Honoka Teriyaki Express

I wanted to like this so much based on the reviews and it wasn’t bad, but it did not blow me away. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki with extra chicken and the 3 pc chicken wings. The Chicken wings were okay. They could have been seasoned better. The chicken teriyaki was very fresh with plenty of crisp veggies, but it didn’t taste all that great to me. I probably won’t go back. Needed more flavor.

Great food and great price for veggies and noodles or veggies and rice. The spring rolls were great also. The portion size was beyond my expectation.

The only bad thing about this place is its so close to my work. Before I was able to control myself by being able tell myself I didnt want to drive far. The food is always great and the portions are definitely more than enough. The employees have always been super friendly and take a second to say hello no matter how busy it is. Only place I get chicken teriyaki from.

I got takeout from here. Ordered the chicken with extra meat and yum yum sauce. Probably the best chicken teriyaki in the area and the portion size is great for the price. Got two meals out of it.

I used to pick up orders from Honoka Express when I was a Door Dash driver. There would be seemingly endless orders and though you can’t go inside (Covid times), the delicious aroma of great food just escapes through the slightly opened door before the plastic bags with good order were given to me to deliver. Now that I can choose to seat myself to eat in, service undoubtedly was fast. I ordered the chicken and shrimp bento box to go. I was leery that the take out portion wouldn’t be the same as that of done in; but I needn’t even worry in the first place. When my order number was called, one staff member said he forgot something. He came back to give me a small paper bag that typically is used for packets of sauces or fortune cookie. He placed the paper bag in the plastic carryout bag. When I got home, the order was piled high. I was happily surprised to see that he gave me 3 more dumplings. Thank you for the generosity, dumplings are my favorite! This is true customer service!

The food was amazing and at a very reasonable price. Definitely get more than your moneys worth with the food quality and portion sizes. The atmosphere was definitely welcoming and friendly. Most assuredly coming back.

First time trying this place and I already know that I will be back here again!! I was searching on Google for a restaurant in the area that had shrimp teriyaki and I came across this place. I am very glad that I did!! The food was amazing and the portion sizes were very generous! They have some of the most reasonably priced items compared to other places. I was pleased with the variety of items on the menu! My diet is restricted and I only consume meats like fish, shrimp, and turkey. I have to come back and try the salmon teriyaki!! I ordered shrimp teriyaki and the shrimp tempura rolls. Delicious!! The staff was pretty nice here and the service was very quick (I ordered online for pickup because I didn't have the time to wait). Great spot, great prices, great portions! I will be dining here again!

They have the best chicken teriyaki with vegetables and rice. Everytime I go there's a few people outside waiting on their order's because it's a local Hotspot. They close early; so make sure to place you're order before 7:40 pm or else the phone lines will be busy until close at 8pm. Huge portions but somehow I always manage to finish the entire serving because it's just that good! It's reasonable priced under $9.00 and could easily feed to normal people. Be careful because it's very addictive. You've been warned!

My husband and I stopped here while running errands. The service was excellent. Lovely staff that were very nice. I got the chicken and shrimp teriyaki with white rice. It was absolutely amazing. Perfectly cooked and just the right amount of sauce. My husband got the salmon bento box, which he thoroughly enjoyed everything in it.

Yomi opened down the street from me. I found it on accident and fell in love. I knew that this place was similar in concept. The menu was very similar. They didn't have tofu as an option, so I wouldn't be able to take my vegetarian friends here. The guy who took my order....maybe it just wasn't his day. He wasn't too happy to see me. There was this other lady who helped and she was extremely nice! I ordered the chicken teriyaki with noodles. It was a TON of food. It came out fast too, quicker than a fast food drive thru! It was okay, not nearly as good as Yomi. I felt like I had cheated on one of my favorite places, and it wasn't really worth it. I think I will pass.

