This is a fabulous little market, and the deli is even more fabulous! This is truly THE BEST BLT in the world!! Also, the Greek sandwich was packed full of flavor and tasted authentic. We were in Greece just a few weeks ago and it rivaled some of our favorites there. We highly recommend this as a lunch stop. Ashley (the owner) is so nice and helpful too!

Google
The sandwiches are insanely good! Soooo good and the staff is so sweet! Fresh bread and the bacon is perfect (love crispy bacon).

We were a group of 16- including 12 teenagers with a wide variety of likes (and dislikes). I called Ashley in the morning to see if we could pick up a large order at a certain time that afternoon, and she was incredibly helpful. Not only was she able to make sure that all sandwich requests were honored, but she clearly labeled each sandwich box by (student) name so that we didn't need to remember what we ordered! She was able to accommodate vegetarian and gluten-free needs. She even called me to let me know that she needed to sub out arugula on some sandwiches! I would HIGHLY recommend Honoka'a Country Market, and if I am ever back in the area I will for sure be back. A must go!

Google
I went to this place since it has been the only one available on a Monday evening. Turns out, this little diner offers amazing sandwiches and tasty smoothies! I had a juicy Greek sandwich and a mango smoothie. With every sandwich you can choose from a variety of chips, too.

You absolutely must stop at this market! The food is phenomenal and the family that runs it is so lovely. They offer a bunch of local products from produce, awesome looking cuts of grass fed meats, kombucha, beers and cocktail drinks from Hawaii, locally made soaps, and a nice selection of market items. The food counter serves soup and deli sandwiches that are seriously bomb! We tried the new Ham and Cheese which was literally the best ham I’ve ever had, not to mention the gooey cheddar, onion crisps and caramelized onions with the lilikoi BBQ being the perfect topping combination. The highlight for me was probably the homemade Poi bun that it came on, perfect texture with a slight sweetness. We also tried the plain Poi roll which I wish I had a dozen more of. They’re topped with sea salt and don’t even need butter they have such a good flavor. The service was top notch, friendly, local, and family run. The market vibe is fun, welcoming, and accommodating. I would go out of my way to drive back here to try some more of the food options. The sandwich portions are huge. It was jam packed with meat and flavor. Seriously do yourself a favor and do not pass this place up !

Google
Family owned and operated. The best quality meats and hot sandwiches you can find on the island. The steakhouse sandwich is life-changing!! Their house Tri tip is the best I’ve had even comparing it to the most high-end prestige steakhouses on the mainland. I went back the next day …it was that impressive, added bacon and tomatoes to the steakhouse sandwich this round… again… Best sandwich I’ve ever had!! I think it’s a combination of the freshly baked bread and the house made local meat. I’m not a big sandwich person and this totally blew my mind. This is definitely by far a gem and I hope to visit every time I’m on the island. They have local kombucha also. I

Stopped here for lunch and it was amazing. What a great place for high quality food. Sandwich was huge with focaccia fresh out of the oven, quiche was delicious, fruit was getting delivered from the farm so got some of that too and it was wonderful. Great stop, highly recommended.

Google
Love the BLT here, but they are extremely hard to get ahold of, and the service really lacks. Was put on hold for over 15 minutes and no one came back to take my phone order. And if you go in person you can’t be in a hurry because it’s at least a 20-40 minute wait for a sandwich.

Yelp
Solid sandwiches. I had the Tri-tip sandwich and it was delicious. Well done! The sandwich comes with a pack of chips.

Howard L.

Yelp
Not much food on the shelves, but plenty of drinks, pop, beer and wine, limited liquor. The main draw is becoming their sandwich's. I've had 2 plus the breakfast burrito, which was delicious. Turkey club and Reuben are very large portions and very tasty. Check it out

Yelp
Amazing and huge sandwiches! It took forever to make them, and they were out of the smoothie ingredients. The little store was pretty well picked through, but there were still a few local items for purchase. I wish I was staying nearby, because the meat in the coolers looked amazing!
google avatar

Joseph K.

