On the Grid : HOMAGE

"So cool they wouldn’t let us shoot it. HOMAGE, known for it’s vintage-inspired sports memorabilia, is a Columbus favorite. The shirts are soft, the designs are retro and cool, and the environment is awesome. While hunting for your favorite teams, feel free to play some NBA JAM or enjoy a complimentary bottle of Coca-Cola." - Fort

We read about this place in the Dispatch prior to coming to town. It was adorable and felt like a basement bar. The lobby of the Graduate was also welcoming. Upon ordering a drink, we were told to wait for the bartender. We began playing NBA Jam. When he came in he asked us for our order. There was absolutely no small talk and his demeanor made me so uncomfortable I had to strategize how and when to ask for the bill so we could get out. It was a terrible experience. Save your time and go down the street to a bar that wants you there.

After a concert, we were walking up and down High St. looking for a little quieter, laid-back bar. We stopped in to the Homage Bar, and we loved it! Jen behind the bar was fantastic! We'll stop in for a drink anytime we're in Columbus.

Got 2 out of 3 drink orders wrong—how do you mess up a beer and a shot? To make matters worse, it was a Saturday during March Madness, yet the TV above the ‘kitchen’ wasn’t even showing basketball. When we politely asked them to switch it to the games, we were told they couldn’t have basketball on both TVs at the same time. Seriously? What kind of sports bar refuses to show one of the biggest sporting events of the year on all available screens? Disappointing experience all around.

Fun vintage vibes and awesome, helpful staff! Would be a fun spot to catch a Buckeyes game. Light bites and drinks. The BLT was delicious.

Service and ordering food felt a little odd. Atmosphere and decor is awesome, I’d probably just walk an out of town visitor through here to see it but not stay and order anything again.

My husband and I were staying downtown for the weekend. Went into Homepage Bar because the bar stools caught my eye from the street. Really glad we went in. Tyler was AWESOME, the vibe is cozy, the booze is great.

Just a weird mediocre experience over all. The first thing that hit us when we walked in the door was the smell out of the kitchen of something that clearly had been burned in the fryer. Smoke everywhere. Only one poor bartender trying to cover the whole thing on holiday hop weekend. Ordered the old fashioned- Extremely watery as if they cut the thing with soda water. Couldn't finish it.

I've only been here on the weekends. The bar itself isn't necessarily outstanding, but 3 things stand out. They an above average Old Fashioned and a music playlist for lovers of 80's/90's rock. But what I want to call out one of my favorite servers, Jen. She makes an above average hotel bar into a really fun local oasis for a night cap. I recommend trying it first when Jen is working. 👍🏻

Yelp
The retro, no frills Homage brand is evident the moment you walk into the bar. The NBA Jam arcade game is a great touch, and the place is a non-dingy dive bar... which is a compliment. On the second Wednesday of each month, they have old school wrestling night where they play 90s wrestling on their two TVs and have drink and food discounts. On special that night was the Macho's Choice cocktail for $10 which reads like an absolute wreck but is actually very tasty (and strong). Would I be thrilled to pay the regular price for their cocktails? That's a story for another day, but the day that I went was a good day.

Yelp
Fantastic cocktails, cool vibe they had The Simpsons on the tv and vintage everything. I felt like I was back in a friend's game-room from the 90's.

Yelp
If you're in a hurry at all don't go here. I waited in line for 10 minutes and all I wanted was a cup of coffee, but she was too busy putting together people's orders. I get it. It's not her fault. They are severely understaffed, but 10 minutes for a simple cup of coffee and never even got service. They lost at least five customers in that timeframe because nobody wanted to wait.

Yelp
It is a hotel bar and it brings nothing special to the table. The bar smelled of burnt food from their makeshift cooking area which when we inquired about the food, we were told all of the food is fryer food and the fryer is down. They had a turbo oven and a panini press on full blast so that was odd to hear they only have fryer food. The two TVs were blaring at their limits because they are not connected to a sound system and they were also competing with the music playing on the sound system. There is nothing quaint or special about this bar in an area full of bars within a short minute walk that offer more service and quality. It is a shame because it has potential and the Homage brand should require more.

Yelp
When we passed this bar during the day, we were enthralled with how cozy and inviting it looked, just from the outside. Returning at night felt even better! The flooring, the decor and just all the right style choices made for a really special feel. While sitting at the bar, it kind of felt like I was on a movie scene. As you can tell here, whoever designed this place knocked it out of the park. My drink, a vodka with melon syrup concoction, was pretty good. I loved the maraschino cherry added to it. A bit pricy, but when you make me feel like I'm in a 1950s soda shop, I'm fine with it. The bartender (who said her name was something else, but that everyone ended up calling her 'Janet') was very kind and friendly. She offered me a piece of candy from an old cigar box. Seriously, this place is like an experience on its own. I loved every part of Homage.

Yelp
Had a great time with friends. We loved that they have so many N.A. options. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I did meet my best friends there however I got 3 drinks and it was 81 dollars. Unexceptionable. Had fun but not worth the money.
