"Style Maxed-out majesty Setting Near Ribeira’s rise Explore More hotels in Porto More hotels in Portugal A modern take on a Portuguese period drama might look a little like Hospes Infante Sagres : stained-glass stairwells, croc-leather-embossed vintage lifts and a flirtation with maximalism at every turn. Refreshed by local designers, it’s grand but never stuffy — with mural-adorned rooms, a breezy rooftop plunge pool and restaurant Scarlett downstairs for oysters and Douro Valley wines. Not a Five-Star Hotel This stay fell well below five-star standards. The internet was unreliable, and I had no cell phone reception in my room, which made even basic communication difficult. Despite arriving at the confirmed 3:00 PM check-in time, I waited 30 minutes for my room, with no flexibility offered despite availability. The rooms are dated rooms and utilize super annoying light switches. The location is great. Breakfast was not included, and while my Hilton status MAY have qualified me for a complimentary breakfast, I chose not to ask. Given the overall level of disappointment with the hotel, I felt I would have a better breakfast elsewhere. Housekeeping entered my room three times without warning—once about an hour after check-in and twice the following morning. The interior door lock did not work, so I positioned my suitcase in the doorway simply to make it clear the room was still occupied. While waiting to check in I found it bizarre , that some arriving guests were welcomed with wine and cookies, others with nothing at all. It was also frustrating that the hotel locks its doors at night, leaving guests dependent on a bellman to enter or exit. Overall, the experience was disorganized, intrusive, and does not reflect a five-star hotel. I would not return.

The reception area was a bit confusing, I initially thought the security counter was the reception, but the actual one is inside the room. The hotel itself is old but has a charming, aesthetic vibe and is a pretty cool place to stay in Porto. The breakfast was good, and the location is great. The pool is on the smaller side, and I didn’t get to use it since the weather wasn’t ideal during my stay. It also has a unique old fashioned elevator with a couch, which added to the experience. Overall, it was a cool stay, though they mentioned they’d give me banana bread, and I never received it.

We look for a hotel which is:||centrally located||near a variety of restaurants||in a safe area||is highly rated by other travelers||This hotel fulfilled all those criteria and more. An ample breakfast was included, service was welcoming and a special shout out to the extremely patient and helpful concierges, Rui and Jorge, for all their assistance. The metro is very close by, as is one of the main train stations.||As a bonus, the hotel interior is over the top beautiful and the rooms have been recently renovated. More storage space would be appreciated.||Having said all that, we will be candid about a few details which need to be told, if we are totally honest. ||Don't expect much from the pool. It is postage stamp size.||For a five star hotel which this is, we would expect better towels. They were frayed, threadbare, rough and stained on one occasion.||Our final point is something to be aware of, but we don't know what the hotel can do about it. The restaurants nearby are terrific and numerous. Unfortunately, the noise and revelry from these establishments is unacceptably loud at all hours of the night on a random basis. Perhaps this is why the hotel provides a kit which includes ear plugs. Some nights were fine, but others were very noisy. Perhaps it would be a good idea to contact the hotel to find out which rooms are quieter before making reservations.

