"This company has been successfully running some of the region’s best tours of this pristine swampland since 1982. The swamp isn’t too far from some urban centers, but it feels undeniably rural, and outside of the company facility there’s no real sign of modern life. The wildlife was the main event, with small alligators, feral boars, raccoons, water snakes, and turtles. If any of that sounds intimidating, the whole outing is very safe, but your tour guide will bring a hit of bravado to the presentation, which adds some fun drama." - Paul Oswell

Captain Chris took us out and I was really impressed with his knowledge. He really made the trip enjoyable and informative. We saw over 13 alligators and he made sure that both sides of the boat got a chance to see them up close. We also saw raccoons, birds, turtles, and so many beautiful trees and plants. Everyone at this establishment was friendly and kind. Highly recommend.

Google
We took this tour yesterday, March 23. It was a great time. A little early for many gators but saw part of our beautiful country I had never seen before. If you’re in the area, do it!!! Great Captain, great scenery and very educational! I had never been in a bayou! So beautiful and calming! Take this tour!!

Google
If you’re in New Orleans and want a break from Bourbon Street, I highly recommend hopping on a swamp tour. We wasn’t sure what to expect, but it ended up being one of the coolest things we did on the trip. The boat ride was super chill, and the guide was funny and full of stories about the area and the wildlife. We saw a bunch of alligators (some really close), birds, turtles, and even a raccoon wandering around the edge of the water. The swamp itself was beautiful—kind of eerie in the best way, with those mossy trees and calm water. Definitely worth the time, especially if you like nature or just want to see something different. Bring your camera!

Google
Our family took this tour yesterday for Mother’s Day. What a beautiful day. Captain Chris was a wonderful guide with so much knowledge. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and are already thinking about when we plan to go back.

Reid AG

Google
Great tour with great tour guide. Saw lots of animals in the swamp including up close viewings of alligators and turtles. Would go again next time I’m in the area.

Victoria

Google
100/100 amazing experience. Wonderful stories about the bayou, some teachings, and one extraordinary ride around the swamp. Lots of gators 🐊🐊 Will definitely do again!

Shoshana Finkel

Google
We had an amazing time - learned so much from our guide and saw all kinds of animals. We got up close to the gators but still felt very safe. Transport to and from our hotel was also very smooth.

Arielle Acord

Google
First time experiencing a bayou tour. Saw many many alligators ! Guide was professional, goofy and knowledgeable. I felt safe on board

Amanda W.

Yelp
I booked a private boat trip for my friend's retirement from the Navy. A few of us, including my friend and her mother, have taken this tour before. We were so excited to share the tour with close family and friends that flew in from across the country. Captain Chris was one of the best captains that I have had the pleasure of taking the tour with! He was funny, witty, entertaining, and he provided a lot of educational information about the wildlife and swamp / ecosystem facts. Thank you for an amazing tour! Best regards to the entire staff, Captain Chris, and crew for helping to make an amazing day and memory happen for our guests! We will continue to highly recommend your tour and we will book again soon! Thank YOU!

Terry W.

Yelp
The trip was really cool, you could tell our guide really enjoyed his job. Once we turned off the river and got deeper into the swamp the trip changed a lot. Multiple spots had 4-5 alligators together waiting to be feed or to feed. We seen several different types of animal species. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was the tour guide made too many political jokes and comments. I'd like to enjoy my tour without hearing about politics, we're on vacation for goodness sakes.

Thomas S.

Yelp
What an awesome experience. We came down in late June and had captain Hunter, I believe. He was super friendly and funny. We saw some 12 gators and a bunch of bird and turtles as well. If it weren't for the heat, being from up north, it would've been perfect. As I wouldn't blame them for that, I definitely recommend this tour and would go back the next time we're in the area!

Pritika M.

Yelp
I recently took a tour of the Honey Island Swamp and it was absolutely incredible! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area and its wildlife, and we were able to see all sorts of amazing creatures up close, including alligators, raccoons, turtles, and various bird species. The scenery was breathtaking and the boat ride was so much fun. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to experience the beauty of the Louisiana swamps. Five stars all the way!

Krista A.

Yelp
The tour was wonderful! Capt. Kyle was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna as well as the history of the wetlands. If you want to see the beauty of Louisiana, you absolutely must go on this tour!

Deanna W.

Yelp
Today we went on the tour . There was 12 in our group ! The tour was fantastic ! Captain Chris made the trip very fun and informative! We will definitely be doing this trip again ! If your ever in Slidell and looking for something to do give this a try !!

Erica R.

