Hoshino Resorts Aomoriya

I have stayed at many high-end onsen hotels across Japan, so I arrived with certain expectations based on my previous experiences. During this stay, certain aspects felt a bit different from what I personally associate with this price range. I did not receive luggage assistance upon arrival, and we were not guided to our room. It seemed to me that the service flow might have been a little different from what I am familiar with at similar properties. The dinner was buffet-style, which may be suitable for many guests, but it was not what I personally expected for this category. The food options felt quite standard to me for the price. The room also felt a little aged from my perspective. Overall, this stay did not fully align with the level I usually anticipate for accommodations in this price range. This may simply come down to individual preferences, but based on this visit, I am not sure if this brand is the right fit for me in the future.

The Hoshino Resort is excellent for couples and families. If you’re traveling solo perhaps a different style resort would be better. We chose breakfast and dinner included and the food is really good, even though both meals are buffet style. The staff is excellent bd and professional. We were the only gaijin in the resort and we estimate that about 80% of the guests were Chinese charter tourists. The rest of the guests were Japanese. We enjoyed the stay very much, the spacious room and the meals being highlights.

I spent USD 600 per night to get the half board deal for two nights in the Onzen room, and it turned out that there was mould all over the bottom of the onzen bathtub. I understand it was the time that most of the Japan hotels are short of staff but this was really outrageous… I spoke to the staff when checked out, but apparently there was nothing they can do but saying penniless sorry. Further to the problem of short of staff, you could feel the quality of service was so bad that you didn’t even know how to begin for example there’s basically no room cleaning if you stayed more than a night , also no one would help with your luggage at the front gate not to mention to your room. The 2 starts here I gave to the restaurant and the park nearby but I’ll never come here again.

I stayed here during a work trip but this is definitely gear more towards families and tourists with all the inner-hotel events. They were out of western-style rooms so I had to take a traditional Japanese style which wasn’t too bad, but wasn’t the best for setting up a computer to take care of some work. I was not able to try out the restaurants as they always appeared to be very busy or require reservations so I just opted to eat elsewhere during my stay. - The parking lot near the hotel is very small and you need to get used to tell the staff you’re a customer everyday you park. - Your room key is an actual key on a wooden keychain, which is a little nostalgic but inconvenient too. - the grounds surrounding the hotel are beautiful and I enjoyed walking the loop around the pond/lake. - like the rest of traditional Japanese bath houses, if you have tattoos don’t expect to use them.

This is easily one of the best experiences you can have at a hotel. It’s actually more of a little theme park than a hotel. The room, the Onsen, the show, the bar, the restaurant, the staff… Literally everything here is top notch. I’ll cherish this memory for the rest of my life.

Honestly the worst experience I’ve ever had in Japan. From the get go - the line to check in is more than 20 minutes. You also need to stand in line to get into the restaurant for breakfast and dinner even if the reservations are made. It’s a huge circus - I’ve stayed at 200-room hotels in Japan many time. Never seen a place this disorganized. The front desk manager was mean to her own staff. I’d never return and start to consider avoiding Hoshino as a chain all together

I really didn't want to post this review but this hotel was so disappointing that I felt I had to share my experience. First, there is little to no English support. I luckily know a bit of Japanese but it wasn't enough to help with issues I had later in my stay. The room I stayed in was really beat up, the air conditioner didn't work well and the windows were single pane so the air traffic rattled the windows. The worst was that there was mold along all the edges of the windows. They state they're all inclusive but alcohol is an extra charge at dinner. I was expecting other charges for the shows but was surprised by the alcohol charges. There is only one bath that does not rotate. The large outdoor bath is nice and the indoor area is well maintained. The second public bath is in very bad shape and had mold on the ceiling and around the water fixtures. The Internet offered in the rooms was spotty and quit working completely after 9pm. The problems continued where the guests above me were very drunk and made a lot of noise until 2 am. I tried to contact the front desk but they did not understand my request and I didn't get a good rest because the air traffic noise started again at 7 am. Dinner was fine but the buffet food was definitely not anything special. The food felt very wet as if everything was steamed. Their breakfast was sad and only had old tasting scallops, ama ebi, and spicy cod roe for their seafood don. I felt bait and switched on this hotel. I had stayed at another all inclusive onsen during my stay in Japan and it was priced about 5000 yen more but was so much higher quality. By the time all the extra charges were added it was equal price but way worse of an experience. I don't recommend this place at all.

Absolute top tier food, service and facilities for anyone want to enjoy local cultures and relax. Recommend for those who wants to enjoy themselves for a few days in Aomori.

Very impressed with our 2-night stay at Aomoriya. This is our second Hoshino Resort stay... the other one was at Risonare Yatsugatake, which was okay, maybe 3.5 stars. Aomoriya is on another level! We booked the Japanese style room for family of 4 people, which has two twin beds on an elevated platform. Instead of simply laying down futons on the tatami flooring, the extra two beds are actual mattresses brought out from the room closet area. This makes it more comfortable sleep for the kids on the floor. We got the breakfast and dinner buffet included options, well worth the money. We love seafood and meat and the quality and presentation of ingredients are superb. You can reserve both breakfast and dinner buffet times (dinner I booked time online, breakfast I booked upon checking in at resort) so it's very nice to not have to wait and the restaurant was not crowded. Massage is reasonably priced. For two 40-min and one 60-min full body massages, the total came out to ¥15,000. I recommend stopping at the massage desk for booking immediately after you check in because the earlier times (earliest is 4pm) book up quickly. The famous apple faucet with free flowing apple juice on tap starts at 3pm (website says 2pm). There are other activities at the 1F Jawamegu Hiroba plaza, like scallop fishing, candied apple decorating and arts and crafts available at different times at additional cost. We went to the Michinoku Matsuri performance (extra cost). Honestly if you have watched a similar Haneto jumping/dancing performance already at Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse, you can skip the resorts performance. Overall glad we are spending 2 nights here. Being that typhoon is landing south of us near Iwate Prefecture, there's activities and spaces to spread out for guests so we wouldn't get bored. Definitely recommend!

This resort hotel is located just outside of a small town called Misawa in Aomori Prefecture. From the train station, there is a free shuttle bus which takes you to the hotel property. Run by the Hoshino group they own and operate hotels throughout Japan. What I really love about this hotel is the amazing hospitality. From the moment that you walk into the hotel lobby, they treat you with the outmost of outgoing and welcoming personality. The hotel consists of numerous onsen baths which is not uncommon in Japan but the main onsen has an incredible backdrop to the outside. The resort also includes restaurants, shops, and depending on the hotel package, a dinner show as well. One of the main features of this resort however is the pond, shrine, and traditional buildings creating a very picturesque and photogenic area. Overall, this is a very recommend a place to stay if you want the upmost in hospitality, food, and onsen.
