The Agia Dynami (Holy Power) church was built in the 16th century.
The name Agia Dynami refers to the Virgin Mary and was given to the church because all pregnant Athenian women in order to give birth to strong children. For this reason the church’s celebration takes place of September 9th, day of the birth of Virgin Mary.
Archaeological finds suggest an altar dedicated to Hercules was once situated here.
The church sits above a web of underground tunnels once used to smuggle weapons from a nearby arms maker during the Greek War of Independence.
