Catalonia has the potential to be a great hotel, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. The property itself is in a beautiful location, and the beach is clean and truly stunning. However, the overall experience was disappointing.
Many of the employees seemed unhappy or had an attitude, which really affected the atmosphere. Jamaica is known for its friendly and hospitable people, so this was surprising. The food was also very basic and bland far from the delicious, flavorful dishes you’d expect in Jamaica. Ironically, the Japanese restaurant was the best meal we had; they made Japanese food better than their own local cuisine.
I understand that the hotel was recently purchased and renovations are ongoing, but guests come to relax — not to listen to drilling and construction noise all day. It was impossible to rest, and the air conditioning in our room barely worked, making the stay even more uncomfortable.
I truly believe Catalonia can become an amazing resort with the right improvements better service, happier staff, flavorful food, and consideration for guests during renovations. Sadly, my four-day stay was far from relaxing, which is disappointing given the resort’s beautiful setting.
