I would come back just for the atmosphere. The food is good, but the menu is a little limited. It is also quiet crowded. You order your drinks at the bar (cokes, etc.) and order the food at another table. They bring it to you. We did not understand this set-up and sat for a little while until a passing waiter told us how it worked. The food was good. My son liked his sushi taco and I enjoyed the fish sandwich.

My husband and I have been passing through this area for years, but this is the first time that we’ve tried this, after seeing it on Check Please. What a great place to eat, drink and relax! the vibe is very chill and relaxed, with beautiful local plants. Plenty of seats for groups and individuals. The food is very clean and delicious: the flavor profile is Mexican: burritos, tacos, pico de gallo, guacamole, etc. They are all flavorful and let the fish shine. The guy at the order counter was very friendly and knowledgeable about fish. He recommended the grilled black cod for the plate, and the halibut for the fish and chips. The cod was so delicate, flaky and rich in flavor, wich went well with the pico, slaw, rice and beans. deep fried halibut had a thin crispy batter and tender juicy center. It was gold brown and piping hot when it arrived at the table. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. Loved the condiments, too: The carrot habanero hot sauce was great with everything, not that anything lacked seasoning. We ended up buying a bottle to go. The ketchup was not the regular Heinz one, it was less vinegary and more fruity. We finished the meal and told the guy that we loved his recommendation, and that the fish and chips were better that what we had in London. We came around 11am, soon after the restaurant opened, and it filled up very soon. Many families with young kids, friends, and individuals just having a good time. It is next to a beautiful local plant nursery, a surf shop, an outdoor apparel store, and a coffee shop. Plenty to enjoy there, and I only regret not knowing about it earlier.

Google
A scene. Packed, fresh, and as thriving a business as a fast casual restaurant could hope for. All the food looked amazing. I can’t resist a fish burrito, so I went that route and didn’t regret it. They also have this incredible carrot habañero hot sauce at every table that they make in house. I doused my food in it. Not sure if the burrito could have been dressed a little better or if the sauce was just that good, but I still really liked it.

Google
Cold weather? No problem – they fired up the heater for us, and the warm welcome didn’t stop there. When I asked for a vegetarian option, the server suggested the tacos with fried avocado, and let me tell you – they were incredible. Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely worth trying. The table had a spicy sauce that was not only delicious but good enough to make you wonder if you can buy a bottle to take home (I’m betting you can). And the other dishes we tried? Equally impressive. Everything was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. Long story short: great food, warm hospitality, and an overall cozy vibe. If you’re looking for a place that nails flavor and comfort, this is it.

Google
I came here for the fish burrito and it was decent. The fish of the day was rock fish - burrito was a decent size but i was disappointed with the ingredient proportions. Way too much rice, little fish and the veg was soaking wet. The burrito is not wrapped so the juice from the red cabbage spilled out of the bottom and made the last few bites impossible to eat with my hands. The fish was fresh but there was barely any inside the burrito. Not worth $19. The carrot habanero hot sauce on the table is nice. Sweet, tangy, and was a perfect accompaniment for the burrito. Service was solid and friendly, and the vibe of the location was great. Definitely a locals hangout - everyone seemed to know each other. Will give them another try but will order something different.

Google
What an amazing little seafood restaurant! My wife came here a couple of years ago and couldn’t stop talking about it, and now I see why. She finally brought me, and I have to say, it has become one of my favorite seafood spots too. The food is incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the staff makes you feel right at home. If you love seafood, this place is a must-visit!

Google
tl;dr: Great food and a chill mission, but dog policy confusion, DIY service expectations, and a few facility hiccups hold it back. Hook Fish Co. at Proof Lab Beer Garden wants to be your go-to neighborhood spot, and I really wanted to love it. Let’s break it down. On the upside: parking is surprisingly decent for Marin, there's a lot, but get there early. Once it's full, street parking is a bit of a circus, and nearby options aren’t exactly plentiful. The food? Absolutely delicious. Fresh, coastal-inspired, and clearly sourced with care. Their commitment to sustainability and community is admirable, and I’m always here for a spot that walks the walk with its mission. But here's where it gets murky. First, the dog situation: they have a clear "No Dogs" policy posted, but it's basically ignored. It’s frustrating, if you’re going to have the sign, either enforce it or don’t bother. I get that we’re in California, where dogs are basically plus-ones everywhere, but consistency matters. Then there’s the tipping situation. They strongly encourage a 20% tip. Understandable if you’re getting full service. But here? It’s counter-service, grab-your-own-water, and busing-your-own-table. A 20% tip for that feels like a stretch; 15% is more reasonable. And lastly, bathrooms. Functional, but barely. The faucet situation? Broken. No paper in the stalls? Not ideal, and it leaves a bad impression in an otherwise solid space. Overall, I’ll absolutely be back for the food, but the experience could be so much better with just a bit more attention to details.

