I haven't been to a zoo in eons. This zoo has great exhibits with big animals like tigers, elephants, giraffes, a warthog, gibbons monkeys, huge tortoise and hippos! Very impressed with the reptile and bird exhibits! Wow, very cool. Plenty of shady spots to sit and rest. To the right of the entrance/gift shop and across from flamingos there's a purified refillable water fountain and bathroom. Several clean bathrooms scattered throughout the zoo. Gorgeous trees and 🌺 flowers. The parking lot has kiosks for paying - $1.50/hr. Three hours was the perfect amount of time to walk the entire zoo without rushing.

This is an excellent option for a family weekend. The zoo is well-maintained, and although some areas are currently under renovation, it did not impact our visit. I particularly appreciated the children’s playground, the communal gathering spaces, and the many opportunities to connect with nature and enjoy quality family time. The on-site gift shop is charming, and there are several food options available. I highly recommend bringing your own water, sunscreen, and a hat for comfort. We were fortunate to witness the zookeeper feeding the sloth at 2 p.m. and enjoyed learning more about the rhino family during our visit.

It’s beautiful like the rest of Oahu and awesome to see a variety of animals (gibbons, tortoise, snakes, elephants, giraffes, etc). We went in the morning and the gibbons were active. But unfortunately most of the other animals were still asleep or hiding from view so we didn’t see much. It was so hot that we ended up leaving early and didn’t see the rest. It’s a great zoo for the price. Parking was easy to find at $1.50 an hour.

My kids are 14 and 10 years old, and they haven't been to a zoo in years. This time, they were eager to visit, so we decided to go. The line for entry was quite long, but waiting for about 20 minutes was worth it. We really enjoyed our visit. The zoo has a variety of animals, including elephants, lions, tigers, hippos, exotic birds, and large lizards. My kids particularly enjoyed petting the goats. Two hours would be sufficient for a visit if you don't spend too much time reading all the information panels. I also noticed some cute local lizards throughout the zoo; I found them adorable.

Google
Fun zoo. Not crowed the day we went. We learned a lot that day. Ever wonder what happens if you try to bring unapproved species to Hawaii? Well, they are confiscated, and the zoo takes very good care of them. Plus, you can still go visit your beloved pet (currently snakes and birds). Peacocks are not picky about what they eat. If you sit down for lunch and are not paying attention, a Peacock will take your burger or pizza or fries or onion rings, etc. We had to be so careful.

Google
Nice zoo! I like that we came in last hour. They close the door 1 hour before closing. We paid cash easy $20. And zipped through most of the exhibits. Many exotic birds, lions and tigers and giraffes still out. Sadly elephants were away.

Google
Very small but very nice zoo. My two children enjoyed it very much and there was lots to see. Tickets were not very expensive and it was kind of short but sweet it was right across the street from the beach where we walked right after. Very clean and very nice zoo

Google
This is a zoo in the heart of Waikiki, easily walkable from most hotels. The exhibits were set up well with one easy path to follow along. The animals seemed well cared for and there was a good spread of different types of animals. This is a family friendly location and fairly inexpensive ($21 per adult). It was not busy on a Monday at opening time (10am). Note: the wild male peacock can be aggressive so take caution when they approach you.

Yelp
I hadn't been to the zoo in almost 10 years, and not that much has changed. It's still a nice place to go with family, if you have young children. We took my granddaughter here after lunch so she could burn off energy, and it bright back a lot of memories when I used to come here with my daughter, and when I used to come here with my parents as a kid, back in the 60's. It has definitely undergone several renovations over the years, and there were several still underway, with a some of the exhibits closed. Seeing the large Banyan tree in the center brought back memories of sitting under it with family, having lunch and then swinging on the vines. The cost is still reasonable, for Kama'aina, although a senior discount would be nice (lol). It was fun, and we'd come back again, though maybe not in the middle of summer.

