We were looking for a place near the Delta Marriott hotel and found Homa Mediterranean easily within 3 to 5 minutes walking distance. It's a family run restaurant with great service. We ordered the chicken and beef kebab plate to split since we arrived to Vancouver a little later than our usual dinner time. My wife and I had a hard time choosing between the chicken and beef which one was better. They were both so good. We got the white rice, and there was complimentary hot tea which really hit the spot. Highly recommend.

Google
It’s a very nice family-owned business. The food was great, friendly service, and cute decor. I highly recommend the kebab-it was absolutely delicious! 10/10."

I recently tried Persian kebabs and Knafeh was extremely impressed. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the quality of the food was outstanding. Highly recommend giving this place a try if you’re a fan of Persian cuisine!

Homa Restaurant offers some of the best kebabs I've ever tasted, and the friendly staff truly elevate the experience. Their attentiveness and warm service make you feel right at home. I highly recommend Homa for anyone looking to enjoy delicious food in a welcoming atmosphere!

Google
Food is great! For a long time I've been missing the savory of persian ground beef kebob. Here I got to taste some that taste just like what I used to have back in Iran. Also tried lamb doner rap which was amazing. Also got to taste some chicken shawarma and it was the first time I got to eat such a juicy shawarma. The staff was nice. I hope they get even better in quality of the food they offer. Also, if you got there try some spicy rice. That tasted great!

I had a really great experience because the staff was really kind and the food was also delicious! Highly reccomend! There is also 10% off for students

Homa took over the space of the Baghdad cafe, and though I liked the latter, I must say the food, and the atmosphere are superior now. The menu has been revised to include more Persian food, and is the better for it - less repetition, and more diverse fare, while still retaining the core middle eastern classics. They taken down the oversize TVs and now play more classical and jazz as opposed to music videos, which is a nice change. The space is limited, but they've simplified it and updated the chairs and tables, so it has a little less of a fast food vibe (though it's not fancy). Staff are warm and friendly. Really am liking this place.

I recently dined at Homa Restaurant and had a delightful experience. The food was exceptional, with each dish bursting with flavor and perfectly prepared. The warm hospitality and attentive service made me feel right at home. The ambiance, featuring beautiful Iranian décor, added to the overall charm. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Persian cuisine in a welcoming setting!

Yelp
We love this place! I got the gheymeh and rice and my husband got a koobideh wrap...delicious! The koobideh was juicy, fresh and flavorful and the toppings and bread were very delicious as well. The gheymeh was the best I've had outside of my Iranian mom's kitchen! The flavors were perfectly balanced and scrumptious and the ingredients were vibrant and fresh. The proprietor was extremely warm and hospitable and provided incredible service. We will definitely be going back to Homa anytime we're in Vancouver!

Yelp
Located in Downtown Vancouver, I came here for lunch. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Platter. You can choose spicy rice or yellow rice, choice of salad and choice of sauce. I got the yellow rice, beet salad and garlic sauce. They also give you two pieces of naan bread. The food was very tasty. The portions were very generous so it was a good value.

Rosanna P.

Yelp
If you only have one hour for lunch, please do not eat here. It takes them 20 minutes to prepare a kebob or chicken leg. They tell you to sit down & you may end up waiting long. There are so many women behind the counter running around, not sure of what to do. Seemed like one of them was supposed to be in the kitchen but she hovers over the others. There is only one serving spoon for the chicken so only one server can get it at a time. The chicken leg was overcooked but the sauce was good. The salads are ok but they give little. They give a lot of rice. I had to raise my voice b/c I could not understand the server & I had already told her everything she asked the first time she took my order. Confusion & disorganized. Kebob was dry, no sauce put

Naomi T.

Yelp
My coworker took me to try Baghdad Cafe for lunch. I had the chicken wrap which was filled with fresh veggies, sauces and chicken. There was also some pink pickled turnip in it which was interesting. Service was very friendly. They have some seating at the back if you want to dine in. Pretty good value for a quick lunch!

Yelp
This is a gem! Delicious food served by people who really care about your experience. I had one of the best gyros I've ever had, with so many interesting Middle Eastern fillings. My wife had the lamb shank, which was delicious. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great downtown kebab shop, very tasty and fresh ingredients and friendly staff. The area's got a bit of urban grit vibe, so it's not a too choice for a fancy dinner, but for a delicious and affordable meal when you're in the area, yes please!

Anthony S.