Google
Some really fire fish tacos and burritos. Everything was really fresh and cooked pretty well, tried a bunch of different things. Cool vibes too and the place was packed. Want to give it a higher rating but the price point is really high for the portion sizes, and some of the dishes could have used some more flavor. Get the burritos if you go, the plates and tacos aren't as worth it. Also, it gets extremely busy so come early.

Yelp
Had an excellent rockfish burrito here, and had great service from the hostess Kendall. She killed it. I literally downloaded yelp just to leave note of how great the service was.

Yelp
Hook Fish always hits the spot. It's usually packed with no parking or seating, going for dinner on a rainy day is one of the few times parking is easy - like tonight. Their appetizers are a must-try. The chips and guac and ceviche are absolute classics and so fresh. While I've had both their fish plate and tacos, I always come back to the plate--it feels like I'm getting more food, and it's the perfect way to enjoy the incredibly fresh fish. I love the rockfish (grilled fish of the day), but the cod and salmon are always solid choices. I'm usually someone who hates beans, but the black beans are so addicting and delicious. The pickled cabbage is another standout, adding the perfect tangy crunch to every bite. For drinks, I never skip the watermelon fresca. It's refreshing, light, and always hits the spot. The setup is straightforward: pick a table, note the number, head to the counter to order, and let them know where you're sitting. The food is brought to your table quickly, and the service is always efficient, from delivery to cleanup. Hook Fish is far from where I live, but it's always worth the trek. If you're visiting during prime hours, prepare for a wait--parking and seating can be tricky. Once you try Hook Fish, it's easy to see why this spot is a favorite.

Yelp
This is a tasty place for a post-hike meal, but not quite good enough to make it worth the wait or the price. My group of four arrived around 3:30 on MLK Day. We had heard about the long waits, but I thought we might get lucky given we were at off hours. We were still quoted a 45 minute wait, but they take your phone number down and text you when your table is ready, so you can walk around while waiting. Our wait ended up being closer to 30 minutes. I'm once seated, you walk up to the counter to order, and then they bring your food to you. I got the grilled fish tacos, two friends got the poke burritos, another got the poke tacos and fried avocado plate, and we shared chips and guac. The tacos themselves were tasty, but pricey at $17 for two without any chips included. The tacos themselves did come with a lot of fish and slaw, but they were a bit too full given the size of the corn tortillas (a slightly larger flour tortilla might have done the trick better). The burritos themselves are a better value for the money, but my friends said that it was a little too much rice and they might have preferred more flavor with the poke. We were seated outside, which was nice when the sun was out, but it got cold quickly once the sun dipped behind the hills. Heat lamps would have been a nice addition. Overall, the food is tasty and the ambiance is appealing, but I don't think it is worth waiting for or spending that much money on.

Yelp
Let me start this review by saying this was the best fish and chips I've ever had. The fish is soooooo yummy and crispy. I'm a big texture girl and the crunch on this fish is so good while also being light and flaky. The flaky salt on top also tips it over the edge. Even the fries are made with care and have a seaweed seasoning that's really tasty. It's a 10/10. We also got the guac and chips which were solid. It was limey with thick, crunchy tortilla chips. I would say to skip out on the fish burrito. Personally didn't think it was flavorful enough or anything special, have had better.
google avatar

Yelp
Been wanting to come here since they've opened since I have been a fan of their location in San Francisco on Irving . Parking was easier to find here than their other location which was amazing. We stopped in for a quick bite and got their guac and chips as well as their fried fish tacos. The chips themselves were fine and deliciously crispy. The guacamole however tasted too salty and citrusy and had lack of better flavor. The tacos were the redeeming factor of this review. The fish was so fresh and the taco was well balanced and bright. Am excited to return when the weather is warmer!

