Hostel Dodero

Quaint hostel tucked on the outside of town. Walkable to many restaurants and a supermarket nearby. Worked well as a stopover on our way to the airport. Rooms were clean and staff were helpful and nice. Only cold showers though. Overall solid hostel. This review has been edited - they cleared up confusion about an early morning transit situation. Hostel Dodero was the perfect home base for my 9-day Costa Rica getaway. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel like family—always cheerful, genuinely helpful, and on top of keeping every corner sparkling clean. Their local tips were gold ➝ they pointed me to hidden hangout spots and adventures I never would’ve found on my own. The location couldn’t be better: both main bus terminals are a quick five-minute stroll, which made day-tripping effortless, and there’s a huge variety of sightseeing, beaches, waterfalls, and outdoor thrills within half an hour. Whether I was off zip-lining at dawn or lounging in a nearby café, I knew I had a welcoming, spotless place to return to. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better stay. If you’re looking for a friendly, well-run hostel that doubles as a springboard to all the fun Guanacaste has to offer, book Hostel Dodero—you’ll be glad you did!

Close to public transit but surprisingly quiet. Strict quiet hour rules which I appreciated. The rooms were interesting as there was a vent gap opening at the base of the wall and office styles open window gaps above the doors which had complete flow to the entire building. There was a very attentive onsite manager. Property was clean.

I stayed here multiple times during my time in CR as I took the bus from Liberia to other places in the country more than once. It’s located a block or two away from the bus stations, in a safe area near a grocery store and the gate is always locked for security. The owners of the hostel are very friendly and helpful. There is a decent kitchen in the back and a few hammocks to chill out in. There is free coffee and oatmeal for breakfast. I stayed in private rooms which were clean and had fans and TVs. The bathrooms were like typical hostel bathrooms, and fairly clean. Overall good stay!

Dear backpackers, it's The best place you will find in liberia, it is small but the price is good and the owner is really helpfull and nice, the energy is positive and a lot of other travelers to meet

It was an overall good stay! The room was fine, nothing fancy (fan but no A/C). There's a kitchen, shared bathrooms, and some hammocks. The gate is always locked which we found nice for security. The staff were very nice and accommodating.

Great place to stay, and super accommodating staff. If I come back through Liberia I would stay with them again!

Low priced. Safe enough area. Shared rooms are decent but this will depend more on your roommates than the room itself. One of the hosts was great but the other made a couple rude comments to my girlfriend and I for literally no reason (we were just sitting on our beds chatting about the next day not talking to him or anyone else). Edit to respond to owner: Yikes guys. You got the wrong group. We were out at 6.30a before the rest of the people in the room were awake. Not sure who you're talking about but this was from a few weeks ago. No, the comment I was talking about was in regards to not belonging in CR. Dropped another star because you're obviously more interested in arguing than treating people kindly. Didn't update anything of original review and have screenshots of owner original reply.
