Opinion: How has the pandemic affected the elderly? - SilverKris

"A platform that taps into a flexible pool of non-clinical care professionals to match the right type of caretaker to an individual’s needs, addressing a growing long-term care demand driven by global ageing. With around 80% of long-term care needs being non-medical, the service positions itself as a way for motivated, non-clinical caregivers to help fill the shortage, and to be mobilised as trained home carers or as support staff for Covid-19 screenings, nursing homes, hospitals and recovery/isolation facilities. Its approach aligns with wider calls to professionalise aged care, scale training efforts, and foster public–private partnerships so that caregivers can be deployed safely and effectively as part of a more preventive, technology-enabled model of eldercare." - Charlene Fang & Rachel Eva Lim

Google
Homage is always my first stop for finding gifts for people. They have a large, rotating variety of gifts and support many local artists. I always enjoy stopping in and saying hi to the workers there even if I am not feeling like buying something.

Google
Homage is the best corner gift store! I love the larger space. Found a couple sweet gifts and a cool throw.

Google
Love this shop - it's full of gift ideas for others (and myself). Cute jewelry and home items, some books and lotions. I always do the rounds to find gifts for my mom and my partner's mom before birthdays and Christmas.

Google
Oh my where do I start. This is my favorite artsy shop in Old Town. It’s very original! The owner Jill has a wonderful eye for unique treasures. The staff are kind and the location is beautiful. They have expanded for more art. Visit and see for yourself! Get ready for the holidays.🧚‍♂️

Google
Such a cute little store!!! I stumbled upon it randomly but it’s been open for around 9 years if I remember correctly. I definitely can’t wait to go back to pick up some Knick knacks.

Yelp
What acute little store! They have a whole wall of hilarious and adorable cards, little candles, handbags ,handmade pottery, cute earrings and necklaces! If you need a gift for that eclectic person in your life, stop by Homage! We visited on the Melting Pot Old Pasadena food walking tour while waiting for food to be done and I am so glad that we visited! With the Eaton fire sizzling down they have turned the back of the shop into a shop for those in need of basics and clothing. I really appreciated this and made sure to buy something here to support their efforts. If you want a store that supports the community, you have found it!

Yelp
I trust my first impressions, and Homage is a great example. Walked by late on a Friday night, and noticed it was closed but it looked very cool, a place that I needed to visit. Well, we did the next day, and I'm so glad we did. Jill and Todd could not have been nicer to my much better half and I, friendly, helpful, and fun! They have a great selection of items within their wonderful Old Pasadena space, and it resonated with us a great deal. Bought a yellow-colored pen that was much-needed on this trip, and Todd was funny and kind! Followed them on IG and will stay engaged because it's a good vibe, and Jill has awesome taste.

Yelp
Look no further for the most clever, hilarious and perfect last minute gifts for ANYONE

Yelp
What a cute store! It was really busy when I went in, but the associates still made time to greet me. They had some super cool coffee table books which were beautiful.

Yelp
I came here on Small Business Saturday. It's a cute little gift shop, the items range from affordable to expensive so you can find things for everyone depending on your budget. If you're looking for unique gift ideas this may be the spot. Service was great, the employees were attentive and asked if anyone needed help. There is a parking garage nearby but be sure to check if the rate is okay, there's one near The Container Store that can get pretty expensive.

Yelp
I love this store! They have so many nice things here, especially an impressive amount of Baggu items. The staff is super nice and helpful, too!

Yelp
Cutest boutique with adorable trinkets, gifts, candles, cards, books, tchotchkes, and even jewelry! I definitely recommend!

Yelp
My friends and I were walking around after having dinner at Fishwives when we came across Homage. I'm happy we decided to stop by. This is such a magical little shop to walk around and see all the neat things that they offer. They have a selection of bags, jewelry, cards, candles, books, pins and stickers, and all sorts of other lovely items. They have such impeccable taste and I have to stop myself from buying everything. The staff is so kind and helpful. My friend was interested in a necklace and the staff showed her that it could be tied off for a different look. She was also very patient while my friend looked through all the gems because they had such a gorgeous assortment of colors that it was hard to choose. The reason I'm giving 5 stars is because of their service. Unfortunately, they ran out of the sticker I wanted. The staff took down my number and called as soon as they had it back in stock. They only order 12-18 of each sticker so if you like it, just get it! I also asked for a little paper bag to hold my purchases and they delivered with a cute tiny bag that's perfect for gifting.

