This Rafting Trip on the Colorado Is Led by Santa Claus

"A festive, six-hour, 12-mile journey through the Black Canyon pairs river scenery with quality time with Santa, with a motor-assisted inflatable raft guided by an expert and crewed by Santa for holiday photos and on-river chats. Running this year from Dec. 17 to 21 and on Christmas Eve, the trip offers rare perspectives on towering canyon walls, desert landscape straddling Arizona and Nevada, and abundant wildlife like desert bighorn sheep, osprey, and great blue herons. It includes a stop below the 726-foot Hoover Dam to appreciate its massive scale from the water before continuing downriver to Willow Beach, where the journey ends near the famed Emerald Cave. The tour provides all required safety equipment plus a box lunch and beverages, with optional round-trip transportation from a Las Vegas hotel (about 40 minutes each way) for an additional $69; the return bus crosses the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge for an elevated look at the Black Canyon and river below. Pricing is $100 for adults and kids 16 and up, $88 for kids 5–15, and free for children 4 and under, with family and couple bundles available; the $15 national park entrance fee applies to anyone 16 or older." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. Too much talking and not enough boating. We did the full 3 hour tour. At the beginning of the tour, we spent what seemed like 30 minutes just in idle in the blazing sun listening to the guide talk about the dam. We had 4 adults and 3 children (ages 4, 6, and 9). The kids got bored and restless pretty quickly. Even the adults were kinda zoning out. I loved being on the water and seeing the Dam. I am a local Nevadan, so have been on Lake Mead and seen the Dam many times before, but this was my first time boating on the Colorado river side of the dam. It was absolutely beautiful. We went in mid October, so pretty good weather, perfect in the shade. I wish we spent more time at the beach to swim, eat, and play around (only had 20 minutes). I also would have liked to take the boat back from Willow Bay to the Dam. We were driven back from Willow Bay on the interstate in a van. It was a very long drive back and I didnt like being on an interstate highway without my kids in their car seats/booster seats. Everyone was nice and friendly. Not sure if I would do again - if I did, I would do the shorter tour and definitely leave the young kids at home.

First, I want to start by saying that if I could give this rafting trip a higher score than five stars it would definitely be a 10 star rafting trip adventure! I recently had the chance to experience rafting with the Hoover Dam River Rafting Adventures, and it was absolutely worth the trip! From the start, our shuttle driver, Scott, made the journey smooth and enjoyable. We were picked up at Treasure Island and headed straight to the Hoover Dam. He was incredibly friendly, professional, and full of helpful information about the area. There were a total of four of us scheduled for the rafting trip. Once we arrived at the boat ramp, we were greeted by our guide, Russ, who was equally knowledgeable and personable. The rafting experience was comfortable and relaxing, especially since the raft was motorized, so no paddling necessary! Russ provided us with wet towels to keep cool in the heat, which was much appreciated in the morning sun. The first highlight was spotting a mama bighorn sheep with her baby right at the base of the Hoover Dam. It was a rare sight, and Russ explained that they don't usually come that close to the dam so early in the day. As we continued down the Colorado River, Russ shared interesting historical and geological information about the area, which made the ride even more enjoyable. We stopped at a small beach area for lunch, where we were treated to a nice spread that included a sandwich or wrap, chips, an apple, a cookie, and water. The water temperature was pretty chilly at 54°-58°, but it was refreshing to get in, especially given how hot it was outside. This is where I recommend you get into the water, even though it may be very cold! After lunch, we continued down the river, with Russ taking us into a few inlet areas with waterfalls, giving us even more insight into the surroundings. His knowledge of the area really added to the experience. At the end of the trip, we docked at Willow Creek, where Scott was waiting to take us back. On the drive back, we made a stop at a park by Lake Mead, where we were able to see male bighorn sheep, a perfect way to wrap up the day. This was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing and informative rafting adventure. It’s a great way to take in the beauty of the Hoover Dam and Colorado River, with a knowledgeable guide and no paddling required!

We had a great time with the Hoover Dam Rafting Adventures Company. Captain Cord was awesome. He provided a smooth boating experience while also keeping us engaged with interesting facts about the region and the dam. We would 100% recommend this tour. We enjoyed it so much, we want to bring our whole family back out with us soon. Edited to add: We did come back with our children and we had Sarah as our captain. Her tour was just as engaging and wonderful as the previous one. It was also interesting to see and hear about different things depending on which tour guide you have. You feel like you get a similar, yet different experience each time. Our family loved the tour and it was well worth it for us. I'm sure we will be back at another time.