Yelp
Honestly, it's a nice place to spend some family time. So if you ever have to relieve yourself to settle in house stress or tension within the home... GET TO THE ZOO! You will see more of nature that is well needed, you'll get some sun exposure. And you'll leave with MORE THOUGHTS than you ever had. Is it good or is it bad? Well that's totally up to YOU! Our family had. A nice time because we did have the little one with us. It was also because it was his bday. So, we actually did well to make his day special! I'm happy we all survived the whole day too! We made it before lunch, but, they did cancel a few feeding sessions. A couple exhibits was closed. AND they up the time for the petting zoo and closed it early, so no one had a chance to do the petting zoo. So yeah... it was a bit drab but we did get to see other animals that the little one liked. That was the main point for us! I'm not too sure if tickets are worth for visitors tho. It's accessible online to see the prices. And always check for their updates on the events. But they do have some event in the evenings on Saturdays. Maybe it's something worth trying. I don't know ‍ But, overall for us... WE HAD A GOOD DAY & IMMA RATE A 4 because it's what my family and I totally NEEDED, SERIOUSLY! hehehe we needed to get out into nature with animals! I think it did us some good!

Yelp
Zoo is ok, not a fantastic woohoo! Lots of closed viewing areas, much overgrown paddocks areas. Fun for kids and a nice breaks if you have too much beach time in. Go later in the day. We went near noon and all the animals hiding from heat. We went 10 years ago and grounds were much nicer. Not much employee interaction Not responsive to a hi good morning. But it's a big city.

Yelp
The zoo opens a bit later, around 10am. There was a short line to enter. The zoo was ok. We did get to see many animals. A lot of animals. The chimps and monkeys were crazy and loud. They were loud. Not too many stands or refreshments areas that were open at the time we went. It started getting quite hot, so we left. Also, apply some bug spray!! We got bitten by some kind of bugs or mosquitos while in the zoo.

Yelp
I recently went to Oahu and while there got a chance to visit the Honolulu Zoo. For being just on the outskirts of the city, it was a fun couple hours. There were quite a few animals to see, and enough to do to where you got a chance to have a nice half day of enjoyment. The prices were fine as far as I can tell, nothing overwhelmed me. There was a few quick informative shows or not really shows, but where they fed some animals and talked about them and their habitats while interacting with them. It really was just a peaceful stroll through the park while checking out lots of different wildlife.

Yelp
Seeking a fun activity within walking distance of our hotel, we happily spent a couple hours here. It is $21 per adult which is a reasonable price for a zoo this size. Upon entry, I was under the impression that the zoo would be tiny, but it actually housed many more exhibits than I anticipated. We first walked through the bird habitats since they were closest to the entrance. I particularly admired the toucan, kookaburra, Nēnē and of course the endemic Hawaiian Owl. Nearby, the two sloths were awake and hanging from the branches. One of them was hard to spot since he was camouflaged within the trees, but a kind zookeeper passing by pointed him out to guests. The zoo was very clean with clear paved pathways. There is a cafe and a large children's play area which a ton of kids seemed to enjoy. Unfortunately, a few of the exhibits were closed at the time, including the aviary, goat habitat and chimp enclosure. On top of that, many of the animals were hiding in their dens and couldn't be seen, such as the aardvark, sunbear, fox and porcupine. I don't blame the animals for wanting some privacy or needing some shade, but it was a little disappointing to miss out on seeing so many of them. In addition to the sloths, my favorites were the active gibbon monkeys, elephants and the giant tortoise. It was pretty peaceful walking through this zoo as it was not busy... totally opposite of the San Diego Zoo, for example. In fact, there were many times where we were the only ones at an exhibit. Needless to say, I appreciated the more laid back vibe. You can't go wrong with a visit to the zoo! All you need is your hat, water, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes.

Yelp
It was at the end of the day, but all the animals were way more active than I remember. The lions were noisy and the giraffe came really close. It was pretty interesting. I do wish they redid the bathrooms. They are pretty gross. The food at the stand is good, but it didn't have a working soft serve machine.