Yelp
So good! Stopped by on a day out exploring the area and this place hit the spot. We ordered grilled fish tacos, fried fish tacos and burritos (all with ling cod) and thoroughly enjoyed them. The carrot habanero hot sauce was an amazing accompaniment that we loved so much that we bought a couple of bottles to bring home. Plenty of outdoor seating with heating elements nearby made it super comfortable despite the chilly weather. Service was fast and friendly. Thrilled with the meal and so glad we stopped by!

Yelp
Hook Fish is always the vibe on a nice sunny day in Mill Valley! Their backyard is one of the best and a great place to bring the dogs! We always get the burrito and have recently started trying the sandwich and both are excellent. Haven't figured out the best weekend timing to go but it can get super busy.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so cute, and the fish tacos were pretty good. Apparently their fish and chips are so good i wana try next time.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon after a wedding in Petaluma Friday before. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated since it was bustling with a lot of people, including families random group hangouts and also a lot of bikers. We ordered the oysters and the chips/guac and we also got the cod burrito, which is not pictured. I would deaf come back again when it's less busy

Yelp
This was my first time at the Mill Valley location, which has plenty of seating inside and outside compared to the SF location. Also my first time ordering their poke and the fish was super fresh; the salads are also huge! Their pineapple agua fresca was pretty bad -- skip on that.
google avatar

Valerie K.

Yelp
The seafood at this place is to die for. It's a hidden gem in the Mill Valley area. The oysters are a go-to, but there is so much on the menu to choose from. Everything is amazing and it was easy to get seated right away as well. If you're craving seafood, this is it!

Yelp
I've visited this place many times and it never disappoints. This time, I tried the fish tacos and they were, hands down, the best I've ever had. The fish is incredibly fresh which really makes it worth the price. The outdoor atmosphere is amazing and there's even a garden open during the day. This has become one of my favorite spots in the Bay Area, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food and a great atmosphere!

Yelp
What I ordered: -Poke and Chips [5/5] -Fish and Chips [4/5] -Grilled fish of the day [4/5] __ My sister took me to Hook Fish, and I absolutely loved it! The ambiance is charming, featuring an outdoor beer garden perfect for enjoying delicious food and drinks on a summer night. The service is excellent; you order at the counter, and they bring your meal to your table. The food is amazing--I'm particularly fond of the fish and chips. It's a great spot to eat and hang out with friends. While they also have a location in San Francisco, I prefer this one for its atmosphere.
google avatar

Augusto T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and tasty food. The beer garden is a great place for a casual lunch accompanied by a cold drink. I enjoyed their guacamole and their fried fish was fantastic. The oysters were nice too. Service was friendly and although it is popular and busy, it took less than 30 min to get a spot at peak lunch hours on the weekend. Highly recommended if you're in the area.
google avatar

Sara A.

Yelp
We were given a table right away and were given the option to sit inside or outside. You get menus when sit down and you go to one line to order food and another for drinks. I did not like that as much it would be nice if we had the option to order food and drinks in one spot. The fish and chips were great cripsy but you can taste the freshness in the fish even with it being fried. The fries with it were crispy but overly seasoned way too much. The tacos were good big portions and it all went well together. The guacamole was ok way too acidic. The chips were good but the guacamole was not great all I could taste was the sourness of the acidic in it. Lots of options for drinks the guava cider was great.

Yelp
Such a cute place. It's on the way to Stinson beach which Shoreline Hwy always has traffic. Parking can be tough as well as trying to pull in and out of the parking lot. I went on a Sunday around noon. It gets busy so expect to wait about 20-30mins. They told us 20mins for a party of 4 but it was less than that. Also, equator coffeeshop is right next door. I went and grabbed a coffee while we waited for our table. There's a bar inside with local beers on tap as well. They have a few proof lab merch available for purchase at the front of the door. You have to order up at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I ended up getting the fish and chips & the fish was good! It was a big chunk of fish, unlike some I've had where it was more fried dough. The "chips" are fries. I've been to places where they were actual potato chips! The rest of my friends said their food was good and finished everything. The staff was really nice as well. I plan to come back here again!