Yelp
As far as a falafel goes, for $12 I HIGHLY recommend going to Superbaba if you looking for value and quality. That being said the place was clean and people extreme friendly, here's to hoping it ls a better option for meat eaters.

sizit w.

Yelp
small place but GOOD service, DELICIOUS Persian food, and COMFY music. the lamb is yum yum and they even gave me extra food, thanks pretty!

Jimmy J.

Yelp
great service, food was tasty, reasonable price for my chicken swarma plate. outside was cold and rainy but inside is warm, quiet and enjoyable. the service was excellent.

John G.

Yelp
We tried four places in the area and this is the first one that uses real beef meat (not ground beef) for the beef shawarma. That's a plus in my book. We liked the food and they were also flexible to accommodate for keto with a cucumber salad instead of the rice.

Denise W.

Yelp
Colleague googled and found this place. I quickly went on Yelp and realized that this place has 4 stars rating. WOW. Hmm.... So, my colleagues and I came here for lunch. I ordered the chicken sharwarma. To my surprise, it was very delicious for $10. For the platters: there are 3 different kinds of rice (spicy, vegetables and yellow) to choose from and 5 different kinds of salads. Also 3 different kinds of sauce. I got garlic and humus. I like humus and it was awesome that they make it in-house. This place is quite small and there are limited seats. Most people just grab and go. For the price I paid, I am definitely coming back for lunch. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Amanda L.

Yelp
This place was closed when I drove by on a Wednesday at 7pm. Hours need to be updated.

S. K.

Yelp
The food itself is decent. The rice with species are pretty good. I liked lamb chunk, plate 20. My friends love plate 24, especially chicken. I felt that it was too much vinegar in it. Beef was decent, but a bit overcooked. Customer service is very nice and have sense of humor. They also offer complementary tea with cardamom, I would recommend to try it. I really like it. Overall reasonable price, great location and good food.

Mohd Firdaus B.

Yelp
The food is great and its value for your money. One of my favorite's restaurant in Vancouver.

Michael L.

Yelp
Looking for a shawarma place closer to my work and found this place on Yelp. There is plenty of seating at the rear of the restaurant and the menu is on display behind the food counter. I opted for the chicken shawarma. I liked that they have some different item options, as turnips, than my go to shawarma/donair establishment. And while I did find it tasty, I also found it too salty. It was good value at $9.20 (tax in) and I can see its popularity given it is right across the street from the BCIT downtown campus. While it was a positive food experience, It is challenging to recommend the Bagdad Cafe when comparing to my go to shawarma/donair establishment in terms of product, value and taste.

Ayan D.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Very filling plates which come with complementary Iraqi tea which you can pour yourself. I would highly recommend the kabab - it was particular delicious but takes a bit longer to prepare since it's made fresh. This place has plenty of seating but is designed to be more of a take out place. Simple decor. Would come back.

Yelp
Hands down my absolute favourite Middle Eastern restaurant in the city! I've been going here almost weekly since I started working downtown. They do shawarma style meats and also kebabs. Portions are large for what you pay for and the service is always super friendly! They remember your face and order after a few visits which is always nice. Here are my tips accumulated from being a long time regular! + Go for the veggie rice option if it's available. Must try!! They run out around 2PM on weekdays and don't serve it on the weekends so make sure to go early. + If you're not a huge fan of rice and want more salad you can ask for a half salad/half rice option to get a bit more salad and a little less rice. + The beef is good if you're wanting more flavour, chicken if you're into a juicier meat. Beef runs out around 2PM as well. + You can mix your salads and sauces, my personal favourite is beet salad, would recommend you include that for sure and I like the garlic and hummus. + They make the falafel and kebabs fresh so the wait is a little longer for that if you have time. In a big lung rush, the chicken or lamb kabsa would be fastest options. + If you go late on a Saturday you'll usually get extra meat with your meal because they close on Sunday so don't keep the Shawarma! + They get very busy starting right at 11:30AM and the sweet spot is 11:15-11:30 so you can get the meat when it's freshest but not wait. That said, max wait for a shawarma is 10 minutes, don't be intimated by the lines, they are really efficient.