Yelp
Sorry but I have to give this place a 2. PARKING: Can you guys make the parking area just for the zoo? Or at least half? It's so hard to get parking here since it is a public parking lot for everyone. We went on a Sunday around 1130-12. Sad to say but practically all or most of the animals weren't even out or if so they were sleeping. The only ones we got to see moving around was the elephants, giraffes & the petting zoo area. They also had a lot of renovation area that were closed. Should definitely recommend a time to come because it's a waste to come here if we can't see much of the animals. Definitely bring your own food & drinks. over priced inside & not worth it. I do like the playground area for the kids. General admission: Adults $21 13 y/o & up Children $13 3-12 y/o Kama'aina/Military Adults $10 Children $6 2 y/o & younger FREE

Yelp
This is a great place for the whole family. Best time to go is the morning before the sun gets too hot!!! It seems to me the animals are the most active in the morning or on cooler days. The playground is a hit with Th the kids as well. If you live here I would say, get a membership. It is a great deal! And this way you can keep coming back!

Yelp
I like this zoo. The fact that Hawaii even has a zoo is already a great thing because there isn't much land available especially in Waikiki! It's not huge which might not be a bad idea because it wouldn't be overwhelming. If you visit everything, it can probably be done in 2-3 hours. If you live here and have kids, it's worth to get the membership because it's very affordable and the zoo has a playground where kids can go get some outdoor time, given there aren't many nice and safe playgrounds in urban Honolulu. The restaurant also serves some delicious and hot chicken strips, surprisingly. The zoo grounds aren't big but there are a lot of animals packed in the small space, given these animals aren't huge ones. I do wish the elephants and rhinos can get more roaming space though, but it doesn't seem like they aren't happy, at least to my non-zoologist perspective. I like how they had a lot of different terrariums for reptiles. They even have axolotls and an albino snake! i also enjoy sitting on the bench eating and waiting for the kookaburras to laugh. There are quite a number of different birds caged in the zoo, but don't forget to look around for the also equally beautiful wild birds living in Hawaii! I also enjoy the free-roaming peacock as the zoo resident by the playground, usually running after kids' fallen crumbs on the ground. Parking is at the adjacent paid lot, $1.50 per hour. If you pay with a cc, you can enter your phone number and have the option to extend your parking when they send you a text as your parking is close to expiration, which makes it very convenient if you wanna stay longer! However paying with cash would not have that option. Some machines look like they don't work with a black screen, but it might just need you to push some buttons and some patience to activate. Parking during weekends can be crazy and it's better to go there before the zoo opens to a secure parking spot. Don't forget to bring a hat, sunscreen and mosquito repellent. I got a few bites at the playground before. :-/

Yelp
This place is huge! I loved seeing all the different kinds of trees *bonus points if you spot the sausage tree*. All the animals were out and the only thing we weren't able to see were the chimps. I recommend bringing a water bottle and comfortable shoes! With two kids, it took us about 3 hours to see everything as we took plenty breaks.
google avatar

Brittney S.

Yelp
The zoo was so beautiful. I would recommend if you have time to check the zoo out with your family and friends. It's a nice date spot for you and your partner to enjoy the walk while seeing animals. I loved it so much! They also have a big gift shop!

Yelp
Went to the Honolulu zoo, it was 11 am, the animals were few and far between. Saw only a few. Many were not visible. Nice small zoo. But disappointing. I can only offer a few stars. Staff at the entrance was nice since she didn't charge for my child. May be a good zoo when the animals are visible.

Yelp
My apologies in my lateness of posting my review. My family had come to Hawaii for a visit and I had met them at the zoo for the day. We had a blast! The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. There are so many things to see and you can tell that the animals are well cared for. This is a great place for families both local and tourists to come hang out for the day.
google avatar

Keahi L.

Yelp
Great recent experience here! Lots of animals to see, cool enclosures, great souvenirs offered. Food and drinks available for purchase. Family friendly, weather permitting. Only $10 for Kama'aina. Perfect for your day in Waikiki!