The Postcard rafting Adventure w/transportation is a must do. First, you get picked up on Linq Ln, right by the High Roller, so centrally located and easily accessible from 2 different Monorail stops. Our driver, Marty, was very friendly and had a vast knowledge of many topics, from the railroad to metal art along the highway. He took us on a scenic route of Boulder City, pointing out historic places, telling us the history of buildings and the people that worked on the Hoover Dam. We arrived at an historic Hotel/Casino to pick up more passengers, then on to the Hoover Dam. There, we were greeted by Aiden, our raft operator tour guide. This young man was very knowledgeable about everything Hoover Dam. He knows all the inner workings of the Dam, from the construction of it to the adjusting of the water levels. He took us down the Colorado River, stopping along the way to point out and talk about old walkways the workers used and old pulley systems still evident along the canyon walls. He showed us hot springs, caves, and stopped at a little island. We were able get off the raft, eat a snack they provided and, if you wanted, you could go in the river. Going in the river is a bucket list thing I never knew I wanted to do until I had the opportunity to do it. On the way back, Aiden showed and explained to us more remnants left behind from the building and surveying of the Hoover Dam. You could feel Aiden’s passion for the Hoover Dam with the stories he told about the workers and the facts behind those stories. Almost forgot, we saw several long horned sheep too. When the tour was done, we hopped back in the van and was regaled with more facts and great conversation from Marty. He dropped us off where he had picked us up and the fabulous trip was complete. I also have to mention Jayme. I called with a couple questions, and Jayme was so friendly and helped me out. She also sent texts to keep me informed about pickup place and time. From booking, to customer service, to van ride, to raft adventure, this is a 10++++ must do. You will love it.

Wow! Wow! Wow! What an amazing tour! First we met Victor our driver and he set the tone for an amazing trip, he was bubbly and friendly and was so knowledgeable about the history of the dam which was lovely to listen too. Then are raft captain was Dave and he was brilliant also, cracking jokes and getting along with everyone just made the trip so special. Again the knowledge and passion from him just added to what our eyes were seeing. We were a 8 person group from the UK on a road trip and every single one of us said this was a highlight. With 2 of the party being 3 times and the others twice. It is just incredible and the people who work there add to the amazing things you are already seeing. Had the best day thank you so much!!!

My two teens and I really enjoyed the 2-hour Postcard tour with Hoover Dam Rafting Adventures! We met at the Hoover Dam Lodge, and Victor from Hoover Dam Rafting Adventures drove my family of three and approximately 10 other people down to the water, regaling us with interesting facts about the building of the dam and purpose of the dam. At the water, Paul helped us get on to the raft, then we set off and learned all about the geography and history of the area. We stopped at an 'island' in the Colorado river at one point, but other than that we were on the raft. It was quiet, calm and peaceful. I saw 4 bighorn sheep from the raft, as well as many cormorants. Each person received complimentary water, 2 cookies, an apple, and a bag of sunchips in a nylon bag to keep. My teens really enjoyed it and so did I! (Bonus tips: we drove in from Vegas in the morning, had a delicious breakfast at The Patio at Chilly Jilly's, and checked out the majestic bighorn sheep at Hemenway Park before the tour. After the tour, we drove through Arizona's amazing Joshua Tree Forest on our way to Grand Canyon West to hike to Guano Point. We stayed in a covered wagon at Grand Canyon Glamping Resort that night, and took a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon the next morning. It was a fabulous 24 hours!!!)

I had an amazing time taking the tour up black canyon. Very nice to see the different times them rocks were being created. Ive taking the lake Powell dam tour when I was younger so being able to be at the base of this dam was an amazing experience 😍 the view of everything is something else the springs that are all running off rocks was amazing as well. I loved how our pilot "Cordero" was very informative about everything... like the saying you learn something new every day ... I would recommend this trip to everyone an have told few coworkers to experience this as well .... I love how everyone was polite and very helpful.... ive also dropped my own kayak an went up 6 miles it was a workout lol but it is a very wonderful experience 1000% recommend 👌 I cant wait for my family to come an experience this ...

