*Safety concerns lone female travellers* I checked in for a business trip this month. There was one other man waiting to check in. Instead of waiting behind me, he waited beside me. Staff did not step in to ask him to patiently wait behind me. When staff asked me to write down my personal contact details, phone number and vehicle make/model on the sheet of paper, I wrote it surreptitiously so that this man did not see, for my privacy and safety. The staff then took the sheet and placed it down right in front of him for him to see. Two other staff were attempting to scan my room cards in the machine to activate them. The staff member I was dealing with told them out loud my room number, where the the two other staff had to repeat it twice as they were initially having trouble. Thankfully, nothing bad occurred afterward. But this man was in plain view of my full name address, telephone number, vehicle information and room number. I don’t know what this staff were thinking, or if they’ve ever experienced the feeling of being stalked or a victim of a crime, but they absolutely need to do better. I am a lone female and travelling in a city I don’t know for work. Do better to protect our personal information!
