This has to be the coolest cemetery ever, and that is coming from a girl from New Orleans (home of amazing graveyards). This cemetery dates back to 1895. Apparently, many Italian (and Scottish) stone cutters moved to Barre because of the large granite quarry. The tombstones are demonstrations of remarkable art.
Several interesting pieces: the 8-9 foot tall string bass, the 4 foot across soccer ball, the 6 foot long race car, and my favorite--the kitty cat. There are portraits of the deceased carved in stone, Greek pillared structures, and lots of intricately carved Jesuses (Jesi?).
If you are in Barre, you should really check out this beautiful cemetery. The artistry will take your breath away.
