Have wanted to try here for a long time and finally got the chance back in September. Service was excellent, we were asked if we had been before and when we said no our server happily talked us through the menu with recommendations. Was an excellent experience food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. This is definitely up there with one of my best meals out. I will definitely be returning once restrictions ease and I cannot wait!

Google
Excellent menu for both great food and drink options. Try one of their boxty main dishes for an excellent version of this traditional Irish dish. Better reserve ahead, seat are limited on the boat and the fold is epic!

If you want great meal that dosnt need any frills as the ingredients are so tasty and well prepaired then the barge should be top of your list. It also celiac friendly, the staff are very attentive and there is a good selection of wines and local beers. Its one of our top places to eat in Belfast and never disappoints.

Google
Wow, what a great wee find. Good value and beautiful dishes. The crispy prawn starter was delish. I had the venison which was amazing and generously portioned. Staff all friendly, attentive and welcoming.

Google
Lovely Boxties and one of the few places where you can get them. The menu isn't too big so you can only come here so often. But definitely worth going if you haven't been. Also having food on a boat on Lagan River is an experience in itself. Make sure to book ahead if you want a seat with a view!

Really great food. Had the Hake which was seasoned perfectly and was a huge portion. The prices are also very reasonable; we paid £40pp for a three course meal and wine. Good atmosphere on the river and the open windows allow for a good fresh breeze.

Lovely place and lovely food. Really recommend and of you haven't been yet, you have to... At least once.

Google
One of the best resturants in Belfast! Fully deserve their high rating. Staff know the menu back to front and were happy to recommend based on your preference.

Yelp
Holohans at the Barge is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with the delightful aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment alone. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to recommend a new blend or brewing method. And the coffee itself? Absolutely divine. Each cup is expertly crafted, bursting with flavor and the perfect balance of richness. Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or just looking for a great cup of joe, Holohans at the Barge is the place to be. Highly recommended!

Yelp
What a lovely hidden spot right next to the ICC convention center. We had a nice pot of afternoon tea, scones, and sausage roll. Dog friendly, nice owner, quiet and cozy. Recommended.

Yelp
This place is such a gem. This is actually a fine dining restaurant in disguised. The restaurant is actually on a boat, docked in the river. Based on the location and decor, one would not expect too much about the food. Our group of 4 ordered 4 different dishes, with mine being the pan fried Hake. Well let me tell you, all 4 dishes were licked clean by the end of the meal! That should tell you something about the taste. We were initially blown away by the presentation of our dishes. Again, we didn't expect such level of presentation that's typically seen at fine dining establishments, not a rusty boat in the middle of a small town. Once we tasted our food we were even more surprised as all 4 dishes were as delicious as they looked. This restaurant is a must try if you're in Belfast!

Yelp
Dining on a cozy boat permanently docked by the Barge is certainly a unique experience. The food doesn't disappoint either! I ordered the Pan Boxty with smoked cod and Glenarm salmon. It was so delicious I practically licked the plate. The pancake wrap is usually made of potato flour, Holohans use corn flour. It was lighter and I enjoyed the taste better than potato. Staff was super friendly. All of Ireland and Northern Ireland service is top notch. I don't ever recall a bad or mediocre experience. Highly recommended.

Yelp
It was a Bank Holiday at noon place was empty service was quick food the Hake was prepared perfectly It is an old barge in the river it is hard to see out and it's old in many ways If you're looking to down a pint or six it's probably OK the food was excellent and environment has a little to be desired

Yelp
Really enjoyed my first visit to Holohan's at the Barge. It's a relaxed, brightly lit restaurant with a philosophy of using local Northern Ireland produce to create dishes. My sister and I hit it lucky last night when we called in on the off chance of a table and managed to get one due to a cancellation. Though it's usually very busy so pre-booking is normally essential. I had a main of dumplings, mushrooms and vegetables in a cep cream sauce. It was beautiful, really flavoursome and delicious, my only criticism being that for £13 I would have liked more food on my plate. I literally could have eaten two portions, so I would recommend ordering a side with this dish. We shared an Irish cheese board for dessert with pickles, chutney and breads - whoops a big slip up with my Vegan November - but I'm back on track from today! All in all a lovely little restaurant with the added novelty factor of being located on a barge, plus excellent service and delicious food. I'll definitely return but only wish they had a couple more vegetarian options on their menu and slightly larger portion sizes, which in my opinion would move them up from a four star to a five star rating.

Yelp
This restaurant is perfectly situated right along the Lagan River with a great view of the surrounding area. Staff is very accommodating and attentive. We were quickly seated & drink orders taken. Food was absolutely fantastic. Flavors were rich, bold & complex. Drinks tasted fresh and perfectly blended. Definitely recommend this place. May want to call & make reservations if you plan on going on the weekend during peak hours.

Yelp
Holohan's is a restaurant which came to my attention in early 2016 when I made enquiries about where to get good boxty, after being unconvinced by my first boxty elsewhere. Holohan's was recommended to me. Naturally, my first visit was specifically for boxty and this was a proper potato pancake, unlike the potato patty that I had encountered elsewhere. It was a seafood boxty. I was back at The Barge on another occasion when I didn't have boxty but had some champ. The champ was rather dense and also rather low on scallions and so I don't think I would order it again. I would very happily have the boxty over and over again, though.

