By pure luck, I happened to visit just as the tide went out, revealing the hidden path leading to the temple. I’ve been to Vũng Tàu hundreds of times over the past 30 years, but this was the first time I was fortunate enough to witness this moment. The temple is built on rugged, uneven rocks, so it’s not easy to walk steadily, but the scenery is incredibly charming — absolutely worth experiencing.

Hòn Bà Temple in Vũng Tàu is a unique and atmospheric site that beautifully blends spiritual heritage with dramatic coastal scenery. Perched on a small rocky islet just offshore, the temple is accessible on foot only during low tide, when a narrow causeway emerges from the sea—an experience that feels almost magical and offers excellent photo opportunities. The walk itself, with waves gently lapping on both sides, is a highlight for photographers seeking perspective shots and reflections. The temple is modest but steeped in history, dedicated to the sea goddess and serving as a place of quiet prayer for local fishermen and visitors. From the islet, you can enjoy panoramic views back toward the Vũng Tàu shoreline and out to the open sea, especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset when the sky adds vibrant color to the scene. For those with a camera and a sense of adventure, Hòn Bà Temple is not just a cultural landmark—it’s a captivating blend of faith, nature, and tide-driven mystery.

Fantastic place thanks to its limited time availability. First time visiting Vung Tau over 5 years ago, I didn't even realize you could get there! Turns out, you can walk there during low tide, which is only about 2-3 hours a day. At least this month, it is. Check the tide schedule for Vung Tau online and you'll see when you can make it. Seems to be different every day based on what I saw on the schedules I found online. Lovely little adventure. It is free to visit.

You need to check the low tide schedule carefully before visiting. If you go at the right time, a path opens up, allowing you to walk to the temple. The scenery is beautiful, and it's also nice to explore inside the temple. However, be cautious as the rocks can be slippery, and there’s a risk of injury.

Beautiful place to see. Free entry. Getting there is a little hard since you will be walking on rocks and it slippery. Just be careful and watch your step. You be able to take beautiful pictures.

Only accessible at low tide and worth the walk along the rocky path. We were welcomed by the temple caretakers and given incense sticks for prayers at the altars inside and outside the temple ( a donation is always welcome!). Nice views of Vung Tao from the temple too.

Time to visit is late afternoon so you can walk out to the island and temple. Short hike but make sure to wear sturdy and good grip shoes. You will walk on slippery rocks with banarcles so can get cut easily if slipped. Take time to pray, take in the views and cool breeze. At the base of the island, you will see 3-4 gun emplacements...good historical sights.