Yelp
We had a nice time at the zoo and we were not expecting anything elaborate. This zoo is small and there were not a lot of animals to see at the time we went (they were either gone or hiding). It was cool to see all the turtles and koi throughout just a little tougher to see the other animals. The price was a little high for it but there were other things for the little ones to do.
google avatar

Yelp
This zoo is deceptively larger than it looks. The outside may not look like much, but it looks great on the inside. They have a private commercial lot ($1.50/hour) available to park. There is also metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance as well. If you plan on getting there when they open, also plan on waiting. People start lining up to get in about 20 minutes before the zoo is opening. The line moved pretty well, but still took me about 10 to 15 minutes to get in. The zoo is designed in a circular layout and has just about every animal you would want in a zoo. There are lions, and tigers and bears. You will also find hungry, hungry hippos, giraffes, spider monkeys, komodo dragons, zebras, alligators, turtles, foxes, meerkats, rhinos, owls, tortoise, elephants, iguana, lizards, aardvark, cheetahs, lemurs, chimpanzees, orangoutangs, sloth, warthogs, flamingos, salamanders, storks, tucans, vultures, parrots, and an assortment of birds. The zoo is well laid out, but had a few exhibits closed due to construction during my visit. I really like the arrow signs lists the distance of major zoos that are most near to the Honolulu Zoo, with the closest being the San Diego Zoo at 2511 miles. The zoo has a playground area that has a large play structure with a canopy, bridge, and slide. There is also a small play structure with a canopy and a slide and a giant net climber. You will find benches along the playground paremeter for caregivers to sit and watch their littles. You will find the playground by the Cafe and lion exhibit. The cafe, Kapahulu Market, is small and has outdoor seating. You can order ahead if you like and just pick up. They serve burgers chicken tenders, salads and pizza. There is also an educational area called the Keiki (kids) Zoo, that looks like a farm and has farm animals such as geese, guinea pigs, lizards, turtles, pigs, goats, cow, llama and horse. You will also find a large koi pond in this area and and animal wash. It is billed as a place for kids to climb, touch, smell and experience. I only saw about three restroom areas and one water fountain at the park. I highly recommend bringing you own water bottle with you because it gets really hot here. The water here is way over priced at $6 per bottle. The zoo has picnic areas and green space to sit, eat and enjoy. I do wish they would have had more interactive exhibits and offered animal talks and experience like feed the giraffes or hug a sloth. Of course the zoo has a gift shop. You will find it at the entrance/exit. They have shirts, stuffed animals, toys, pencils, post cards magnets, hats, and much more. The stuff in there is a a bit over priced if you ask me though. The zoo is well maintained and landscaped and the staff there was friendly. There is a lot you see and do I spent about 2 hours there and you could easily spend a half day or so. I recommend checking out this place when you are in Waikiki and want a change of pace from the beach and shopping.

Yelp
Impressed by the location of the Honolulu Zoo. This is conveniently located for tourists, easy to get too, near a beach, hotels and shops. If you're visiting with family (specifically kids) this should be on your list of things to do. Reasonably priced at $21 for anyone 13+ and $13 for kids 3-12. There is a .80 service fee for paying with a card. We were able to get through the entire zoo in about two hours. However, you could easily spend an entire day hanging out at the park, having lunch and just hanging out. If you're not going to spend the day there and not staying near by, plan to go to the beach afterwards.

Yelp
I took my 3 year old here on our last trip and it was pretty fun. There are a lot of animals here and we could actually find them in the exhibit. I enjoyed the elephants the most and the little one liked the primates. There is a pretty nice playground here that was full of little kids. I found it funny that it was next to the tiger, who was walking around watching the children running around. This was within walking distance of my hotel, which is great for avoiding parking hassles and traffic. I recommend coming right at opening before the weather gets too hot.

Shawnee M.

Yelp
There's lots of parking which is great. Walking here is lots of fun and you get lots of exercise in. The bathrooms were clean too. Lots of excellent.

