit the pool nor whirlpool, but plenty of people did. The location was great. Acadia Park was close by. The rooms were quiet.

This hotel and resort were excellent! I was traveling with a group of friends on my first trip to Acadia and their first experience with IHG. The hotel is definitely a tad older, however the management has truly put their best effort into the hotel because it looks amazing. It was sparking clean, the landscaping and garden beds were freshly planted, and the lobby was nice! There was free coffee & tea always hot and available downstairs, and the breakfast sandwich from the restaurant was truly great. The biggest 5 star reason is the staff, everyone was extremely kind in check in! I had to write a paper for grad school and the staff walked me around to help identify some quiet writing space. When out at the pool there were employees maintaining the pool with fresh water and they kept the deck guest ready, picking up towels, and rearranging the chairs. The deck was clean and neat! If you stay here, sit in the hot tub or float in the pool as you look out over the sunset. Truly, as someone who stays frequently with IHG, this was truly divine.

We came here last August with our two dogs and really enjoyed our stay (but not so much the crowds of Bar Harbor) so decided to come back this year in mid May. Our dogs love the spacious grassy areas on the property that allow them to explore, go for oceanside walks, and play fetch. The pool was opened and is heated so we were able to get some swimming in even if the weather outside was still a bit chilly. It is also conveniently super close to both Acadia and the town of Bar Harbor. The staff here is SO kind and accommodating as well. Last year when we came we received doggy welcome bags at check in but didn’t this time so we asked, mostly out of curiosity. They apologized profusely and said because it wasn’t peak season the bags had not come in yet (completely understandable and not a problem at all for us). A few days later when we checked out, the staff at the front desk informed us that as an apology for not receiving our welcome bags, they had comped our pet fee and even gave us two doggy blankets that had just arrived that morning! Could not be more pleased with our stay and the amazing service we received here. We will definitely be back next year and years to come!

This is a classic example of bait and switch. We booked two rooms for four days on their website. We were put not in the main hotel (which has all the amenities advertised) but in an annexe which has small rooms, dirty corridors, broken equipment (hair dryer did not work, phone wasn’t operating when we got there). One room was smaller than the other and the larger room was next to an ice machine that hummed noisily all night. We asked for a room change immediately requesting that we be put in the main hotel where exercise, laundry facilities are available as advertised but were told that no rooms were available there and everything was full even though the hotel website was still selling rooms. The front office was not in the least helpful. When we asked them to explain why their website was still selling rooms, the guy at the front office (name beginning with T) said that if we booked at that point, they would have to move us to a sister property and that there were no rooms we could have in the main hotel. I believe it is dishonest to mislead customers through this type of false advertising and then not deliver on that promise. For $269 a night - this was simply not worth it. It truly was the worst part of the trip. We would have been better off at a motel. I would not recommend it despite the convenient location just because businesses like these mislead customers and should not be patronized. I understand others might have had a good experience here but this was ours.

We had a great experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean. The view from our balcony was perfect. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The restaurant at the facility was also good. We had dinner there and breakfast twice. We hope to return in the future.

The resort has a lot of potential but definitely needs some tlc. Our room was a basic hotel room but dated. We upgraded to a room with a view of the ocean, and they gave us a ground level room looking and bushes and a hot tub, not worth the upgrade. The building we were in also had a bad musty smell and had dehumidifiers running in the hallways. They have two restaurants and a tiki bar, but the only one open was the main restaurant for our entire stay. Having the other two open would have made the stay much better. Overall we were not happy our stay here as the price far exceeded the accommodations. My family was not happy here and we would not recommend this location.