Yelp
If you want to learn a lot, laugh a lot, and see some beautiful sights, this is the tour for you! My friend and I went on the 11:30am swamp tour for Labor Day weekend. The tour itself is about an hour and 45 minutes long. We saw it all from turtles, alligators, herons, and more! To take the tour is $29 for an adult with a military discount of $24. You do have to pay IN CASH so keep that in mind. The tour host, Captain Paul, was very funny but also a great teacher. We learned a lot and had a fun time.

Crystal R.

Yelp
I went on this tour 12 years ago and loved it so much that I brought my family to NOLA just for them to have the same experience. Captain Roy was informative, experienced, a good speaker and made us feel safe. On this tour we saw and heard woodpeckers, several alligators, an

Amy S.

Yelp
We had a fantastic time today doing a swamp tour. We saw so many different swamp critters and Captain Hunter was equal parts knowledgeable and entertaining! Highly recommend!

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Such a fun experience with kids! Kid friendly atmosphere but such a great experience for just adults as well. Our tourist guide was Hunter he was very informative and made us laugh the whole way

Ellen J.

Yelp
Went out for a tour with Captain Hunter! Had a great time. Learned a lot, saw a bunch of alligators and other wildlife! Hunter was hilarious and friendly. 10/10 would recommend on your visit to New Orleans!

Cole C.

Yelp
Great, two hour tour along the Old Pearl River and it's swampy offshoots. We saw lots of alligators, birds, and raccoons. No wild hogs, unfortunately. We did see multiple alligators "jump" for marshmallows, about 2/3 of their bodies rising out of the water to snap the treat, which was both cool but also felt very staged... like a dolphin show at SeaWorld kind of. My kids ate it up, but my favorite aspect of the tour was actually hearing about growing up on the bayou, how the river has changed as a consequence of the surrounding development, and the life of people who still occupy the floating houses along the river, many of which are decrepit. The tour guide was knowledgeable and knew that area like the back of his hand. I'm not sure there was any question about those swamps he couldn't answer! One thing I'd note: the best seats in the house are definitely the ones near the guide. Also, I'm not sure if this was a fluke or if it's easier to turn the boat in one direction, but every single alligator and racoon "trick" was done on the side of the boat to the guide's right. It's not a big boat, so everyone on there could definitely see, but if you're strategically looking for the best spot for your short little kids, I would choose the seats at the back of the boat that face forward (behind the guide) or get as close to the guide as you can (and possibly aim for his right). Perhaps the most amazing thing we saw on the tour was not all the alligators, but all the people INNERTUBING on the river right next to them! I guess those guys snap up enough marshmallows every day to leave the legs of little seven year olds swimming in the water alone. Cute little gift shop - reasonably priced souvenirs. Cash only for everything.

Nina B.

Yelp
Took this tour reluctantly on the advice of friends. So very glad we did! Capt Kyle was our guide and was very knowledgeable. The Pearl River is interesting and the swamp areas, even more so. There is a peaceful beauty to the area. Lots of trees, plants, and animals. Capt Kyle was very good at finding gators, racoons, snakes, and birds. I have never been a fan of gators or snakes, but there is something special about seeing them in the wild. We got lots of photos and even more memories. Would highly recommend going on this tour!

Sarah B.

Yelp
The swamp tour was fantastic and the guide incredibly knowledgeable. This was the third swamp tour I've been on and definitely the best.

Jacque G.

Yelp
Hi, thanks for the ride.Everyone loved it and we had an amazing time.Say hi to Louie Armstrong for me. See you later,Sebastian

JC S.

Yelp
This is an amazing swamp, and our guide, Chris, was knowledgeable and helpful. He did a great job answering questions and responding to the group. We saw lots of birds, learned about apple snails and other invasive species, and saw raccoons, alligators, and even a feral hog. The cypress and tupelo trees are spectacular. This would be a five star tour if the tour guides didn't feed the wildlife. I would much rather see wildlife at a distance or not at all than to have guides throw marshmallows to attract wildlife- which is just poor practice and anyone really interested in wildlife and conservation knows that this is bad for the animals' welfare. Please consider not making this standard practice on your tours!

Amy R.

Yelp
I always enjoy coming here! Informative and fun.....always see plenty of animals...always learn something new!

Rosalind V.

Yelp
Nice tour! Beautiful setting. Saw lots and lots of alligators! Trees sweeping over the water was so picturesque. Guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Learned a lot about local area outside of New Orleans from the driver on the way there too!

Kati C.