The food every time I go in there is excellent. The shrimp is cooked. Perfect. The chicken is cooked. Perfect. The beef is cooked. Perfect even the vegetables. They're nice and crispy and it's just makes you want more. Yum Yum. I would give this place more than five stars if I could. If you love Chinese food as much as I love Chinese food I highly highly highly recommend this restaurant and when I say highly I mean highly. It's one of the best places to get Chinese cuisine. The bad thing about this place is that you have to wait about 25 to 30 minutes to get your order. I'd order online if I were you just to save time. Otherwise it's still a great restaurant to eat at.

Let's just say this place gets busy!! So it requires a little bit of patience. And the wait is worth it in my book. But before I get into that just wanted to say the decore is nice and clean. Plenty of seats for everyone. The service is fast and they make sure to read your order to you making sure it's correct. Okay, so I ordered the "chicken & shrimp" Teriyaki, but have the rice separately. And just look at the pic. They do not skimp on anything. Lol. I Just had a big smile on my face. Plus it tastes so good! I asked for extra sauce cause it's so tasty. I know I will be coming back again to try other dishes!

While I've never eaten inside at this restaurant, they do have great teriyaki food, and I would recommend. Their service has always been amazing when I've went, and the interior is always clean.

Honoka, the little Restaurant with Big Personality!!!!! From the warm greeting when we walked in the door, to the genuinely familial interest of the workstation, I felt like a relative!!! I Felt like I was visiting my southern family,and they got me right!!! I ordered the combo with Chicken, beef and shrimp over cabbage and rice, the portion was so benevolent three people could have enjoyed this meal. We also had the steamed Edamame. The cost was great value for the food served as they did not skimp on one item in that platter. Seasoned perfectly it left my taste buds happy , I even had some for lunch the following day. Honoka, you're one of my new VaBeach Favorites!!!!!!

I got the beef teriyaki and the food was incredible. Didn't take too long to make and place was nice and clean. Also, the wontons are awesome. Don't forget the yum yum sauce!

Stick with the chicken teriyaki, the beef wasn't really great and their California rolls were not good.

Omg the shriimp and beef combo with extra veggies w fried rice is so delish, alot of meat, veggies and rice, veggie and chicken egg rolls dioped in yummy sauce also great... Food never disappoints. My second time ordering delivery from them and they're hands down the best! I ordered the beef teriyaki with noodles and yummy sauce and 12 piece chicken wings. I feel like the proportions are good for the price. The food arrived fresh, hot, and delicious. They're definitely my go to now when I'm craving take out and don't feel like cooking. I still haven't been to the actual restaurant physically but plan to do so soon. My overall rate of experience : 9/10

We wanted a quick stop for dinner and after craving Chinese/Japanese food, came here after reading the reviews. Before even entering the establishment, you can smell the delicious food from outside. Inside, the workers were so busy and hard working getting orders out the door. Even with it being busy, the staff were friendly and ensured to bring our bag of food over to us while we were sitting. I had the shrimp teriyaki with noodles and my boyfriend has the chicken and shrimp teriyaki with fried rice. The portions for the price are impressive. We had enough for leftovers the next day. Also, we got the yumyum sauce which was a perfect touch to the meal. We will absolutely be back again. Thank you!

Was looking for some comfort food when I couldn't leave my hotel. Honka delivered! I love that typical "mall food" teriyaki hibachi and this (like other reviews have said) was just a better version. Meat was pretty good (not quite as questionable as the mall version) and I loved the sauce! I also ordered the sushi (volcano roll) just to see how it would be, and I would not order again. I wasn't totally sure what kind of fish it was, but the sauce on top was ok. My delivery was decently fast & on time according to the web ETA. I ordered directly though Honoka's website and it linked me to my DoorDasher to track.

All the above !!! I've come here for the last 2 years . The staff are amazing and generous. Kaelan and Ms Jenny always make me feel at home!!! The owner is absolutely a genuine soul !!! Helped me when I was down on my luck nothing but awesome things to say !! Not to mention the food is delicious I have recently moved and will travel over an hour to eat here !!!

