Highlights

Honeyville specializes in Rocky Mountain Wildflower Honey. 100% of our honey comes from hand picked family beekeepers in the Rocky Mountain Region. Honey is available in "gently strained", raw, whipped and is in an assortment of jams, jellies and sauces all produced at our Durango Colorado Store in the same fashion it has been since we opened in 1918.

"Off the side of U.S. Route 550, north of Durango, Colorado, lies a monument to all things apicultural. On the porch sits a large stuffed bear reminiscent of many Western establishments lounges on a bench. Inside, a wide array of honey products line the shelves, ranging from food items to ointments to alcohol. A beehive in a glass case encourages you to find the queen amidst her teams of workers. This is Honeyville, a family business that began over a century ago. Honeyville found its start in California in 1918, when the Mayer family decided to start a honey retail business. They soon made their way to Colorado, where they joined forces with Vernon Culhane, a local beekeeper. He would bring his honey south to downtown Durango and sell it directly from his truck into the containers of his eager customers. This earned him the moniker “The Falfa Honey Man” after the small community of Falfa where he lived. One of his biggest customers was the Mayer family, who had now moved to the present location north of Durango. Culhane, who loved honey so much he brought a hive with him during his military service, kept trying to find innovative new ways to use honey. He soon incorporated honey into jams and jellies, and created Honeyville’s signature Cinnamon Whipped Honey. In 1986, Culhane’s son and daughter-in-law acquired Honeyville from the Mayers and began selling their products directly through Honeyville. These days, Honeyville’s store has outgrown its own production, and sells bee-produced products from all over the Rockies. The Culhanes still make sure all the honey is produced at high altitude. They also keep expanding their range of products. In 2014, Vernon’s grandson Kevin began his own on-site whiskey distillery, Honey House, the first legal distillery in the county since Prohibition. Indeed, no matter what you’re looking for, Honeyville is probably trying to find a way to make it out of honey. Know Before You Go Honeyville is a prominent landmark on the side of US Route 550, and is open year-round." - mikewalker, breaingram

Google
I purchased a bottle of strawberry honey wine made in Palisade Colorado, two bear shaped squeeze bottles, a mason jar of raw honey, small container of bee hive, honey sticks, bee hive shaped dipper, and a free catalog. The associates were friendly, answered my questions, warm hospitality, and offered wide spectrum of honey products. If your in the beautiful country of southwestern Colorado, and you would like try exceptional raw honey from the rocky mountains, and have a little time to take a short scenic drive 9 minutes north of Durango, I would recommend Honeyville.

Google
Tastes like sunshine in a jar. The beekeeper himself often tends the shop, explaining how different flower sources affect flavor. Their raw, unfiltered honey cured my seasonal allergies better than medication. Watch them extract fresh honeycomb on weekends - kids go wild for the samples. 10/10 quality!

Google
If you love honey, this place is a must visit. The staff were all super nice and helpful. The prices are actually great. There are free samples of their products like honey, and whipped honey. They sell a variety of bee and honey related gifts, as well as liquor.

Google
This is one of our favorite places to stop whenever we are in Durango. I love that you are able to taste a sample before you buy the product. The store has something for everyone. The staff is always nice and willing to help. I never leave there empty-handed!

Google
Great shot. Many things to choose from. The staff were amazing. We bought different honey, jelly, and oils. Will definitely order more for delivery.

Whitney Sears

Google
We stopped here during our vacation in Colorado and bought a couple different whipped honeys. They are absolutely delicious! Wish we lived a little closer to Honeyville. :)

John A

Google
Drove from Texas to Colorado, and saw Honeyville on a "must-do" video on places to visit. I was excited to go as I love honey more than the average person, and the location was everything I was hoping for! So many flavors of honey, and amazing people there! I got the apple cinnamon honey and the jar was empty in 1 week! I'll definitely be buying more jars next time!

Google
Honeyville was such a fun stop on our visit to Durango! The store itself was so cute and had so many things to browse and sample. We were able to see bees in action, as well as get a glimpse into their production facilities through the viewing window. We left Honeyville with some delicious Colorado honey and some honey toasted peanuts, and were very happy with our purchases. I would recommend a visit to Honeyville if you are in the area!