Yelp
This boat ride was awesome ! Our tour guide was like crocodile Dundee . Very friendly and knowledgeable. We saw lots of raccoons in the water swimming . They got fed marshmallows even the gators worked for em .. I'd recommend.

Donna P.

Yelp
We had a BLAST!! Captain Hunter was a ton of fun. Very informative without boring everyone on the boat! 2 hours was perfect amount of time - great value for the $!! Captain Hunter recommended Jazzy Pete's for frog legs (we took him up on the recommendation and were very glad we did!)

Erin J.

Yelp
Such a fun tour. Best tour around, I'd imagine. Our tour guide, Mark, was so much fun and so educational. We did a full two hour tour and it was awesome. We saw tons of gators, raccoon, birds and turtles. We had moments of floating in the water while mark talked and some moments of going 30 mph. The boats are pretty big; about 20 of us. About 45 minutes NE of NOLA! Super easy to find in the outskirts of the city of Slidell!

Anthony D.

Yelp
Amazing tour and a MUST DO if you're in Louisiaba. You'll get to see the swampland with all the vegetation and critters of the bayou. Honey island gets my vote for best swamp tour as (for a small price) provide round trip transportation to hotels in the French Quarter! Their drivers have an intricate knowledge of the area and other points of interest that isn't easily found elsewhere. As for the tour itself, the different animals you see can be seasonal, but we were able to see almost 10 alligators and a handful of turtles, raccoons, and various birds in late May. You also get to see the vegetation of Louisiana with commentary from the funny and knowledgeable guide. Overall I loved the experience and would definitely do again!

Kelly B.

Yelp
A friend of mine recommended we do this tour. We made a reservation and they told us to bring cash which we forgot, so we ran over to an ATM down the road. The tour was to leave at 4:30pm but we loaded up and left the dock by 4:15pm. Our guide was good. He was informative and knowledgeable but joked a lot, so when he said a "fact", I wasn't sure if he was joking or serious. The wildlife we saw included a couple turtles, a few snakes, birds and alligators, plenty of gators. We got back to the dock by 5:40pm. Umm...I thought this was a 2 hour tour. No one else spoke up so I didn't either. While everyone was tipping our guide, I did not because I didn't get a full tour.

Msv D.

Yelp
This Swamp Tour was the highlight of our trip to NOLA. We took the 11:30am tour and it began as scheduled. The young man who was our guide today was very impressive. He shared throughout the tour the kind of wildlife that inhabit the area, their proclivities; diet and behaviors. The swamp was beautiful, serene, and our guide talked about the trees, plants, and flowers that grow in the area. He was so polite, professional and answered all of my questions. We enjoyed the tour very, very much. Thank you so much. VDC

Hayley B.

Yelp
Honey island was great!! Lengthy tour for the price, saw lots of wildlife. Captain hunter was super friendly and informative.

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Great tour! Educational, friendly, safe, we really enjoyed it. If it's chilly bring a jacket, it gets cold! Almost lost my hat as it flew off as we went fast and another guest caught it. Definitely recommend this company. The guide was respectful discussing indigenous people and clearly loves the area. Cash only.

Jordan W.

Yelp
This was an incredible experience! The team was so friendly and so good at their job. We had Kyle for a tour guide and he was awesome! So knowledgeable, a true local with all the interesting info. I expected to see a "few" animals but I lost count! We saw so many gators and up CLOSE! we also saw many raccoons that were adorable, and snakes! The swamp itself was beautiful there were moments that just looked magical. And the family team back at the gift shop were the kindest people. We love Shelly! She really went above and beyond for us, thank you Shelly. I couldn't have enjoyed it more. Highly recommend this tour over any other!

Trisha W.