Yelp
The food at Hook Fish is vibrant and fresh! This place was bustling at noon on a Sunday. Lots of pups and babies out and about. The majority of the seating is outdoors with lots of umbrellas for shade (though the sun felt amazing). The host said it would be about 30 minutes for our party of 2. We perused the native plant nursery next door while we waited for our table. It's kind of a DIY ordering system once you get seated. You order food at the counter and alcohol at the bar. The food is then brought to you. My friend and I opted to share the poke with chips and the 2 piece fish and chips. The poke chunks were giant and meaty, and the freshness of the fish made the bites very bright. The fish and chips were well seasoned and crispy all around. We loved the herby tartar sauce! In a way it all felt like comfort food. I don't make it over to Marin much, so I'm delighted I had such a great lunch experience at Hook Fish.

Yelp
If you want really good fish tacos in a laid back setting with great craft beers, come to Hook Fish! Everything I ate was delicious here - especially the underrated red curry. For the price you get a good amount! Everything was fresh - there is usually a long wait for a table, but the wait is always shorter than they say. I would definitely come back to this spot!
google avatar

Cherish A.

Yelp
I actually love this place now. Best fish and chips in Marin. Don't really order anything else pretty bland. Amazing outside seating and friendly staff. Super cool venue. However, they might have the grossest and dirtiest restrooms out of any establishment in Marin county and snap maybe even San Francisco. They are disgusting. No toilet seat covers. Always dirty 100% of the time just absolutely horrific restrooms. Don't love that part.
google avatar

Esther C.

Yelp
Really busy spot. Parking can be a little tough here. We came in on a Saturday for lunch and waited for about an hour. It's nice that they have a patio behind and you can grab a drink while waiting. Love the vibe here. So nice out on a sunny day. We got the fish and chips, and fish taco. Solid fish and chips, probably one of the better ones in the area! Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
This place is in a convenient spot, especially after a day at Muir Woods or any of the beautiful places along the coast in Marin, before you head back on the GG bridge. That said, the way to turn into this parking lot is not so convenient if you're turning left -- there are barriers in between the directions and you pretty much have to use another lot up ahead to turn around. Getting out of here to go south also requires a u-turn. The whole concept is pretty nice especially on days where the winds are more tame. Most of the seating is outdoors, with a small portion under the heater. You can get take out and skip the dine-in line, or check in with the host to get a table. For the number of people we see there, their lines have quick turnarounds. Their food does not -- but if you order some chips, it will come right out to tame your hunger as you wait patiently for the main course. Get your beer at the bar separately. There aren't a whole lot of options for vegetarians, pretty much subbing fried or fresh avocados in tacos, plates and burritos, but their fried avocado in tacos? Amazing. Very well executed with delicious slaw. In a burrito? Atrocious, their rice comes plain and the ratio in the burrito is rice heavy, and the steaminess of the rice dulls the crispness of the avocados. The fish is nice and fresh; and the mister has enjoyed the fish and chips here, as well as a few fish tacos option. You can specify the fish (based on the catches of the day) in some dishes! All in all a fantastic option along the highway.
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
I can't get over how perfect the deep fried fish is; the outer layer is crispy and light and the fish itself is soft and moist while not adulterating the batter. The fries/chips are *okay* as they're a bit thick and not as crispy as I'd like. I also loveee the hot sauce and the tartar sauce! Overall the food is great but a bit steep in price point. The service is fantastic here; they're all so nice and work as quickly as they can. Also the outdoor seating is so wonderful on a sunny day.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday night with my bf for date night and we were not disappointed! Parking is limited and there is a lot to the side. We were greeted upon arrival by the friendly bartender who said we could sit anywhere and we order food etc. out back. We ordered the following at the counter out back: * Poke + Chips: Albacore, chili, sesame, tamari, scallion $14 * Oysters on the half shell $4 each * Poke Burrito: Black beans, rice, avocado, pico de gallo, pickled slaw, spicy aioli $18 * Fish + Chips: 2 pieces Beer battered, house tartar sauce $18 * mint mango drink that was okay but i wanted it sweet so if you have a sweet tooth like i do this is not for you! - Food was delicious and my bf commented that the poke was the best he's ever had and he's been to Hawaii! - Poke burrito was tasty and i had the leftovers for the next day. - The fish and chips were my favorite! - Cute outdoor seating area with string lights but it was a bit cold and i didn't notice any heat lamps. We can't wait to come back here!
google avatar

Anna A.