Yelp
OK Zoo. Last time I went was during COVID and there were lots of exhibits closed. This time, there were still many exhibits closed which included the aviary -- due to a baby bird, goat petting zoo, and many exhibits under construction. On top of that, it is hard to get good pictures because of the fencing. The flora is nice around the zoo though, plenty of tropical plants and the turtles are quite active. Hopefully next trip there will be no construction nor closed exhibits.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday and as I expected the parking was a bit crowded. I also came on the worst time of day, lunch time. The zoo parking lot is paid parking, with a few pay machines throughout the parking lot. Using the pay machine is super easy, just enter your license plate # & the # of hours you wish to stay. I always paid by CC & I use the text feature to remind me when my time is almost up. You can through text choose to extend your time as well for $1.50/hr. For the zoo admission I thought it was reasonably priced for residents. $10 for adults, $6 for 2yr + and under 2yr is free. So for me, my mother, sister and 4 kids (2 under 2) it was $42. I like that the zoo allows you to bring in your own food, but they do have a "food court" located by the playground outside of the Keiki Zoo. The zoo opened at 10am and offers those buggy strollers for rent, but you can use your own or bring in a wagon because it is a lot of walking for those with little ones. They had those spray mist fans for purchase at $16.99, I passed on that. Overall, my kids enjoyed the zoo looking at all the animals. Some enclosures were closed, but we were able to see the majority of the animals. If possible don't come between 12pm-2pm it is so hot and most of the animals go to hide from the sun so it took us a minute at each space to find the animal. If you have little ones, definitely stop by the keiki zoo and play ground. The keiki zoo had more animals that were easier for the kids to see and at certain times it's a petting zoo. The playground is big with 3 separate play areas under the nice shade of some huge trees. Great place to picnic while the kids play.

Yelp
This is a zoo in the heart of Waikiki, easily walkable from most hotels. The exhibits were set up well with one easy path to follow along. The animals seemed well cared for and there was a good spread of different types of animals. This is a family friendly location and fairly inexpensive ($21 per adult). It was not busy on a Monday at opening time (10am). Note: the wild male peacock can be aggressive so take caution when they approach you.

Yelp
Not a long line ! Alot of fun with the kids loven it . Close to everything . Nothing like moment in natural with some awesome widlife.

Yelp
So-so zoo, but hot, depressing, and empty. We came here after checking out of hotel before heading to airport on our final day. It was within bus distance and something to kill time. First, this zoo was kind of not really a zoo. Lots of space between exhibits and lots of exhibits with animals not to be found. The cages seem designed poorly so that sunlight hits the only area where people can see the animals. Most animals were hidden in the shade which was not visible for people. Bathrooms also look in the need of an upgrade as well as the eating areas. Only highlight was seeing the elephants eat up close although they looked miserable too from the heat.

Yelp
Very fun zoo!!! It was a beautiful weekend day when I went but it wasn't too crowded. They have a lot of animals to look at and they also have feeding times when you can come and watch and learn more about the animals. There's also a garden, cafe, and a petting zoo (though it was closed when I was there). Honestly, everything about it was beautiful and it was just awesome to be there. I spent a good 2-3 hours walking around the whole area and reading the info provided for each of the exhibits. Definitely come here if you're in the area!!!

S J.

Yelp
We were gifted annual passes and have a 21 month old toddler. Pros: beautiful trees with shade and paths for kids to walk along Cool monkey enclosures- you can get a good look at the monkeys playing around. Not very crowded the 3 times we went Cons: where are all the animals?! We've gone 3 times now and half of the exhibits are empty. No zebras, lions, etc. in 3 visits we've seen monkeys, elephants, rhinos (kind of), sleeping hippos in the distance, tigers, and today for the first time the giraffes were out of their cages. The exhibits are hard to see into, especially for little kids in strollers or who can't see over the rocks/bushes/gates without taking them out of their strollers and holding them up. The biggest con is the hours. 10-4 with last entrance at 3, year round. Not ideal for anyone with a toddler who naps 12-2:30. We've only been able to go for 45 minutes each time in order to get home in time for naptime. I was hopeful the hours would be better during the summer, maybe opening at 9 and staying open until sunset. This is really the biggest issue with this zoo. Please consider changing your hours! Especially with year round sunshine, we would go weekly if it stayed open later or opened earlier.