Yelp
Awesome food and service. Had the Reuben and it was fantastic. Wife had the Turkey club and she loved it.

Yelp
Looking for a place to eat before or after the Waipio Valley lookout? Our family recommends the delicious sandwiches from the Honokaa Country Market. Whether there's a line or not, definitely worth the wait! Delicious, generous portions, and really really good! We had the Beef Tri-tip and the BLT. Dec 2023

Yelp
The sandwich I had here was delicious! The fresh focaccia bread was so good! Would 100% recommend for a quick bite when passing through. Many different local beers as well.

Yelp
Today is our last day of our trip and we came back for the amazing sandwiches. No sandwiches today... Japanese pop up!!! I had amazing teriyaki chicken and an avocado/Mac salad. The chicken was flavorful and tender, the salad was delicious, perfect amount of food. My husband had a sliced fresh ahi and ono combo... melted in his mouth. What a wonderful surprise. Strongly recommend a trip here for a meal or two.

Lola R.

Yelp
Honokaa country market is the place to stop! A great beer selection, very good sandwiches, breakfast food, smoothies, and a spectacular meat selection. The family who runs the place is awesome and you will not regret stopping here. GET THE TACOS ON TACO TUESDAY!!! There are tables outside to sit on and a couch inside if it's chilly while you wait for your food.

Ruth R.

Yelp
Great coffee and awesome breakfast sandwich. Wonderful locals who were so kind and helpful. Don't miss it!!

Yelp
Great stop in Honakaa. Sandwiches are AMAZING. New owners are working to make it even better + were super friendly when we stopped. Make sure you get a quiche!
google avatar

Ineza S.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place! We had the BLT and a turkey sandwich - both were delicious, and the coffee was excellent. Everyone is very welcoming and will find time to make conversation. We will be back next time we are in the area.

Mackenzie L.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! So delicious and freshly made. Definitely worth a stop if you like sandwiches, soup, or breakfast!

Yelp
My favorite Sammy spot!!! Club on sourdough is my absolute go to. If you're passing Honokaa, grab your malasadas at Tex then your sandwich at Honokaa Country Market... you're welcome lol :)

Dianne H.

Yelp
Several times when I stopped by for lunch. There were there was no soup no smoothies and another time. No eating utensils. I've noticed that the tables outside are not as clean as they used to be with the prior owner. It's just so different now. Before there was a line of people waiting to order because everything was so good. It's different now.

Yelp
Nice spot! Quiche was delicious after a morning of hiking. Staff was very nice and incredibly quick! Loved the peaceful town around too!

Dawn D.

Yelp
Super nice owner, cute selection of foods and such great service. I was able to pick up some fresh, local bread and the owner was also able to sell me garlic herbed butter that she just whipped up while I waited. Love all of the Hawaii local items

Susan M.

Yelp
That was an amazing turkey club, possibly one of the best sandwich i have ever had!! Too bad I don't live here.
google avatar

Emunah E.

Yelp
Fantastic BLT! It came on a thinly spiced perfected toasted locally-made bread. Just the right amount of crispy thick cut bacon. I also appreciated generous amount of arugula so that it's perfectly balanced and almost feels healthy . The market does pre-orders for Costco which is kinda cool because the only one on the island is over an hour drive!

Tracy S.

Yelp
This place is truly a gem. We got sandwiches for lunch and they were incredible. Staff was so friendly and they have a great selection of local foods.

Jack R.

Yelp
I had the Ruben and it was very good. The wait was short and the service was very friendly! They also showed me some local hard cider to try.

Rick J.

Yelp
Great family run market with reasonable prices and good sandwiches. The breakfast burritos are solid.