Yelp
Popular seafood bar garden even during a rainy day! Limited indoor seating so you most likely have to wait (usually 30-60min) but I believe outdoor seating is first come first serve. It was raining but there are some seats outside the are covered. Ordered fish and chips (fish of the day - rockfish) which is always a classic and satisfactory! The batter is airy with the perfect crisp and crackle to every bite. The fries have a nice Cajun blend seasoning. Also ordered the grilled/blackened fish sandwich (market fish - trout). It was good but it felt like it was missing something, maybe more salt in the herb rub to bring out the flavors!
google avatar

Hannah M.

Yelp
Came here for dinner. It was okay, small portions. But I liked the atmosphere enough. And my son liked the grilled fish so that's great! Bathroom needs major work tho, it looks like a park restroom with no up keep. It was odd. See pics
google avatar

Kathleen A.

Yelp
A great spot for super fresh fish and a nice ambiance. At all times of day hook fish is busy so prepare for a long wait time before getting seated. Once seated, you order from the counter so that process won't be as long. There is a nice outdoor patio area with both shaded and sun exposed seating. The fish is fresh and well prepared.

Johnson R.

Yelp
I have been going to Hook Fish for years and absolutely love the food and vibes that this place offers. I am only writing this review since I came to check on Yelp if anyone had written about getting sick here this past weekend and lo and behold there is a review about it. I ate here on the 11th and started feeling norovirus symptoms Sunday evening. When I went to the bathroom I noticed that there was no soap left. Not sure if the employees use the same bathrooms, hopefully not. Hard to say with 100% certainty this is where I contracted the illness and whether or not its the fault of the restaurant but I'm leaving this review here for others in case there was some sort of outbreak over the weekend.

Yelp
Pretty great spot, quite busy inside and out but didn't take too long to get a table at all during lunch time Staff are pretty nice and efficient Let's of beers and non alcoholic options which is superb Food came out pretty quick, we had the poke and tortilla chips, fish and chips, and a kids fish plate. Poke and chips came out first, would have wished the poke to have come in a bigger portion as tons of tortilla chips remained - though they were still very snackable Kids fish plate came with the grilled fish of the day, rice, black beans, 1 corn tortilla, and some slices of avocado. Nice portion kids lunch for $9 Fish and chips, ordered the 3 piece on a bed of seasoned fries, comes with tartar sauce. Fish was great, not too oily 5/5 Will return for more hangs

N A.

Yelp
They way overcooked the fish. Their whole "wait 30 min to get a table", then "wait in a 15 min line to order food" system seems like an attempt to keep people from saving tables but ends up with a bunch of people at tables with no food and 40min wait to get any. Even if the food wasn't terrible (which it was), they are just not set up to handle any volume. It is also essentially fast food but very pricey. Makes no sense why anybody would go here other than atmosphere which is fun but there are a hundred other places in Marin that are better.
google avatar

Kat S.

Yelp
LINES EVERYWHERE! I waited in line 20min to be told it was a 1hr wait. We waited. We were sat immediately when we arrived to the host stand. Once you're sat, you need to go in line for a beer or go in line for food. After I ordered my phone, I was told that it was a 45+ min wait. Thankfully, the food arrived after 20min. The food was DELICIOUS! The black cod plate and fish & chips were yummy. Not worth standing in line for an hr, but good. I didn't see a manager running the floor, which is probably why tables weren't turned over quickly. With all the technology ways to order these days, why am I standing in line? didn't make sense to me. Hopefully you don't need the toilet, because there's a line there too!
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
The vibes are on point! Love that there's both indoor and outdoor seating. I recommend sitting outside especially if it's a nice day out. I had the chips and pico, which came out FAST. The chips and pico were just alright. Maybe not worth the price it's advertised for. Fish and chips were good, although I would've preferred a different seasoning on the fries. The fish tacos were delicious but were in desperate need of a bigger taco, or at least one that could withstand the weight of all that they put on it - messy!
google avatar

Fanny W.

