We love the Horton Bay General Store! Molly and Greg are a pleasure to work with. We tried their baguette sandwiches and will definitely go back for more! We also did their Shrimp Boil Dinner and thanks to all their effort it helped to make our event seamless!

New owners have updated the historic general store. Great place to grab coffee, lunch, ice cream or some cold beverages. Highly recommend!

Cute place to stop if you’re going through Horton Bay. Prices reflect the location but I could have spent a lot of time just looking. You may not be able to eat the sandwiches even though they are delicious, if you have sensitive teeth or jaws. The bread is HARD!

ℹ️ Nice shop , would be helpful to update their hours here for the season as it looks like they are closed after 9/1 for the season until June and most people probably wont take the extra step to read the website thinking its open. Posting so others know

Exploring the UP and needed to stop to use the bathroom. Little did I know this was no small time roadside shop. Has a lot of food items and souvenirs for a roadside mom & pop shop. Atmosphere was a cute small country rustic farm type. Ordered a vanilla milkshake and it was the best milkshake I’ve ever had. Perfectly blended together with great proportions. Though it’s 9$ it’s definitely worth it. 8/10 good souvenirs and milkshakes just a little expensive.

Wow! I am so glad we stopped! What a GEM! Seriously the most adorable store!!!!! The entire store is a showpiece to craftsmanship! So artfully set up, thought out and displayed! The muffin - also delish! Excited to make this a regular visit when in town!

Wow, it sure looks different!! In the 1980s, my best friend's family owned the store and lived upstairs. We used to run around that place all summer, grabbing Fireball jawbreakers and running down the road to the lake with our black inner tubes.

In a tucked away corner of Horton Bay is a quaint store which also serves shareable meals several nights a week. After seeing their sign we called and made reservations for Saturday night. We talked to the chef about our dietary restrictions and she assured us it wouldn't be an issue. Upon arriving we entered through a side door into the general store proper, which is just one large room with some items for sale (beer and wine) and other fun antiques to peruse. During the day they sell food things and coffee so next time we might try to check out their daytime options. We were greeted immediately and told to choose a beverage. If you choose wine just note you are purchasing the whole bottle. There is water on the table in case you don't find something to your liking, but as we didn't know that we chose wine. It was a bit much for two people to finish and then drive, so next time we would come with others or choose something smaller. Regardless the wine was a nice touch. The meal is served outside in a small garden like area surrounded by hedges so it feels intimate and secluded. You are right next to the other guests so there ends up being a lot of cross table taking/eavesdropping. The tables are iron and quite cute if a bit rickety. The menu is one page of shareable dishes (called tapas but if you are thinking Spanish tapas this is not that at all) at around $20 per item. There wasn't actually anything vegan on the menu but a few that could be vegetarian. Make sure to ask for additional options for sensitivities, as only afterwards when paying did the chef mention she could have done something vegan for us. We had mentioned it at the start of the meal but she was a bit distracted and said so eggs are ok right? Not wanting to cause a scene we agreed but I knew it wasn't going to end well for me. The salad was our favorite with pickled onions that were surprisingly tart and perfect with the other salad additions. We also ordered the frittata (as still hungry) which smelled delicious and had a nice creamy texture and gooey cheese. Then we got a pepper dish which was supposed to be a spread but was really more of a hash/stir fry. It was quite tasty and would have been a better option than the frittata for us. I loved the garden feel as you could hear the trees whispering above you and imagine you were in a fairy tale. The service was excellent and overall the experience was memorable and tasty. I did feel the food was a bit pricey for the portions, and perhaps if you bring children then each dish serves 4 but not adults who have been out hiking or active. It was worth the history and ambience for a fun experience. We might try another spot in the future but this is definitely worth checking out at least once for the overall evening experience.

Our family has been frequenting food Chip has been putting out since he opened up a Deli in Boyne City way back when. We have been enjoying the Tapas dinners at The Horton Bay General Store (aka Morgan's Restaurant) since it was introduced several years ago. This year our family was celebrating our father's 80th Birthday and not only did Chip host 19 of us (16 adults and 3 rug rats) on a busy night, he provided a delightful selection foods for our sail on Grand Traverse Bay with 50 family and friends. Chip cares about what he and his staff prepares, serves and how they treats their customers. Cannot ask for anything more than that! Thank you Chip, for all the wonderful meals and service over the years and for helping making our Dad's 80th birthday celebration a memorable experience for all!