The service was quick and friendly. My beef and shrimp teriyaki was fresh and delicious. It seems like they still have no seating inside, like in covid days. The tables have created a barrier in the middle of the restaurant. I would have loved to have eaten inside but they don't allow you to. For that reason I had to eat in my car, or else I probably would've given this place 5 stars.

Ordered online pick up chicken teriyaki and chicken egg rolls last night for a quick meal. Great food! Good portions and quick service. Food was ready when came and still hot when I got home. Great option for a tasty filling and when you don't have time to cook.

The combo teriyaki dish; Chicken, Beef & Shrimp with mixed veggies and fried rice is an enjoyable tasting alternative for delivery after a long day at work. I recommend trying Honoka Teriyaki Express!

Sampled some sushi, a bento box and beef teriyaki. Pros: Huge portions at a very reasonable price Cons: there is no way this place deserves nearly 5 stars (yelp rating is currently 4.4). The teriyaki was the main draw (teriyaki express) but the "teriyaki" sauce was a bland and unimpressive version of a standard Chinese cuisine brown sauce. There was nothing "japanese" about the sauce and it was not a "teriyaki" dish. It was far more like eating beef lo mein than beef teriyaki (and we tried both versions of beef teriyaki with rice and noodles). The "mixed vegetables" in the food were primarily the firm/lower parts of leafy veggies (bok choi, probably) with few signs of other types of veggies. Even assessing the food as beef lo mein it was of poor quality; the sauce was bland, watery, and not very good. I would not go here again. Teriyaki Madness, which is not very good either, serves beef teriyaki that at least has the correct "teriyaki" flavors. The sushi portions were large and filling but otherwise not special. The yelp rating built me up to high expectations and this establishment completely failed to deliver.

I've eaten at this place several times. Food is always good and portions sizes great. Imagine going there after a long day at work and ordering what you usually get and get home and there is barely any meat in your tray. And your teen opens their's and it's full. I will still eat there bc the food is good, I just don't want them to start being inconsistent w preparation, so this is my way of bringing it to their attention since I wasn't about to drive all the way back there.

It was really busy, so you probably should order on their app and give it 20-30 minutes. The food was mid at best. The chicken was okay. I think they marinated the meat. It didn't taste like they added sauce to it while it was cooking, Only after it was plated. The vegetables were horrible. Get it without the veggies. They are steamed with no flavor or seasoning. Chicken egg rolls were also pretty bad. TBH, you'd be better off getting mall or buffet teriyaki chicken. Was not worth the wait. They may have been good at one time, but I think they are just too busy to keep up with quality flavor. The only thing they had going was the price and portion seemed reasonable.

One of my favorite places to eat! Lots of delicious food for a great price! There is usually a bit of a long wait if you order there, but call ahead and the wait isn't bad. The staff is always friendly and efficient, as well.

First my love for teriyaki chicken is unreal, I thoroughly enjoy the taste of the teriyaki chicken from Honoka. I was introduced to this place a couple years ago, but I keep forgetting to take a picture of my food before writing a review.... Yes it's that good IMO. You really get a lot of food for the price you pay. I have also tried their shrimp and beef and it's delicious as well. I haven't had a bad experience with the food taste from here, compared to other places that have had bones etc in their food. I always order online so I can just go and pick my food up. The place still has their dining closed since the pandemic isn't over which is respectable and they try their hardest to get all their orders made in a reasonable amount of time. I have only had 1 instance in which I waited nearly an hour after I placed an online order but it only happened once out of the many and I mean MANY times I visited. They sell a variety of items including sushi, for you sushi lovers. Definitely a place worth trying!

So Good best place around hands down. Everything I've had from here is always been good. They're Yum. Yum sauce is the best so make sure you double triple up on that.

Classic Teriyaki meal from Honoka! The rice & chicken for the chicken teriyaki were really tasty! Chicken wasn't over cooked. Comes close the the teriyaki spot that use to be in pembroke mall. I also got the vegetable noodles & sweet potato rolls. The veggie noodles needs more seasoning, but is a good option for vegetarians. Service was ok. They were very busy, so it took a minute for someone to speak to me to get my order.