Our experience with Lake Mead Mohave Adventures as part of the Pink Jeep Hoover Dam Top to Bottom Tour was absolutely incredible! The breathtaking views of the mountains and Lake Mead set the tone for the adventure, and we were even lucky enough to spot big horn sheep along the way. After a quick stop at the Hoover Dam Lodge, which was clean and perfect for a restroom break and souvenir shopping, the tour shifted to a more exclusive experience. We were picked up by Esteban from Lake Mead Mohave Adventures, who took us down a private, secret road that requires high-level clearance. The feeling of exclusivity was undeniable, and the road ended right at the bottom of the river, making it all the more exciting. At the river, we met our guide, Sahara, who led us on the "Postcard" tour—a 90-minute pontoon boat ride down the river. Sahara was amazing: knowledgeable, funny, and extremely accommodating. She went out of her way to make sure everyone was comfortable, providing hydration stations, cold towels, and snacks to keep us refreshed in the heat. The boat ride itself was a highlight, offering stunning views of scenic caves and the river. Sahara shared fascinating insights about the history of the Hoover Dam, making the trip educational as well as fun. There were plenty of opportunities for photos, and the guides were more than happy to capture the perfect shot. We even got to step off the boat, walk around, and dip our toes in the cool water—a refreshing and peaceful moment that added to the charm of the tour. This tour is perfect for families and accommodates both small and large groups. The snacks and unlimited water provided were much appreciated, especially in the hot desert climate. I highly recommend bringing sneakers, water shoes (optional), comfortable clothing, sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and of course, a camera! The tour guides are great photographers and know all the best spots to take photos. A small backpack is also useful for carrying your essentials. Overall, the Lake Mead Mohave Adventures tour was an unforgettable experience, offering the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and learning. Whether you're traveling with family or friends, it's a fantastic way to see the Hoover Dam and its surrounding beauty from a unique perspective.

Yelp
Excellent tour! Took the Postcard Tour and we saw so many things with thanks to our Captain/ Tour Guide Cordoba! This tour is entirely on the Colorado River below the dam and this is a vantage point very few get to experience. We drove to the historic Hoover Dam Lodge, but others had a shuttle from LV hotels. From beginning to end, very informative and interesting to see! Reservations are on-line in advance. No walk-ups. Remember hats, sunscreen and dry towels if you are swimming (optional) in the River! The motorized raft can get wet, so wrap belongings in plastic if possible! Have a great time!!!

Yelp
Book this tour was super easy. Once we made our payment we were emailed instructions on where to meet. My husband and I went on this tour on a Sunday. We were told that the raft could hold about 32 people, but we were lucky because on tour we had a total of 17, which was nice. We were also given a bag with snacks and a bottle of water, which was great to snack on during the tour. We met our driver at the Hoover Dam lodge. There was a lot of parking available, which made it easy. Our driver was super friendly and very informative. He took us to the raft to meet our tour guide. Our tour guide wasn't welcoming to my husband and I, but as other guests loaded onto the raft, his attitude changed. As we started the tour we stayed at the same spot for 30 minutes. Our guide passed out pictures in sheet protectors and began sharing about the history of the Hoover dam. Throughout the tour, our guide was testing us about our history. We didn't know much of it, that's why we attended the tour to learn. The best part of the tour was us getting out of the raft and landing on a piece of land to touch the water and skip rocks and take more photos. It was nice to see a few mini waterfalls and even a hot spring! I did wished we went deeper into the dam, but I guess that would've been for the longer tour. Also, I wish we could've swam in the lake, but it was very chilly. It was a great experience, however, the initial encounter with our guide was uncomfortable. We learned a lot and the views were amazing.

Yelp
This was such a fun excursion. We are locals and have people visiting us from out of town. We have not done this before, but were curious about the tour - we had previous only been the top of the dam. We had a beautiful 60° day. Kyle was a fantastic guide. Really nice guy and very knowledgeable about the area. Our driver Micheal was also fantastic and helped get us oriented to the dam as we took the drive from the meet up point to the boat. Would highly recommend this tour, especially if you need to get away from the craziness of the strip for an afternoon. We did the hour and a half tour, but I think we will come back for the three hour.

Sharon R.

Yelp
My family and I took the 1.5 hour tour of black canyon and Hoover dam, the tour guide was excellent!! He had snack bags for everyone waiting for all of us, wet towels to help cool off because it was 105 degrees!! what a great view! After this tour, we went on our own to the hoover dam and did the tour inside the dam and power plant. excellent day!

Yelp
Booked the postcard tour (there is a longer tour @4 hours). It was great. You meet the bus at the Hoover dam lodge(@45 minutes from the strip) the bus takes you to a restricted area at the base of the dam... I mean seriously restricted if you aren't on the tour you ain't getting this view. Our driver was victor nice guy very knowledgeable. Boat guide was Sarah. Excellent boat handler ( I know because I'm a crappy boat handler and she didn't do any of the dumb stuff I do. Water and snacks were provided along with towels to cool off with. Went down river a bit. Great views and took a brief swim/ wading break. Temperature was @100 degrees but at no point was I uncomfortable. Access to the boat was good. You do have to cross about 5 foot of natural rock from the sidewalk but I managed with no issues with a cane and leg brace. Overall 5 stars. Left my hotel at 10 am and got back at two. Nice afternoon for not a lot of money