Yelp
They will follow you around if you're a person of color. It made us feel extremely uncomfortable, and we've been to this store several times. This will definitely be our last visit. Don't spend your money where you're not welcome.

Yelp
Very neat store. We stayed at Marriot Courtyard. We happened to walked into this store. They have really cool items . A lot of handmade goodies like from jewelries , potteries card stocks, Candles etc.. one of a kind items. The lady worker who I forgot the names . She was very friendly , helpful .

Yelp
Need a last minute gift for someone but don't want it to seem that way? Homage is full of cute and useful items that would make any gift receiver a happy camper. Carefully crafted items with this amount of detail suggest you put a lot of thought into the gift, whether you actually did or not. If you're a friend of mine and you're reading this, don't feel bad. I'm just a procrastinator. Anyway, I've been here a handful of times and their inventory changed almost completely each time. You have some skin products, drinking receptacles, handmade jewelry and other accessories, ornaments, and various home goods. There are lots of puns, some plants and books about them, and other small items. I haven't come across another gift shop quite like this one in Pasadena so I'll probably keep coming back to this one if I have more last-minute...I mean, important gifts to buy.

Yelp
Adorable little gift shop that recently reopened at the bookend of the Shops on Holly in Old Pasadena. Popped in for the first time a couple weeks ago in search of an anniversary gift. Homage offers books, unique cards, vintage glass sets, candles, homemade jewelry and so much more. Prepare to spend some time looking it all over. The staff went above and beyond to tend to me. I really felt they were invested in my shopping experience. I regret not asking their names. A sweet woman practically walked me around the entire store asking about preferences and offering numerous gift suggestions. Once I settled on a few items to purchase another staff member was extremely diligent with wrapping each of my items beautifully. Thank you for taking an interest in my search. Me saying I'm impressed doesn't cut it. Next time I need a gift, Homage is where I'm heading to first.

Yelp
Cute gift shop in old town Pasadena. I love that they have variety lots of fun and unique things. If you're in town, you should visit! It's a little pricey but I enjoy look around and find something that I like. Staff seems friendly but I sense they keep their eyes on you lol. That doesn't bother me tho.

Yelp
Super cute shop with goodies galore. Find your pot friendly goodies and accessories here. I love the tullieries rose scented candles and roll on. So yummy.

Yelp
I love this store. It has so many unique gifts! From handmade jewelry to incense and cbd oils. The employees are always super helpful and take a personal interest in whatever you're looking for. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the girl who helped me but she was so friendly and knowledgeable about the things they sold. She knew a lot about the HANDMADE JEWELRY. She told me about the great collections they had and knew the names for everything. My random find is always the awesome DECKS OF CARDS. They have decks that I've never seen and they are always so distinctive. I always have to pick up a deck for someone. You can never have to many! I will allllways stop in here when I have the chance!

Yelp
Lovely selection of a variety of items. Walked in for a small bag I saw in the window. Perused some beautiful jewelry and small knickknacks. My friend was enamored with a few necklaces. Great service to top it off. Wish I lived close to this store but I will definitely shop the website. Stop by when in Old Pasadena, you won't regret it.

Yelp
The owner Jill was so nice when I called about the Baggu Hello Kitty & Friends collection. She even went above and ask me which product I was looking for and listed all of them which I truly appreciate since her store was the only one who had them in stock currently until Baggu + Sanrio does release them officially. I finally went into the store and was so happy to see it still available! I was even able to get assistance from her and her employee this tall gentleman. The store definitely feels homey! Love all the cards, Baggu, candles and jewelry they had! Definitely signed up for their mailing list. Thanks Jill!

Yelp
I came here for Christmas gifts and was able to purchase everything and they gift wrapped it as well. It was wrapped so beautiful I just had to put it under the tree! Also the assortment of merchandise was great! They had so many cool items to buy. Loved this store will be coming back again!

