It's been a year since I was able to review their other location on Gurney Street. This is good Tex-Mex-ish style Mexican food. Great atmosphere, responsive staff, and good drinks. It all combines into one of the better Mexican-style experiences you can have in Asia! Cash, credit card & e-wallet payments accepted.
Come earlier in the evening or late afternoon if you want a relatively quiet experience. Lunch time and after 10pm the place is packed. Lots of ex-pats but a locals as well. It has undoubtedly a well-deserved reputation as a place to have fun, and you should here.
Chips & salsa are a must to start any Mexican meal. Not free, tragically, but that's the way it goes in Asia. Chips are crisp and salted perfectly. Salsa is inoffensive. No spice, very little cilantro, and mostly just a slightly sweet roasted tomato taste, which you could do far worse with. If you want to spend a little extra order a side of guacamole. Very respectable and I appreciate the chunks of tomato and onion in it.
I opted for a burrito this time and paid a small surcharge to "chimichanga" it. I don't often hear *chimichanga* used as a verb so I went ahead with it. Basically a lightly fried burrito. Very tasty. I opted for the beef and there was a good amount of seasoned, shredded beef inside - along with rice, beans, and lettuce. Served dry and stand-alone.
The tacos are a hallmark here and are good.
Finally, I went for a paloma and was not disappointed. This is a more authentic Mexican cocktail than the margarita - it just didn't benefit from good marketing the way margaritas have. Served in a skull mug, rimmed with chili salt (not too spicy, don't worry) and garnished with an orange wedge (grapefruit are not very common in Asia). Well-balanced and a great partner to any meal option.
Staff is friendly and you can buy their t-shirts as a souvenir. Definitely recommended if you're looking for South-of-the-border fun in Malaysia.
