The 7 Best Hostels in Lisbon (Updated 2025)

"In Lisbon’s historic city center I felt at home here — you even meet “Mamma,” the owner’s mom, who prepares a communal meal each night; the hostel runs an evening night tour and regular trips to places like Sintra and Cabo da Roca, the rooms are spacious with balconies and big windows and bunks have privacy curtains, and there’s a co-working space if you’re a digital nomad." - Matthew Kepnes

My boyfriend and I spent 3 days at Home and loved it! The people who worked at the reception are so welcoming and helpful. It was so comfortable to relax in one of their common areas and enjoy a beverage. We went on one of the walking tours they offer after breakfast, led by Wendo, and we had a blast. The breakfast food was delicious and hearty...just what we needed to begin a day of walking. If you have a chance to sign up for one of Mama's dinners, you will not be disappointed, make sure to sign up in the morning because it often fills up. They post the menu at the reception desk. It was delicious and the company of our fellow travelers was so enjoyable. They also offer pub crawls and as much as we would have liked to experience it, we were so tired. I highly recommend this hostel

I just left, and I already miss HOME. This hostel offers impeccable service from check-in to check-out. The staff is welcoming, professional, and very helpful. The facilities are varied and truly enjoyable — dinner with Mama is the must-do experience you can’t miss during your stay! The Sintra tour with João was fascinating and, above all, enriched with stops that go beyond the typical tourist spots. The bathrooms and rooms are spotless; I really appreciated the attention to cleanliness and the separate spaces (men’s and women’s bathrooms are divided, even if you’re staying in a mixed dorm). In short, I can’t wait to come back HOME!!

It's my first time traveling somewhere to experience the hostel culture and I think I couldn't have had a better start than with Home. The areas that they offer to chill and the activities to sign up for like Mama's dinner, Walking tours, Pub Crawl and Sintra Tour or having breakfast there are great ways to meet people. I personally enjoyed the Sintra Tour with the tour guide João the most. I had the luck to have had great roommates as well (4 mixed bedroom). Just deducted one star because the walls must be rather thin, so you always here when people are in the hallway. Plus there are no shelves or hooks in the bathrooms for your towels or toiletry bags.

Truly loved my stay at Home Hostel - probably my favourite hostel I've ever stayed in. It is a little more expensive than others in the area, but definitely worth it. I think the price contributes to it attracting a certain kind of person. I've never met so many friendly people at a hostel and everyone in my room was very respectful. Maybe a slightly older average age than other hostels I've stayed in (less 18yos!) which suited me. Highly recommend the tours as well - I did the walking tour, Sintra tour, and dinner and all were fantastic (Sintra tour in particular was very memorable). The staff are super friendly and the rooms were clean and well laid out. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great hostel in Lisbon!

Pros: - the staff were one of the friendliest I’ve seen. They made this place great. - the dorms were spacious compared to most. I wish there were blinds on the top bunk beds though. - the facilities were beautiful. I loved the common areas and Cons: - not super social, people mostly were quiet and kept to themselves. I wish there were more social events.

Great hostel! Up there among my best experiences. Many opportunities to meet people. Lots of different common areas to work or chill in. Very spacious 4 bed dorms with large lockers. Tip: if you’re a women staying in a mix dorm, ask for access to the common female showers / bathrooms or else you’ll only have one bathroom available

Home Lisbon Hostel 🇵🇹 ⭐ Rating: 6.5/10 This hostel has a few nice things going for it — the location is excellent, right in the heart of Lisbon, and the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. The common areas and facilities are also well-equipped and cozy, which makes it a comfortable place to hang out or meet other travelers. However, there are some serious downsides that really impacted my stay. There’s a strong, unpleasant smell in several parts of the hostel, including the bathrooms, where the drain stench can get so bad it makes you want to puke 🤢. The rooms offer little privacy, especially on the top bunk beds with no curtains, so you feel totally exposed. And having only one shower/toilet per floor is far from ideal — expect to wait during peak hours. 💡 Verdict: Great staff and location, but the hygiene issues and lack of privacy definitely need improvement. #LisbonHostel #TravelReview #BackpackerLife #HostelExperience

Nice hostel in a good location, with lots of restaurants/tourist attractions within walking distance. Rooms and beds were nice with curtains on the bottom bunks, lockable containers under the beds and lights/power points by the beds. The common areas were also nice and laundry facilities are available although they malfunctioned when we used them but the staff were kind enough to refund us. The aircon unit in our room was very old and made a very loud ticking noise which meant we couldn’t sleep with it on. There was only one girls bathroom in the mixed dorm area which was annoying. But on the whole this was a good hostel!
