Honokeana Cove is a great place to stay in Maui for those looking for something a bit more low-key and relaxed. I booked this for a last minute business trip and could not have been happier. We were in unit 104 which featured the normal Hawaiian kitsch which gives you that island feel. The place was clean but a bit dated, which was completely acceptable for the great price we received. Everything seemed to work well, including the wifi and the television/cable. This unit did have a nice new smart tv which was nice.
One of the huge pluses of this place is the located right on the water. So many other condo units that are "ocean front" still leave you hundreds of yards from the water. This place is as close as you can get. About 20 paces and your on the easy access stairway to snorkeling heaven. We saw no less than 20 turtles over a few days. The amount of reef fish were also amazing and included the Humumu (Hawaiian State Fish) and various other types of reef trigger fish, butterfly fish, parrot fish, many colors of trumpetfish, needlefish, tangs, wrasse, and some deeper free dives in the middle and entrance portions of the cove allowed us to great sightings of larger jacks, larger cornetfish, and a huge school of barracuda!
We were in Maui the last week of February and the weather was great. Warmer days and nice breezes at night that cooled off the condo. Our unit did have some snorkeling gear but I would recommend either to bring your own, stop at Costco for a deal on a kit, or rent.
We found that most of the other people staying at the Cove were regular visitors, with many staying a month of the year for several decades. Everyone was very friendly and quick to recommend a local place to eat or check out.
The location is easy to access Ka'anapali, Lahaina, Napili, Kapalua, and the famous Honolua Bay.
