10 Epic Distilleries to Visit on Your Next Trip to Canada

"An ambitious, hand-built, eco-conscious distilling project on Vancouver Island where the founders are constructing a cutting-edge, carbon-neutral facility on a shoestring budget—repurposing a basement moonshine still into a custom copper energy-conservation system—and producing spirits like a brandy that features upcycled fruit." - Joanne Sasvari

I absolutely love Holocene Distillery, I was able to come down for a tour and a tasting and the owners are so friendly and knowledgeable. The place is so beautiful, they’ve really worked hard on making this place gorgeous! If you have chance to check it out I highly recommend it! Besides the vibes of the place, the actual product tastes amazing too! The flavors are so perfect they are so refreshing and delicious. My favorite part is the little piece of wildflower seed paper at the top of every bottle that you can plant and then use the super pretty bottle as a vase after! Total full circle and waste free! love love love!

Visited Holocene Distilling Project this morning. Enjoyed our tour and tasting. It was difficult to limit ourselves to 4 bottles because we enjoyed every sample. We were very impressed with the use of local ingredients, the sustainable thinking behind their production system and their use of “waste” materials like juiced lemons as flavouring ingredients. Check out their limited edition lost and found products too - currently a strawberry vanilla vodka - as further evidence of their sustainability approach in practice.

I brought this bottle back from Victoria, but it feels like I brought back something much bigger — the scent of the island itself.

Hands down the BEST thing I’ve had to drink in a very long time!! The Lady Grey tastes exactly like the tea itself, and the Crème Violette is somehow deliciously creamy without actually being… creamy. So, so good, I can’t wait to order and try more!!

I've seen their drinks being sold at various Farmers markets at Duncan and in Esquimalt. All I can say, is how awesome and tasty their products are. First, it's very unique, as they use a blend of herbs and/or teas, along with other ingredients to produce their drinks. My personal favourites are the Sweet tease and the Drink pink. At $29 per bottle, it's a reasonable price. Plus the lid has an eco-friendly seed pouch that you can plant in your own yard for flowers. That's a bonus! I have yet to visit their place, but I am already in love with their products. I give the Holocene Distillery Project 2 thumbs up!

Had the great pleasure of meeting Dorian (Owner) of Holocene which included an invited out to the distillery for a tour and tasting. This was by far one of the most enjoyable and informative experiences in some time. The entire vibe of Holocene Distilling Project is best described as a sophisticated relaxed earthy island experience. The tasting was made even more enjoyable with the added context and information that Dorian provided as to how each product was created. This is a Cowichan Valley must do! I am sure that you will go home with more than one bottle of Holocene fine spirts.

Excellent gin and liqueurs. After talking with one of the owners at a market, their passion for quality spirits made in a sustainable and waste free manner is evident. Will be purchasing again.

My favourite distillery! Their creative products, attention to detail, and sustainability initiatives are just a few things I love about them! Highly recommend the Honey I’m Home gin with lemonade. It was my summer go to!… And the Lady Grey with Whiskey! 💯 If I could give them more stars I would!! ⭐️x100