D L.

Yelp
This is a must stop in your journey to and from Durango. Get out of the car, stretch your legs and go sample flavored whipped honey, jam and wine. Theres a cute gift shop that sells anything with a bee on it, a small instructional area on how bees make honey. You can tell this is a family owned business. They take pride in serving customers! They ship honey. This location is their factory. The shop is not just a tourist stop as I saw many locals coming in to pick up their favorite cinnamon honey. We brought home lemon honey, apple cinnamon honey (oh my) and bumble berry jam.

Liz F.

Yelp
This is a great stop for not only honey, but other things like some honey alcohol products, puzzles, whipped honey and other fun stuff. See the live bee hive picture below. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I bought 3 whipped honey butters and they gave me a box to carry them. The store is very casual and inviting. Cool for folks of all ages.

Theresa N.

Yelp
What can I say, it's a honey store. Lots of honey related products and touristy things like magnets and coffee, wine. My daughter just moved here and loves their honey. The wine is dessert wine which I personally do not care for but you might like it ! it's a nice outing and is a very good view too for photo opps. The service was very good. Tried the whipped honey and wines, and everyone there was so so nice. Give it a try!

Sally B.

Yelp
DEFINITELY DO NOT order the "whipped honey" during warmer months. It completely liquefies and changes taste and color during shipping. At least that is what Jamie in customer service stated. Her attitude was very flippant, stating, "It's just a jar of honey!" Disappointing.

Heidi W.

Yelp
Cute place that is everything honey!! You can find lots of versions from raw to flavored and whipped honey. They have tasting so you can see what you like best before buying. They also had some sweet wines to buy and taste. Lots of honey related gifts and things to look at, like the glass walled hive where you can see the busy bees. Friendly staff and good prices make this a good stop if your coming through!

Břöœķ Ķ.

Yelp
Love this place! On your way up to Purgatory I love to stop here. The kids enjoy looking at the bees and the gift store is great! Go check them out! Friendly customer service, sometimes they have samples. There is jam, honey, candy, liquor, and many other options available.

Courtney K.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Lovely concept, beautiful store, quality honey-based products but unwelcoming employees. My husband and I had heard a lot of positive buzz about Honeyville and their Cinnamon Whipped Honey so we were so excited when we made it back down the mountain from Ouray in time to pop in the store. We knew they were closing in about 13 minutes and we knew exactly what we wanted so we planned to grab our jar and make a bee-line for the register. But when we entered the store we were "greeted" by the Queen B who gave us the death stare. Clearly she didn't like us walking in 13 minutes before closing time! But sometimes people are just having a bad day so I smiled and said hello. And moments later when we were checking out I smiled at her again but the scowls continued. Wow. Anyway, we left with our Cinnamon Whipped Honey and walked out about 4:50pm. Another customer was walking in and I almost thought I should warn him that it stings in there. Ha. Anyway, we're glad to have secured our honey and to have snapped a few pictures of this lovely store but we were very disappointed with the icy reception.

Elise C.

Yelp
This was a highlight of our visit to Durango! The shop is cozy and filled with so many different honey-related items. There's even a live hive inside, which is intriguing to watch for a few minutes. We bought a few things. The price was reasonable for the specialty level and location. Definitely somewhere we will stop again!

Joanne F.

Yelp
Stopped by Honeyville while in Durango. Nice store. They have samples of almost everything from their honey, jams & wine! Everything we tried were delicious. We ended up getting couple of jams. Our favorite was the caramel honey jam/spread. Sooo good! We were traveling by plane so at first we were concerned that they won't get passed through security (TSA liquid rules). So we inquired about post office but the employee told us that they can ship for us for a fee I think it was $8 or free shipping on orders $75 & up. Let me tell you they packaged it so well and arrived to Dallas so quickly! They shipped through UPS. Bought from the store Monday afternoon. By Wednesday they've arrived and we were still in Durango lol! Great customer service and everything's delicious. Definitely a place to visit while in Durango.

Abbey K.

Yelp
Terrible customer service! After two bad experiences, I'm done with supporting this local business.

Maggie P.