Yelp
Me and my family decided to walk into Hömage today to browse their selection after noticing some cute items in the shop window. We weren't acknowledged on the way in as we noticed other customers were. They took the time to acknowledge several other customers walking in to inform them of a summer sale going on at the time. The female employee, Jill, walked over to them and engaged in conversation with others except us. The male staff, Cody, stood behind the counter the entire time. Not once were we acknowledged or asked if we needed any assistance. Other customers, even without purchasing anything, walked out and were acknowledged once again by being thanked and told to have a nice day. Even after all of this, we STILL decided to buy some items from their shop. As we walked out, as paying customers, they still didn't even take the time to acknowledge us as they did others. After reading other reviews it seems like this is a common issue amongst certain groups of people. They must lack consistency with ALL customers. They may be catering more so towards a certain type of clientele. The environment here is very UNWELCOMING. We'll be sure to take our business elsewhere in the future. I advise others to do the same.

Yelp
Love this shop full of wonderful local artist creations. We went by this evening to find something special for two loved ones birthdays. Found some absolutely splendid gifts, enjoyed looking at every hand made item, and had a great visit with the shop owner who wrapped our gifts with gorgeous style and extra care. Would definitely recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for one of kind, high quality crafted items for themselves or others.

Yelp
I LOVE this store. I happen to just be walking by and saw something cute in the window! Glad I walked in!! They have a variety of unique items at great prices! The staff was very friendly and helpful! Will definitely come by whenever I'm in Pasadena! Great place to find gifts or something nice for yourself.

Yelp
I have come here several times to pick up gifts and have not been disappointed. They carry a wide range of styles and price points, you will find something for everyone. Staff are friendly and make great suggestions. Love that they gift wrap so you can literally pick something up on your way to your gathering.

Yelp
I adore this little shop on Holly! The staff here are always very helpful and very welcoming! Jill the owner has beautiful taste, she always has the best gifts available and the cutest cards too! I love Anna she is just such a sweetheart and always has the best recommendations! This store is such a breath of fresh air and I love that they support women and local artists! Overall great prices and the cutest finds!! They also host some great shopping events!!

Yelp
Went back a few months later. It was really nice but the construction out front was keeping people from going in as easily. Upping my rating as it was really me wishing I could afford something in her store than anything less than lovely in there. Old Pasadena rents are high so I get it. The only wish is that there was something in there a pandemic unemployed woman could afford. I got more cards. Just because I wanted to show some kind of support. Go in even if you are poor. It's like a museum shop with carefully curated pieces. We admired all of them. Drooled a little.

Yelp
Unique merchandise, beautifully displayed. Great place to look for gifts. Helpful, courteous customer service too.

Yelp
Followed my co-worker here as he was looking for a gift for his girlfriend. So to be honest I came in just to follow him and look around. I've never been much of a "boutique" guy, but I was really impressed with this place. Tons of cool, various items ranging from jewelry of all sorts, to neat little books, and tons of vintage looking items. You could honestly find something here for anyone. Long story short, the service was extremely helpful (helloooo free gift wrap), and I ended up getting Christmas gifts for 3 different people that I know they'll love. Good hidden gem in Old Town.
google avatar

Yelp
Purchased perfect Christmas and anniversary gifts made by local Los Angeles jewelry designers. The pieces are very organic and exactly what I was looking for. The store beautifully gift wrapped my purchased. I highly recommend Homage.

Yelp
Best Little Shop in Pasadena! Every time I enter this shop I am always amazed at what I find on the shelves. Jill ( the owner) puts so much work into crafting her store, and you can feel it the moment that you enter the shop. This shop has everything you need, for any occasion. Birthday? Homage. Anniversary? Homage. Holiday? Homage. And for that oh so wonderful "Just Because" gift, Homage. The knowledge that every associate has about the Artists and the techniques they use to make the pieces help to ensure that your gift will be definitively unique, with a backstory to match. Don't waste your time shopping on the Boulevard. Take a walk down to Holly Street, step into Homage, and experience Pasadena Charm like you never have before.

Yelp
I was just browsing in the area but felt like I was being followed by both employees. I don't think it was racially motivated but it was hard to browse or shop. I would've been more inclined to purchase something had I not been followed around.

Yelp
Drove all the way out here on a Monday, Their Yelp hours said they were open. Found out they were closed according to the hours posted on the door :(. Please update your hours!

Yelp
Delightful gift shop. Tasteful, artisan selection. Wide range of price options. What I like best is their unique, artful gift wrapping.