Yelp
The weekly work lunches continue with Baby J. We decided to check out a Middle Eastern spot called Baghdad Cafe. The place was crazy busy during the lunch rush. On a Tuesday, there was a line up all the way to the back by the tables. People are totally right; the line up is strangely set up but that's just something you'll have to deal with if you want to eat here. It's because the inside is long and narrow. The menu has appetizers, manakiesh, platters, wraps, breakfast and desserts. The baklava looked tasty. There's also some complimentary Iraqi tea. You might have to ask for cups like we did but the tea is right by the drink fridge. - Chicken shawarma (#16) ($9.99) - a platter gets you choice of rice, salad and sauces. Baby J opted for yellow rice, Baghdad salad and half hummus/half labneh. Baghdad salad was pretty boring; surprised they don't offer fattoush. Yellow rice was good but the star was the chicken shawarma. Flavourful, tender and moist. - Shawarma arabi (#18) ($10.50) - I opted for the spicy rice, tabouli salad and half hummus/half labneh. Tabouli salad was forgettable and dry. The spicy rice wasn't very spicy at all but the arabi was tasty. Like how they grill the pita after it's been wrapped up. Come early or after the lunch rush. The food is fast, cheap and filling. 3.5 stars.

Kelly K.

Yelp
A great bite via my uber eats app for dinner. The beef kebab, beet salad and rice were very tasty but the falafels could have been better flavoured and more moist.

Meghna G.

Yelp
The food was so amazing I almost ate here twice! It was a cold snowy day and we walked 15 minutes to this place. Totally worth it. I ordered the falafel over vegetable rice. The rice was so good and reminded me of the pulav my mom makes back in India. The falafels were crispy and melt-in-the-mouth. My husband tried the lamb over rice and he loved it. It was served in a tomato-okra gravy which I really liked. I am almost disappointed I could not go back here during my short trip, but I will definitely stop by when I am in Vancouver again.

Jane M.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner and loved the chicken wrap and the delicious fries.. hummus was nice not outstanding also we had to ask for the pita bread and the server did bring it to us.. overall really liked the food here.. was too stuffed to try the baklava or any other dessert on the menu..

Ikumi S.

Yelp
This restaurant is so nice! Tastes are so good. And staff are kind and friendly (especially Ma'am). I'm gonna go there again!!

Jeremiah S.

Yelp
This place is awesome! For sure coming back. My theory on specific cuisine for restaurants, eg if I go to an asian restaurant and it's filled with asians, you knows it's gonna be good food. walked in, middle eastern looking ppl everywhere...based on that theory, All signs pointed towards good food. Came on a Tuesday for lunch, place was packed, decent line. There was a lady taking orders down the line, organised chaos. Love it! Ordered the beef shawarma. Comes with a choice of salad, spicy, yellow or plain rice, and choice of sauce. SO GOOD!!! SO TASTY! The white sauce is incredible. Beef looked like it was going to be average...wrong. Very tasty/satisfying plate of food. Looking forward to working my way down the menu. Don't expect amazing restaurant service...it ain't that kinda place. Order, get your food, sit down, eat and be dam satisfied.

Meghan O.

Yelp
Yummy, friendly, and they are accommodating to figure out how to make you a perfect plate. This time I had the chicken salad, with a beef kebab on the side, accompanied by a tart yogurt drink.

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Good food and fast because its pre made. We wanted to eat the beef but it was sold out, which tells you that it's good! So here is what we ordered. One was spiced rice and one was yellow. Both was delicious id come back for sure.

Mel L.

Yelp
Baghdad cafe is a narrow place and feels a bit crowded but it has a very cozy feel to it. The lady serving us was very friendly and she even suggested that we can pay after eating if we wanted to. Most importantly, the food was good in general. I ordered a chicken shawarma platter which consisted of saffron rice, chicken, hummus, yoghurt, some picked veggies and a slice of pita bread. The portion was very generous and we were also served black tea in those cute little glass cups. However, one thing that I didn't appreciate was the fact that the lady serving us did not ask me if I wanted olive oil drizzled on my hummus and yoghurt. I'm assuming that this is the key to making the dish less dry but it seemed a little bit unappealing to see oil floating on my sauce. Other than that, the chicken was well cooked and the saffron flavour from the rice just came altogether. If you're looking for something very filling at an affordable price in downtown, this is your place to be!

Steven L.

Yelp
[Shawarma Satisfaction] As far as workday lunches go, this place takes the cake - quality, quantity, value, and convenience. It's sort of a half-service restaurant (think Nandos) with enough self-serve seating for 20-25 people. My go-to selection is the Chicken Shawarma Plate (#16). You get a generous portion of chicken on a large bed of rice (go with spicy) with a side salad (3 options) and pita bread. Portion sizes are sufficient enough even for the largest of appetites. You can even add extra meat for $3 if you're really famished. It's arguably the most delicious of all middle eastern places in downtown. Do keep in mind that this isn't a fine-dining establishment - more like a no-nonsense stop when you need a salivation-worthy meal in a short amount of time. At $10, it also won't break the bank. Just keep in mind that lunchtimes can get busy AF and prepare for an epic food coma.