Yelp
Our group of six stopped by for lunch after an early morning hike in Marin. Pros: + Indoor and back patio dining available + Attentive service Cons: - Limited parking in the tiny lot What We Ordered: + Poke Salad; 3/5 + Black Cod taco; 5/5 + Rock Cod taco; 4/5 Black cod taco was so delicious! Absolutely must get! Order at the counter, give them your table number, and they'll bring the food to you. They're great about clearing the tables. Loved the outdoor sunny weekend vibes here.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Love the drink selection here. We've been here and their SF location. Both times the fish has been slightly over cooked for what we like. Regardless, if we lived here we would come back again and again. It's a fun time, the food it good, the patio is fun.. what's not to like?! The tacos were excellent and ingredients they use are top quality.
google avatar

Vy T.

Yelp
The food was not as good as the original location in San Francisco. It was not well seasoned. We waited for a long time for the table. The staff got our order wrong :(
google avatar

Jordan R.

Yelp
It's my birthday today and why not celebrate with a delicious meal! This is our 4th time here and it did not disappoint. We got a little bit of everything to celebrate and wowie! If we lived closer our bank accounts would be hurting ! This time around we got: -Fish and chips with the rock fish - perfectly crispy and husbands fav -sandwich with black cod - amazing balance my fav! -tacos with lingcod - well rounded (needs spice ) -poke - 100/10 -guacamole - smooth but a little too sour for me but still good! -oysters - delicious. We wished we ordered more! Everything gets better with each visit. Thank you for always being consistent hook fish co!

Sherry F.

Yelp
Been to the SF location. The mills valley hook fish is elavated in terms of service, selection and ambience. The outdoor area is beautiful and everyone is so nice :). Food is low key better too!
google avatar

Anastasia C.

Yelp
Great first experience! Loved the laid back atmosphere. The staff were all super nice, friendly, and helpful. The food was incredible! Really impressed with the fish options! I got the Sitka Lingcod sandwich and threw on some of the habanero carrot hot sauce the fries and tartar sauce were next level! Not pictured, the poke with chips that was devoured in about a minute I'll for sure be back real soon!!

Yelp
This place used to be consistently good, but recently it's been hit or miss and when they miss, the food is borderline inedible. For the past few years, my go-to order is the fish burrito. I alternate fish and try to guess what's the freshest by choosing options that weren't on the menu the day before. Sadly, on three of my last five visits, the fish has been lukewarm and decidedly not fresh (or perhaps fresh, but left out too long) and the aioli (which is essential) has been spoiled or curdled or both! I do wonder if they have a new chef or if they just get too busy and can't maintain the quality. I'm willing to give it another shot, but it' also kind of scares me. Bad fish is always bad news.

Yelp
Great fish and chips and poke!! I went here Memorial Day Weekend and ate at the outdoor section. Seating took 20 minutes for a large group, but food took pretty long to come out. The fish and chips were good and well seasoned. The poke burrito was super filling and fresh but I feel like it had less poke than I thought. Maybe I need to get a plate instead next time.

Yelp
I got super sick from the fish, i almost felt like I had to go to hospital to check on fever. Please be aware that the lines and ordering is super unorganized. The cooks are not professional and super slow and will get your order wrong. Be expected to wait 1 hour just go get inside and then another 45-50 minutes for food. Unbelievable for just one order of fish and fries.

Yelp
This place is great! The fish tacos are my favorite. Sometimes the wait can be a little long but the beer garden on a sunny day with some fish tacos is where it's at. The service is always friendly and pretty quick. I definitely recommend hook fish

Yelp
Ambiance 4/5 Service 3.5/5 Food 5/5 I had the best fish and chips ever here. Great selection of beer to choose from as well. My bf got the fish burrito and it was SO GOOD. Especially with their special carrot salsa.

Yelp
Not surprising to see this place was packed on a warm Saturday afternoon. While the fish tacos were solid I was hoping for a littleee more. Either a little side or a bit more flavor on the toppings. If you like really simple, fresh, and clean tacos these are good. I personally like a little more saucy slaw or spice. I would go back but think I'd want to give another order a try. We also found out that all the outdoor seating was on a wait. Just an fyi that it may be a long wait especially on a beautiful weekend day. But the outside area is cute :)

Yelp
This place has so much potential but it seems like the service staff are either high schoolers (and totally clueless about service) or busstaff that are super unfriendly. We waited at the front door to be seated and about 5 different staff walked by us without even a greeting. Finally I asked if anyone was working the door and a sweet you gal sat us. All the menus had practically enough food on them for a meal (haha). The food was pretty good. Petrale sole was a bit overcooked for me liking. Bartender was great and once we got his attention he was charming and pleasant. It was not a super busy night either. Again, lots of potential but staff needs a refresher on customer service.