Yelp
Jill's store is one of the most carefully curated boutiques I've ever had the pleasure to shop. And I'm a native Angeleno who has shopped (oftentimes just browsed) in countless wonderful boutiques over the years. Hers stands out amongst the rest. I usually go to Old Town Pasadena specifically just to shop here. Her taste is impeccable. Her employees are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, as is she. Not only is her merchandise perfection, but her merchandising is too. They are masters of composing their items in an accessible yet artful way. There's not a lot else I can say that can add more insight which hasn't been mentioned in the many previous 5-star reviews. (As an aside, frankly, the glowing 4-star reviews should be 5...it confounds me why Yelpers rave about a place and get stingy on leaving these hard-working small business owners only 4 stars, messing with their averages and oftentimes, bottom lines. But I digress.) I've made many purchases from Homage ever since Jill opened what has remained one of my favorite stores to fuel my artisan addiction. I've readily found some of my favorite things for my home, to wear, and to give as gifts: sterling silver artisan necklaces, handmade matte glazed pottery, handmade cutting board, embroidered bandanas, cutest tiny glass lady bug that landed on my BF's desk... If you park in one of the three Old Town parking structures, you get 90 minutes free and it's a quick walk to Homage. They're very conscientious about being COVID safe. So if you're looking for unique and tasteful gifts for yourself or for any gender of any age, you can seriously make Homage your one stop shop. (I was just there and I'm already itching to go back!)

Heenyun K.

Yelp
Nice collection! I am satisfied with their collection. They have what I need. Thank you for being there.

Yelp
If you're looking for boutique shopping and unique gifts, get off of Colorado Blvd. in Old Town. The block of Holly Street that Homage just opened at offers several small gift boutiques that are worth checking out. I went during the Grand Opening and it was too crowded to look at everything. Homage opened last week. The owner is a jewelry designer - you'll find her wares at the shop, along with jewelry from other local artisans. The shop carries handmade products from local designers, including ceramics and tableware. You'll also find candles, soaps, pin cushions, cookbooks, cheeseboards, honey, purses, scarves, playing cards, wooden utensils and wood prints featuring images of LA and Pasadena. The scarves feature geometric abstract patterns that reminded me of Lotta Jansdotter, the Swedish designer. The items are more expensive than what you'd find at some chain store (e.g., $44 for a mug), but they're local and unique. The wares would appeal to an older (middle aged) crowd. My pick: * Antler earrings

Yelp
This store is the best place to find a gift for yourself or for someone else. It's evident that everything in the store is selected with care and with a great eye. I would love to receive just about anything from Homage as a gift and have bought myself quite a few things since the first time I walked in. Aside from the fantastically curated selection and quality, customer service is top notch. I just bought some earrings for some girlfriends and every single one was gift wrapped for me with even a little removable label on the back so that I could tell them apart. So thoughtful! I really love supporting this store and would recommend it to anyone looking for a gift for others or themselves.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of this little shop - I've picked up both Christmas and Valentine's day gifts from here. It's two blocks north of the hustle and bustle of Colorado Blvd. They mainly carry jewelry and earrings, but they have an assortment of other home décor items as well. Most of their items are produced by small artisans, and they kind of fit into a high-end, handcrafted, earthly-inspired aesthetic. The store has a bit of a Berkeley or San Francisco vibe. The jewelry is generally on the pricier side, but you can definitely find some very affordable earrings or necklaces in the $20-$50 range as well. The staff here has always been extremely helpful (especially for someone like me that rarely shops for jewelry), and thoughtful with their suggestions. The collection seems to be frequently updated, as I have shopped here several times in the last 2 months and they had quite a few new items each visit.

Yelp
We recently placed an internet order with Homage. We had been to their retail store while visiting Pasadena in the past. (We're not sure they had a website at that time.) Since we were sheltering in place, we checked and discovered her great looking website! The owner always has some unique items that you can't find anywhere! We place an order, received free shipping and, in a few days, received our order. The order was very well packed and arrived in excellent condition. We'll hopefully be able to visit this store in person later this year. ps. They have a number of CBD products along with some great shower bombs! (The eucalyptus scent is great!!)

