Home Hostel is a truly special place. The aesthetic is unique and cozy, and from the moment you arrive, you feel like you’re at home. On top of that, the location is perfect. I absolutely loved Mama’s Dinners. Mama is an extraordinary person — like any loving mother on this planet, she has the gift of bringing everyone together around a table, no matter their nationality. The staff… honestly, they are all amazing. I may not have met everyone, but a huge thank you to Jonas from the night shift, who keeps you company in the middle of the night with conversations so good you completely forget about sleeping. Special mention to Guille, Rosita, and Adriano, who make mornings at the hostel something to look forward to. They always have a smile and the ability to make you start the day in the best possible mood. Manel is hands down the best DJ in the house — and the funny thing is, the moment you ask him to speak Portuguese so you can practice, he suddenly switches back to English. A big shout-out as well to the volunteers, who are all incredibly kind and welcoming. And of course, João, my FIFA 25 guru — if he offers you a match for a free night at the hostel, you’d better be ready… otherwise, he will absolutely humiliate you 😄 I’ll be back home very soon. Just got back from my first trip to Portugal and I'm very glad I chose this hostel - it's by far the best one I've ever stayed at. The Dinner with Mama and Bingo Night created a very welcoming environment and made it easier to connect with other guests. I walked away with several new friends! The location is within walking distance of different public transit, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from. The facilities themselves are pretty good too - everything you'd hope to have from a hostel. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay fun and enjoyable. Highly recommend staying here, I know I'll definitely be back!

I cannot stress enough how special this hostel really was. First off, the rooms are nice. They're small, but the beds are pretty comfy, they have curtains, a lockable drawer below them, and a pillow that isn't filled with cotton balls. The bathrooms are also cleaned daily, have multiple sinks, and actually hot water. The location is pristine. You are a 20 minute (or less) walk from The Folks(voted in the top 100 coffees in the world), the Lisbon Cathedral, a hundred places to grab a beer, an amazing shop that sells wool and organic products, and the Secret Garden--go here to see the sunset. You can get a tattoo, participate in a bunch of activities, tag along in a bar crawl, and even get a delicious home cooked meal cooked by a woman appropriately named Mama. She is the kindest lady and she will literally make you feel like family and if you're lucky you get a kiss on the cheek at the end. Lastly, the staff are the type of people you never forget. Manuel and Adriano treated me so kindly even after I rang the buzzer like five times to get in (I thought it wasn't working and I was tired from traveling. Please don't do this. If you are new, they are coming.) Vinny has the vibe, face, and voice of an actual angle. Vanessa will give you worst butterfly hand tattoos but the warmest goodbye hugs. And they'll all get you drunk until 4am the night before your flight even if you keep begging to go to bed. Go here, or you're an idiot.

We enjoyed our stay. Location of the hotel makes walking easy for exploring the nearby areas. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Every day the reception staff were helpful and answered questions we had. When we went for breakfast, we especially enjoyed Rosi and Gui. They both were friendly, helpful and very entertaining. Our overall experience here was positive and enjoyable.

Genuinely a perfect option. Home cooked meals are great & cheap. Staff are fun and have activities to get people together. Rooms are large, beds are nice, bathrooms are clean and large. Location is right in the center of the city, public transportation is max 10 minutes walk away. All at a great price too.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. From the first day, the atmosphere felt warm and relaxed. Rosalía brought such a lovely energy in the mornings and made the place feel like home. Gui was always friendly and helpful, making sure everyone felt comfortable. The hostel was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the common areas were perfect for meeting other travelers. Great location and amazing vibes — I would definitely come back!

Stayed in a private room with my brother, we absolutely LOVED Home. The hostel was very clean, great service by all the staff (shoutout Gui, Juju and Rosi). Home has amazing energy and we made a lot of friends during our stay. We also did the Sintra tour which I highly recommend with Juão and the pub crawl you must do at least once. Mamma is so kind and her food is delicious !!!

Great location, awesome staff, clean facilities! Lots of events organized by the hostel, perfect for a solo traveller. Food options provided are at great prices! Kitchen and laundry available. Bed was a bit hard for my liking but I didn’t have any issues falling asleep. Bring earplugs to be able to sleep through your roommates coming in/out!

Wonderful hostel! Super clean, great service, friendly staff! The hostel is very conveniently located and in a safe neighborhood! You're walking distance from the sea.

this hostel is very nice and a great way to meet people. take the sintra trip they offer, our tour guide Joao was more of a friend for the day taking us on an adventure than just a tour guide. we went to caba da roca, another beautiful lookout, and the beach to swim too. The mamas dinner is so special and she's a great cook. Thank you to the hostel workers who were always there for anything we needed.

Everyone slips up, even nice hostels, hotels, and restaurants. While a nice place, when I arrived, I was treated very poorly tuning up and down two flights of stairs to fix the AC when the staff should have done it. Because of this and the reception sharing it's space with a bar, I was left out of what the hostel had to offer. I was not told about when and how to sign up with "dinners with mama" and was hurt they seemingly decided to treat some people better than myself and others very blatantly. I had high expectations that fell flat. I would not stay here, but I wouldn't not recommend it. Breakfast is nice and the bathrooms well maintained. Hopefully your experience here goes better than mine!

