the niu Cobbles, a Design Boutique Hotel Essen, Germany

"niu Cobbles is situated in Essen, just steps from the city garden, the Essen Philharmonic, the Alto-Theater, Folkwang museum and the Glückaufhaus. It offers free high-speed WiFi and a casual atmosphere. The accommodation features an extraordinary inner design that reflect's Essen's proud mining tradition. Mining lamps hang from the ceiling and extra lighting is provided by pulley blocks. There are splashes of colour on the walls and Essen landmarks are depicted in each bathroom. There are also plenty of sockets, flat-screen TVs and USP ports. Breakfast at niu Cobbles features high-quality produce in a contemporary setting. Guests can enjoy this whilst connecting with other people both online and offline." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Really lovely hotel in the middle of Essen. The staff, who are available 24/7, were excellent and did everything the could to make our stay an enjoyable one. The hotel is not far from the main train station (Essen Hauptbahnhof) and Kennedy Platz. If you're getting a taxi to the hotel ask for ''The Niu' on Friedrichstraße or; as we found to our cost, when you ask for the Holiday Inn, they take you to the wrong hotel (twice in our case). The hotel is ideally situated for travelling by train to Düsseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund and Wuppertal.

Clean and modern hotel in the "niu"-Style. Decent-size room with very comfortable bed. Not much facilities (no fridge in room, no water provided...), and no gym facilities - but that is fine with the very reasonable price point. Some limited dining options at the reception bar in the evening (pizza or Flammkuchen). Overall all was fine and would book again.

We wanted to spend a few days in Essen to see several museums and the Unesco Welterbe in Essen. The hotel is relatively new and we were able to bring our dog with us. For guests with dogs they have special rooms which is OK, and it would be practical if the room could be chosen when one is reserving the room on their website. When you arrive and they see you have a dog, then your original room will be „downgraded“. The price for the dog is in my opinion too high with 25€/night. I personally don‘t believe that the cleaning of the room will be any different to „normal“, especially if the dog is well trained and clean. Parking costs 15€/night and spaces at the hotel limlted. Breakfast is good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. This was especially important when we spontaneously decided to shorten our stay, which was looked after by the manager very professionally.

The worst experience in Germany Room very small . No place to hang clothes I book 6 days The manager promise to refund 5 days After I check out from the first day because I can not stay more than one day . And till this moment Expedia. Told me they refuse to refund the 5 days . And until now the hotel says let Expedia contact us and we will refund the 5 days Do they are plying around .

I visited this place in October 2024, stayed two nights. Room is quite comfortable, the mattress is not very comfortable however OK. Somehow, I have the impression that the cleaners have not cleaned all surfaces properly. You could see some stains from previous guest left on tables or surfaces. Bathroom was nice and clean, however, a bit smelly, so I had to close the bathroom door before sleeping. The location is very close to some big companies, about five minutes away from Metro Station. Breakfast was quite nice and for €14.50 it was worse for the location and the amount of food.|The only downside was the air conditioning, which, as soon as you enter the room and put the card inside, it turns on automatically. So if you’re not careful, and go to sleep, you could wake up freezing. In general, nice hotel, and very good location . I will go there again.

The rooms are small however as we only used it to sleep it was ok. The bed and pillows are very comfortable and had a great night rest! The 2 person bed is actually 2 separate beds, which was great as it also ensured a better night rest (you don’t feel the movements of the other person). A big compliment for Amine who worked during the night. When coming back at the hotel, he welcomed us with a big smile. Amine baked a great pizza at night, and was very social. Also he helped a customer checking out it a professional manner. When I checked out, a lady helped me. I don’t know her name, but she was also very friendly. I for sure would stay in this hotel again for a weekend in Essen.

The desk staff was super welcoming and had a great attitude (shout out to Greta!). The room was bigger than I imagined, and the bed was probably the most comfortable one I had ever tried in any hotel. The connection to the train station was great (one metro stop and 2 minute walk to the hotel), and only a 10 EUR Uber ride at night. The breakfast was also very good, not huge but varied and of good quality. Overall I was very impressed about the overall experience and how little we paid. Absolutely recommended!
