We really enjoyed Hood Crest Winery! It's refreshing to have a vast of offering unique cocktails in addition to beer, wine and hard cider. Why not begin or end your day of wine tasting with a Hibiscus Lime Mojito? Definitely refreshing on a warm day. Or a limoncello cooler made with housemade Limoncello or a Strawberry Basil Rhubard Delight? You see Hood Crest is also a distillery so they make premium chilled cocktails and hot beverages. Their specialty is a Manhattan.
The setting is casual and inviting. I just love all the natural wood, the live edge bar with three very ornate chandeliers contrasting and complimenting the warm wood interior. The wrap around porch offers plenty of seating, great on a warm day or under the heaters when there is a chill. More seating in the lawn during the summer.
It was an unseasonably cold and rainy day when we stopped by but chose to sit on the deck and listen to the live music from the band inside. It was really loud indoors and we preferred the music as background to our conversation. We were rewarded in our choice when a brilliant rainbow made an appearance!
For wine, we both chose the Gold Tasting flight of 5 reds for $20. A Petite Sarah, Merlot, Tempranillo, Suoer Tuscan and Cabernet Sauvignon. I particular enjoyed the Sirah for its spice and berry flavors.
They also offer other flights that combine bubbles with reds; a full flight if sparkling; and a white and red combo. These flights are $15.
Tastes of spirits - cherry vodka, grape vodka, dirty martini, dirty gin, rye whiskey, apple brandy, cognac, tart cherry cordial - are offered at $5 per.
Of all the wineries I've visited in the Hood River area, Hood Crest reminds me most of a bar with a variety of adult beverages and also food options. Their food menus goes beyond a charcuterie; a dozen delicious pizzas, salad, bratwurst, Italian sausage and hot meatball sandwiches can be ordered.
Really glad we decided to seek out someplace new to end our day. Will definitely be back, especially during the summer months.