Yelp
This was our 3rd tour experience with Hoover Dam Rafting Adventures! We were excited when we learned that Russ was our raft guide and captain again! Russ is so knowledgeable and has so much passion of the history of the Hoover Dam, the river and surrounding areas! We learned something new with every tour! Russ keeps the tour fun with amazing stories of Black Canyon and with great humor! 10 gold stars for Russ. In fact, all of the staff is wonderful from the moment you check in, starting the tour on the little bus that takes you down the canyon to your raft! Our bus driver was Brian (10 gold stars for Brian too!) Brian kicks it off with history of the men who worked the dam and highlights of the road as we made our way to the base of the dam! So exciting from the get go! You can see some amazing wild life too! This tour is always top of the list when family and friends come into town! Do this tour! It's a blast!!

Yelp
This was a great tour! We took our four person family, and went with two other families- 13 of us in all, including two toddlers. The tour operator was knowledgeable; the boat was comfortable and the trip easy and smooth (not that fast); and the kids appreciated the snacks which kept them quiet and occupied until we could get out and wade a bit in the water. Personally, I enjoyed the fact that we were given ALUMINUM water bottles of spring water- so this operator is eco friendly as well!

Mercedes S.

Yelp
A perfect way to spend the morning! The Black Canyon is absolutely stunning, and the calm waters made for a relaxing, scenic ride. Aidan was a fantastic guide--informative, friendly, and clearly passionate about what he does. He made the whole experience feel personal and memorable. Highly recommend!

Mary A.

Yelp
Went on the 1.5 hour Hoover Dam and raft trip over memorial weekend. Beautiful scenery. Fun guide who shared great information about the dam and the river. We got to spend a very short time in the water near a cave and waterfall which was special. Definitely recommend the trip. Next time though I would probably go on the 3 hour tour

Linda

Yelp
We had so much fun doing this. The view was incredible. Sarah was so knowledgeable and friendly. unfortunately it was over 100 degrees.. so it was hot. Sarah was awesome making sure everyone stayed hydrated, she kept to the shade where possible and kept changing out our cool wet towels. we really appreciated her concern as we had no idea it would be that hot. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

R K.

Yelp
Wonderful experience for the time available. Everything went smoothly and as advertised. Bob was a great and personable guide

Russ K.

Yelp
Friendly and experienced staff! See how the Hoover Dam looks from the safety of a professionally guided raft. Whether you take the "Post Card" tour or the Regular Run, you and your friends and family will certainly enjoy these trips.

Yelp
Jan 24,2025 - we dressed for bitter cold and possible shoe soaking but neither came about. Sweat-shirts and cap were comfortably adequate on this pleasant and informative excursion as the temperatures were 40-60 degF. The water was glass smooth. Victor drove us down the steep road to the boat while telling us history and anecdotes of the dam and surroundings. Safe and easy board/deboard. Kyle was our guide and expertly move the pontoon boat to every interesting nook while providing explanation and background for each while answering all questions. The views were spectacular! Flocks of coots and, mallards, took off as we came into view. An osprey glided over us and perched high up the canyon wall highlighted in a pencil beam of light. We liked the geological mix surrounding us. so beautiful and tranquil. Highly recommended

Yelp
Our tour guides were entertaining and knowledgeable, and helpful and kind. The boat ride was beautiful with many wonders of nature and architecture to see. The lunch served was yummy with lots of snacks and options for the vegetarians.

Yelp
First time kayaking and I had such a great time. Great instructors and guides. Very fun tour! Would do it again.

Anne C.

Yelp
We had a sensational time on our adventure. Sara the raft driver and Kathryn the bus driver were awesome tour guides. My family loved seeing the dam from below. Highly recommend postcard tours for families. Kids under 12 wear life vest and raft felt very safe. Thank you Hoover Dam Rafting Adventures for participating the Las Vegas Science and Technology Festival. We look forward to visiting again in the future.

Yelp
Excellent tour the scenery was amazing. The tour guide was very informative. We learned a lot about how the dam was built and what men had to go through to build the dam. water was crystal clear, but very cold. Be sure to bring a sun hat you will need it. They provide small towels that you can dip in the water and keep it around your neck. Also bring another towel to sit on and of course water and sunscreen. Lunch was very good.

Charles S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. both guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. Must do if you have kids. We had a blast. Best part of the vacation!

Yelp
Beautiful kayaking place. This is awesome to paddle down and learn some great history of the dam.

Yelp
Nice relaxing tour. Our tour guide was very informative, knows the area, funny and nice. Nice relaxing time. Highlight taking a dip in the Colorado river if you can brace the 54 degree temperature which was delightful!

