Google
This is such an amazing place! There's prints, stickers, cards, bags etc etc all by a variety of artists. I picked a few prints and stickers to take home. The employee was wonderful and made the experience even better. So glad we stumbled across this shop during a recent trip to Asheville. This is a must visit!

Google
Horse and Hero is now my favorite place to buy art from local artists! There is a great variety of artists with their art at reasonable prices. I found several pieces that I can't wait to display in my home 🖤 I will definitely be back again!

Google
This place is a GEM and I love all the art they have. The couple times I've been, the staff have been AMAZING - kind, patient, personable. I can't walk in there without wanting SOME sort of art. And there's plenty of sizes available of all types!

Google
I LOVE this shop! They've made finding & buying local, handmade goods easy and fun. It's like having all the most creative items you might find in a 2880x Etsy search all pulled together in one room (with good music to boot). The inventory they carry is amazing and always changing.

Google
Another occasion where the attendant behind the counter was too busy with doom scrolling to look up and simply acknowledge someone standing in front of them. Noon on a Friday. Couldn’t buy anything if I threw cash at them.

Google
I'm so happy I stumbled upon this art gallery during my last trip to Asheville. Everything is priced very fair, & affordable for your average consumer- which was so exciting, as I could actually afford to splurge on a few items! All the art is so unique, and fun to look at. I will definitely be returning soon!

Google
From a distance, this shop is deceiving. We passed by while walking on the other side of the street but what was displayed in the window didn't strike us as interesting. However, on our return, we passed directly in front and were intrigued. Upon entering, we were blown away by the variety of unique art. There were so many cool things to check out. Definitely will return and will seek out more info about all the artists.

Google
This place is a vibe. Amazing friendly consultant, unlike in a lot of other galleries/ shops. And the art pieces are something so special 🫶🏻

Yelp
The times I've been to Asheville I always stop in this shop and also always buy something. It's a fun store with a variety of artworks including figurines, art prints, cards, apparel and more. One can easily spend a good while in here checking out this shop. My husband managed to find an artist here he really enjoys (Edwin Salas) and has since been supporting his work since the last time we visited Asheville 3 years ago. Most recently he bought another piece at the shop since they are still selling the artist's work. If you're an art lover Horse and Hero should been on your list to shop.

Yelp
What a fun shop! My eyes had so much to take in, from art prints, sculptures, cards, jewelry, glassware and more. I'm so glad that we stopped in this store during our trip to Asheville. Horse & Hero also seemed to carry local artists -- definitely something to love. I ended up buying a Game of Thrones-themed glass to give to my husband. It was moderately-priced; I couldn't pass it up! I also loved how the items in this shop keep you on your toes. One second you're looking at a beautiful print that would look good in your living room. And the next, you glance up to see mini sculptures made to look like severed fingers. There is joy to this shop. It's easy to see the shop owner has fun curating the wares. When I come back to Asheville, I definitely want to come back here.

Yelp
So cute! One thing I love about Asheville is the abundance of art, both local and international, that has been curated and brought together in this beautiful town! I bought several stickers, as well as a few butterfly prints for a friend. I would totally recommend Horse and Hero to anyone visiting Asheville!

Yelp
I love this place. I lived in Asheville for a little over a year and I came to this shop several times. It has a lot of great things including cards, stickers, bandanas, magnets, etc etc which I bought both for myself and as gifts. I'm planning on passing through Asheville next month and will stop by this great, fun and funky store for sure.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots here. Hip and eclectic local art in a convenient downtown spot, and super friendly owner and staff. I love it.

Yelp
Horse & Hero is an eclectic, unique and fun art store located in the heart of downtown Asheville. As the other reviews note, Horse & Hero carries a large selection of art prints, jewelry, cards, shirts, and stickers, all designed by local NC artists. We were browsing downtown Asheville and this art store popped out and caught my eye! It is very warm, welcoming, and you definitely feel the "Asheville-vibe" once you walk in. There are a large variety of large and small prints, with something for everyone. I love the landscape designs and there are unique animal drawings and prints. Some of the smaller pieces range from $20-40, while the larger prints cost more. If you're looking for some cool, artsy stickers and jewelry, they are mostly located at the front desk where you check-out. This is a great art store with amazing pieces for everyone!

Yelp
This is a graphic art shop with local arts and prints. It has everything from postcards to wall art. All different price points-lots of great posters and little gifts too.

Yelp
Horse + Hero is one of the best local art shops in Asheville. They specialize in "in neoappalachian art and craft that is design-minded, worldwise and rooted in the craftways and culture of our southern Appalachian mountains." In my words, they carry a bunch of super bad ass illustrative and colorful artwork that is really fun and complex and weird and crazy. They carry artwork by some of my favorite local artists such as Alli Good, Hannah Dansie, Julie Armbruster and Maxx Feist. The shop is pretty small but they have a ton of awesome artwork packed in there. They sell everything from local jewelry, postcards, prints, original artwork, pins, stickers, t-shirts and more. The staff on duty is usually really friendly and helpful and want to make sure that you find something that you really love. Whether you come in here with $5 to spend on art or $500+ on art, you can find something to take home.