Was very good. Gave great portion size as well. When you ask for extra sauce, they give you extra sauce. Not stingy at all,

For the first time in a long time I was disappointed. My son came home with the order and I served my seven year old daughter and she told me it was yucky, I then tried it and then I realized why it was yucky because it tasted burnt. I was so disappointed because now I had to figure out something else for her to eat and she really wanted her chicken teriyaki. Hope this doesn't happen again but I'm afraid she's not gonna wanna eat this again.

I've recently discovered Honoka Teriyaki Express, and it was way better than I expected it to be! It's hard to find takeout spots offering quality seafood options. I went for the chicken and shrimp teriyaki, which was packed with shrimp, chicken, rice, and veggies! It reminded me of something you'd get from a mall food court, minus the trip to the mall. They gave me at least 15 extra-large shrimp, which is unheard of for under $15! My biggest issue is that there were a lot of gristly pieces of chicken that were inedible. The rice wasn't great, but I did appreciate that there were soy/duck sauce packets included in the bag without me asking. The veggies were a blend of cabbage and broccoli and had quite a bit of excess water which kind of watered down the flavor. I drained the water and added black pepper and soy sauce which helped to elevate the veggies. Overall, I'd say this place is a hit! I was so impressed by the shrimp that the other issues didn't bother me as much. Next time I'll skip the rice and chicken and order the shrimp teriyaki with all veggies!

This is my first review of Honoka, but I've been eating here for a bit...At least three+ years because I started before COVID in 2020. It has been consistently very clean and the food well-prepared and cooked to order. I always get the Bento Box . I want all the things, so it's a good choice. The portions are substantial for the price. The price is wonderful! And the taste is yummy. I also usually get an egg roll and edamame. I get the beef as my protein choice and fried rice. You can choose your protein and either white or fried rice, or noodles. The ginger dressing is well-made and tasty. The gyoza are crispy and the filling is juicy. The sushi roll is "crab-salad"ish, but tastes good. I don't eat here for the sushi; I eat here for the hibachi. The beef is always prepared well, never dried out or chewy. It is cooked fresh to order. The fried rice is just rice, but I get it fried for the added texture. Get some yum-yum sauce to dip your gyoza and bites of rice in as you eat. Yum yum! The egg roll is fine, always crispy, but could have more filling. I love egg rolls, so I always eat one. Overall, the food and cleanliness is spot on.

Like the mall, this place will serve you up some quick and healthy hibachi oh and sushi. I had the shrimp hibachi and it was plentiful. The sauce on it was ok. I noticed the cook slathered the sauce after the shrimp was cooked in my container. Maybe if he cooked my shrimp in the sauce it would have tasted better. The chicken however was better. So next time I would get that. The veggies were cabbage and cooked perfectly for me. There's a station we're you can add soy sauce and sirachi sauce so that can make anything better!

Best spot especially for lunch! We order this for work all the time. You can make your orders/pay online and do curbside pick up. They give HEAPING portions for their meals. And the food is so good. Most of us portion it out for two/three meals! The fried rice is part of the meal and you just choose your protein. Everything is such a decent price and the food quality is worth it!

The teriyaki beef rice was terrible cause the pieces of beef were fatty and chewy and I spit it out due to the content ! I wouldn't recommend this to my enemies or for a dog to eat. Don't eat this unless you want high cholesterol and high blood pressure!

I kept hearing about this place from friends, telling me how reasonable the prices are, how the portion sizes are great for what you pay, and how delicious and fresh everything tastes. After trying it twice, having the beef and shrimp teriyaki each time, I agree with everything that I was told. The service is quick, efficient, and accurate, even when they've got tickets stacking up. No matter how slammed they are, the woman who runs the cash register (while also cooking and helping the cooks get tickets out) will greet you with a smile and a kind attitude when she hands you your order. The inside is clean and spacious. There are places to sit to eat inside as well as a long row of seats for those who are simply waiting on their take out orders. They have a one person restroom and it is always clean. Worth every penny. I hope this business continues to thrive because it deserves to.