I booked this Hostel for a 6 night stay this month, & pre-paid in full. You can imagine my absolute shock when I was told, too bad for you, your booking was "non-refundable" & we are not going to give you back a dime. Seriously? The country is closed to non-Portuguese. The Hostel is not accepting new bookings. The pandemic is alive & well, & people are dying. Iam on lockdown in my country & can't travel. My airline reservation was cancelled. Seriously? Stealing my money, you won't get away with treating your customers like this. And I thought the USA had serious issues----I guess it's global, folks. You should be ASHAMED to steal money for a service/product that can't be fulfilled. It's wrong, & you won't get away with it,

Totally impressed by this place and glad that I chose to stay here. Firstly getting to the place from the airport is very simple. Either take the aerobus 1 or the metro and you'll get there in about 15 minutes. The bus drops you off at Pra de Figueira or Comercio and it's a 3 to 5 minute walk from there. One thing I'd advise is to be careful while getting off at the bus stops especially with your belongings and luggages. Everyone behind the reception was very nice and helpful. Met Joao and ?Inez on the first day who were both great and gave me lots of useful tips on where to eat and how to get to places. Sometimes they also give you a welcome drink. For trips/tours, although I didn't go I'd heard that Pedro's walking tour is very good. I did go to the surf tour organized by Joao and def recommend it. Even though I've never surfed before, I had a great time. You can do the rest of the tours through the hostel or by yourself. The rooms itself are very good as well. I was in a 6 bed room. Beds are actually quite comfortable. There's also a curtain in the lower bunk beds giving you some privacy. It can be hot sometimes but there's an air conditioner. Locks and towels can be obtained from the front. Bathrooms are shared and are pretty clean (compared to other hostels). They do have a hair dryer but it was out of order. Only thing they could add are probably those wall installed shower gels and shampoos. For food, the breakfast is not included as is mentioned in the trip advisor site although it's only 2 euros and is quite good. Def do mamma's dinner, quite the deal for 10 euros. There's usually a 3 course meal and the food's good. You'll meet lots of people for sure and there's unlimited beer/wine for a certain period. Everyone toasts in the end to the people that are leaving the hostel. There's also happy hour for one hour before dinner. Overall it's a great place to stay. It is quite close to the main square and most attractions such as alfama. There are trams, buses and taxis otherwise. You'll meet people of different ages (there were even families staying). The only negative I'd say it can be somewhat loud at night esp if your windows are open and people party late into the night (the lobby is on the 2nd floor and rooms are on the 4rth). There's a lift by the way for lazy travelers like myself :)

This is the best hostel I've ever stayed at hands down. The atmosphere is great and the people are the best and the most caring about what you would like. Diana is an expert to help you get around Lisbon as she is a native, born and raised in Lisbon as she claims. The others, João, André, the other João and super great and so generous and friendly. Perhaps the highlight of all is Mama's dinner...you almost get unlimited beer and wine, and a 3 course dinner meal includes the soup,the main dish and dessert, the best food I have ever had in Lisbon;I did the dinners everyday it was just too good to miss out. At the end of the dinner they give us a shot of several wines as someone makes a goodbye speech which is so touching love it. The location is great too, you are near the metro baixa/chiado statio, Rua Augusta, restaurants, Praça do comercio, the river, alfama, bairro alto, Rossio square, starbucks, etc. The rooms are very comfortable and if you get a bottom bunk you get a curtain and all beds have a power outlet, small shelf and light...also huge lockers under the bed. The washrooms were so clean...the whole hostel was clean. The living room lounge and kitchen are great, they even have a small luggage room and a washing and drying machine. The breakfast is really good too. I went to get breakfast one morning and this young lady greeted me so cheerfully that it started my morning out great. You can also use iPads and computers for free i believe. My favourite part was just meeting everyone and having dinner like just one big happy family. Really easy to talk and meet others. Walking tours and pub crawls are also provided which are great. I will definitely come back for sure. Really sad leaving my Lisbon home.

