We stayed on night on a northland road trip. What an amazing little treasure the Horeke Hotel is our room overlooked the jetty with a large shared deck joining onto the dining bar deck. The meals are big and cooked to perfection (complements to the chef). So peaceful and quiet. Great place to stay if doing the twin coast cycle track. Peter is a great host thank you for a great stay Peter we will be back

What a unique experience at this hotel. We enjoyed a large room with great views. Peter and Laurel made us most welcome and went over and above with their hospitality particularly in relation to accommodating our requirement for a lactose free diet. The bike shuttle was excellent as were the bikes. Can thoroughly recommend the Twin Coast bike route.

We stayed three nights as a party of 5 in the 'over the water restored house'. Peter (with the help of his crew) was easily the most efficient and welcoming host in my experience. Horeke is not the easiest place to run a hotel began in 1833 and surrounded by farm land and the Hokianga Harbour. Dinners were fantastic and accompanied with a lot of proud history and tales from the operator who has 20+ years experience not just running the business but personally renovating the hotel itself and the accommodation we stayed in, a separate house built over the water in 1924. The crew ensured that the logistics of the cycle trail transport which we had come to ride were executed smoothly and efficiently. Perfect.

Nine of us arrived at Horeke—ready for the adventure ahead. Thanks to the exceptional team here, our Twin Coast Trail experience was smooth, memorable, and full of joy.|Both days on the trail were superbly planned. Our eBikes were arranged in advance, routes were clearly explained, and every detail was handled with quiet precision.|Oli, the manager, kept everything running seamlessly— calm, capable, and always helpful.|Pete, the owner, greeted us with warmth, humour, and great stories. And Anthony, our shuttle driver, was rock-solid—punctual, cheerful, and always ready when we needed him.|The rooms were comfortable, the meals delicious, and the harbour view—something to pause for.|But above all, it was the hospitality—thoughtful, generous, and genuine—that made our time here truly special.|Thank you for an unforgettable stay.

This is a brilliant place to stay. Could not fault it. Historic Hotel beautifully restored right on the water. Food and service was impeccable. We based ourselves here for the Twin Coast Cycle Trail and they run shuttles for the bikes both drop off and pick up. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Just awesome.

Great getaway even in mid-winter. Don't let the weather stop you. We stayed 3 nights with the wonderful hosts Peter & Lauren. Anthony was our trusty van driver getting us to Kaikohe two mornings in a row for us to ride both parts of the Twin Coast Cycle Trail. Besides the beautiful historic building which is cleverly concealed by looking almost average from outside, the tranquility of the view from our room was truly relaxation at it's best. The bath was a welcome pleasure at the end of each riding day, not to mention the beautiful sunsets that somehow made an average photo taker outstanding. We were then greeted with great meals prepared by Peters son & nephew. Keep up the great customer service Olly!! Great place for a group of keen riders or relaxers.

Overall we loved our stay in this charming old hotel. Don't confuse boutique with luxury as some parts are a bit rundown as you might expect from a building this historic. But comfy enough and Peter the host is pretty personable. He bent over backwards to sort out a small misunderstanding on price of the package we were on. He was generous and genuine in handling this. Not something you get everywhere. We recommend.

A fabulous, unique hotel. As a group of six we hired e bikes from the hotel to ride the Ōkaihau to Horeke cycle way.|The rooms were comfortable & beautifully presented. We loved the home cooked meals and history shared by Pete our host.|Best sticky date pudding I’ve ever had.