Yelp
Does Michelin give stars to delicatessens? From fried shrimp po'boiiiiiies in New Orleans to Peking duck in Hong Kong to the FRESHEST sushi in Japan, I am confident that I've got the 411 on great eats. Full stop, bishes. And I can say that this lil' market serves up the best bloody focaccia-heeled sammies this side of London Paris and Milan. Let's be honest: The food on this island is...abysmal*. But this little scrumptious slice of nirvana, in THE MOST adorable historical town evah', is not to be missed. Oi! I said NOT TO BE MISSED. *Exceptions: Sushi Sam, Shiono (not the sushi on Ali'i but the ramen in the Industrial District), La Bourgogne, Merriman's and Tacos Rosa.

Yelp
GREAT food and fresh deli sandwiches, soups and also an excellent stopping spot on the way to Waipio Valley.

Yelp

Yelp
They've been closed for weeks. I wish they'd put a note on the door. I want some soup and hope every is ok after the storm

Lauren F.

Yelp
Turkey club sandwich was very good, we ordered it on the jalapeño bread which was delicious!
google avatar

Marina D.

Yelp
Love the country market. I love their soup specials--they have a good mix of classic and ethnic soups and their deli sandwiches, daily quiches, smoothies (toddler-approved), and weekly specials are always fun. They also have a rotating kombucha on tap--I think this weeks was a calamansi-geranium and it was so yummy. The staff is always attentive despite almost always being busy, too. Since I live in the area, I'm lucky to get there at least three times a week. Thanks to the staff and all for everything you do!

Yelp
The Tri Tip sandwich was hands down the best sandwich I've had in multiple lifetimes!! I am not exaggerating. After the first bite my taste buds had experienced something far and away better than they had ever before!! Amazing spot! I want to drive up from Puna now all the time!
google avatar

Susan C.

Yelp
Lots of vegetarian and organic options for such a small store. Really nice people and lots of options for lunch take out in hurry. Quicker than Malama Market and fresher food

Michael C.

Yelp
Best sandwich I've had in some time! Carmelo see onions on a ham sandwich?!?!? Amazing! Great prices too, especially for Hawaii
google avatar

Yelp
Kate (Owner) was working solo today and delivering aloha spirit and generosity at its best! Mahalo for the delicious meat pies and Tri-tip sandwich and chips! Till next time Honoka'a Country market....

Cheryl P.

Yelp
I recently caught the dreaded flu or covid or whatever you want to call it and was VERY sick!!. As I was getting my appetite back my dear friend Cathy Ferrari sent over 2 large soups, a quiche, poi ball bread, and I was blown away with how delicious it all was. Now that I'm healed I am starting to buy lots of food from there. I had NO idea it was soooo ONO Delicious, Healthy, close by, and what a great place to share with our visitors, I can't thank you enough for such a SPECIAL Place to eat!!!! Mahalo C Pascual

Anne D.

Yelp
FYI the location on the map is wrong! You have to drive into Honokaa and go past the usps as if you were going to waipio. Then it's on your left. This map confused me so hard. And the are only open m-f till 5pm. I am so thankful for this market. They sell lots of things you could get at Costco. Random produce, eggs, meet, drinks and more.
google avatar

Alison H.

Yelp
My absolute favorite place in Honoka'a for lunch. They have different quiches and soup everyday and great sandwiches and adult beverages and booch. Love them
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
If you're in the neighborhood, this is a must. Best cuisine and ultra clean market. Everything is OG and ridiculously delicious.

Alison C.

Yelp
Friday meat pie day. Map is very wrong, go past USPS store a few blocks to Waipio. That's ask I have to say!

Yelp
Honokaa Country Market is the old JJ's Country Market that was bought by Roseanne Barr's daughter and a friend who co-own it. They sell all the same Big Island grassfed beef we knew and loved from JJs, but added lots of fresh produce and other locally grown and made products to the mix. Check them out! They are adding more and more stuff by the week!