Yelp
I'd give it a solid 4.5. Parking was tough, you wait in line to be added to the list and they text you when your table is ready. Then you get seated and go up to the counter and stand in line to order, and there's a separate line to order a beer. They bring your food to the table when it's ready. its super casual so there's not a lot of service but it works anyway. Would be 5 stars for the fried fish--hubby had fried fish tacos, one son had fish and chips, and I had the fried fish plate and upgraded to the halibut for an extra $5. The fish was super moist and tender and with a nice crispy exterior. The purple slaw is so incredibly good! The tartar sauce that came with the fish and chips was not my fave as it had a strong dill flavor which I don't like so much, but the spicy aioli that came with my plate was delish. The fries with the fish and chips were so good and well seasoned with herbs and salt. The fish and chips also had flaked sea salt on top. Wish my fried fish plate also had the salt flakes too but it was still good anyway. Other son had the poke burrito and he said it was a little fishy tasting. Also large pieces of poke as others have described. There were 2 flavors of agua frescas--pineapple mint and watermelon mint. They do say that neither is sweetened, which normally is fine, and I thought with it being early September that both would be plenty sweet with natural fresh fruit sugars, but both were not very sweet at all--both kids disliked it. Husband loved the beer selection--multiple good hazy ipas on tap. will def be back!

Yelp
Came here on a random Tuesday night after a short hike nearby and it was poppin! There was live music outside and it was packed. There was a short line to order outside. Just a heads up, you have to keep an eye out for the table number you want to sit at because you'll give them that number when you order. It is a bit weird cuz usually I expect to order at the front, where they will then give me a number to place down on an available table. Anyway, I was not able to snag a coveted table outside, so I chose a table close to the door/outside. I ordered the salad with poke and their pineapple mint drink. I like that the drink didn't have any added sugar. It was refreshing. Their eco friendly paper straws were really crappy though. Way too narrow to sip anything. I ended up using it as a drink stirrer instead. The poke came out quickly to my table (less than 5 minutes) and I was actually surprised by the portions. There were giant cuts of fish, and the greens were fresh and plentiful. Prices met my expectations given the portions, freshness, quality and taste. Would recommend this spot if you want a reasonably priced, chill, casual seafood spot in Mill Valley!

Yelp
Heard great things about Hook Fish and stopped by during the 4th of July Holiday weekend and was surprised to be seated quickly upon arrival during the think of dinner time. After sitting down, looked at a menu, then went outside to order. You state your table number and the food will be brought out accordingly. Crab cakes were shared, they were pretty tasty, only 2 per order ($15). I liked their tartar sauce because you can taste the dill as bits were mixed in. I had the albacore tuna burger and it was so-so. I also had a few bites of the fish and chips. The batter was too oily and didn't have a nice crunch, the fish part was just ok, nothing special. The chips (fries) were also just ok. This place is loud whether indoors or outdoors, they had music playing too. It was difficult to hear the conversation. The bussers were on top of removing plates and coming by often. Kudos to them! Other than that, this is not a table service establishment. Overall ok experience. #31/2023

Yelp
Parking is rough but they do have a lot for their building, it's tight but at least it's there. It's on the same property (so it seems) as a native nursery which is awesome. You can get a drink and a bite, then wander through the nursery via the arch from their garden. It is not a self service, you get seated when you are at the hostess station. You do order out back but then they'll bring it to you. We've been a few times; I love the carrot hot sauce. It's a hoppin' spot.

Yelp
We went to Hook Fish before seeing a show at the Junction. I have the cod plate. This was fresh and delicious. Came with rice, pickled cabbage, homemade pico and avocado. So good!! My husband had the cod in a burrito. He loved it. The beers on draft were local and great. The outdoor seating is spacious and cute. Service was quick and friendly. We will for sure go back.