Yelp
The zoo is something I ALWAYS have to visit no matter where I travel to! This zoo is a lot smaller than most I have been too! The majority of the zoo was made up of birds. There was a small area for reptiles And a decent amount of smaller animals but not too many of the larger ones. I was there mid-day and a lot of the animals must've been in their cages or eating because there definitely wasn't a whole lot of excitement/goings on. The zoo was clean & well-kept. LOTS of beautiful trees/flowers/shrubs.
google avatar

Sallie R.

Yelp
The zoo looked small from the outside, but as you entered it's bigger than you'll expected. Lots of animals to see like monkeys, giraffes, elephants, tigers, and much more. They offered food menu so you can have lunch or snacks. Admission prices were decent to visit for the day. Big parking lot spaces and option to park on streets. We really enjoyed our time there and would revisit again.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
Fun way to spend a cloudy day on the island. There was a lot of renovations going on when we visited and a lot of missing animals. We definitely will be back next time we are in the island.

Yelp
Hakuna Matata. It means no worries for the rest of your day, it's the problem-free philosophy, Hakuna Matata. You guessed it right! I checked out Honolulu Zoo this past Sunday. It's been so long since I last visited but I think it was cleaner then than now. Maybe it's just me but I wish there is a system in place to provide the animals with cleaner water. Some of the water didn't look clean or clear. I would want to know how often the water is changed for the rhino, lion, gibbons and all others. The last zoo I've been was in Australia. It's not perfect it was much cleaner. I really like that they had zoo keeper walking around that you could ask questions. The lady who charged me for the ticket was nice. She reminded me that I could come back within 7 days for free with my paid receipt. They also offer Kamaaina discount. So make sure to bring your ID with you ;) It's not the best place to go back too but I'm sure the kids would love seeing animals. I can't tell the best time to come as each animal had their own agenda about hiding or sleeping;) Ooh except for the sloths! You should come around 2:00 pm as they eat once a day only. Parking is $1.50 per hour. Pay for a good 3 hours if you decide to go. I think that's more than enough time if you go with a child. Thank you for reading my review. Have a great week! :)
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
I wouldn't recommend coming here. Even if you had to kill time, i would go to the beach. Unfortunately some of the animal exhibits were closed. Lots of birds, which is cool but not what I'd like to pay to see at a zoo. The best part was it was not to crowed and the tropical environment made the experience a nice afternoon stroll. Gift shop is over priced
google avatar

Peter X.

Yelp
SPRAY MOSQUITO REPELLENT PRIOR TO VISITING! When we went half the exhibits were empty and the rest of the animals looked so sad. The mosquitoes were also rampant and we quickly left within an hour with about 20 itchy welts. Save your time and money.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Most excellent gift shop! Friendly staff. Unique and quality shorts, sweatshirts, and hats. The stuffed animals are plush AND well designed. Enjoy!
google avatar

Brooke C.

Yelp
We had a half day with no plans and decided to go to the zoo. We walked up and got in the front desk lady let us know the sloth feeding was starting in 10 minutes. I appreciated it was cool to watch. They have animals I've never seen. A black swan I didn't know they were real, other birds I've only seen in cartoons. This is a nice big zoo. They have hippos that was really cool too. We came at 2pm they close at 4 but that was enough time to see almost every animal exhibit. Never time in in Oahu I'll be back.
google avatar

Gericka S.

Yelp
Good place to spend the day with kids. Not very big so you can probably see everything in 2 hours and still have enough time to enjoy the play ground and get some dippin dots. I wish there was more scheduled live interactive presentation on small animals tho.