Yelp
I received yet another order from my favorite honey store. Unfortunately the jars were crushed beyond belief. Normally all come very well packed for shipping. I don't know what happened

Andrea M.

Yelp
Wow! I stopped into Honeyville's gift shop from a trek from Durango to Silverton and stocked up on Christmas presents for family, the prices are un"bee"table. Pun intended. They have EVERYTHING you can think of from alcohol, whipped honey, soap and a variety of flavored jams and spreads. Its a must-see if visiting in the area.

Kristin H.

Yelp
What a fun place to visit when in Durango. Tasted their wines and honey. They have something to offer anyone visiting. Our grandson loved watching the bees in their hive.

Todd R.

Yelp
Omg this place is a must stop. It is like stepping into a small country store but staff are not as friendly. Staff do need to understand they don't have a thing without customers. They have a beehive inside, you can taste liquor made from honey. The whiskey is the bomb. I like the place just need to have better customer service and lots of people stop here and I would think management wants them to buy.

Amber H.

Yelp
Great place! Fun atmosphere. We got some delish honey products and got to taste basically every product! Whiskeys, wines, and honey infused everything.

John F.

Yelp
We first heard about Honeyville from friends who visited here and let us taste the delicious honey products they purchased, and so we ordered some product online to be shipped to our home. After that, we knew we had to visit if we were ever in the area. Fast-forward a few years, and here we were, driving from Durango to Ouray, and so we stopped in. We loved our visit, as the moderately sized store is chock full of delicious honey products, offers a beautiful view of a part of the distillery equipment, harbors a clean and inviting environment, and provides friendly staff, who will allow you to sample just about any honey-based item they sell. We tasted several and picked up jars of bourbon vanilla honey, cinnamon honey, lemon honey, peach honey, and some honey-based BBQ sauce--and grabbed three small honey candies for good measure. It's a really fun stop on your way up or down the Million Dollar Highway, so don't miss it if anyone in your party is a fan of honey. By the way, there are shops in the area that also carry Honeyville's products, so if you drive on and later wish you would have purchased a certain flavor, you can pick up a jar at certain shops in either Durango or Ouray; otherwise, you can order online. Delicious!

David K.

Yelp
Found this place when we were driving north of Durango. They make a lot of their stuff in house. They make honey butter, sauces, alcohol and of course honey. What great selection of things. Friendly staff. They have bees flying all around.

Liss C.

Yelp
Listen here Honey! You have to stop here two times at least!!! Once on your way into Purgatory to taste and buy all the amazing Honey Bourbon, wine and mustards and then again on your way home because you realized you didn't buy enough! I mean honey- let's face it this place is hands down one of the best places I have visited in 2021. Here's why - not only is everything so good- you get to taste EVERYTHING in the store before you buy it - full bar tasting once you show your ID, full mustard, syrup, butter and candy tasting. This place was superb- they take pride in being sure you like and enjoy what you are buying before you buy. Make a date night out if it for that matter and end it buying your favorite bottles you chose!

Donald R.

Yelp
If you are in Durango, do not skip out on a chance to visit. Their honey whiskey is the bomb! Wish I would have got more than one bottle!

Kristy S.

Yelp
We've visited Honeyville three times while on vacation near Durango in the past 6 months and it's always one of the highlights of the trip! You can view the factory where they bottle the honey inside the gift-shop, and try to find the queen bee in a viewable live bee hive. You can sample TONS of products from spreads to wines to hard liquor (highly recommend the honey cinnamon whiskey!) and you won't be disappointed. Everything is DELICIOUS!! The whipped peach honey spread is a family favorite. The kids love picking out flavored honey sticks as souvenirs from our trips, too. Definitely worth stopping at for souvenirs or gifts!

Walter C.

Yelp
Cool! A pretty nifty place that can quickly separate you from your money. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My spousal unit was not overly interested in the gift baskets they had so they let her pick out what she wanted in a basket and they wrapped it for her. There are many interesting foods there to buy. As well as there are sampling tables to taste test the various honey's.

Irina V.

Yelp
Honeyville is a place to buy some of those honey treats you've always been wanting to. Here you can find raw honey, honey based jam, and whipped honey all of which you can try in the taste tasting space. You can also taste some wine but if you want some alcoholic products which they make here there is an area inside for those to be purchased. You can also observe a bee hive and try to spot the queen bee. Through a glass you can see how there products are filled. We got a inside look and were able to see how the machinery operated and got to see the brewery.