Completed my stay here a few days ago. I found Home hostel via trip advisor as it was the best rated place in the city, and came recommended by my hostel in Madrid. I really loved the facilities here. They have a massive TV complete with a PS3, satellite TV and large DVD collection. In addition, they have several computers available for guests´ use, and a few iPads as well. The reception, bar area and dining tables are in the same room and are a nice welcome to the property. Most of the staff were very sweet as well in my experience. Home hostel offers a free breakfast every morning, complete with cereals, milk and yogurt, scrambled eggs, fruit, a variety of tea and some meat. In the evenings, Mama, the mother of the owner, cooks an elaborate three-course dinner complete with wine or beer for 10 Euros. I didn´t partake but from all accounts it looked very appetising and an excellent opportunity to meet other travellers. On that note, I met some nice people here with whom I will definitely be keeping in touch. The guests are mostly younger backpackers although there´s also a few strange older folk hanging about. I took a wonderful day trip to Sintra for 15 Euros through the hostel, which was the best decision I made while in town. We visited a castle, several amazing viewpoints near the city and a bakery among several other stops. They also packed everyone a sandwich and gave away water to those who went, a nice touch. I also attended a nice walking tour which left from the hostel one morning which I would recommend. It´s a good introduction to the city and its elaborate history. There´s a bar crawl that leaves from the hostel in the evenings from about 11pm for thirteen euros, including a drink and a few shots at various bars. I didn´t partake on account of cost and my understanding that the tour would return around 3am - a bit too late for me! I found the rooms well-insulated for noise generally, though the doors close loudly every time. My bunk bed was comfortable to a point, but I really did not care for the weak lighting in the room. My air-conditioning was also out of service, so I could not change the temperature in the room. The showers have good water pressure but are absolutely tiny - about the size of a phone booth! The water also splashes everywhere - so keep your clothes and toiletry bag outside. One oddity was that there was no hot water in the bathroom sink. This meant I could not shave while I was there - or rather I could have but it was not ideal conditions for doing so. I asked about this at reception and was told that´s just how it is! The hostel´s location was quite good, though it was a bit of an adventure getting there. From the intercity bus stop, I took a city bus which took about 40 minutes and I was only able to find my way with directions from several other people, including the bus driver. Home hostel´s signage is excellent and highly visible from the street. Their keycard is a blue watch, easy and convenient to keep track of on one´s wrist! Price wise, I paid a reasonable fifteen euros per night. I believe there´s an extra charge to use a padlock or to borrow a towel if need be. For the three nights I stayed here, I had my own bedroom to myself. There were six beds but I was the only one there. Good or bad I´m not sure, because after a night or two, I was bitten. I had checked under the sheet and on the mattress prior to sleeping on it and it looked fine. As you can imagine the bites were a bit of an inconvenience. Once I realised what had happened I went straight to the staff and asked them what they would do about it. They offered to switch my room for me and wash my laundry. I did a load of laundry that same day and several other loads the next day, which seemed to solve the problem. What irked me was their attitude that it was not in fact bed bugs but perhaps mosquitoes or spiders or something else. Doesn´t really matter - I brought it to their attention privately and as discreetly as possible so as not to upset the other guests. Going back and forth from the laundry to the reception to get coins for the machines I felt like I was hassling the staff by the end of it. I also wasted two evenings running back and forth doing laundry which I would have much rather spent listening to Fados or bar hopping with other guests. Mama was very understanding about the whole situation but I still left with a bit of sour taste in my mouth. As much as I´d like to recommend Home, I cannot given my above experience. It´s got a great atmosphere going and very comfortable amenities, but once bitten, the experience was not a pleasant one. I´m thankful that I´m now almost healed and feeling a lot better.

Good location, walking distance to shops, restaurants, etc. Bottom bunk beds have privacy curtains. Clean. Large bathrooms. Cozy entertainment room. Group dinner cooked and served by Mama herself.

Great location, clean and quite dorms, friendly and awesome staff. They are super helpful and make you feel like family. Such a close and inviting atmosphere. Their walking tours and day trips are amazing. Mama's cooking and family dinners are a great way to meet people and share/join travel plans. Will definitely come back. Highly recommend!

Very clean and well decorated hostel with super friendly and helpful staff. I needed somewhere to stay for only a few hours and the man at concierge helped me get a bed last minute and even included a free breakfast for me since my stay was going to be short. Beds were comfortable and felt private with curtains. Bathrooms were modern and spotless. In just a few hours it easily became one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in.

The best hostel in the world! It's hard to describe how wonderful this place is. It has an enchanting vibe that you really have to experience for yourself. Mumma's dinners are phenomenal!

Its the best! Really nice people you get to know, also many different types of them! Awesome food and a very special atmosphere. Clean, 24h reception and the best area!

I stayed here for New Years, and had a great time! The rooms, bathrooms, and showers are clean. There is 24 hour cleaning staff, so you don't need to worry about it being dirty. Even though the hostel was nearly full, it still felt like I had lots of privacy.

This hostel is a brilliant place to stay in Lisbon. My flight was significantly delayed into the city and I didn't arrive at the hostel until 2am. I was greeted with a warm welcome and a shot of cherry liqueur. I was given a key, which is an automatic wristband... very convienient if you are good at losing keys. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and spacious, there is a drawer for your belongings - best to bring a padlock though. The beds are comfortable and the bottom bunks have curtains. The bathrooms are reasonably clean and I never struck a wait for the showers. The hostel is very social, there's a free walking tour that departs from reception and they put on the famous mama's dinner each night which is a great way to meet people. There is a comfortable lounge area and free breakfast in the morning. And of course, the location is brilliant! The only negative is all the steps you have to walk up to get there! Overall, it's a brilliant hostel and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
