So much luxury when you consider where this place is! We hiked up there to have lunch and hiked back. Food was really good and service too considering how much effort it is for the staff to get to work! Some of the best views ever for lunch. If you can handle heights and are fit hiking here for the day it is well worth it. Most people there seem to be gearing up to summit the Matterhorn but some are day trippers like we were.

Best food our entire Switzerland trip. We asked for an upgrade to a private room last minute when we arrived and the staff was very nice in accommodating us since they did have some extra space. Very nice facility especially considering location.

We’ve been to quite a few huts and this is honestly quite a luxurious hut. It’s also a little pricier than what you would pay on average for a night stay at a hut but still, the location at the foot of the Matterhorn is pure magic. There is paid showers and also private room with your own toilet/shower. You also need to be aware of the deposit that is non refundable when booking, which is unlike other huts you go to. But we enjoyed our stay and the views greatly. The hike up was fun but really busy on a weekend afternoon. Food was typical hut food, not the best we’ve had but was good enough. Water is expensive but surprisingly not the most expensive we’ve ever paid for, which was 15CHF for 1.5L at a few other huts. More pictures of our hike and stay on my IG @kiwi.lay.and.egg

Came up here for lunch, the hike was good fun (and snowy!) but you need to be a competent hiker. The food was good and big portions, and it was the cheapest menu we found in Zermatt.

Absolutely amazing to climb up to and stay in a hut actually on the Matterhorn. Remarkably steep final 350 m ascent, but very well protected. This site serves a lot of people – mobs of day hikers when I got there early afternoon, and then many climbers and guides in the evening. Given the scale of the operation, the staff remains remarkably cheerful and helpful. And this hut had the best food of any in my two weeks of Alpine hiking! And it was inspiring to hang out with people who just successfully summitted.

Great location and challenging hike to get to the hut, very high up so not an easy trial. Weather unpredictable. Great bathrooms, you could pay 6CHF for 3 minutes of hot shower (cash only). Water in tap not safe for drinking unless you use purifying tablets like in all huts around Matterhorn. Shared rooms for 4/6 or more people. Warm and well run shelter. Breakfast very good. Dinner substantial. Indoor crocs provided. Knowledgeable staff able to advise on the weather etc. Just what a shelter should be!

A wonderful place to stay. Spent one night here on the way up to summit the Matterhorn. It has hot showers (need to pay for a token) and good food. The staff were very nice. They had WiFi which was amazing. We shared a room of 6 but there were only four in our room. When we got back from summiting the Matterhorn we had a lovely welcome and congrats from the owner, his wife, and other staff members. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your wonderful accommodation.

We didn’t stay overnight but simply hiked up to the hutte to enjoy the view! Right next to the Matterhorn!! The hike up was difficult for me but great to see the variety of people making the ascent! The house made iced tea was delicious along with their rosti! Yummm! Really cool experience!

Yelp
The Hörnlihütte was our hiking destination. We spent all day trekking up from Zermatt, mot knowing exactly what to expect here. After a grueling trudge up, we arrived to a newly finished deck area, and a very clean and modern looking restaurant/hotel. The receptionist up front was very friendly, and explained that it was her first day on the job. Cool place to work! We bought a cappuccino, a candy bar, and a powerade for an obscene amount of Franc. She explained that everything was helicoptered up. Makes sense. We were wondering what kind of burly mountain men were hauling this stuff up. Prices made total sense after we learned this. We wandered out into the dining room, and had a seat at a table overlooking the Alps. Truly a great place to relax before heading down. I can't imagine it's cheap to stay the night. The receptionist checked in on us, and kindly took our photo. What a place, though. It's a great destination (and hardly a "hut"), but if you're going up there for the coffee, don't expect perfection. Also, there's a 20 Franc minimum for using a card. You don't have to buy much to hit that.
