Yelp
Not worth the money!
Spent a few nights at this Bed and Breakfast (B&B) on our first trip to the Big Island. The B&B itself is pretty nice and the acreage around the place is pretty. It's higher on a hill so you get a good view of Kona and the ocean.
However, there are a number of drawbacks to this place. First, there is NO air conditioning. For being in the tropics with crazy high humidity...get some A/C! It was so hot in our room that we couldn't sleep. For $500/nt, they can afford to have A/C installed!
Second, the "breakfast" in the morning was NOT a breakfast. They first give you a plate of (overripe) fruit and then a small dish of whatever they are having for "breakfast." There is no menu, no options to have a different meal, no variety, no customization, nothing! They just bring you out whatever they feel like cooking and serve it to you. Being a "Bed & Breakfast" kind of implies that there will be a real breakfast in the morning. It's kind of in the name! Again, for $500/night, I think they could at least offer you a real breakfast and have some options on a menu! Eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, potatoes, pastries, pancakes....just some crazy ideas off the top of my head! And even if you like the food they are serving you, don't expect to be full when you are finished. The portion sizes are so small that you'll still be hungry when you are done. We went to a restaurant after our "breakfast" at the B&B in order to get some real food and actually fill up.
In reading the reviews for this B&B, I don't understand how everyone raves about the breakfast. Almost every single person staying at the Inn who had breakfast with us did not eat the meal. They left the majority of the food on the plate and walked away...so I know we weren't the only ones disappointed with the "breakfasts."
Third, sound travels throughout the house pretty easily. We had a room on the bottom floor and could hear every movement and every word of the people staying above us.
On the plus side, they did have a washer and dryer for us to use...although it didn't clean our clothes very well. There was beach equipment to use such as snorkels, fins, chairs and umbrellas. About half the staff was rude and half was friendly (or at least faked it better than the other half).
In short, this place is EXTREMELY overpriced and not worth the money. I wouldn't mind the price so much if you got what you paid for...but you don't. You're better off staying down in Kona at a resort or some other place for a lot less money and more amenities.
