Google
We searched for the best Sunday roast in the Cotswolds and the Horse and Groom came up as an option. It was a forty minute drive for us, but the food looked excellent so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. My partner had a lovely prawn cocktail and I had the soup. The bread was incredible. The Sunday roast came with both chicken and beef, served with rich gravy and potatoes that tasted as if they had been cooked with a little magic. The pub has a cosy, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. My only comment is that a few members of staff seemed to lack that extra touch of warm hospitality when we first arrived. That said, we were soon looked after by a lady with very cool and funky hair who had only been there for a week. She was first class and made our visit very enjoyable.

Came for a lunch as I have heard good things about the food and it did not disappoint. The quality of food was exceptional with good portions at a very fair price. Service was friendly and welcome without be pretentious or overbearing. Will definitely be coming back again in the near future. Would highly recommend the celeriac and mushroom pie for anyone visiting.

What an absolutely wonderful experience at Horse and Room! We had dinner here this evening with our two little ones. The atmosphere was warm, inviting and full of charm. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive especially kind and patient with the children, which we truly appreciated. The children’s meals were spot on, and it was lovely to be able to relax and enjoy our own dinner. In short, Horse and Room is an absolute gem, perfect for families as well as anyone who enjoys good food in a relaxed and welcoming setting. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Went for a Sunday roast and hands down one of the best I've ever had. Exactly the right portion sizes, the food itself was delicious and a fair value. The views are great too. Pub has a fire which kept everyone warm and even had a dog curled up next to it. Would recommend and will be back.

We had the most delicious Sunday roast here a year ago and still haven’t found anywhere else in the Cotswolds that comes close to how much we enjoyed it here! It’s a little on the pricier side but you should know that going in, wherever you book, and we can safely say that it is absolutely worth it! It’s not often you go out for a roast where every single part of the meal tastes delicious in its own right - the chef clearly cares about every element of the dish! The lamb was beautifully tender and just fell apart with the touch of a fork, red cabbage was perfectly spiced, roast potatoes were crispy of the outside and fluffy on the inside - just as they should be - and the cauliflower cheese actually tasted cheesy! The desserts were amazing and felt so decadent! If you’re looking for the type of Sunday that will go down as one of your favourite memories, make sure you treat yourself to a roast at The Horse & Groom!

Google
A little slow to get seated but that's all there is bad to say about the horse and groom. We went for a Sunday roast, and it was brilliant, our party of 5 all enjoyed their meals, with them being generous in portion. I would suggest booking the pub as it can get quite busy and has limited seating.

Google
Food was lovely but staff need to be overhauled and trained in hospitality. Cold, un accommodating and looked like they didn’t want to be there. Had to ask to order drinks, food, desserts and the bill. Clearing and re-setting tables was prioritised over interacting with paying customers. Asked for the service charge to be taken off and wasn’t challenged… which says it all. Wouldn’t return which is a shame because the food was genuinely high quality and delicious!

Google
Brilliant pub. Food is excellent. A main is around £20. Definitely book for lunch time, but this is much more nice than eating in Moreton. Plus it did help that there was a celebrity wedding lunch happening at the same time. If they chose to come here, it must be good

Yelp
I enjoyed the food during my stay at Horse & Groom - both dinner and breakfast. The dining room almost had a 'locals only' feel, inviting and comfortable. Our room was well appointed and clean but the carpet, furniture, and lighting felt a little worn out. Also the walls seemed to transmit sound easily, as we could hear footsteps and conversation clearly outside the building and in the hallway between rooms.

Yelp
We spent one night at Horse & Groom during a week-long walking trip in the Cotswolds. Horse & Groom was conveniently located between villages and offered a pub menu that caught our eye. During our brief stay, we had both breakfast and dinner. The restaurant was lovely. The room was a bit on the tired side and seemed like it could use a little refresh/TLC. If you're looking for the classic Pub & overnight setting, this is a great answer. Cozy pub with a handful of rooms.

Yelp
This pub is located at the top of the hill on Moreton on the marsh. I came two years ago with different proprietors that put this pub on the map for their outstanding food which was 5/5. They won so many accolades for their cuisine. My new visit in Jan 2020 now has new proprietors. I ordered a lamb roast which was lovely, but no where near the previous standard. I also tried their sticky toffee pudding which was also good. Still worth a visit though

Yelp
Great pub, one of best we visited in Cotswolds. We ate the fish and chips and the tagliatelle with zucchini (courgette) and mushrooms. We also ordered side salads. Everything was delicious and service was super friendly and helpful. Topped things off with a wonderful lemon tart. If in Cotswolds again, this will be a stop.