Yelp
The top reasons why I chose Honey Island Swamp Tours: #1. The protection of alligators. I appreciate that Honey Island Swamp Tours don't pass around baby alligators, I think that is humane of them. All the other tours have baby gators being passed around and it's actually quite cruel to the animals as it begets potential animal abuse and mistreatment. #2. They offer pick up and drop off to the hotel. They were right on time and smooth. Easy pick up and drop off. We got lucky and only had two stops our hotel and one other. Lol those were the reasons why I chose them. Now the list of why they get five stars well I'll do my best to summarize. #1. Easy nicely run business. Pretty straightforward and everything from booking down to payment was easy and streamlined. #2. We were able to go into these more narrow areas because of this style boat. It was very intimate and adventurous. While at first I was torn because this wasn't a fan boat, that quickly faded away once you see just how fast this boat is. Benefit of this boat is that it is smaller and can fit into the deeper parts of the swamp instead of just the main road. #3. Our guide, Hunter, was a pro. He was entertaining, educational, professional, and fun. Very knowledgeable. I enjoyed all his jokes. Oh and to anyone giving a low review and saying this is all rehearsed - seriously get a life. Newsflash: everything is rehearsed and practiced it's how you get good at something. You don't goto a Broadway show and say omg that was so rehearsed and fake. No, buddy this is the same concept yes hunter and all the guides are rehearsed and they've got a cache of jokes and facts that they share, I'd be angry if it wasn't rehearsed and if it was poorly executed. So ignore all the ignorant reviewers saying this ain't authentic because it's rehearsed. Lol I guarantee you those same haters aren't angry at the chef or bartender who practices and rehearses how to make a special cocktail or dish perfectly, so quit it dude. #4. Facility and car service was clean, functional, and had character to it. Only a 40 minutes more or less to or from the city. Clean bathrooms provided for men and women. Plenty of soap and paper towels. Well taken care of and ready for people to use! Appreciate it. #5. Reasonably priced. CASH ONLY. I think it was $104 for two people (includes tax and pick up and drop off), plus $30 in tips between the guide and the driver for two people. Overall I would go on honey island swamp tour again in a heartbeat. A lot of locals missing out not checking out the swamp tour. If I lived in NoLa I'd take a date on a swamp tour. It's fun! We saw plenty of alligators, raccoons, snakes, homes (don't worry this is actually really cool lol), and beautiful vegetation. We didn't see any wild hogs unfortunately but it was still such a fun experience. Highly recommend. Oh and supposedly a bunch of celebrities have been on this tour, there were pics on the bathroom door that I totally missed. Honestly I don't care about celebrities but just a fun thing to mention.

Jody M.

Yelp
Nathan our driver was absolutely amazing and gave us some really cool facts about NOLA. Roy our captain was nothing short of spectacular!!!! We had such a blast and will definitely be back!

Kristen T.

Yelp
If you are looking for a tour to take kids on, this is the one! We brought two young kids on from a suggestion from an an online forum. We had a blast! When we got there and checked in, they showed the kids an alligator from the window. Then we headed out and it was enough to keep the kids occupied and engaged during the ride! Would recommend to anyone, especially those with kids!

Kim L.

Yelp
This was the highlight of our Mississippi and Louisiana vacation. We saw so many alligators and wildlife. The tour guide was funny and informative. Would highly recommend.

Emily D.

Yelp
We had such an amazing time on our tour today! Some members of our group were a few minutes late and they were so kind about holding the boat for us!

Mamatha '.

Yelp
Sonny was our captain and we loved him. The man knows so much and is funny to boot!!m This swamp is beautiful btw. I would come here every weekend if I lived here.

Amaya R.

Yelp
Captain Kyle was amazing! We toured the swamp and gain lots of knowledge. We even went deep into the swamp where other captains weren't comfortable going and had a great time. 100 out of 10 recommended.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Amazing time and just awesome over all experience. The kids had a Blast and learned something along the way. Definitely returning when we are back in the area. Staff was amazing

Amanda K.

Yelp
This is such a fun tour. I did this many moons ago but on a recent trip, I was going with a couple of people who had never been to New Orleans so I wanted to do this again. It is $54 if you want to get picked up from the hotel (which we did since we didn't rent a car). The van picks you up at your hotel and holds about 15 people so about 3-4 other groups depending. Our driver was very nice and told us a lot about the areas and bridges on the way out. Once there, they have a little gift shop which I did buy a cute book for a friend's kid. The tour itself was so much fun and educational. We saw gators, raccoons, a dead snake, birds and turtles. We also learned that one area of the swamp they took us to was the basis of Princess and the Frog which I thought was really interesting! Also was very eye opening to see the home along the river that can only get in and out by boat! The tour on the boat took a couple of hours and with the van ride of 45 min back and forth, you should plan at least half a day. We were picked up at 12:30 p.m. and got back about 5 p.m. - just in time for dinner!

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
One of the best attractions! Plan for this on your trip to New Orleans. it is worth the time and it is an outstanding value. Captain Roy is amazing-he spotted alligators in the thick bushes while flying down the river! He would throw the boat in reverse so we could get a closer look. He is also respectful to the residents of Indian Village. The guides are very knowledgeable about the wildlife and ecosystem of the Pearl River and the bayou, as well as the history of the area. It was entertaining-he has a great sense of humor, and it is truly educational and relevant.

John M.