Yelp
Holohans was so welcoming after a full 24 hours of cars, planes and airports. Absolutely top food and drinks, fantastic service, and super cool location. They were able to accommodate us between seatings (we were sans reservation) on a Friday evening. Every other table was full of folks enjoying a lingering dinner and drinks, there was not a sour face in the joint. Thank you Holohans, you set the bar HIGH!

Yelp
First of all, the location is just beautiful. It would be the perfect spot for a date night. The decor is cozy and rustic. There are candles on the tables and twinkly lights hung above the windows. The restaurant was very accommodating for our large group. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about allergens. I'm gluten free and had no trouble finding all of the gluten free items on the menu. The lamb chops were divine, cooked and seasoned to perfection. The mash had the perfect texture and taste, buttery and salty and creamy. Worth the price, worth a trip.

Yelp
The most amazing meal and experience of our entire trip! Hey Gordon Ramsey - this is what a perfectly run restaurant looks like. Holohans is an intimate and warm little restaurant on a small boat on the river. We were so fortunate in that it was literally around the corner from the Hilton where we were staying and popped up on my Yelp search of the area. We had two different types of Boxty - the traditional pancake stuffed with seafood (that night's special) and the dumpling style boxty with kale and peas. Both were out of this world. The portions were huge and we almost licked the plates. They do not store food and so all of the ingredients were fresh. Do not leave without trying the Guinness sticky pudding - the best dessert I have ever had. Both servers were absolutely incredible and watching the kitchen work their magic was like nothing I have ever seen. We made reservations online which I highly recommend.

Yelp
Food was fantastic! Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Call for reservations or be early.

Yelp
Wonderful food. Friendly and attentive staff. Good prices and fun location what more could you want? We'd been looking forward to eating here since seeing reviews on other websites. We are only in Belfast for a couple days and ate here our first night. It did not disappoint. We started with goat cheese soufflé and it was great very light. I had the monkfish and my fiancé had their speciality the boxty with seafood chowder (almost like a potato crepe) and both were delicious. We drank beer, cider, whiskey, and ended with cappuccino and shared their chocolate peanut butter dessert. Given all that we thought it was not as expensive as we would have thought... Well worth it! The ambiance is fun - I mean eating on a barge is fun but is intimate as well. Don't miss this place!

Yelp
Shoot me now...this place is amazing. Looks like a hole in the wall but do not let that stop you. It is on a boat and the interior is fantastic. Make this place a most stop on your culinary tour, you will not be disappointed. All other restaurants will be compared to this one for the rest our time in Belfast.

Maureen S.

Yelp
For my first dinner in Belfast, the boxty special did not disappoint. Chicken, bacon, mushrooms, leeks, how can any of that be wrong. The pancake was thin and crisp on the edges and the filling was rich and creamy. Definitely will be back!

Karen M.

Yelp
Dining on a boat on the Lagan, whats not to love? The barge is permanently docked of course! This restaurant opened about a year or so ago and is one of the top reviewed in Belfast - a must have for locals and visitors. Traditional Irish Food, Lunch & Dinner Menu,Licensed Premises, Restaurant On The Barge, Excellent Atmosphere & Staff The food is Irish bistro, the staff all seem to be one big happy family and the surroundings are quite romantic. it is a small space (being a barge and all that) so they are limited in numbers - call ahead to book to avoid disappointment.

Yelp
Dinner for 3. No reservations and they found us a table. Appetizer 1 scallops and 2 seafood chowder. Both fantastic. Couldn't believe the amount of salmon in the chowder. Dinner 1 sea bass and 2 steaks. Fantastic again. Large portions of great food. Dessert 2 ice cream sundaes. Saw one of the toppings was honeycomb and had to try it. Was unbelievably good. Wanted more. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Loved every bite

Yelp
Wonderful food and service!!!! Great wine list! If you're in Belfast around Christmas time definitely check out their proper Christmas dinner. Eating on a barge is fun!

Caroline S.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant a couple of times, once with a large Hen Party of friends over from England and they all thought the food amazing. Staff were lovely and very tolerant of such noisy crowd! More recently I visited with my sister who enjoyed it also. They could offer more vegetarian options, but apart from this, Holohans at the Barge serve gorgeous food. The one vegetarian option I tried was delicious, plus the wine was good too. Atmosphere is laid back and relaxed. I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp

Yelp
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Belfast. Food is always outstanding. Service is great. Venue is great. I really enjoy it!

Yelp
We had an excellent dinner last night at The Barge. The friendly staff managed to serve our 24 people group on time and exceeded our expectations. Excellent service. Food was really good, everyone was very pleased. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Belfast.

Yelp
A unique experience, dining on a boat in the channel. The onion soup with garlic and thyme was unusual but very good. Served with excellent bread, herbed butter and parmesan crisp. The "boxty" a local dish made of potato pancake filled with haddock and cream sauce was also excellent. Served with a mixture of green vegetables, perfectly cooked al dente. The local beer, Sailor Town, was a great match. Overall a great experience.

Steve R.

Yelp
Very good meal. I started with the crispy egg and ham hock appetizer and it was great. Tried the boxty, first time I've had the fish and was very good also. I recommend.