Yelp
This place really is the quintessential English countryside experience. It's both a pub and has a few rooms. We stayed in one of the rooms during our visit to the Cotswolds. I liked the location bc it was in one of the smaller villages, which is mainly residents. In fact I think the H&G is the only business in Bourton-on-the Hill. The "hill" part is no joke. It's midway up a steep hill with a great view of the fields and meadows below. However, it's only two miles to the larger and more commercial Moreton in Marsh, where there's a whole array of restaurants, markets, cafes, and inns. It's a good walking distance if you're up to it, which we did a few times. However, if walking isn't your thing, you may find that having a car is easier if you do want to stay here, as the public transit is limited; though we were able to figure out the bus schedule and took a bus to Bourton on the Water, which is toted as one of the must see villages of the Cotswolds. The H&G is about 50 yards to the bus stop; however, the bus only comes 3 times a day, so you really have to time things right. The inn is also about 1/2 mile to the Bourton House and Batsford Arboretum and falconry. We checked out the falconry, and it is excellent. There is a nice garden behind the inn where you can enjoy a drink and snacks on a nice day. We ate dinner at the pub both nights we stayed, and the food is world class. (Note if you stay here and do not have a car, you will likely need to have dinner here, as the last bus from Moreton is around 5:00). The menu is mainly traditional English food with more modern execution. I had a lamb one night and steak the next night, and really enjoyed them. Also the asparagus and pea soup is wonderful. Being a pub they also have an extensive drink selection, as you can imagine. The room we stayed in was nice, spacious and it had windows that opened up onto the garden. However, it seemed a little worn through. The coffee service provided in the room was a bit dirty and some of the furniture was chipped. The light in the bathroom is turned on via a long string that hangs down from the ceiling. The string broke the first night we were there and was not fixed after we let the staff know. So we ended up having to pull in a light from the bedroom to use in the bathroom. It also got a bit stuffy in the room, even with all the windows open, and no fan was provided. The cleaning service also failed to restock toilet paper for the second night we were there, and it was starting to run low. Breakfast was included in the room price, and was quite good. They have a small buffet of cereals, yogurt, and pastries, juice and milk that you help yourself to, as well as hot dishes and coffee made to order. Overall, I enjoyed staying here and visiting the Cotswolds, though I feel the quality of the establishment as a restaurant is higher than the quality as a lodging.

Yelp
We ate here twice during our recent stay in Bourton-on-the-Hill. The food is excellent and lives up to the recommendation we found in The Telegraph for great food in the Cotswolds. The menu changes daily. We had a duck entree, fish and chips, a vegetarian entree with polenta and goats cheese, and a grilled fish entree, as well as the sticky toffee pudding. All was excellent, particularly the duck, fish and chips, and pudding. Service is a little bit slow, but very friendly.

Yelp
We met here for a family dinner based on the reviews and expected more of a gastro pub experience... Most of what we had was good, but it did depend on what you had... the fish (hake) was really fabulous, but the chips were 'meh' (not proper chips but french fries unfortunately)... the Sunday roast was good, but the roast potatoes were apparently not the best... Desserts were great (the Treacle Tart was excellent!)... The staff were really good and extremely friendly, the environment was lovely (rustic traditional pub) and overall it was a good experience, but not everything was as good as we expected it to be based on the reviews we read. We would recommend, but your experience may depend on what you order... ;-)

Yelp
We had a fantastic lunch today at Horse and Groom in Moreton-In-Marsh. Like most of the Cotswolds, this is quaint and adorable. The Inn has a lovely restaurant with traditional British fare and some o ther unusual dishes. I had a fried chorizo with chick pea paste and toasted flatbread. The chorizo was spicy and tasty, which made for a great appetizer. I paired it with a side dish of the day's veggies, some terrific steamed shredded carrots and swede. (I've never had swede before but wikipedia later let me know it's related to a rutabaga!) My dining companion had moroccan lamb meatballs with tomato and apricot couscous. This is a pub in that you order at the bar from a menu on the chalkboard, but it's a nice restaurant in it's decoration and service. Yummy, delicious, and definitely worth a stop!

Yelp
Our dinner here was lovely and the owner Simon was engaging. We had a lovely experience! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The only place I've ever eaten where I've enjoyed the vegetables just as much as I did the meat or fish part of the meal. The service is attentive and friendly, the food is absolutely delicious -among the best you'll find in the Cotswolds and if you're lucky enough to eat there on a sunny day you'll experience the joys of a truly lovely garden. Outside dining with children is a particularly happy event as the chickens provide a seemingly endless source of amusement. Don't go to the North Cotswolds without paying this place a visit - booking advisable.