This is a gem of a place! It's a throwback in time and worth the stop for a sandwich, fresh baked goods or better yet, an evening enjoying tapas! Chip and his staff work hard during the summer season to make the Store a great place to gather and enjoy. Call ahead for a tapa reservation as it's quite popular and can fill up quickly. Inside and outside seating is available.

Thank you Chip and staff for an amazing experience last night. We were celebrating a 50th birthday and had 11 people. Chip was so accommodating our large loud group. We handed over the menu and let the staff do their magic! Everything was amazing from the first course to the last! We walked out of there with happy full belly's and talked all the way home how awesome everything was. Don't pass this place by! You won't regret it thanks to the entire staff and can't wait to come by again.

You rarely stumble across a place like this! Their tapas night is something I would travel back for. Food quality was superb, some of the best I've had ever! Chefs should be very proud. Made a wonderful night for our family. Chip is a very humble guy with some great stories and hospitality. Overall can not recommend enough.

So far I have rated six restaurants in this area and all were three's. This is definitely a five star. It has the ambience and lacks pretentiousness or any flavor of trying to be more than they are. It is a absolutely wonderful setting and the food is unique and has wonderful flavors. We didn't even order meat but just chose the vegetarian dishes and it was excellent. You really have to make a reservation and try this place. It is all tapas and just delicious. And if you go earlier in the day, you really have to stop in next door at the Red Fox Inn. This is the place that we used to come as kids and had chicken and dumplings and a wonderful tomato pie. Never had anything like it sense. They closed in the mid-70s and a woman who used to be a waitress there, Mary Lynne, runs a memorabilia shop which includes a lot of memorabilia from Hemingway etc. They have great baseball cap with a Red Fox on it. If nothing else, you have to meet Mary Lynne.

Neat little store to visit. They have a nice selection of American foods available for breakfast and lunch. On Fri and Sat they serve tapas in the evening. Overall the food is really good. It's also a nice place to get coffee as well as the proceeds from the coffee goes towards the humane society. Lastly, there is a neat book store next door worth checking out as well. Overall a pretty nice experience.

Did it last weekend and have reservations for next weekend. The Horton Bay Store...a real piece of Americana...along with great tapas. Chip and his staff make every evening dining at the HBS a memorable one!

Reservations needed for this incredible backyard tapas spot. Beer & wine only. The food is exceptional & the history is amazing. Nothing else like it in nomich. Sometimes hard to get in, but absolutely worth it if you get a reservation.

Very nice Bed and Breakfast and good food as well. Great people running the place.

Make reservations for the Tapas dinner @ Horton Bay General Store. It feels like your oldest friends invited you over for dinner as you sit on a perfectly quant backyard patio. And the food wows at every course. We went with a group of 10 and ordered one of everything to share - the meatballs, duck and scallops had us wishing we ordered more but everything we tried was excellent! You buy wine/beer from the front general store so you don't have to pay the typical restaurant mark-ups. A true gem in northern Michigan and the hosts we so welcoming! We can't wait to go back.

We enjoyed a spectacular meal here - small tapas style dinner with excellent service and outstanding food and wine. A treat for all senses in a quaint garden setting!

What a cool place this is!!!! Its definitely a diamond in the rough that I could of just seen myself passing by. Unfortunately, we were a little late getting up and missed all the goodies that they sell in the morning. I cant remember exactly what I had. I think it was eggs, and they were awesome! Cool piece of history here. Love the decor and all the old pictures

This place is phenomenal!! The tapas sign is whimsically out on most Friday-sat& Sunday night in summer. Fantastic tapas make a delicious meal paired with remarkable wines that owner Chip spends his winters researching. Very few tables but truly fantastic dining experience!!!

This is such a cool place! It's worth a stop for the General Store. This is a cool old building full of Northern Michigan history. They also have a kitchen. The Tapas served on Fri-Sat-Sun are a real treat. The food is well thought out and always fresh! Make sure you call for reservations.

Another wonderful meal at Morgan's Tavern at the Horton Bay General Store. The chef, Darlene, who has been there for 6 years, makes wonderful creations. We sat outside in the little garden -- a perfect setting for the delicious tapas that arrived at our table. Do make a reservation, especially if you want to eat during the summer crush.

For the past three summers the Horton Bay General Store has been our favorite "go to" restaurant when entertaining friends new to the area. Everyone loves the quaint ambiance of the store, but the excellent small plates prepared by chef Darlene Kline are the reason we keep coming back. Always delicious!