Yelp
I have taken the Black Canyon Adventures raft trip from Hoover Dam to Willow Beach twice. If you drive yourself to the Lake Mead area, the company's office is at the Lake Mead RV Village. This is inside the Lake Mead National Recreation area and there is a charge for entering unless you have a pass. Check in went smoothly and we boarded two busses to be driven to the base of the dam. There's a short walk to the area where you walk over some rocks to get to the pontoon type raft. Once on board, the guide/boat driver will give you a short safety talk. Soon you're on your way enjoying the magnificent views of Black Canyon. Questions are encouraged and being a local, I know the answers were correct. The website says the trip is 3 hours. The day is longer than that. You are to arrive between 9:15 and 9:30. We left for the dam about 10 AM. We got back from Willow Beach after 2 PM so it's a full day adventure if you factor the travel times in. We made two stops. The first was on a sandy area along the river where we had our lunch. The lunch is included in the price of the tour and consists of a turkey wrap, an apple, a bag of chops, and some cookies. This stop was about 1/2 hour in length. The second stop was for people who wanted to stretch their legs, have a cigarette, or take a bathroom break in the bushes. The scenery is stunning and both times I've been on the tour, the guides have been very knowledgable. On arrival at Willow Beach in Arizona, you have time for getting a drink at the store, perhaps a souvenir, and use the bathrooms. You then load the bus which takes you back to the Lake Mead RV Village where the cars are parked. This is a great day trip and a way to see something away from the Strip.

Yelp
Mood - Adventure This was apart of my all day adventure/ celebration. Everything was handled wonderfully. A Mercedes charter bus picked us up from 5 Star, and took us to the check in point for the water adventure. We checked in was given complimentary bpa free refillable water bottles, waited for the bus to take us down to the bottom of the Hoover dam, at which time we got on our pontoon style craft. Our guide Jeff was filled with so much knowledge during this 12 mile trip down the Colorado until we finished at Willow beach. The trip has many on the water stops to obtain history and education of the areas, and a complimentary cooler lunch on a beach, during which time you can swim or just hang out if you want. There are only 2 facilities with restrooms that's at the beginning and at Willow beach. If you need to use the facilities there is a portable bucket that is set up at the beach during lunch break. The total trip was about 3 hours. Bring sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and whatever else you might need to enjoy an outdoor experience. Would def recommend- pricing is reasonable. It includes the fees to get into the recreational area. They have shuttles that pick up from major hotels if you don't want to drive. Also this is a boat, your on the water, yes you will get wet. Many people on with us were complaining about this. Location is Lake Mead to start, and Willow beach by boat to stop.

Diana D.

Yelp
Really great tour! Our tour guide was Gianni. He was a fun and informative guide. The beach stop along the way was fun and refreshing. This tour wasn't around the first time I came to Las Vegas years ago but I'm so glad I was able to book it for my husband and I because it was a really neat experience!

Angla Y.

Yelp
We had a fantastic time! The raft captain was a blast and was very informative! I wished it was longer it was so much fun!

Yelp
Being that yes I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and like many we don't find our kicks in the strip I had NEVER thought to do this before. My friend Billie invited me with her and it was the best time of my life. Who would really know the beauty of the desert and the hidden treasures outside the city lights. Jeff was our guide and I was so happy that he was from his accent which I enjoyed, to his corny jokes that I understood to him calling me by my favorite person Erykah Badu in reference to my new leg tattoo, and he even threw in a lot of history! Now when friends come in town I will certainly let them know of the fun we had, and yes I'd do it again! Thank you so much for the experience. I always love seeing people do what they love for a living and Jeff certainly has a passion for what he does. Great Job!

Dave M.

Yelp
Great time. Highly recommend this tour. Informative, quiet, fun and very reasonable price wise.

Yelp
Great tour and very knowledgeable tour guide. Awesome view of the dam and river. Great day outing.

Yelp
Cold, Lake Mojave water (compared to Lake Mead), shoreline trash & diapers. Disappointing. Dual agency managed, so I will guess the locals (Arizona? County?) are not holding up their end. The visitors don't help either by ignoring signs banning styrofoam & littering. Good parking, cabanas (dirty) & grills, tap water, toilet buildings (but no hand washing), separate kayak launch area. They honor the national park pass. Ok to be around after dark unlike Boulder Beach at Lake Mead. BE SAFE! Beware of flash floods during rain on the twisty road down the ravine; the current; cold water. Use PFDs (life jackets) for water play. Keep an eye on kids in or near the water. Maybe bring a trash bag, gloves, and pick up a little after others who don't care?
google avatar

JJ W.