Yelp
I was sitting at the airport and struck up a conversation with a lady and her son. I told her how I wished Hawaii was more self sustainable when it comes to food, especially meat. I explained that it was difficult to find and purchase meat from one of the biggest known ranch on the island. She then suggested I try J.J.'s and stated that it was grass fed beef grown on the island, prepared, and freshly sold. I was so excited, to find grass fed beef locally and double happy, since she said that the price of the meats were reasonable. So the next day we drove to Honokaa, which was about a 32 mile drive from Waikaloa. We enjoyed the drive and the beauty of the picturesque country along the way. I even thought about how wonderful it would be to retire in the Kamuela region and start a farm. Since it's many years away, I quickly put those thoughts to rest. We arrived in good time and as we pulled into the parking lot, which was empty. I knew we were going to be disappointed. Yes, I was right, they were closed on Sunday's and Monday's. My heart sank, we drove this far only to be greeted by a closed sign? Argh! As the saying goes, when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade and that's exactly what we did. We drove to Hilo for the day, which was another great place to visit. Anyway, getting back to my review of this place. We ended up coming back the next day and were relieved to find it open. They had a refrigerator filled with fresh grass fed meat. I really felt like I hit the jackpot, when this place was first mentioned to me. We ended up buying oxtails, porterhouse, chuck roast, T-bone steaks. We walked out paying about $40.00 for our grass fed beef. Yes, that's right, local grass fed beef. Wow! We cooked up a steak for dinner and it was juicy and tender and how I wish I had bought more. However we just had a medium cooler, so we couldn't buy as much as we wanted. I already mentioned to my husband that we'll need a bigger cooler the next time we are up here and he quickly agreed that we'll be back. I am so thankful that this place was recommended to me, all by striking up a little conversation while waiting to board. Oh, what a treasure of a place this is. So if you want local fresh beef, this is the place! if you want to save some money and support local and at the same time fill your belly with some tasty meat, this place is it. I can't wait to come back!

Laverne P.

Yelp
The best ever in Honokaa Town for great healthy homemade soups, sandwiches, handmade quiches, and meat pies, and don't forget poi rolls, and yummy cookies. Walking into the country store puts a on your face and the SMELL Of the cooking going on with Katie and Jenny no words can describe. One word of advice, be there before noon,or call in your order. You will not be disappointed! Mahalo Honokaa Country Store for making me Happy . Laverne Paulos Ernest Alfonso Jr

Yelp
Quality food and they try to carry as many organic products as possible. Employees are most helpful and pleasant. My favorite market in Honoka'a.
google avatar

AK P.

Yelp
The old JJ's is now the Honoka'a Country Market. Locals and Tourists, stop on by, you won't be disappointed by the prices and selection. I wasn't. The gals have such a unique selection. I have gotten everything from Meat, local eggs and german beer, to packable hammocks and turkish bath towels here! They just keep getting better and better, stop on by....you'll be glad you did!
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
A gem in Honoka'a! I went twice the first day I went... loved it that much. It sells Big Island Beef (rumor has it that it's the best price on the island!) and delicious meat pies on Fridays only. I also got a Turkish towel for under $20... unheard of! There are sandwiches, good wine selection, local jewelry, and gourmet choices in honey, kombucha, and other Big Island picks. Don't miss stopping here when you're in town.

Chris M.

Yelp
Delicious homemade food, soups, cold beers, dog bones, and fresh produce. Lots more local goodies to get as well with super fair prices. Love this place! Highly recommend stopping in before or after a Waipio day!

J F.

Yelp
the absolute best soup and sandwiches on island it's gonna be sad when they close ... no where makes sandwiches like this place
google avatar

Rose C.

Yelp
A sweet old fashioned general store. The sell excellent local organic greens, herbs, veggies, and farm eggs. Local goat cheese, duck eggs, and of course grass fed beef. Also small decent wine selection, beer, and liquor. They have well chosen camping essentials and fun stuff, like hammocks, inflatable 'wind couches', organic bug spray, reef safe sunscreen etc. They also have some unique banana varieties and other exotic fruit. Closed sun and mon!