My wife, daughter and I had a three night stay here. I booked through the AMEX Fine Hotels and Resorts program. I booked a Junior Suite to make sure that we had room for a rollaway bed. The FHR program has benefits such as free daily breakfast, 4pm checkout, upgrade if available at checkin, early checkin and a property credit.||When we arrived at the hotel around noon we were told that their WiFi was down and they couldn't check us in. That wasn't a big deal as we had anticipated that. They took my mobile number and said they would contact us when the room was available for checkin; we went out and explored. Our first impression of the hotel from the lobby was that it was very nice and boutique-y.||We went out to explore Porto and have lunch. Around 6:00, with most of the sites closing, we made our way back to the hotel. We had never received a phone call so I thought that perhaps our room would not be ready; it was but no phone call was received. When we checked in the agent went over all of the FHR benefits with us. She said we were elegible for an upgrade and that we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite. I pointed out that I had booked that, really more to let her know that they hadn't done us a favor by giving us the room I booked. She said oh, let me look. Yes, you will have a Junior Suite. Our bags had been delivered to the room already which is nice.||We were in room 401. It was off on its own with no real view to speak of and down a maintenance hallway with a light that was motion triggered; it was dark every time we went in or out of the room. It was right next the staff elevator and a maid closet. We would hear the elevator but it ended up not disturbing our sleep. ||Our bags were simply stacked up by the door; they weren't put on a luggage rack and there weren't extra luggage racks provided. The room was adequate but smallish, similar to the jr. suite we had in Lisbon. There was a couch and small sitting area. My daughters bed was placed right in front of the door against the wall underneath some windows. It took us a while to figure out how to get the room warm. I had someone come up to help with this; he told us to turn it all the way up because it wouldn't actually get to that temperature.||The bathroom was ok. It had a single sink and sliding doors. The shower was in the tub, and the tub was a very high step to get into it. It was a bit slick when showering but the pressure and temperature were good.||We used the concierge to arrange for a car to the airport on our checkout date. I would have booked it myself, but we needed to leave at 4AM and I wanted to have someone with whom the hotel had worked.||Breakfast was good. We ate the buffet and ordered eggs since they had the runny scrambled eggs so common in Europe.||The hotel bar really isn't a hotel bar IMO. It is adjacent to the hotel and connected with a hallway. I think it is called Scarlett. We ended up eating dinner three times there because we were so tired and didn't want to explore. I'll review that place separately, but the service was lacking each night.||We didn't have much interaction with the staff after checkin, save for one time. The night before we left I went to the concierge with whom I had corresponded to confirm my ride. I said that I had arranged for a ride for the next morning through 'you' and wanted to confirm; he somewhat bruskly put his phone down and asked if I had talked to his colleague at the front desk. I said no, because I booked through the concierge. It just felt dismissive. ||Would I return here? Well, I don't see myself going to Porto again. If I did, I think I would probably look for a different hotel. This wasn't a bad stay, but it just didn't feel incredibly 'luxury' though I can't quite put my finger on it.

We recently stayed at Hospes Infante Sagres for our wedding celebrations, including hosting our mehndi event at the hotel, and we cannot put into words how exceptional our experience was—thanks almost entirely to Ana Christine and her incredible management. From the very beginning, Ana went above and beyond in every single way. Planning a wedding from abroad is complicated, but she managed every detail with such ease, professionalism, and care that it felt effortless on our end. We had a large group of guests staying at the hotel as well as renting the venue for our celebration, which could have easily become overwhelming, yet Ana made the entire process seamless. She coordinated logistics flawlessly—accommodations, vendor communications, event setup, and the endless moving pieces that come with a cultural wedding celebration. More importantly, she did it all with warmth, kindness, and genuine care. It never once felt transactional; it felt like she truly cared about our experience, our guests’ comfort, and the success of our special day. Every challenge that arose, Ana solved with a smile and a calm confidence that immediately reassured us. She anticipated needs before we even voiced them, provided thoughtful recommendations, and always made herself available, no matter the time. Her attention to detail was impeccable, and she took ownership of everything so that we could actually relax and enjoy the celebration with our loved ones. Our guests were equally impressed—not just by the beauty of the hotel, but by how cared for they felt under Ana’s management. From check-in to the event itself, every single guest commented on how smooth and welcoming the experience was. Hospes Infante Sagres is a beautiful venue in its own right, but what made our stay truly unforgettable was Ana’s dedication, heart, and professionalism. She turned what could have been a stressful, complex wedding weekend into something magical, easy, and full of joy. We are endlessly grateful to her and could not recommend both the hotel and Ana highly enough. If you are planning an event or even just considering a stay, trust us—you will be in the very best hands with Ana Christine.

This is my fourth stay in a Hospes Hotel. Unfortunately this was booked before we stayed in the Hospes Madrid in June 2025. The bookings were based on some good experiences in Hospes Valencia around 2022/2023|This looks like a nice building, refurbished by the Hospes Group.|Again, the problem here was noise. My wife had explicitly requested a quiet room, in advance by email. The windows in the hotel are not of a quality to exclude the outside nightlife noise. We had a premium room, but appear to have been put in the a noisy room on the first floor, facing the front of the hotel where motorcycle food delivery drivers congregate on the plaza. We were moved to a different room on the final night but that was no better. If you are noise sensitive, this is not a good choice. ||Lots of little maintenance & service issues. For example, no clothes irons available for guests. ||Reception service is poor. Mostly just one person, so if a few people arrive together they simply have to wait. Maybe 15, 20 minutes. Unacceptable in a "luxury hotel"||Breakfast in in a beautiful room, but badly run. ||Terrible coffee machines making poor coffee, slow, requiring regular intervention. Not good enough for any hotel, least of all a 5-star hotel.|Inconsistent food. One day the scrambled egg is good, the next day, oversalted.|Very few breakfast staff.|What makes this so frustrating is that this is a beautiful building and has been very tastefully & expensively refurbished, with super-comfortable beds. ( With the exception of soundproof windows)|| However, it is terribly let down by invisible or non-existent senior management & poor attention to maintenance issues that must be visible to others. |The individual staff are pleasant and helpful, but are clearly understaffed in certain areas (reception) and not trained or supervised in the breakfast area.|I have stayed in several hotels in Spain and hospitality is usually excellent. I must conclude that Hospes are not really Hoteliers and lack that spirit of hospitality and attention to detail that makes a memorable stay. We would not return.

