I stayed here with 3 friends whilst we were walking Hadrian’s Wall. It’s quite out of the way, but if you’re walking the wall the path goes right past their back door! It’s set in an absolutely beautiful location and the owners are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable. Our bathroom was a wet room which is never ideal as the whole bathroom floor gets wet, but it was no problem. The breakfast was really delicious - including the best porridge of the week and the lunches we were given were lovely and all packaged without any plastic. We also had the sole use of a comfy living room to relax in. I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

Also have camping and camping barns. Barns are basic but excellent. Well organised, dry. We'd planned to camp but upgraded to a barn because it's a very wet day. Super pleased we did. Great shower and kitchen. No car access, you have to walk here!

My wife and I stayed at Holmhead Guest House recently (August 2019) after seeing that they are close to the Hadrian's Wall footpath and the Roman army museum ( I'm a bit of a history buff!!)||||Alan and his wife Judy were such warm, welcoming hosts and, after a long car journey, made us feel very welcome. The room was clean, comfortable and cosy; just what we wanted and were not disappointed. The bed was very comfy and the bathroom was spotless.||||After a quick shower each we went to the local pub in the village, the Greenhead Hotel, which was also good.||||All the produce is from local butchers for their full English breakfast. Tea, coffee, freshly made fruit salad (delicious),toast, jams, marmalades, etc, etc, etc were all on offer. For small business they certainly put on an impressive spread!||||Holmhead Guest House backs onto a delightful stream, a ruined castle making and the Hadrian's Wall footpath is literally just outside.

We stayed here on our third night hiking Hadrian's wall. It was due to rain that night, and instead of camping, we were able to sleep in the camping barn. It was decent enough, better than camping. Although the place could do with a bit of TLC. Some cladding on the roof, proper flooring, and some cleaning would be a huge improvement. ||||There was a toilet and shower with kitchen facilities in the next room which we were able to use, but someone had already crashed out and closed the curtains, as the sleeping area was in the same area... Instead we used the shower and toilet outside which wasn't the best experience. ||||A decent night sleep though :)

Staying here was a really pleasant experience. The host and hostess go the extra mile to make your stay a pleasant one. The accommodation is well placed for Pennnie Way and Hadrian's Wall walkers and there is a really good pub just a short walk down the lane. Delicious breakfast and good packed lunch to send you on your way the next day

I’ve stayed at Holmhead guesthouse a couple of times when walking Hadrian’s wall and the Pennine Way. It’s in a super location, right on the wall with views of Thirwall castle behind and fields in front. The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was hearty and fresh and just what I needed ahead of a day’s walking. If you’re looking to stay in a unique, historic home in a peaceful location then this is the place for you.

This was our second stay at Holmhead and we were so glad to come again. As before, our hosts treated us like VIPs. The full English breakfasts were delicious and cooked to order. The sliced fresh fruit was not needed but enjoyed. The setting is perfect. Previously, we have walked, given the ideal location, but on this short visit, we went to Carlisle for the poppy installation at the castle and did some shopping too. Our room was spotless, mattress comfortable, sheets ironed, tea setup just right, bathroom/shower just right as well. View from room beautiful. Can’t wait to return!

Camped here while hiking the Pennine Way. Perfect as right on the trail! Was the only camper and very grateful they let me stay as I think it was their day off! They even turned the drying room on for me which was a godsend as everything was soaked! Great views of castle ruin! Pretty location and building. Super easy access to Hadrian's Wall. Easy walk into the village.