Yelp
This is an amazing adventure. Seeing the wide life and the river village and million dollar homes backed up to the river. The history lessons you get. The wishing trees and the Disney tour were all great. Seeing all the alligators in various sizes and learning how to measure them from their about to their head to determine length was amazing to know. Learning about the trees and other wildlife and greenery was also amazing. Oh, did I tell you how amazing this was.

Maddie S.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing. The tour was great, the information was fabulous; the price was great and the gift shop was perfect! Our family really really enjoyed our time on the swamp tour. We got to see alligators, hogs, raccoons, birds, and learn all about the area of Honey Island and the surrounding swamps and wildlife. If you're in the area: I would highly suggest picking this tour. We brought our 2 year old and 7 year old who both LOVED it. Their favorite part was watching the guide feed the alligators marshmallows. Go check out the swamps and support this business.

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Such an authentic awesome experience. Captain Ron was funny and educational during our tour. We saw gators, turtles, raccoons, and all sorts of birds. The tour length was perfect. Not too long but still not short that left you wanting more. The price is just right. They even gave a military discount which was super cool. Totally recommend this tour to anyone.

Victor J.

Yelp
This was WELL worth the money!!! Inexpensive and SUPER COOL! our guide was cool and there were tons of gators. If you're thinking about it don't. Go see em!

Kelly M.

Yelp
Do it! It's a bit expensive, but they pick you up in the French Quarter, drive you out to the tour site, give a great tour, and drive you back. Whole thing was well organized and easy to do. People were nice, guide was funny and knowledgeable, and your was a reasonable value over all. Would highly recommend to anyone who has not been out on the bayou before.

Kim M.

Yelp
We had the best tour with Mark! He was very knowledgeable of the area, and we saw raccoons, snakes, hogs, turtles, a variety of birds and a few 5-7ft alligators :) This was a great way to start our vacation in LA!

Priscilla W.

Yelp
Who knew alligators like marshmallows?? Not me... (until today) Had a great experience with Captain Rob, he was great! Very knowledgeable and fun! I would definitely recommend this tour. I felt safe and the kiddos had a great time.

Christian A.

Yelp
I must say, the overall service for this tour was great. Loved that we were picked up directly from our Hotel (Ace Hotel New Orleans) and driven to the location. The driver shared a lot of stories regarding the floods and Katrina. A van with just four passengers. Once we arrived, the registration process was quick and we were off to tour the swamps. The tour guide was informative and engaging. Absolutely worth checking out if you visit NOLA.

Clay A.

Yelp
These guys were awesome! Super knowledgeable, kind, and efficient. Our group consisted of our four kids (girl(18), boy(15), boy(15), girl(12), my wife and I ... everyone LOVED the entire tour. Lots of wildlife and history. I recommend Honey Island Swamp Tour for anyone. Thank you!

Anna E.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing tour. I would imagine that any swamp tour is fascinating and cool, but the knowledge that our tour guide, Chris, had was amazing. He answered every single question, was accommodating, and fostered participation. I was probably the only one on the boat who wanted to pull off to see raccoons (for a second time) and he pulled off. Honey Island Swamp Tours gets a 5 star from me - even when it was POURING and chilly. The alligators weren't even really moving but Chris made up for it 100% with the knowledge and fun environment.

Heather M.

Yelp
I loved this tour. My sister who moved to New Orleans a few years ago recommended this and it was a blast! We had captain Chris and he was amazing. We walled away with great pictures and a better understanding of Louisiana's ecosystem and culture. Highly recommend!

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Captain Hunter was a great guide. He had native knowledge of the Pearl River and comprehensive information about the flora and fauna, and local history. Our trip was super fun - we saw and learned a lot without ever being bored. Even the highly critical nine-year-old in our group loved everything. We saw dozens of alligators and a bunch of feral pigs (swimming!) up close, a diamondback water snake, many slider turtles and great blue herons, squirrels, lots of campsites and homes, and even Bigfoot. Captain Hunter was very engaging, took us to some especially gorgeous spots in the cypress swamp, and was compassionate and efficient in helping a passenger with motion sickness. On top of that, Honey Island had nice, clean, air conditioned facilities, and the covered boat felt safe and comfortable.

Larry P.

Yelp
I have been on other local swamp tours but by far the Honey Island Swamp Tour far exceed the other tours. The guide (Capt Hunter) was outstanding and very knowledgeable. He provided so much details and we encountered a large number of alligators and different animals from raccoons and feral pigs. Outstanding tour and will definitely take more people on this tour when they come to visit.