Lacey D.

Yelp
What a cute store! There is a huge variety of products- body products, honeys, sauces, jellies, alcohol, home goods and so much more. The employees were incredibly friendly, and they offered tasting of whatever we wanted in the store. I definitely recommend a visit!

David B.

Yelp
The management resolved the issued I previously had by replacing the discolored honey with a fresh jar of raw honey, and it tastes great! Thanks guys. Considering I bought from a 3ed party retailer who resold Theo products and doesn't offer a return policy, that shows a strong commitment to customer satisfaction. A+! I recommend their pure honey over their flavored honey products.

Jes F.

Yelp
We LOVE grabbing our honey at Honeyville. The honey is delicious and the people are always friendly and helpful. They always have a little treat for my kids too!

Treena C.

Yelp
We visited Honeyville this summer when we were vacationing in Durango. It is a cute stop along the highway with a full parking because so many people know about this place. Inside you will fine a variety of fun items- all honey related of course. They have everything from hand lotion to glasses to obviously honey. They even have honey hand lotion that is in the shape of a honeycomb. They offer tastings of their flavored honey so you can try before you buy. I love their whipped honey and even that comes in different flavors. My favorite is lemon. They also have tastings of honey flavored alcohol near the back of the store. A group of us spent about 45 minutes looking around and trying samples. I was especially impressed when I ran out of honey a month ago and ordered a new supply online and it arrived in 4 days. It was wrapped very well and arrived in perfect condition. Don't forget the honeycomb- it is perfect for a charcuterie board.

Angi C.

Yelp
Very cool place to stop. You can sample all types of liquors made with honey (bourbon with honey-yum!), wines made with honey, and various honeys (flavored, whipped, raw, etc.). I purchased a "Christmas" honey with clove, cinnamon, nutmeg infused- can't wait to use it in my tea. My kids liked seeing the hive full of bees all working to make honey. You can also view the factory and distillery. This would be a great place to pick up gifts- numerous gift baskets. Service was outstanding as well. Highly recommend!

Mandy L.

Yelp
While I love the theme and the history of Honeyville, I wish the execution were a little more wholesome feeling and not just a "tourist trap". I went in honestly wanting to hear about their distillery, their process, and taste their product. But I felt like I was just a tourist with a ton of products being thrown at me. While they let me taste all of their spirits - they knew absolutely nothing about their production and just asked what I wanted to buy...

chelsea c.

Yelp
My husband and I absolutely LOVED our shopping experience at HONEYVILLE! Lori gave us samples of every item we wanted to try, including honey whiskey, whipped cinnamon honey, choke-cherry jam, honey hot sauce & honey caramel. Everything was fantastic! Lori made our experience fun & memorable! This place is perfect for unique & quality gifts for you & yours :)

Glenn G.

Yelp
Great place lots and lots of selections of wonderful jams and honeys, they let you taste all the honey which is awesome. Lots of interesting trinkets and keepsakes. Making making honey for 102 Years Wonderful Pl.. All the wines are too sweet for me.

Kimberly C.

Yelp
I'm shocked how much I enjoyed this place! Thought ok it's a place that you can buy different kinds of honey. True but there's so much more to honeyville. I guess I never thought of all the great things you can make with honey, they have sauces for grilling, syrups for just about anything and pancakes of course. They have a section of wines with honey, and some liquors with honey. Jams jelly's, candles, adorable containers for your honey. Tons of gift ideas. I have to confess I love to try specialty bath soaps so I purchased a few here that sound great, one was honey/oatmeal and the other was a mango coconut. As I stood in the window of watching the honey teddies being filled, I was pretty impressed with the entire place and friendly, knowledgeable staff that work there. I only travel this was a few times a year, so I stocked up and will definitely be back.

Laura M.

Yelp
Yes. Roadside honey, I am always in. This place was so cool. Tons of honey infused items, pretty large shop. Everything looks new and really cute. My girls enjoyed watching the bees while I shopped. Best of show were the liquors. We bought all we tasted and got a huge vat of honey. The honey itself has a very flowery, light flavor. So delicious!