Yelp
If I could make it less than one star I would. What a crock this place is. They operate inside the park for what reason I am not sure. It is just a table in the corner of the mobile home park convenience store. Your entry does not include the admission to the park as I was dropping off my kids and had to pay to get in the park. They rangers would not let me drive the 1/2 mile round trip from the gate to the convenience store to drop them off. When I asked at the check in their answer was "oh we don't have any control over that at the gate, if the make you pay that you have to pay". Then why does your website say it is included? After paying to get in my kids better come back and tell me it was better than Disney Land since that is about what it cost. I am not sure how it is going to be that amazing knowing that you are going down on a giant raft with two outboard motors. I think rafting is a very loose term to use. It should be called boating down the Colorado river. As a local I can tell you there is most likely a lot better way to spend your money when visiting town than this. I will pass final judgement once I go back to pick up my kids at the end. But hey I paid good money to drive another 1/2 mile round trip on park land to hear about it. I am not sure it is going to live up to the hype that it needs to.

Yelp
This place is awesome!! I flew out to Vegas with my BFF for my birthday last weekend, and I did a quick google search of places not to far to go canoeing, as it's one of my all-time favorite activities. I found a few places, but decided ultimately on Willow Beach. This place is GORGEOUS! It's a beautiful drive into Arizona, about an hour from Vegas, Once we arrived, we were met with friendly staff. Despite having a power outage, they were able to get us set up right away and out on the river. I literally wanted to cry the entire time. The views were UNREAL! I was in BIRTHDAY HEAVEN! We came at the perfect time (late October) and the weather was just gorgeous. We spent six hours out on the water, with stops to sunbathe on the shores of the Colorado River, and of course about 45 minutes yelling out into the canyons to hear our voices echoed back (we are super lame). There weren't many people out there, so it was like we had the whole place to ourselves! I recommend this place to everyone, novice or pro when it comes to being out on the water. They rent kayaks as well as motor driven boats. COME HERE! Escape from the strip! You won't regret it!

Yelp
Its not what you expect. Its more. We did the five hour Black Canyon float tour with family from out of town and had a great time even in 117 degree heat. Our captain Steve did what he could to keep us cool and having fun. Stopping several times for us to get wet and enjoy the scenery. Lunch was served on an island. Basic box lunch, Delicious as it was. But we are there for the scenery and that did not disappoint! Being out in nature and in the sun, people let their guard down and we met some wonderful people that made it that much more fun. This is not meant as a luxury outing. Its mother nature with some of her best work while you also enjoy seeing some of man's best work from the base. (The Hoover Dam and the bridge) . The raft has adequate seating. We chose to ride the on the tubes and kept our seats wet with the 55 degree river water felt great! Its amazing to be so close to metropolitan Las Vegas, yet see nothing from the modern era. Just a few relics from the Dam construction era and a lot of wildlife. Historical projects, natural history, millions of years of geology and its effects, hot springs, wildlife, beautiful scenery, wildlife, and not a casino in sight! Did I mention the wildlife and photo opportunities?? If you have a problem with the age of the hotel, the narrow rode to the boat launch, just think of the era all this was built in!! History is what you are experiencing.

Yelp
I'll first start by saying there are different raft companies and tours in this same area so you have to be careful which one you are picking. My review is for Hoover Dam Rafting, not Hoover Dam Raft Float or Black River Adventures. Black River requires you enter the park and pay the park's entrance fee. We took the Hoover Dam Rafting "Post Card Tour". Advantages: 1) it leaves from the Hoover Dam Hotel along the highway just before the entrance to the dam. Easy to get to, lots of parking and no fees. 2) The raft is comfortable and you don't have to be in good shape. There's no rowing involved. You sit on a bench seat and enjoy the view. It's easy to get on and off the raft. Now that I've seen what it is I will bring my 90-year-old mother. 3) the view was spectacular, including the beautifully clear blue water, and it's a view of the dam you will never see unless you take this tour or somewhere get there in your own boat/canoe and even then you won't be allowed to get this close. 4) the Guide was a delight and very knowledgeable. When he wasn't sharing the normal info, he was answering questions and had a good depth of knowledge. 5) Pros and cons it's short. Doesn't go down the river very far but once you've seen a good variety of rocks and plants (and everything associated with building the dam) I can't imagine there's much more to see that's different. Good for people that don't want to spend a day on the river. We did the 11am tour and were in Henderson having a great lunch by 2pm. A word of caution about the tour shuttles that pickup from the hotels. It appears they service more than one tour company. A couple got dropped off at our tour location but they were booked on Hoover Dam "Raft Float" tour, not our Hoover Dam Rafting tour. They were frantically calling their tour company trying to get someone to take them to the right location before their tour left. They were still at the hotel on the phone when we left with HD Rafting to start our tour. If you can drive or take an Uber/Lyft, I'd recommend it and it shouldn't cost more than the $69 shuttle charge.