Yelp
I visit the Zoo about once per week- this is why... Living in Hawaii for almost 40 years, I rarely had time to go to the zoo when the kids were growing up. I am now a grandmother and the Zoo has become one of my favorite places to go each week. We bought the yearly pass which I think was only $50 and that gets two adults and 1 young child in, unlimited amount of times, for 1 year. Normal entry is $20 per person so it was a great deal! Best part, you don't have to wait in the entrance line! There is a "member" line you go through. We love to enter and head straight back to the "kids area". This is where the petting zoo is and a huge grassy area with slides and a jungle gym. On any given day you will have tons of families having a picnic lunch on the grass while the kids play. NOT an IPAD in site! yaaaay!!! Feel free to bring your own lunch and water/drinks or they do have a cafe. Annual members get a discount on food and merchandise also. We love to hit the 2pm sloth feeding. Parking is in their lot and you pay at the meter stations. Make sure you enter your cell number as it will alert you when your time is near ending and if you are still enjoying the zoo, you can extend your time very easily on your phone. During the week, right when they open, there does seem to be a lot of school kids arriving in bus loads (preschool ages) To avoid that, we tend to go around 1:30pm. However, it still doesn't feel too crowded. Lots of room for all the children to play.

Yelp
I am so glad that I have a membership to the zoo because on Presidents' Day there was a really long line for general admission. I didn't have to wait to get in and no one was in the membership line. The zoo has lots of exhibits but it always seems like there are a bunch in progress. The shade is nice in certain areas and there are benches spread about. There is a lot of grassy areas for sitting and eating. You can bring rolling carts to haul kids and food in. They have two dippin dot stands. The food place sells them too and shave ice. You can order ahead and pick it up and the app tells you when your order is ready. My only grievance is the flow of the zoo is congested in some places, it's hard for little kids to see some of the animals. I wish there weren't always closed exhibits here. Also the play ground is always super crowded on the weekends. With so much grassy areas they could build more.

Yelp
This is my second time visiting this zoo. This visit I was very disappointed in the condition of the pens and so many pens were empty, nothing. Before you could see the Komodo dragons behind glass . Now we could only see half of one from a distance in the open pen. They don't give veteran discounts nor seniors. Expensive fee for what you get to see. Then the expensive snacks are tasty but sooo expensive. Overall this zoo to me has gone downhill. Get more animals and clean up the pens. Update them! Poor animals.

Yelp
I would've gave this Zoo a 6 star if I could've. There is plenty Zoo parking, so the drive here is good. After getting your admission tickets, you are met with the Zoo Shop, which is very big, and you can start your trail. The zoo counts with beautiful wild life, including birds, lions, cheetahs and even a Komodo dragon. Since it was a rainy day, some animals weren't willing to be outside, but most were enjoying the weather, so we got a great experience Halfway through the zoo, there is a resting area, counting with restrooms, food spots and seating. My drink was a lemonade, and the group got a pizza we shared. My favorite animal was the laughing Kookaburra, who is an extremely vocal bird! This Zoo has to be one of the best in the US, and is a MUST when coming to Hawaii

Yelp
This was the most depressing zoo I've ever visited. It gets a star for being within walking distance to Waikiki beach, but that's where the pros end. Most of the zoo is under construction and I hope they are making the exhibits bigger because they are SMALL! There were very few animals out or even in exhibits. It was something to do and I hope my ticket cost goes towards improving the animals quality of life, but I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Good depends on the time and day you visit the zoo. Locals now pay $10 it was $8 back in March of 2024. Yesterday was a very good day we got there when the doors opened at 10:00 am. We we're actually able to see the elephants and giraffes having breakfast. The monkeys were a disappointment. We saw tortoises also having breakfast. As a local visiting the zoo has been disappointing to see the grounds are not taken care of. Overgrown weeds dead palm leaves everywhere. I understand the zoo is probably under staffed especially for the grounds maintenance department. I feel bad for the tourists having to pay $21 and lucky if you see the animals because of the safari like habitat. It's just ugly and very messy. The kids petting zoo is also sad. Yesterday we actually got to pet the goats. I just hope changes can be made so the tourists feel like it was worth it for $21.