Laura M.

Yelp
Cute shop. Disappointed that we weren't welcomed or greeted when we walked in. Seems to be the typical Durango area thing. Browsed on our own, had to ask, but tasted a few samples. They were nice! I was most excited about the wine though. I wasn't invited to sample it and didn't know if I could but bought a bottle with excitement and confidence in mind only to be bummed out big time. The honey wine is no good! Wish I would have stepped up and asked for a sample before I spent the money.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Great gifts, huge selection of honey and sauces, lotions, and a distillery! You can get plenty for others and yourself for the kitchen, and everything you didn't know you needed.

Jan R.

Yelp
So we are back in Durango from CA and sorry to say that there is a definite lack of customer service. I was not greeted nor offered a single sample while I was there. I wandered around for a good 15 minutes and seemed to be invisible to the staff. I remember loving their products before and was getting ready to spend some serious money there but the lack of friendliness left a sad impression for me. I bought two things and left.

Michaela S.

Yelp
Honeyville is such a cute place with a lot of history. There were really nice workers who helped us find the queen bee and explained to us how the bee and honey process works! Honeyville is celebrating their 100 year anniversary! One worker told me they have only had two owners :) cute place with good prices I bought a ton of honey candies and post cards, also they gave me a free sticker!

Brandy W.

Yelp
What's not to love? We were first intrigued by this place as we drove up and back to the ski resort. We were spending a week at Purgatory and always enjoy a good locals favorite. We stopped in as they boasted a "behind a glass case" bee habitat. It was pretty small and really nothing more than you typically see at a museum/nature center. I was expecting something huge! You can see their production line, which is really cool. My one disappointment was that they didn't have the same squeeze containers that we tried at Gazpacho's downtown Durango. That's where we first tried their honey on sopapillas and were in love... and then we had to settle for the traditional bear look. I much preferred that skinny squeeze bottle to keep on my kitchen table... just wish I could find it. I even checked the grocery store and they don't carry it either. Lucky Gazpacho's!

Jenny B.

Yelp
Not really An experience, but more of a simple shop. Good honey products, but it's just a simple store.

Xerxes S.

Yelp
Leave your money at home or you'll leave it all here! :-) I was fortunate enough to meet Alex here yesterday on our first trip. Total professional, full of knowledge, friendly and easy going. I was here with limited knowledge of the uses for honey, although I have hives at home. The young lady I worked with today was awesome, but there was a large crowd so we had little chance to chat. I would be curious to hear what she knows with her degree knowledge in bee management. The strawberry honey wine was a must have after I tasted it and I rarely drink alcohol. I ended up needing another cart and still went back today for some more goodies. Honestly, I am going back because I need to get some unique gifts for friends. I have to also add that they follow the Colorado COVID mask law and allow the exceptions contained therein. I was turned away from some establishments in Durango but Honeyville does not practice discrimination against those with medical disabilities. If you find yourself in the area or even close by, I recommend stopping by. I can't imagine that anyone would be able to leave here empty handed! :-)

Dominique M.

Yelp
Delicious honey and jams with samples galore! Artisan honeys for days. All "whipped" so they are very light, smooth, and melt in your mouth. Just divine!!!! I'm a bit of a traditionalist so my favorite was the natural whipped honey, but cinnamon was a close second. $6.95 for a big jar, $3.75 for a mini jar. The jams were "just like grandma's" and very flavorful. I picked up the strawberry rhubarb and raspberry ($6.25 for a big jar). Overall, this is a super cute stop on your way up or down the mountain on the side of Highway 550. Makes great gifts! P.S. They also have honey distilled liquor and honey-based wines to sample too! Sadly I came in the morning so I wasn't exactly feeling up to drinks. Le sigh...

Mari C.

Yelp
This store is amazing! It's a must do in Durango, it has honey galore, little gifts for everyone, delicious rum and whisky , all made with honey. We went crazy with how wonderful it was! One stop shop... and you can taste test the alcohol and honey, what else do you want ?

R.N. K.

