Fabulous date night meal at Honu this evening, everything was PERFECT! from Wes our server's diligent and friendly service, to the female manager who brought Hubbs a complimentary Pho mocktail with ginger beer. We couldn't have asked for better customer service, it was absolutely lovely. Honu is always a great date night restaurant and we had a table for 2 with a scenic view, and a sunset and stars to set the vibe for the evening. We decided to start with a cocktail and a mocktail as Hubbs was nominated driver:
PHO COCKTAIL - Gray whale gin, elderflower liqueur, lime juice, pho simple syrup and habanero tincture. Wow, what a cocktail, fruity with gin to begin, then a few seconds later the pho syrup and habanero kick in to leave a totally phomazing aftertaste. It is like having 2 cocktails in one. I don't know how they do it but it is magic! My new favourite cocktail on island :) Forget run of the mill Mai Tai and do yourself a favour and try this deceptively magical cocktail!
THE ACQUITTED - mocktail, Seedlip Spice 94, Prickly Pear Puree, Agave and Lime. A fascinating taste for non drinkers that they don't get very often. Curiously alcoholic leaning even though it is a mocktail and alcohol free
The food was unbelievable:
OYSTER SHOOTER - umami ponzu, lemon, tobiko and wasabi made a melange of interesting flavours and a delicious shooter which arrives on chipped ice with seaweed garnish
CIOPPINO - a beautifully tasty San Marzano tomato stock with a strong fennel flavour, fresh fish, shrimp, clams, mussels with a side of crusty foccacio to dip into all that brothy goodness. The fish melted in the mouth, excellent!
SCALLOPS - with garlic mash, Shiitake Beurre Blanc, Gremolata and Malaysian Pepper Sauce. OMG this was a "died and gone to Heaven" dish, sublime, and all my favourite foods on one plate. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the sauce the perfect compliment, not overwhelming, subtle. My compliments to the chef on this outstanding dish
LILIKOI TART - lilikoi curd in a short pastry shell, raspberry coulis, torched meringue and a chocolate honu. Hubbs devoured this dessert and loved every mouthful. Not too sweet, a little tart, and so moreish.
HENRI PERRUSSET, MACON-VILLAGES Chardonnay - Macon, France, I ordered a glass to finish my meal while Hubbs ate his dessert. It was smooth, delicious and the perfect end to a perfect meal
Such an outstanding experience, and to top it off they give a Kamaaina discount for locals which means we can afford to eat out. I really appreciate restaurants who give Kamaaina discount as they are looking after locals as well as tourists and making sure locals can enjoy a night out on island too. Mahalo!
Honu is an amazing restaurant, we have never had a bad meal or even mundane meal here. It has always been top notch with excellent service and culinary excellence. You can't go wrong here, just order the seafood and you will be thrilled.