Yelp
Took a tour with Danni (might be spelled right) as the pilot and had a really nice time. My Dad found the tour and I booked it online, Matthew from the office gave me a coupon code which was very nice. The trip was great, got to see a lot of the dam and the canyon and Danni provided some great piloting and history about the area. I would suggest bringing a jacket and something to cover your legs as well. The wind gets strong and you will get sprayed with water.

Yelp
What a great adventure and Jeff was a great captain! I find some of the older reviews confusing... I guess people can find the negative in anything. We enjoyed this trip so much and Jeff was one of the most knowledgeable in an enjoyable guide/captains ever had the pleasure to have met! The Colorado river in the surrounding canyons are beautiful. This was well worth the money and the time

Yelp
Post Card tour was visually stunning. Can't wait to come back and take the longer trip down the river. Brian and Jeff made a great day even better.

Yelp
I just got back from having the best time at Willow beach. Our family had our reunion at the camp site and decided to do the Raft trip from Hoover Dam to Willow Beach and we had a blast! Jeff is the best tour guide. He was fun and knew all about the area. The trip is kid friendly and provides lunch and a water bottle. I would love to do it again! Alayne Hail

Yelp
This raft tour was the highlight of our Vegas trip. A must do if your a local or tourist. Our two were guide was a cute little old lady who seem to of been doing it for many years and loved everything about her job. They provided water cold wet towels and lunch along with some great commentary. The views were breathtaking and you could see a part of the Hoover dam not many get to see. If we were to come back to Vegas this would definitely be something I'd want to do again highly recommend

Yelp
I love the Black Canyon River Adventures. I am a local and have done this tour twice. Both times were a really neat experience. You really get to go out and experience a different side of Nevada/Arizona. The tour begins at the base of Hoover Dam. It is so amazing to look up at the dam, instead of over the side like most people. It is really cool to have a different point of view of such an awesome work of engineering and manpower. You then get to float down the Colorado river, which is 55 degrees year round, and see fish swimming beneath your feet, big horn sheep on the cliffs, and all sorts of interesting birds flying just above your head. You also get to go see natural hot springs coming right out of the mountain sides, an emerald cave with the clearest water I have ever seen, and just get in touch with nature, but without too much work on your part. On top of the wonderful float ride down the river, is your tour guide. These guys know everything about the area and are pretty funny too. You will learn some neat stuff and laugh a lot too. They totally make your day. Overall, I think this is a total must do if you are visiting town or live here. Get out and do something different!

Yelp
My wife had heard some good word-of-mouth about the Colorado River rafting tours, so she chose Black Canyon River Adventures to take us and my parents on our first rafting "adventure" (mild though it was). We left the Hacienda casino by bus at around 10 a.m. and returned around 3 p.m., with the actual time on the water lasting about three hours (and that was more than enough). After a potentially harrowing bus ride (if you're afraid of heights), the tour started at the bottom of the Hoover Dam, which was easily the most visually interesting section. Our captain, Dennis (nice name!) was funny, easy-going, and had a plethora of interesting information about the history of the dam and the people who built it, as well as tidbits on the O'Callaghan-Tillman Bridge and, later, the geology of the canyon. The scenery was pretty, if not spectacular, for the rest of the long sojourn down the Colorado, and though we didn't see any wildlife (save birds and a dead ram being eaten by vultures), there was enough natural beauty to keep my eyes flitting. The raft also stopped twice at tiny beach areas, and some people chose to wade in the water, but I opted not to. The tour came with a boxed lunch, and I was expecting the worst, but it was actually pretty darn good. Nothing special: a turkey sandwich, chips, an apple, cookies and water. You get to keep the (cheap) lunchbox. A few negatives: As alluded to before, I thought the tour went on a bit too long, though there's nowhere to dock between the dam and Willow Beach, so I guess there's nothing they can do about that. The seating isn't exactly comfortable; your choices are long benches or blazing-hot rubber pontoons. The people sitting on the front half of the raft got soaking wet, and even in the back we got more than a few splashes, so be prepared. Overall, it was a memorable experience, and we met some interesting people (not only Dennis and the other employees, but also the people around us on the raft, including folks from China and New Zealand). I would recommend this trip to anyone seeking a scenic, mild "adventure."