Dylan T.

Yelp
While staying at a hotel and attending a conference nearby, we found this little place. Service is a little slow, but that's because they carve the kebab fresh. The chicken shawarma salad was awesome. You get to mix and match between the tabbouleh, beet salad, and chickpea salad. The large is a pretty decent size portion. There could've been a little more flavor in the meat seasoning, but they ask you how much oil, lemon juice, white sauce, and hot sauce you want. Two large salads and a side of hummus ran us about $24US including tip.

Sandy K.

Yelp
My goodness. Saw the reviews and tried this place. Worst falafel ever. It was gross. Worst spicy rice ever. It as tasteless. I couldn't eat more than few bites...left hungry.

Michelle W.

Yelp
One of the best quick and affordable lunches in downtown. I absolutely love this place. It is run by great people the food is amazing. I normally get the chicken and beef sharwama plate and it definitely feeds me two meals. Make sure to get the spicy rice, it is full of flavors and compliments the meat. I also enjoy the beet and tabuleh salad. There's actually nothing I wouldn't get because it is that good. I am a little confused on how they run the line. There can definitely be improvements.

Doug G.

Yelp
First time dining here based on Yelp reviewers. Road 2km from Denman on our bikes and were pleasantly pleased. Place is not very big. From the outside we were not sure if they even had seating. Inside was sufficient for casual diners. The owner offered to let us keep our bikes inside for safety, which I was thought was pretty cool of him. Meals are served quickly so turnover is short. There is a good selection of meals. However, It was late Saturday and the food selection was quite limited. That's how busy this is. Good sign. Gladly there signature dishes were availabile. Kufta (beef and chicken) rice and salad. Honestly, what more do you need. We had one of each. One with Greek salad and the other with beet salad. Both delicious and ravinously devoured. After, we chased down meal with a nice hot Chai. Had the Kunafah for dessert to finish. It was pretty much just a melted chunk of cheese, not the best cap off to the meal. Given it was the last piece, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Overall would definitely come again.

Yousif N.

Yelp
The best middle eastern eastern restaurant been to food amazing the cleanness is awesome and the employee where amazing the man and the women were working very hard must try again

Sam L.

Yelp
The food is great, but the wraps are minuscule for $10 after tip. I like the wraps for ease of eating at my desk or sitting outside in warmer weather, but for only a couple dollars more for the plate you get twice as much food if not more, literally. There's a long lineup if you go around lunch time, but it moves quite quickly, then you can sit in the seating area in the rear or take your food to go. I'll likely be back because it's tasty and quick but I wish they'd pack more stuff in the wraps.

Cyrus I.

Yelp
Nice little restaurant in downtown Vancouver which gets very busy during weekday lunch hour rush. Better to come after 1.30 PM if possible as crowds thin out. Tried the swarma albibi which was spicy rice, salad, hummus, taziki and chicken wrap. A lot of food for $10 and decent quality. I didn't like the chicken wrap since it was very plain. This dish is almost similar to a swarma wrap but with salad & dressing on the side. I just unwrapped the wrap and mixed the chicken with the rice and salad and it was amazing. Also for those conscious about their weight this might not be a good dish option due to high carbs - rice and bread. On the whole a very nice restaurant for lunch on weekdays very different from other food options around. Will def be coming there again soon. P.S. this restaurant is halal for those who can only eat halal meat.

Suzanne C.

Yelp
Chicken shawarma and tabbouleh salad is my go too! Friendly owners make all guests feel welcome.

Kar L.

Yelp
This was officially the worst meal I had during my stay in Vancouver. Besides that the personnel couldn't handle a little amount of people. It's a disgrace they use terms as "kebab" and "shawarma" cause the only thing I could taste was old meat and a little of that white sauce. O, I did taste the cucumbers though. The one star is only for the fries that I could taste as well. But hey, how can you mess up fries that you only have to defrost, right? Maybe I'm used to quality food, but my tongue isn't dead you know!

Justin H.

Yelp
The chicken was very flavorful on the mixed Kebab plate. The main course of Kebab and Falafel were made fresh which get Baghdad Cafe to the next level. Authentic drink and sides to accompany your meal. The guys running the shop were super friendly. Flavors on the side dishes were heavy on flowery spices. Some of it was a bit bitter for my liking. The baklava was also a bit too dry, but overall a good experience. Good place to get your middle eastern cuisine fix. Kind of a narrow hole in the wall in the middle of downtown.