Made an order for pickup today. Food was hot and ready as soon as we got there, it was a quick and easy pickup. Ate the food soon after we got home and it was yummy!! Fam and I loved it, and would definitely order again, especially if they start delivering here again by Landstown commons area.

I wrote a very short review of this place and for that i appologize. The setup is basically what you would see at a mall without the crazy of a mall food court whichmakes it a solid win in my book. The prices are quite affordable and you get nice large portions. The sushi is all made fresh for you when you order as are the sides. Each time we have come here they cook everything as you order and get it out to you quickly to enjoy while it is steamy. The meat is juice and rice is soft. The food, price, and location are going to make it a fast favorite for my hubby and I.

I tried this for the first time and i love it. They give good portions and it's delicious. The staff is very nice and they definitely stay busy. I love the fact that I can have for leftovers and it still tastes the same from when I first received it. I totally recommend!!!

The taste is still good but the integrity of their scoops is less than desired. Especially after their prices have went up. Won't be patronizing again.

Do not order Noodles!!! The noodles they used is spaghetti noodles instead of the chowMein type noodles it is not good at all!!! Do not be fooled

I gave them a shot based on the great Yelp reviews. They might make great Sushi or something but if you have Teriyaki in the business name it should be your specialty and above average in my opinion. The restaurant was clean, neat, and busy. The customer service was professional and efficient. I ordered Beef Teriyaki with fried rice and my wife ordered the same thing with noodles. We also ordered spring rolls. The beef was tender and perfectly cooked. The vegetables were cooked just right. The portions of rice and noodles was large but the beef was reasonable but not in proportion to the rice and noodles but nothing to complain about. I requested extra sauce for both orders and I think they didn't read my request. The beef, vegetables, and noodles were very bland and had very little teriyaki flavor. Something was missing. My wife looked at me and said it is cooked well but it doesn't have much flavor. I was like wow I was thinking the same thing but I picked it so I wasn't going say anything lol. In their defense they were busy. There were at least 6 orders waiting for be picked up and 3-4 people in line to order. The attention to detail wasn't there. I got spring rolls with no duck or sweet and sour sauce! Maybe they forgot to put teriyaki sauce on my order too lol. My last complaint is on the online take out menu doesn't include Sushi or other entree descriptions (what's in it?). Everything was cooked so well I would give them another shot. Everyone has an off day.

This was my first time eating here. Its a new business, so the decor and building are very modern and clean. Its easy to order your food. The customer service was great! I was greeted with a smile and they were helpful in explaining the menu items.. I got 2 Combos, chicken wings, a tempura california roll, and 2 drinks for about $40. The portions of the teriyaki combos is huge. I was able to feed 3 people off one combo. The food was good, but it could be more flavorful. Some sort of seasoning would go a long way. Other than that, i had a good experience and would eat there again!!!

I stopped by this place to try their sushi. I made the mistake of eating inside. It was HORRIBLY SMOKEY inside. It was worse every time they prepared another meal on the stove top. I coughed and dealt with it, but I left smelling stinky and so did my clothes. I highly recommend getting the food to go and waiting outside. The air filtration was not up to the smoke that came off the grill, it looked big and shiny and appeared to suck up smoke, but the inside was yucky smelling and not good for people sensitive to smoke. The staff was really nice and the place was clean. I found the more involved rolls a bit cheaper than other places, but the plainer rolls were more expensive. I can get a tuna or salmon roll for $4 versus their $5.99. The salmon and tuna rolls I did have were average and well made, nothing standout though. The tempura California roll had cream cheese in it for some reason and I didn't like it at all, this might be someone's favorite roll though. The miso soup was average but the seaweed salad was bit dry or old. They prepared quite a few orders while I ate and kept a brisk pace. Wisely, no one ate inside. This place is located in Kemps River where blockbuster used to be in the same strip as Jimmy John's. You can turn in off kempsville or by Arby's from Fordham loop.