Historic Lobby and public rooms are quite beautiful and the service was excellent. We also enjoyed the 2nd floor pool area and the very good bar/restaurant Scarlett, As many guests have commented the guest rooms (and bathrooms) are small and somewhat dated. Our room was on the side street and we didn't have any noise problems. Very convenient location about 2 blocks from the main square with city hall. From there it's a fairly straight route down to the river,

Well, I just got back from my stay at the Infante Sagres, and I have to say — it was just lovely from start to finish.||From the moment I arrived, everyone was so kind and attentive. Rafael, the bellboy, was a real sweetheart and went out of his way to help me with my luggage and make sure I was settled in. And Margarita at the front desk made check-in a breeze — she was so pleasant and professional, just a joy to talk to after a long day of travel.||The hotel itself is beautiful, but it’s really the people who made it special. Every staff member I came across had a smile and was happy to help. It felt like they truly cared.||Breakfast was delicious both mornings — everything was fresh and well-prepared. A big thank you to the chef in charge; you could really taste the care in every bite.||If I ever find myself back in Porto, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommend.||— Linda Mae, Arkansas

Yelp
The hotel is located in central Porto and is a walkable distance to every major tourist location, including about a 30-45 min walk to the Port houses across the river. The hotel is beautifully appointed, having recently been renovated, with attention paid to period details. I was impressed by the delicious breakfast service. I particularly appreciated the attentive and extremely friendly service of the hotel staff, some even referring to me by name multiple days after checking. I felt the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We splurged for the junior suite as we had 3 of us traveling together and it was very comfortable with the addition of a cot in the room. Or note, the restaurant has an extremely tasty and affordable happy hour with 1€ oysters on the half shell. I look forward to visiting again soon!

Yelp
Very central location. We walked everywhere during our 3 night stay here. Very close to the train station where we took the train from Coimbra. And also walkable to metro station for airport. The front desk greeted us with choice of port wine. We had no idea there was Pink port and how delicious it was! We asked where it was from and ended up visiting Calem for some port wine tasting. (not to be missed) The staff was really friendly and courteous. Since I used a white cane, someone always rushed to push the elevator button for me and held the door for me! And they remember hubby's name and greeted him with Good evening, Mr. (lastname.) Talking about top notch customer service. Buffet breakfast at the Vogue Restaurant was really good and fancy. Love the high end vintage feel. The only minor downside is it's slightly noisy at night. We could hear people partying at the square downstairs way past 3am. If you are a light sleeper, maybe can request a quiet room or wear earplugs. Would stay here again!

Yelp
Elegant hotel. Great location in the city center. Easy to walk everywhere. Attentive staff. Special shout out to the concierge who helped us with trains and reservations. The breakfast is extensive and includes everything you could possibly want. There is a small lounge pool with a beautiful sun deck. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are a good size. The marble bathroom has a tub and shower and is very big.

Yelp
Great location in Porto. Fantastic brunch selection. Lovely outdoor patio. One evening we sat on the patio and played games and had appetizers. Very accommodating and friendly staff. Easy location to meet up with local tour groups, too. Small pool area, but nice. Definitely would stay there again,

Yelp
Booked this hotel through Made for Spain and Portugal, supposedly a 5 Star hotel, it's anything but. We've had constant issues with the thermostat in our room, which, every time you take the key card out of the lights so let reverts to 28 degrees Celsius (about 85 F) The parking situation is a complete joke, firstly no valet option and the nearest public parking lot is always full meaning one has to drive 5 blocks away and park in the local department store underground parking, which also runs out of spots. The rooms are just ok, but very noisy given the location near many late night clubs. One of the worst hotel experiences I've had in a long time!

Yelp
Very nice, enjoyed our stay. This was booked for us through our travel agent and included breakfast. Breakfast had plenty of options. Rooms were very nice. Excellent shower. Nice bathroom products (although I wish they had provided lotion). Staff was very pleasant. They even provided us with boxed breakfast on our last day since we had a very early train (we did put in a request for this).