Yelp
I live in Palo Alto, CA and have been extremely busy with teaching my students online and also completing a 2nd masters degree (Yes - I'm a nerd and loving it). My mother's 74th birthday was on Saturday, November 7th (when we were all desperately awaiting results from the 2020 elections on the news). I called and spoke to Cody who was very friendly, patient and helpful. He really knew the products and made fabulous recommendations! He made sure that my mom got a beautiful gift that same day and wrapped it himself. I chose a Voyage et Cie candle and bottled perfume fragrance set along with a beautiful yellow decorative scarf, which she loves! Thank you HoMage Team! I have already started to tell friends and family in L.A. to visit your shop and they all have been online and love what they see. Best wishes as we conclude 2020 and get ready to celebrate 2021 with new leadership in America! It all starts with simple acts of kindness, compassion and attention to FABULOUS detail! WE are in this together and WE got this! April H. (native Angeleno - Born & Raised) UC Berkeley Alumn & Former Athlete Educator & Supporter of Businesses That Respresent Community & Unity

Yelp
I was in the area and I ended up in Homage. This store has so many unique items that you can find a gift for anyone...including yourself! Great selection of greeting cards, candles, beautiful jewelry and other great gifts. The staff is very helpful and personable. The owner Jill and the rest of the staff can definitely help you pick out something special for you or anyone on your list. Perfect for the upcoming holidays or really anytime. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Lots of fun browsing. Handcrafted jewelry, fun cards, unique items, unusual gifts, etc. Not someplace to bring a child, very small space and lots of glass! I might suggest the employees not talk about their personal relationships while customers are waiting...way too much information!

Alexander D.

Yelp
Cute store full of unique little curiosities. I have a hard time going in here without buying anything.
google avatar

Yelp
The moment I entered I got like weird looks. Don't get me wrong I wasn't look my cutest today! & that's because I have a cold!!! & even with the cold I'm wayyyy cuter then the girls there.. anyway *hair flip* so as I walked through the store this young Asian girl kept walking by me like basically getting in my way! & then I asked her "do you work here ??? because I thought you were another customer the entire time." Because it's rude for her to not acknowledge me or ask if I need help! I've worked in customer service for ten years! Then I see the owner creeping at me and staring at me over her computer. I just assumed that the young Asian & the owner were related & asked the girl and what do you know ??? They were! Lolol. The young Asian was sooo rude & entitled & so snobby!!! Like you are not that cute! ur skin is awful. anyway, I'm not being petty.Have some respect & learn some good customer service! Having a little smart ass attitude only makes you & the owner look bad! I was going to buy this cute "herbs & flowers" book but after all that I was like bye! Never again. xoxo

Yelp
This is a Gem of a lil store! Everything is so unique and special, hand picked by the owner Jill. I love her gorgeous art installation in the front window! It feels like a treasure box you would discover in your travels to NY, Boston or San Francisco, but right in our neighborhood! Love the peaceful vibe! It's definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Wendy A.

Yelp
I'm a fan of Jill the owner. I know her as she's a fabulous jewelry designer by trade. Has impeccable taste. Her boutique is filled with unique and creative artisan handicraft items of artisans that she knows, trusts and have worked with over the years. If you need a gift, she has unique items from the lower end of the $$ scale to some high quality artisan products that are of great value. Something for everyone. And if it is a gift, she has gorgeous gift wrapping - like her boutique, gift wrapped presents reflect the creative artist of the owner. Even if you aren't in need of a gift, it's worth the visit to Homage to scope out all the amazing items they have so when you do need a gift, you'll say ah-ha I'm off to Homage! Wendy

Yelp
What a darling store. Love the eclectic mix of knick knacks and home decor they carry. I will definitely be back to do more shopping at Homage. :)

Yelp
Found a brand new yummy place today... Homage is a totally awesome gift store with museum quality ceramics and jewelry, candles, and other amazing home decor items! In a great location on Holly it is seriously close the the free pasadena parking located on Raymond (the backside of the Courtyard Marriott- 90 min free) So if you can't find easy parking... its just a short skip to the shop! Fun, fun, fun!

Yelp
I may be biased since this boutique is owned by my high school friend, Jill! Stopped by yesterday to see her and the shop! I found a perfect set of earrings for Mother's Day and also found something for myself. What impressed me are the different array of items (artwork) in her place! Pottery, soaps, candles, her Wasabi Jewelry line, scarves, purses, cast iron pieces...I could go on and on. Ask her about each piece and she will tell you about the artist, etc. It was so nice to see her again after (*#&$(* number of years)! I will definitely be back and love supporting her business! Congrats Jill on a job well done!