Yelp
All right! This is a good zoo based on its location and size; it is fairly small compared to other zoos I have visited. I was not disappointed with the care the animals are provided. So many people refer to zoos as animal prisons, but I have to disagree. We are all born to do what we do and end up right where we are supposed to be. These animals are well cared for and appear happy and eager to see you here. We arrived late in the day, so many animals had been put away. Yes, I would revisit this zoo!

Yelp
Hey Yelpers! A review for Honolulu Zoo located in Waikiki, right by the beach and Denny's (another one of my favorite spots!) Parking is very limited. The cost per hour is $1.50 but one shouldn't be there for more than 3 hours! I had to circle the parking lot many times until a nice lady gave me her spot, so beware and get there early! I came here with my nieces daughter, age 3. Although she is on the younger side, of course she had fun! The zoo offers a gift shop, playground, and I believe some food options (perfect for the little ones!) Some of the animal enclosures weren't too active, many hiding away and it was a bit sad not to see some of these animals. Lucky for my niece, we got a close up view of the elephants and giraffes! She was thrilled to say the least! I recommend looking at the zoos map to make sure you don't miss anything! And to look for the animals! Prepare for the hot Hawai'i sun. Bring a hat, umbrella, sunscreen, water, and even a fan. The zoo gets scorching hot!

Yelp
Zoo is under construction, overgrown and mostly unkept. The pictures shown were the majority of the animals out for the day. My wife and I take our son to the zoo often and have recently been to the Phoenix zoo, Albuquerque zoo and San Diego zoo. This zoo disappoints on most levels. I feel sorry for the animals in the zoo.

Yelp
Such a cute place to take the kids. So many animals to see, so many trails to wander on. You can choose your own path and then wind down in some cool air with a snack and drink at the gift shop!

Yelp
Me and my fiancé were visiting Hawaii, and we decided to go to the zoo, due to getting so sunburn we had to cancel one of our excursions... This is only like a 10 minute car ride from our hotel, and it was only $21 admission. The zoo is beautiful probably on close to 10 to 15 acres, tons of birds, giraffes, elephants, rhinos.! the service of the zoo is absolutely impeccable and let me explain. When we got back to the hotel, I realize that I had lost my wallet. Me and my fiancé jumped right back in the car and went to the Honolulu zoo, which was now closed. I ran up to the front gate and Told the lady "I lost my wallet please can you help me." She said "I think it's in the gift shop... "The security guard let me into the zoo and I quickly ran to the gift shop and told them I had lost my wallet. This wonderful woman said what's your name and I told her and she brought out my wallet. Apparently, I had left it at a place that we bought bottled water from, a security guard found it and brought it right up to the marketplace gift shop. If this were Europe, everything in that wallet would've been gone and the wallet probably would've been thrown in the garbage. I started to cry because I was so happy that my wallet was there and everything was inside. I gave all three of the women hugs and said thank you thank you Mahalo Mahalo!!!

Yelp
This is a small zoo, and you can walk through it very slowly and stop for a lot of breaks and see everything in less than 2 hours. They don't have a lot of the bigger animals. That said, it was a nice stroll and the animals appear to be well cared for. A few exhibits were closed. The gift shop doesn't offer much and is over priced.

Yelp
I've been here several times, today wasn't that great though. 1. The first bathrooms were not working. The toilets wouldn't flush and the sinks didn't work. 2. Blah staff - when I tried to tell a guy with a name tag about the bathroom problem he seemed irritated that I was trying to report it to him. He was talking to a new hire and I guess I bothered him. He told me he works at the gift shop but he will try to tell someone. Knowing it wouldn't be sometime soon , I asked him who I should report it to. He told me the front entrance staff, so I walked back and let them know. 3. A lot of the exhibits were closed today (June 3) so that was a bummer. Also, the petting zoo was closed for lunch from 11 - 1p so my kids and I missed it. It would have been nice to know this when I entered the zoo at 10a. My kids love the keiki zoo and i could have made sure we got there before it closed for lunch. Last time I came (April) the goats were inaccessible but the rest of the keiki zoo was open.