Yelp
Great shop filled with fantastic local art. Here you'll find original art, mixed media, sculpture, letterpress paper goods/cards, magnets, t-shirts, and more. Plus prints for every room in your house, from the kitchen to living room, etc. All priced really moderately, especially for original pieces. Makes for unique gifts or a little something for yourself. A must stop if you're traveling and interested in getting a feel for the local art scene or if you want to support local artists and makers.

Yelp
Awe-inspiring gallery filled with a diverse range of local Asheville artists. Definite must visit if you're downtown! Beautiful, cool, and funky artwork at every price point.

Yelp
We popped in here to see what kind of local art Asheville had to offer. Horse & Hero doesn't disappoint! There's something here for all tastes! The artists showcased here were all so talented and I had to stop myself from blowing my tourist budget. We grabbed a print, some magnets, and some stickers. The man who I believe was the owner caught that it was our honeymoon and he hooked us up with some stickers, he was so sweet! This place was so cool and introduced me to some great artists. I can't wait to hang my piece and we are in love with our sticker souvenirs!

Yelp
Love, love, love this store! Amazing local art shop/gallery with art you can actually afford to own! Whether you want to spend $18 on a nice woodcut print you can frame or $200 on an original oil painting, this is the place! The space is bright, airy and the walls are jam packed with awesome original artwork! Browse, buy and support local artists!

Yelp
Really cool shop with interesting, affordable art, prints, and t-shirts.

Yelp
A great artsy shop to stop by if you're in the area waiting on a table at a nearby restaurant! I found a few cards and art prints that I loved and wish I could've bought even more! The prints are beautiful and nicely curated. This is a lovely store for anyone who loves stationery and little kitchsy artsy items.

Yelp
Cool store! Good mix of art styles and subjects. Probably find something for everyone. Lex was knowledgeable about the area and helped point me towards some other interesting shops. Will return when I'm in Asheville again.

Yelp
I love it when a chance stop into a shop leads to glasses of wine with fellow shoppers, chatting it up with the owner and walking out with handfuls of wonderful goodies. The vibe is very modern-art-museum-gift-shop, but the art in this store is so well curated and very reasonably priced. My boyfriend walked out with a couple of medium-sized $20 illustrations for his office. We spotted a lot of framed works for under $100. That is a downright steal for original art. I took home some quirky magnets to give to family. Yes! High and low, you will find very special locally made items. Horse & Hero is a now a must-stop every time we return to Asheville.

Yelp
Awesome local art-- mainly prints and paintings. So much good stuff. If letterpress prints and local art is your jam, come pick up a piece of work!

Yelp
Horse and hero is a moderately sized store located in the heart of downtown. You can't miss it because it is painted a vibrant blue, setting it apart from the businesses surrounding it. They carry art from creators in both Asheville and North Carolina as a whole and I promise you won't leave empty handed! From large and small prints, to signs, cards, jewelry and tee shirts, they have something you probably never knew you needed. If you are browsing downtown, it's always worth it to stop in here because the inventory is constantly growing and changing so there is an opportunity to discover new artists and support local craft makers. With a small staff, you can expect to be welcomed warmly anytime you visit. I think this store embodies the heart of Asheville.

Yelp
Great variety of wonderful art! The shop is set up with a nice flow and almost museum like atmosphere. Loved it! So glad we found this gem!

Yelp
A beautiful store with beautiful artwork. Highly recommend! It's always a treat to visit this shop when visiting Asheville.

Yelp
This store is seriously awesome! It's expensive, but everything they sell is SO cute. Mostly they sell decor (paintings, little statues, etc.) but there are also other things like postcards and novelty items. The artwork is all local, so any money you spend here goes directly back to people in the community. It's a lot better than buying similarly styled artwork from corporate conglomerate Urban Outfitters down the street. The layout and displays remind me somewhat of a Hallmark store...but this ain't your grandma's decor shop. Everything is witty and unique and some of it is a bit strange in a good way. I would put almost every item in this store on my wish list if I could.

Yelp
Great art, polite progressive owner, and decent prices. I spent way too much, but I love art. I definitely plan on coming back. Cool place!

Yelp
I really loved this adorable store in downtown Asheville. I could have spent so much money there if I wasn't careful. I did walk away with a few moderately priced prints. The art selection is great--really unique work that appealed to my whimsical side.

Yelp
Horse & Hero is a located in a cool part of downtown Asheville. As you walk in you find a variety of prints, paintings and jewelry for anyone with eclectic taste. The employee behind the desk wasn't too overbearing which I appreciate for when I am trying to browse art and see if any pieces fit my taste. Something I particularly liked was a display in the back of women in science. This place is worth at least stopping by.

Yelp
This place has some really cool art, interesting jewelry and small gifts like t shirts and prints. I really loved the squirrel wearing a sweater smoking a pipe print, as well as some of the skull prints. Go by and check it out!

Yelp
Not a bad art selection, but the guy at the counter gave me incorrect change (shorted me $10), and got agitated when I asked about it. Five stars for the artists with work there, though.
