My husband and I spent one week at Catalonia Montego Bay Resort. It was our first time at this resort.
The positives:
The staff was polite and accommodating. Our room was cleaned daily with new towels and water bottles stocked in the fridge.
There was a variety of foods at the buffet every day. However, a little repetitive. The food at the Italian and Jamaican a la cartes was excellent. The food at the Italian restaurant was delicious! Perhaps, one of the best Italian a la cartes that we have dined at... Our server, Cruise was very professional with a pleasant personality.
The entertainment on Friday night and the weekend was fantastic. On Monday night, there was an exceptional saxophone player!
There was a beautiful, peaceful island that you can walk to for lounging. The pool had activities and music all day.
The negatives:
The whole resort is very old and run down.
Our room was very old in building 2. The bathroom was awful. It was small; very outdated with a peeling ceiling and broken tiles. As well, there's no privacy in the washroom because you can hear the people in the room next to you through the vent.
At the food shacks, at times, they ran out of food. No sandwiches at the Bikini Bites; gin at the Grill snack bar; and straws.
The beach was really non- existent. It is very shallow at all times and the water gets very warm by the afternoon. When the water recedes, it is at your ankle. It's great for kids or seniors but if you want to swim, it's not the beach for you. The resort has very few huts for shade for the number of people.
Beware of internal soliciting by the sales people of the Exclusives Club which can take up 2 hours or more of your time selling you a membership.
Overall, our experience at this resort was mediocre and we probably would not return, unless improvements were made in the future.