Rosemarie T.

Yelp
Delicious shawarma! I came here with my boyfriend as I told him I've never had shawarma before and he recommended me this place. Of the beef and chicken, I enjoyed the chicken most. It was nice and crispy plus enormous portions for the price. I couldn't finish it by myself. Definitely a place to get good shawarma.

Cyan F.

Yelp
Very nice family restaurant ~~good prize good food The chinken shawarma is my favorite

C. D.

Yelp
Well, unfortunately I need to update my earlier review. The quality and freshness has gone seriously downhill. Veggies are soggy and gross looking, everything looks a couple days old, way smaller portions of meat, which isn't as tasty, generally unappetizing. It's a shame because this place used to be so good.

Amar A.

Yelp
5 stars all the time , I ask for okra special Iraqi stew and the chef Rudy make it perfect thanks Baghdag Caffee

Sej R.

Yelp
Pros: Clean place with friendly staff and delicious, large portions of food. Things to try: Get the chicken shawarma plate with spicy rice, all three kinds of sauce is good and tabouleh salad FYI: The chicken teka is made to order, so it does take little longer than other dishes.

Chad G.

Yelp
Firstly, I am no expert when it comes to middle Eastern cuisine, but I did enjoy very much the beef shawarma. The meat was succulent, which went very well with the choice of rice, I picked veggie rice. The salad options were very good as well, and the hummus!! Quite good I must say. My better half ordered the kapsa lamb. She also recommends it!

Stella O.

Yelp
I ordered take out from here. To my surprise, they ran out of chicken! I really wanted a chicken shwarma that day, but they said I could only get the falafel or teka (did I spell that right?). As I had to catch a bus home right after, I stayed put and just opted for the falafel. Luckily the falafel tasted just right; it was a fabulous alternative. At the cash register, he apologized for the lack of meat, saying that they were awfully busy early on. I guess it had something to do with the end of Ramadan. Quite out of random, he thanked me in French and asked if I spoke French. Perhaps you might be able to order in French here too.

Arjun B.

Yelp
One the best places in the neighborhood if you like Middle Eastern food. QUANTITY: 10/10: I think for the price point, the quantity is amazing. Just check out some of the pictures and you can see that they overload your plate and it's not only with rice but there is a solid chunk of meat in there. For the price-quantity ratio, one of the best places around. PRICE: I usually get the Chicken Shawrma plate and with taxes included it's less than $10, which is hard to find anywhere downtown. If you get the chicken salad, its even cheaper! QUALITY: 8/10: You gotta remember that this is not a high-end place, this is a quick stop over for a meal, essentially fast food but the quality you get for the money that you paid for is great! I think they get so busy that meat doesn't have the time to get crispy. SERVICE: The service is standard, in the sense that its pretty disorganized behind the counter in my personal opinion. I think the management could do a better job in creating a system but it's just chaos in the sense, someone behind you in the line can get their food order before you, easily! Overall 10/10 place! Would recommend!

Mohammed B.

Yelp
I loved the food in this place. It is a real authentic Arabic food. For a tourist away from home, this restaurant surely felt like home. I hate to compare it to the other so called "Arabic Food" in Canada. Thank you for the whole experience. You made my day....

Eric A.

Yelp
Very meh and frustrating. I just waited 20+ minutes for a shawarma plate at this restaurant. It wasn't even that busy, just very disorganized service. You order, someone dishes out your rice and salad, then they start serving the person after you while you wait for the next person behind the counter who is also operating the cash to dish out the chicken. It took over 15 minutes from when my rice was dished to when my chicken was plated. The lady dishing out the rice also leans over everyone's plate to access the salads and her shirt dipped into multiple peoples lunches... pretty gross. Then there was another issue with paying. Patrons who were eating in the restaurant budded the line to pay so that was another 5 minute wait. The food was ok. The rice was crunchy and obviously old and the chicken was pretty bland. The salad was decent and hummus was good. It should never take 20 minutes to get a shawarma, especially when it isn't super busy. This restaurant needs to get their organization skills together and have a system, rather than a scattered mess. I will never return as the food isn't worth the headache and the questionable hygiene.

Ahmed B.

Yelp
Great authentic food! This place is pretty much what you would expect in a fast food place in Iraq. Love it!

Sumedha N.

Yelp
This place has become a favorite in a very short time. Excellent food, the portions are great! I love everything here - the chicken shawarma, the falafel , the tea and the baklava. Excellent place to grab a quick lunch.
