Holy Monastery of Rousanos - Saint Barbara

Amazing. Meteora is world famous for its six Eastern Orthodox monasteries that are perched atop gigantic rock pillars in the mountains …. certainly a “must see”. All have been around for some hundreds of years; and it is incredible to imagine that they were built so long ago. Thirdly, we visited the Holy Monastery of Rousanos. It was beautiful. So calm and peaceful although it can be quite crowded at times. There is a very strict dress code to enter (we came prepared) and some of the monasteries are REALLY hard work to get to. Lots of steps; Lots of rests; Lots of sweat … but we made it.

Roussanou Monastery is absolutely stunning – perched dramatically on a narrow rock pillar, it looks like something out of a fairytale. The climb up is relatively easy and rewards you with breathtaking views of the surrounding monasteries and the valley below. Inside, the frescoes are beautiful and the atmosphere is calm and deeply spiritual. The nuns who care for the monastery are kind and welcoming, adding to the peaceful experience. A true gem of Meteora – elegant, serene, and unforgettable.

A small and wonderful monastery. Just as Agios Stefanos, the other nunnery, it is understandably somewhat stricter on the behavioral code of conduct for visitors. Also practically a fortress just as much as a place of worship, it was originally accessible via a retractable rope and wood stairway thrown through a small opening defended by narrow openings. Today it is accessible by a comfortable bridge found at the end of a less tiring ascent. Perhaps the best choice for someone who has very little time and wants to make the best of it.

One of the six monastery such amazing . Very nice place to pray , you feel fortitude , unbelievable buildings. From this Monastery there is forest road to view point.

Getting to this monastery was relatively easy. Even though it is one of the smaller monasteries, it has beautiful views and gardens. Worthwhile visiting.

Very nice Nunnery, small but brautiful. Plenty of Byzantine style icons and paintings. Beautiful landscape view. Approx 170 stairs to climb, not too bad... also, a path through the wood to an observation point above the Nunnery (can be reached by car also, but by climbing it gets an extra value, no?) Unfortunately, no photografing is allowed in the place....

Sitting at 484 meters high it’s one of the easiest access monasteries. It’s also one of the smallest and a nunnery but it’s perhaps the most photographed monastery because it has the most beautiful sunset backdrop before dusk

It has great view! Small and cute monastery compare to others. But you can enjoy the view of Varlaam and the great Monas from here. You can see the view and take pictures before you enter the ticket booth. I recommend to pass entering as it is too expensive even we entered.