Yelp
Black Canyon River Adventures Categories: Tours, Rafting/Kayaking 1/2/2013 So Much Fun!!! Check in is inside the Hacienda Hotel adjacent to the Hoover Dam, it's a bit smoke filled, but we spent money in the gift store, waiting for the bus. It's AWESOME!! You get out on the Colorado RIver which is about 55 degrees, blue water and hot summer days. This is a wonderful tour with adventure, rafting and Hoover Dam history. Our guide was a retired school teacher, he knew EVERYTHING. He was fun too, he drenched us a few times, catching the wake of a jet skier...so much fun! You end up in Arizona, they bus you back.

Yelp
This is such an amazing find! If you have a day off, take the hour drive out of the city and rent a canoe or some kayaks and feel like you are far far away from the desert. The water in the river is cool and blue and the canyon itself is awesome. Plus, when your rental time is up, post up at the beach and go swimming. There is a rock that you can get to and jump off into the water. It is so amazing and such a thrill!

Yelp
Great adventure. From the moment you get onto the boat and look up at the Hoover Dam until you navigate down the Colorado River toward Arizona you will not only marvel at the terrain but will be amazed at how people in the 20's and 30's monitored water levels and how they constructed the Hoover Dam in such unforgiving areas. The tour lasts about four hours. Well worth the experience and price, which includes a lunch. Bring sunscreen, you'll need it.

Yelp
Super awesome!! Look past the decrepid hotel and horrifying cigarette smoke when you check in, inside the Hacienda Hotel adjacent to the Hoover Dam. It's not the most organized or professional business set-up....but that's not what this review is for...it's for the tour itself. It's AWESOME!! You get out on the Colorado RIver which is about 55 degrees in contrast with the hot summer day is most refreshing. This is a wonderful tour dashed with adventure, peaceful rafting and history about one of Nevada/Arizona's historical mammoths. You end in Arizona, they bus you back. Bring a hat, good shoes that have grip on them, camera with water-proofed wrapping, lunch is provided (not that great :/) and sunscreen, you're in direct sun 99% of the time. Bring your bathing suit if you want to take a dip, they stop the raft for lunch and you can swim and/or eat. Love it, check this out for something unique ;)

Yelp
A Las Vegas Family must do. 4 hours of crazy outdoor fun. A true adventure. We saw Big horn sheep, Ewes, lambs, Rams... Just amazing. Let them know you are locals and have an ID ready..(shhhh they cater to locals.). This is a fresh new way to experience the Hoover Dam and the Las Vegas experience is reborn. Oh and ask for Jeff... He is an amazing person that loves nature, his customers and his job..... Joe B. Las Vegas transplant (7 years)

Yelp
I got the groupon special on an hour and half of rafting on the Hoover Dam. On a 100+ degree morning, I was looking forward to sticking my legs into some water, and getting some relief for my wife and the lil guy. IIt never happened. First, it took a half hour to move 50 yards down the crowded fwy. Being down in the canyon was way cool: the canyon sides were scenic and the river was gorgeous, but it was hot. They stuck about forty of us on one large rubber raft, so there isn't much maneuverability. Basically, we got a history lesson about the Hoover Dam, moved from one side of the river to the other side, and inhaled some fine petrol, as in gas. It was hot. In the end, we rushed back to the air conditioned bus which dragged our sorry asses back to the Hacienda Hotel to hightail it out of Boulder City.

Yelp
It was a great experience cruising on the Colorado River on a big raft. At first, I thought it would be too hot, but we got a nice breeze with the cold water splashing on us. It was nice to see the Hoover Dam from the bottom up. Normally, you see it from the top down. The boxed lunch, along with a free water bottle and lunch bag was a nice freebie. My critiques would be to cut down on the commentary about the history & stopping so much in the beginning. I liked it when we were moving. Also, I wish we went to better beaches. Some of the places hardly had a beach & on one side he parked where branches were against our backs. I would've preferred staying longer at the beaches than stopping at so many places to hear the history. The water was so cold, but it was nice to go in since it was very hot. I'll have to come back and spend more time at Willow Beach, where the tour ended, since we didn't have time to stay there.

Yelp
Groupon, I think it's gonna be a love hate relationship. Yes, you bring me great deals. Yes, I get to try some things that I never would have otherwise tried. But sometimes, there are just lemons. Like this one. An hour and a half Hoover Dam rafting tour. An hour and a half tour on a raft that doesn't allow short asians like myself to feel the nice cool clear waters of the river without really leaning out into it while straddling a piping hot rubber tube. Oh, and the rafting tour seriously does not move more than a quarter mile from where we launch. The tour is just some history of the Dam while we hover in the same general location on the water. This place was well out of Vegas with tours departing from the Hacienda Hotel from 9:30 am, 10:30 am, and 11:30 am. I was aware of this, but thought the 1.5 hour river thing would have been worth it. It was not.
