We recently visited Hondo's on Main, and while it had a lot going for it, the food left much to be desired.
The ambiance was nice--super casual and laid-back, exactly what you'd want from a relaxed spot in town. They had a musician performing on the patio, and she was talented, adding to the overall enjoyable vibe.
It's a family and pet-friendly place, which we appreciated. It's also self-service: you order your food at the bar, get a buzzer, and pick up your meal from the kitchen window. Sodas were self-service, and they offered a full bar, which was a plus.
Unfortunately, the food didn't match the atmosphere. I ordered the chicken quesadilla, and while the tortilla had nice char marks, the cheese inside wasn't fully melted, and the chicken was cool--not the hot, fresh bite I was hoping for. Normally, I'd send something like that back, but since it's a self-service setup, it felt more hassle than it was worth.
My wife had the Baked Goat Cheese Salad, which she said was just fine--nothing extraordinary, but at least it was a safer bet than the quesadilla.
In short, go for the music, the relaxed atmosphere, or a drink at the bar--but not for the food.
