In my opinion, you should like sharing bathrooms with other guests, mostly men. More like a halfway house. Very narrow halls and bright lighting. A strong odor of mint and some unknown chemicals. Rooms are UPSTAIRS. This place is not for the handicapped. However, the people staff were friendly and helpful. The parking was directly at the front door which is great. The air conditioning in one room was warm and the other room was freezing. Very secure and safe building. The area is a little slummy. I was going to stay 2 nights but left the next morning. Bathrooms are next to 2 of the rooms and there are doors slamming all the time, as they are heavy.

Perfect for our family of 6. The Buddha room was a good size, safe, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom shower good with enough hot water for 4 of us to shower comfortably before it gave out. I was worried would be loud since it’s right on the street but it was super quiet and the AC worked well to cool the room. Chris was great- checked us in and gave us a tour to let us know what we needed to know and where to find everything. My sons enjoyed the spring fed waterfall, my daughter liked feeding the rabbits and there was even a little friendly kitty to greet us in the courtyard. Would definitely stay again- super convenient to the Everglades, Robert is Here, and Biscayne Bay. The restaurant across the street was ok, maybe the one next door is better but we didn’t find it until we were checking out. Will stay again, and thank you!

This place is magical, like an oasis in the desert. It’s a crying shame it’s not in a more “family friendly” area, I can’t imagine how much more business this place would get if it weren’t for the crappy city it’s in. The facilities could use some updating for sure, but it’s an old building and for the price it’s pretty great. They’ve done a good job of kicking out a lot of the problematic homeless people you’ll read about in the negative reviews, so no more homeless encampments out back. This an awesome place and they deserve your business to make it even better. Plant some more trees!! 🌴

Great hostel which looks like a hidden Caribbean mansion garden between busy roads. From outside you would not even say you can see something decent size and touching inside. They have a mini pond with live fish, rabbits in a cage, mini waterfall with natural spring, bunch of seats to relax in the garden. I got a great tour around the place. I would just move an attached extension to charge your devices from feet bed zone to the head area.

As a singular female traveler and an extreme introvert I absolutely loved my stay at this hostel and 100% look forward to returning each time! There is something very magical about this place. The energy is unmatched! Everyone here makes sure that you are very comfortable and have everything that you need throughout your stay. Everything is kept very clean! I was very comfortable throughout my stay with the cleanliness, and they keep the temperature very comfortable. They have everything that you can possibly need to enjoy your stay. A comfortable clean bed with fresh clean linen provided upon arrival pillow and blanket. Clean bathroom with locking door as well as a majestic outdoor shower area that made me feel like I was back in Indonesia. There is an entire restaurant style kitchen where you can prepare your food and they have all of the attends, etc., that you would need to do so. The grounds are a tranquil oasis and the pool is an all natural spring fed filtered with natural coral rock. Surveillance and security is top-tier! I recommend this place to anyone and all as I look forward to return time and time again!

This hostel was wonderful, and the staff, especially Justin, were very welcoming and friendly. The rooms were of good quality for a hostel, and the price was very reasonable. The backyard was a great place to relax, and the animals there made it feel like home. The cozy environment was very inviting. We would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Beautiful hostile clean bathroom, bedroom we booked came with air-conditioning, a coat hanger and flatscreen TV. The property has animals that are super friendly and sweet. There's a gorgeous Aquifer fed natural swimming hole with a waterfall. Definitely would recommend this hostile for people coming to stay in the keys as a cheaper option, give this place an opportunity!

Yelp
The customer service is by far the worst. They could care less about your basic necessities like cold food! I had to beg for Chris (manager?) to ask Mike Hoos if it was okay to turn on one of the two dormant refrigerators. The place sucks.its a dump with no toilet paper. Do not waste time and/or money by being misled... It's a hole in the Wall.

Yelp
This makes me really sad. Hoosville (formerly Everglades Hostel) has gone downhill significantly. I came here 8 years ago and was able to set up a tent and camp, make friends, and enjoy complimentary pancakes with fellow travelers, have wonderful conversations with unique people from all over and stay for a couple days comfortably on a budget. This time tent camping was no longer an option, we bought a room for $113/night it was a bunk style hostel room with the bare necessities, it was clean enough although there was a huge clump of hair in the shower but the vibe has totally changed. There were zero fellow travelers, seems everyone who was here was an elderly local who lived at the hostel. This gives it a completely different feeling. No more community feel, no more excitement about adventures in southern Florida, no more community breakfast, didn't feel like a hostel felt more like a monthly pay run down motel. The amount of smoking was also oppressive and could and infiltrated the inside. The backyard is still pretty, although things could use some love and attention- much is in disrepair. Cute rabbits and cats and sweet elements of some of its former magic but I feel the owner needs to decide if it's a hostel for travelers or a monthly motel because it makes a huge difference in comfort and interaction with other guests and the overall experience. In addition at $113 a night can no longer afford a multi day stay. Sadly won't be back.

Yelp
I've stayed at a lot of hostels. This was easily the most disappointing. For a hostel to not have any utensils or cooking pots or pans was pretty surprising to say the least. The overall it was pretty gross too, the showers were barely usable and so disgusting. No one is at the front desk until 10 so if you want to leave before than you are not going to get you room key deposit back either. Echoing previous comment, felt like this place has become a home for displaced folks in need of long term rental. Nothing wrong with that but when you advertise yourself as a hostel it is very misleading. Very disappointing experience, would never go back.

Yelp
Three nights unsafe and terrified. Sanitation in a hostel isn't expected to be the best. But including the lack of hospitality, The facade of a serenity. It's very cheaply done, meaning unsafe. Not a good idea even for a cheap deal.

Yelp
I love love this place! It's full of nature and fruit trees not to mention the things to do on the grounds and near by. The staff is super nice as well as the owners. Neat pool that's completely natural no chemicals. It's a Hostel so don't show up with your nose up in the air and expect a fancy place. Super clean, great experience will be back!

Yelp
I signed up to stay here through Expedia. Hoosville Hostel sent me a message as I was landing in Miami that my room would be different than the one I signed up for, so I booked another hotel. Hoosville Hostel will not give me a refund. Do not stay here.

Yelp
First off, hostels are NOT for the average traveler. That said, if you are CONSIDERING staying at a hostel, this is a great place to spend your time in southern Florida! It's close to the Everglades National Park, Miami, the Keys, Key Biscayne, and so much more. We stayed in a private room which at about $60 a night is the most expensive option. The room had a bed, a small makeup table a closet and an air conditioner. It was located right next to one of Two shared full bathrooms with large showers. The shower had lots of water pressure and lots of hot water. The best part of staying here is the communal courtyard. This was a great place to start the day with a hot cup of coffee and, better still, end a day of adventure with fantastic conversation with varied people from all over the world! The room and building itself was a little "run down", but clean. I call it character, but if this sounds like a red flag to you, you probably won't like staying here. The Hoosville Hostel must be the cheapest place to stay for hundreds of miles and if you can see past its minor flaws and are open to new and interesting experiences...you will be rewarded staying here! We stayed over Christmas to New Years, taking trips to Key West, snorkeling, sailing, exploring the Everglades and paddleboarding...and staying here was the highlight of our trip! We will be back!

Yelp
Overall an interesting experience. Friendly staff, fairly clean. Easy check in/out, even arriving at 2am. My only complaint is the glade plug in air fresheners all over the place. There were cheap air fresheners hanging from the bunk beds as well. Why? If you're looking for a unique experience close to the Everglades or keys it's worth staying here.