Yelp
If you like all things honey, plan for a lengthy stop here! Flavors, sauces, spreads, combinations, liquors, wines, abound with honey infused. All fresh made by the busy bees onsite.

Riza H. C.

Yelp
Honeyville, how I heart you? My heart skipped a bit, when I received my first catalog from Honeyville. Was fortunate to find Honeyville via the Honey Gal, at the Southwest Farmers Market recently, July 6th 2013 visit. I purchased a jar of Bumbleberry Tripple Berry Whipped Honey which was $9 (11.5 oz) jar at the Farmers Market. Have been using it on Scones, Bagels or just on Toast for Breakfast or Tea in the evening. From the catalog, and now at the Farmers Market, I definitely will make many purchases for my personal consumption and out of town guests alike. Perhaps I should be adventurous enough to use Honeyville products for the BBQ party in the future too. From the Mountain Honey Syrups for your Pancakes, to Chokecherries Jams and Jellies Delight, Colorado Base, Colorado Proud in Durango, Colorado. Thank you Honeyville. I like! @155/2013

Sarah T.

Yelp
Such a cute little honey shop! We were able to taste their mead (honey alcohol), honeys, and the honey bourbon and vodka they're selling. Everything was delicious, and I appreciated being able to sample some of the flavors instead of just guessing. I thought the staff was very friendly, and loved the beehive in the shop. The beehive shaped distillery in the back room was ADORABLE, and the honey prices were excellent. We ended up buying large containers of cherry, chocolate, and plain whipped honey, as well as a reusable silicone teabag and a beeswax lotion bar, and spent just over $40. One note- the bourbon and vodka they're selling are 3rd party at the moment, because they've only just started their own distillery (so theirs is still aging). I look forward to tasting theirs later!

Alyse N.

Yelp
Super cute little store, has lots of different honeys to purchases and they are delicious as well. The people who work here are also very friendly

Victoria S.

Yelp
Honeyville was on our list of place we had to go to. Last time we were traveling through here, they had already closed, we missed it. Not this time and well worth it. We bought everything they had i swear. Spent a ton of money and got a bottle of strawberry honey wine, honey bourbon, whipped honey, cinnamon honey, jellies, and syrups. We also adopted a Honeyville teddy bear for our collection. There is a wall dedicated just for the different honey wines, make sure you sample them. They also have; raw honey, honey combs, honey sticks The ladies that work there are like Seniors and seem to work there just for something to do, really nice ladies, thank you for all your help. This place is a really nice place to stop at. Prices are a little high, but that didn't stop us from buying. Should mention, you can order from their catalog. If we just happen to be passing by, we will defiantly stop.

Raymond S.

Yelp
Very nice store. Great variety of self produced honey items as well as several types of liquor made with honey. Also some other locally made items like seasonings, dried beans, popcorn and gift items as well

Sai A.

Yelp
This place is great for some special types of booze and honey/ jams. They are a nice family owned place that makes everything from their own bees which is pretty cool. I would recommend you check it out if your visiting Durango, you won't regret it

Samantha E.

Yelp
I ordered our wedding favors from Honeyville, and they were a huge hit! Almost a month later, I'm still getting texts from our wedding guests about how much they like the honey. Honeyville was incredibly easy to work with, especially Kim. They sent me a sample jar free of charge so I could try it out. We then ordered many jars, half bumbleberry and half cinnamon. The favor-sized jars are cute and little, plus they're under 4 ounces so wedding guests can still bring them home in a carry-on bag without incurring the wrath of TSA. Jars are under $2.50 each and shipping is reasonable. I haven't been to the actual store, but if you want wedding favors that were made in Colorado, I'd definitely recommend Honeyville.

Daniela P.

Yelp
Honeyville was a cool stop! When I first heard about it from my mom, I thought it was going to be mostly comprised of hives, but they only had one tiny display. With that being said, I found the Queen, and the whole process was very interesting to learn about and see. You can try their whiskeys, wines, and honeys for free, which I thought was awesome! Everything we got was tasty, from the peanut brittle to the honeysticks. I have some in my purse now! A great snack if you're running on low and need a pick-me-up. Everyone was extremely friendly and attentive! The store is organized and clean. They also have bathrooms that are clean, so it makes a good rest stop if you're driving through.
