A wonderful 13th century Byzantine temple, built in the most prominent era of the Despotate of Epirus. It was the center of a monastic community, much of the entirety of which remains to this day.
It was built by Nicephoros Angelos Komnenos Doukas and his wife Anna Paleologos upon the remains of a previous church, parts of which were incorporated within the new one.
Some of the original 13th century mosaics still survive. The frescoes are from various periods, beginning from the 15th century. Easy and worth visiting if one chances to be around.
