Beautiful old church with a small cemetery around it. Definitely worth popping into and ringing the bell for peace if you get the chance!

I love this church and visit whenever I go to York. The atmosphere is incredible. As soon as you enter you are transported back centuries. It sends tingles up your spine! You can just imagine people from eras ago sitting in the old wooden pew boxes listening to the sermons. The floors are stone and uneven. The enclosed wooden pews are so old - I really must find out how old! No lighting!!! The candles sconces are still there! Beautiful stain glass windows. Which pew did Anne Lister sit in?? It is small and it is dark and it is higgeldy piggeldy and it is hidden in a little court yard off Goodramgate but it is so authentic! Fabulous Doesn't open Monday or Tuesday (check website) and, as it is run by volunteers, this will depend on them being available. By the way, the volunteers are fabulous! So approachable, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. A delight to talk to. It is free to enter but all donations are gratefully accepted.

Visited as part of York Unlocked weekend. Medieval church steeped in history. Lots of original features to see including original box pews, curious columns and a mysterious carved head. Volunteers were on hand to answer any questions. I can't thank the old chap enough for trying to explain the weird carved head plus pointing out possible reused Roman blocks from the Roman Legionary Fortress.

A hidden gem of York city centre. Like stepping back in time. Beautiful gardens surrounding the church to see too.

The church is worth seeing, especially since it is free and in a very nice placed. You can enter, relax and explore. It is not big, but there is a lot of information about it inside, everything has been originally preserved - for me a nice addition to the attraction.

Beautiful church! Quite hidden and only open at certain times but not one to miss! It has an interior which dates back to around the 14th century so definitely worth a look. Volunteers keep it open and I spoke to one volunteer who was very eager to answer any questions I had.

A very lovely little church - one of the most touching I have ever seen. The interior is fantastic. It is like you enter a place of several decades ago. There is also a bench made of wood with carvings going back to the vikings. The people there are very friendly and even lit the candles for me during my visit to take more athmospherical pictures. I can really recommend the place. It belongs to my best memories of York.

One of my favourite places to visit in York, hidden away behind the adjacent buildings in a secluded plot with a number of benches to enjoy the peace & quiet. The interior has remained untouched with family pews, with doors & high panels all around, which families paid for the privilege of 'owning'. The volunteers are lovely & always happy to answer questions. Worth a visit to escape the tourist madness of the surrounding streets.
